Under the current EFCC act Olanipekun Olukoyede is not qualified to be appointed EFCC chair.
Is the EFCC not a law enforcement agency?

Section 2(3) of the EFCC Act, 2005, stipulates that a chairman of the commission “must be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent; possess not less than 15 years experience.”

From the above, it's obvious Olanipekun Olukoyede is not qualified at all to head the anti graft agency

But, what do I know
The EFCC is a security and law enforcement agency. And I don't know how it's secretary can be said to be below the rank of an ACP.

You need to have a balanced view on what is a deeper and more complicated conflict than you seem to understand. For example I am not sure you are aware that Israeli Forces have killed over 200 Palestinians randomly this year alone.

Israel is an apartheid state. You need to be more circumspect in arriving at your conclusions.

Tinubu is being too gentlemanly for my liking.

He is acting like he's the president of Sweden or Canada.

Gentleman presidency.

This is NIGERIA, not Sweden or UK.

You have to be ruthless here, because people here are not gentlemen.

They are very rugged, rough people, with no conscience.

PRESIDENT TINUBU needs a reality check.

I don't think he fully understands that he is the PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, AND COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC.

Every Tom, Dick, and Harry riffraff (from the East mostly) goes online to abuse him and call him all sorts of unprintable names on a daily basis.

How long before he says ENOUGH?

How much abuse can one man take?

Dragging his name all over the whole internet and abusing him daily!

Enough already....

He should start by ordering the SS to go after people making incendiary, unproven allegations against him online, and drag them to court to testify and prove their allegations, or sue them for libel and defamation.

A couple of lengthy jail sentences for the culprits will discourage the rest of the online mob of imbeciles insulting him daily because of free internet access.

Mr President needs to understand that this country is filled with ASSHOLES who will take advantage of his gentlemanism.

He needs to start acting like a damn PRESIDENT.

He must become at least as strong as Obasanjo was in his time.

Personally I think he should be far stronger and more mean, because this new generation think they are wiser than everybody, and so require some HEAVY discipline that will shut them up and teach them manners.
You are a joker, and probably a teenager.

Anormalguy:
Hello Deepsight.

People have mentioned what I understand to be that there is a big picture in this which accomplishes something good such as the animals remaining active and the population of the animal being kept fresh. Perhaps the apparent brutality to achieve this is mostly in our eyes. Aside from that they feel pain and similar emotions, we do not know how the animals really find this. Are they disgusted by it like we humans, repelled by it even or are they pleased in having to act on their instincts of fear in running from predator or pleased with the pain they go through in being killed by a predator when it comes to that? Likewise for the predator too. Inconceivable for a human to take pleasure in that, I know. But a human is not an animal, and is the animal not really very inconceivable to man?
We are also animals and can apply the same big picture principle to one another. Perhaps killing one another in wars also helps to keep the population alert, active and fresh.

What I am saying is that perhaps the sense of brutality is personal to the species and not the same for all. What we humans call brutal in the animal kingdom may be normal for them. And what we humans call civilized, the angels in Heaven may look at as brutal.
Maybe you should understand that I am not necessarily condemning that natural order. I am just saying that we do not need to assume that it is kind or loving or merciful. We need to see it for what it is and accept it as it is.

As for why we see the animal brutal behavior in humans as well. For killing animals for food, I agree with the explanation Justcool gave. In other areas like war for competition of resources, my answer is that every or at least most human beings know that these things are wrong, are innately repelled by them and are capable of doing what is right, if the person still decides to do evil then that is their choice and not what they are forced to do by nature.
Nature itself is set up for competition and strife. And in that very fact rests the foundation of evolution which causes improved forms of creatures to thrive: the survival of the fittest.

I believe that this world can be much better if we human beings pulled ourselves together and stated striving to do what is right. The idea that we are forced by nature to do evil is an excuse in my opinion because the reality is that the nature is for us to decide. Many people have been tempted to do evil before and successfully resisted, why did nature not force them to do evil there or does nature just force us to do whatever, how senseless and aimless is that and inconsistent with the sense and purpose we see everywhere in nature?

Thanks.
I hope you do not have to be at the scene of a famine or drought or Plague or Earthquake or Volcanic Eruption or Flood or other natural disaster to understand that nature often pushes people to take extreme measures to survive and such can involve killing other people or forcefully taking their resources.

You have no idea how much you debase yourself by saying and doing such. Racism and tribalism - especially the kind that seeks to dehumanize your fellow man, is one of the lowest, most pathetic, most sickening, most depraved things in the world. I strongly advise you to rid yourself of it: you will be a higher, lighter and more advanced human being for that.

Intellectuals and the good people of nairaland. I just experienced one of the biggest shocks of my life.

As a student of the federal university, I saw a publication for the post of a front desk at a big cyber cafe close to the north wing of our school gate. I applied and followed the recruitment exercise which took 3 weeks of test and interview.

Out of 15 of us that applied for the job of 25k per month, I was picked. I loved it because it only start from 4pm till 9pm. Normally our lectures is from 7am till 1pm. I was happy because it will help me save for my school fees and I hoped to liaison with the students there to learn graphic designing. A skill I love but finance is a burden to enrol and to get a PC.

I was told to resume on Monday. I went there in the evening and the owner came and say my services are no longer needed. I was shocked. I asked him what I did? He didn't answer me. It was the other staff, the manager that told me he will communicate it to me. From Monday till now, I didn't hear from them.

Please, what should I do? I am confused. For those who had similar experience what was your cause. I am so so sad with this. My hope is dashed.
Don't think about it. Move on and keep trying. Don't stop.

wirinet:
Please let me add that recorded human history is approximately 5,000 years. Within that time, theism governed people lives and behaviour for over 4,700 years. It was just about 300 years when people began to question and indeed challenge religion and reason started taking over that human development started to accelerate. As more and more people began to question the Gods, such societies began to accelerate in human and social development.
The correlation you draw between questioning the existence of God and human development is questionable. It makes more sense to think that the period from the Renaissance and the enlightenment brought with it much that propelled human development and that also included the rational questioning of religion. This is different from claiming that questioning religion caused the development, as you seem to do. It would be even more apt to say that something such as liberty and democracy which came post enlightenment, played a bigger role.

I still reiterate that highly religious societies remain unstable and underdeveloped in comparison to the highly atheistic ones.
This statement has too small a sample in terms of time to be taken seriously for the simple reason that we have only had atheistic societies for less than 100 or so years in all of the recorded human history of some six thousand years.

I read you link on Japan, it still collaborates my stance. The apparent disagreement is in the definition of atheism. Strict atheism means lack of belief in Gods, spirits, spiritualism, the unseen, etc., while liberal atheism accommodates spirits, spiritualism, the unseen and even gods, the difference being lack of a creator God or a personal God who cares about how you go about your life. Now, there are very few strict atheists, most fall within a spectrum between the two extremes. Buddhism can be said to fall into the category of liberal atheism.

When I refer to Japan as a predominantly atheist country, I am using the Nigerian criteria where anyone who does not believe in a personal God is termed an atheist. Over 99% of Nigerians believe in a person God, whereas this figure is less than 15% in Japan.

When I am talking about materialism, I mean the crave for material possessions. Theistic religions lure new members by promising all sorts of material rewards - both in this life and in the afterlife. Their priests and even their gods demand material gifts from adherents to be considered worthy of blessings and favours. This is not found in atheism.

Yes, the atheism believes all that matters is here and now and tries to make the best use of his limited time. The theist believes that they have eternity to enjoy material sensations - either spiritually or physically, and so have numerous chances to sin and repent until the last breath.
Fair enough. Although I really think there is a cultural misunderstanding on the nature of what can be called oriental atheism. Japan's religion is Shinto and most Japanese would believe in/ practice it at some level. The fact that this may not entail subscription to the regular monotheistic God of the West does not qualify it as atheism.

Matter is Matter.

Everything is not matter, we have space.
Why do you need to believe when you can know, and if you don't know yet you keep finding and doubting. When you believe something you stop thinking and accept it as fact. Beliefs are unnecessary.

Your concept of spirituality is an abstraction you got from Religion. Sit down and logically define "spirituality" without using religion connotations lol

Bro, you called it "being", look up the origin of that word.
Spirit means breathe that is to be alive, yes I am spirited, dead people are not.
And I have a body, I am not a body.

I assure you that concept you have in your mind of "spirituality" that uses "non-physical" matter is delusional.

A sculpture is working with Material, a carpenter is working with Material, a painter is working with Material, if that's the kind of the material, then I am a materialist, I love nature.
Or Do you mean 'material" as in money which is an abstraction like inches.
By material, I mean physical matter and by extension I refer to materialists as those who believe only physical matter exists.

The concept of "spiritual" is part of the delusion that theism has causes.
It is not a delusion to believe, indeed to know that there is more to a person than the mere physical body.

When we do away with theism and his wishy-washy words like "spiritual", we welcome in words like "spirited".
Oddly enough, I like this. But the spiritual is nonetheless real. You are a spiritual being dwelling in a physical cloak.

Very debatable. In fact many can validly say atheism emphasizes materialism by denying the spiritual. Thus leaving the material as the be all and end all.

Travel › Re: Why Do Most Wealthy Nigerians Prefer To Live In Nigeria Than To Relocate Abroad? by DeepSight(m): 2:52pm On Oct 03, 2023
Kenn55:
The answer is simple. They can't get the level of respect and worship they get in Nigeria when they reside abroad. Secondly, their source of wealth will be questioned.

Abroad is a leveler of men, nobody send anybody. No special interest or recognition, no police or army following you around carrying your bag and umbrella for you cos you are a big man, everybody has 24/7 light, everybody has water rushing in their homes, everybody enjoys good roads, everybody can afford to travel to other countries because of their passport if they can afford a flight ticket not because they have billions in the bank to show the embassy etc.

So at the end, the gap between the rich and poor is narrow so nobody is going to become a slave to another person because they are rich in abroad.

So if you are a Nigerian big man, you don't want to live in a place where you become an ordinary person, you will rather want to live in a place where your wealth can make you a "god" in the eyes of the people and you can use them and the system to your advantage. In Nigeria, if you are rich, the police, judiciary, pastors etc will do your bidding, in abroad, nobody cares.

But then, don't forget that despite that, most still have properties abroad and their children also have one leg abroad through citizenship or residency incase of incasity grin Don't let them fool you, they are WISE
My only problem with your write up is your improper use of English. You keep saying "in abroad" whereas the proper thing is "in the abroad."
