wirinet: That you don't see something wrong with talking about female and female sexual organs in a derogatory manner betrays your values and that of MAGA cult Members.
Let me correct that warped mindset. Not all men talk dirty about women and their sexual conquests. It's an irony that those who pretend to promote family values, religious values, anti abortion, premarital sex, etc., are the same people boasting about sexual conquests and vulgar language. If that was said by a teenager, I would understand the need to boast to impress his peers, but a full married man gunning for to be the leader of a country, that's indefensible.
Whether aware or unaware he is being recorded, it betrays his depraved mindset. I would never grab any woman by the pusšy nor boast of having ever done it. I
I am embarrassed at your view point. Personally I believe men that always boast of their sexual prowess are hollow, they've got no action. The real stallions don't make noise. They allow their conquests make the noise for them. Stormy Daniels testimony on Trump's sexual prowess is more revealing than any boasting by Trump. Leave that chap bro, he was probably born in 1998 and may thus be all of 25. What can he know. |

wirinet: I do not think those who acknowledge aliens visiting earth are lunatics, I just think its a belief that people have invested their emotions on, just like any other religious beliefs. They rely on second, third or even fifth account narratives and not on actual eye witness accounts. All the so called eye witness accounts, photos, videos are never concrete or convincing proof but grainy and unclear objects or lights. Even yours truly have seen what you will consider unidentified flying objects twice in my lifetime, but I leave it as unknown or unidentified instead of making a conjecture of what they were. In this modern age where everyone carries a camera and audio recorder always, if alien craft comes anywhere near where people are, they would have been recorded. Also in this age of satellites that can give clear pictures of cars on the road, I am sure they would have captured at least one clear picture of an alien craft. There are literally millions of pictures and videos every where. Yes, many are explainable but even the Departments of Defense and NASA acknowledge that about five per cent have no explanation. Also in many, the sort of movements observed cannot be explained outside of an intelligent guidance. They are also movements thus far impossible with known technology. Now, if these unidentified flying objects are actually non human crafts or abnormal weather phenomenon, then I believe they would be of terrestrial origin and not from another star system, because as I said, the physics, technology and energy to bridge the huge distance barrier is impossible according to our own science. But it would make more sense if it was an ancient advanced terrestrial civilization that is hiding some where inside the earth, maybe somewhere on the south Pole, inside the furthest depth of the ocean or in some underground space inside the earth. Then they come out to the surface occasionally to check us out in a non intrusive way. This is also theorized - inner Earth civilizations. I have read all Eric Von Danikens books, I gave read other theories of aliens from the bible and past. You should know I know what I am talking about. I dont doubt that you are a serious thinker and I hold you in very high esteeem as you know. |

IjeBos: Yeah, some "dictators" get things done quickly (China, Suadi Arabia). But there are hosts that are parasites on their countries (North Korea). I think it boils down to who the leader is and their vision. In both history and the modern world, dictators generally visit torture on their people. The benevolent dictator is the exception rather than the rule - and is as rare as the unicorn. Another point is that aside from the development of physical infrastructure, humans have a huge non-physical aspect to their existence and well being. The psychology of freedom, and the liberty of expression are cardinal to the inner development of a people. I absolutely agree when you say that absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is something Wirinet needs to acknowledge. The necessity of checks and balances in any system cannot be over emphasized. Just imagine what happens when, as has happened many times, the dictator you are saddled with is a lunatic. This is not rare or an exception - because even normal people tend to gradually lose it when given absolute powers. Absolute rulers have a terrible record in the world. Genghis Khan, Tiberius, Commodus, Caligula, Nero, Napoleon, Henry VIII, Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin, Robespierre, Hitler, Mobutu, Idi Amin, Abacha, Sadam Hussein, too many to mention. |

wirinet: The watched the video in the link. I am not convinced it's an alien craft from another star. To me it could be anything, that's why it is referred to as "Unidentified Flying Object" Even the report said many people tried to hypothesise different explanations. You know people like me don't subscribe to the God of the Gaps" as explanation for unknown phenomenon. Aliens has become the "God of the Gaps" for Unknown or unidentified flying objects.
If aliens could actually break the light barrier and have the capacity to travel the great distances between stars, then their physics and technology would be way beyond ours. That means the have a huge source of energy we are yet to discover. Comparison with us will be like the difference between us and cockroaches. The idea that extra terrestrial intelligences exist is no longer fringe or weird. It is mainstream, and it is gradually being confirmed by authorities in the states. There is also a preponderance of evidence in this regard. While one may elect to wait until some definitive and public international event occurs, one can no longer dismiss it with a wave of the hand or pretend that those who acknowledge it are simply lunatics. |

wirinet: Eko Atlantic City and Lekki Toll Bridge, are those the best civilian rule offered Lagos, after 24 years of continuous civilian rule? First and foremost those projects are privately funded or tolled. Then those projects confirmed what I first said, that those projects were built with small privileged group in mind - the elite, and not the generality of the poor lagos masses. Now let's compare to military rule - Lagos Ikorodu express way and Third Mainland Bridge, and various housing estates including 1004, FESTAC, Satellite Town, Games Village. These projects benefited the generality of Lagosians including the poor. Even the elitist Victoria Garden City and Banana Island was conceived under the military. For your information, I lived and schooled in Ikoyi and V/I. It is natural that governments of the earlier part of a nation's existence would put in the most key and fundamental infrastructural framework. That is a function of a given period, not a function of the nature of the government. Unless you wish to assert that if there was never military intervention we would never have built those basic infrastructural frameworks. I agree that absolute power depends on the benevolence of the dictator in power , but I disagree that absolute power by one man can never be a good thing. Infact throughout history, the highest and fastest progress was achieved under dictatorship. From Caesar's Rome to Ancient Egypt to Victorian England to modern China. This is disputable, there have been democratic realms such as ancient Greece and the Unted States which have catapulted humanity's progress in ways no other societies have. I hear you on the Electoral College in America, but that anomaly is not sufficient to claim that it is a dictatorship. Democracy in Africa seems never to be able to correct itself but keeps on repeating the same mistakes, which are election rigging, sit tightism if civilian rulers, corruption and tyranny of the ruling elite. It will take time. Rome was not built in a day. Europe has been through centuries of horror to arrive at where it is today. Do not expect any less here. There is no miracle anywhere. We have to go through the time and learn the lessons and build the institutions. That is normal and natural. Democracy is not even an absolute term but relative. The US is not a true democracy in the true sense of the word. The electoral college system does not necessarily depend on the votes of the electorate, but on electors sent by the states and approved by Congress. This anomaly was what Trump tried to exploit by trying to send an alternative set of electors not reflected by the actual votes. If the vice president and Congress had accepted the alternative electors, the votes would not have mattered and trump would have been sworn in as president.
Also the British system cannot be said to a full democracy. The monarch is the Head of state. The prime minister and his cabinet serve and pledge allegiance to the king. While I agree with these, it still would be stretching things to call either a dictatorship of one man. They simply are not. At the end of the day the real question you will have to grapple with is if you would prefer that the Military come back in Nigeria and we just forget about democracy permanently. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: 2026 Midterm Elections Live! by DeepSight(m): 8:08pm On Aug 04, 2023 |
wirinet: Exactly! China would never have made such progress so fast under democracy. The problem is decision making under democracy is very slow (more bureaucracy), projects more expensive and time consuming(more interests to satisfy) and more corruption involved.
So you see why Africa is still confused whether we want democracy or dictatorship. Democracy offers more personal and group liberties (but only for the dominant groups (dominant tribes, dominant religion, elites), while dictatorship offers better economic stability and infrastructure for the poor. As bad as Russia is in terms of freedom and liberty, the poor enjoys more economic stability than even the US. While I hear you on bureaucracy I am not sure about results. I have lived my whole life in Lagos where I was born and the first time I started seeing street lights on a steady basis was after 1999. And I am in my forties. It is also not true that democracy has not brought infrastructure. It has brought a lot. Projects like Eko Atlantic and the Lekki Ikoyi Bridge were not the work of military hands. In the end, absolute power by one man can never be a good thing. Never ever. There can be a few instances were a country is lucky with a benevolent absolute ruler. But this is the exception rather than the rule. Also democracy has the inbuilt nature of correcting its mistakes over time. For example when OBJ was president he would routinely suspend a governor in a state where he declared a state of emergency. That can no longer happen. He would routinely impeach governors with a tiny minority of the state assembly. That can no longer happen. Democracy has many flaws but it self corrects over time and is the best option in the long run. |
