Thanks to God Almighty and congratulations to him and his family. He'll need time to reorder himself mentally so he can live a normal life. Hopefully his family and friends will give him the much needed support without thinking of how to make money out of him.

God bless him.

LASG should please provide their analysis by LGAs. Maybe people in such localities will be more cautious. It's getting scary and people want schools and worship centres reopened. I have no objection but I still believe that we have to be cautious.

We really take this powdered milk for granted, without it most of Nigeria's children will be stunted and malnourished(even more than usual). I don't know where we will find the light to be storing fresh liquid milk like abroad.
Years ago, we enjoyed fresh milk from the dairy farm in Ibadan. They used to sell mostly to workers in offices then. Sadly, governors down the line ruined the farm. I'm not sure it still exists.

The dairy farms were a part of the agricultural revolution of the old Western Region. There are also well planned farm settlements scattered all over SW which need to be restored for modern mechanised farming.

Conspiracy theorists and doubting thomases should be allowed to wallow in ignorance.

How anyone could assume that an uncompleted building is the only Isolation Centre in Kano beats my imagination.

The centres currently in use have been shown on TV several times. People should learn to take a break from the internet once a day to actually listen to the news.

You seem to get it wrong.

The real issue is not the wealthy Northerner but the large pool of uneducated ones. If it was not just that they were uneducated, but are uneducated and proud of it. With 80% of Sokoto indigenous uneducated for instance, these stats are frightening.

Presently in my place in Lagos, we rented out our backyard to an Igbo guy to use as a car lot. The gentleman is detribalized. His assistant is a Yoruba man and the 3rd man is a Fulani from Ghana. Recently, we decided to rent out the entire house to him and he now employed a Fulani and a Hausa to protect his cars.

The next thing was they started inviting other Hausas to come to sleep within the compound. They were everywhere, sleeping in the open. It was shocking. I'm at loose ends of what to do: drive them out or take pity on them. Many have no character.

It is this high level of backwardness that shock and worry many Southerners. It is just isn't acceptable. It is worsened by the fact that Northern leaders have been complicit in this backwardness.

Your anger seems to stem from the derogatory way many here talk and I don't blame you. I have been at the end of it at times and I just shrug.

It won't be a bad idea if the Northerners were the best educated in the Sahel or even the world. Not just a few, but a majority.
That's a major point. So much poverty in the midst of plenty. When viewed in the light of roaming almajiris, homeless beggars et al, it's most disheartening. My people say...Olowo kan laarin otosi mefa, otosi ni gbogbo won ( hope I got it right). It literally means that a rich man in the midst of six poor men is still a poor men.

A community is healthier, safer and happier when the difference between the rich and poor is not too wide. A peep into the IDP camps is another sad story.
The poor will always be with us no doubt. However, they don't have to be wretched and hopeless while the few rich flaunt so much wealth.

For me, the need for societal consciousness applies to all tribes. Same way that all that has gone to NDDC has not had a meaningful impact on the society beyond enriching a few. The trend is the same everywhere but the impact is more evident in the North.

I understand u and agree with u totally but what i'm saying is dat maybe some of d lagos cases might just be a case of wrong diagnosis. For instance, i had fever and cough for like 2wks, even my colleagues stopped coming close to me till i got better cos they thought i had covid19, if i had gone for d test i'm 75% sure dat they would ve said i was positive for covid19
You may have had a mild case of coronavirus. The early symptoms are similar to those for malaria and flu except the loss of sense of smell which doesn't apply to everyone. I remember that the Commissioner in Lagos said many will have it and not even know. That's because they have strong immune systems which fights the virus over a period of time...just like regular flu. Those are the ones we see dancing in the Isolation centres. Their symptoms are mild and manageable with basic drugs.

The moderate and bad cases are the ones who may get to the stage of having breathing difficulties or organ failure where there's an underlying illness.

May God perfect your healing. It shall be permanent. Amen

The problem is that such people pose a great danger to those around them until the virus runs it's course within them and they're Coronavirus free...test negative. They can infect many people without falling ill.
Family › Re: Are Best Friends Worth It? Mine Abandoned Me In The Streets Of A Foreign Country by delpee(f): 8:09am On May 19, 2020
slyfox35:
Best friends or closest friends as some people term it is quite normal in the life of 80% of world population, I had one too.

We grew up as teens together, matured as adults together, he came to our house always and ate all his meals with us. My mom was really nice to him when she was alive. He wore my clothes and never returned them. I did not ask because my parents always provided for me although they were average citizens.

Then the worst thing in my life happened. I lost both my parents within the space of four years.
Things turned downhill for me (orphans do suffer a lot.. Too much suffering for you to believe there is even God in heaven who takes care of the fatherless and motherless).

My friend travelled to an African country. He kept telling me to come over there to work that things are better there. I kept declining but after a year of constant pressure, I decided to man up, packed my bags and travelled to meet him.

Guess what? I did not stay up to 5 days with him!!!

His attitude changed by the second day, he yells at me at every given opportunity, from his best friend, I turned to his boy, the heat he was given me was so bad that when he leaves the house and he comes back, I get scared just by hearing his footsteps. I virtually turned to a nonentity to him. I had no money on me because the little I had left, he collected it when I arrived. I knew no one, I felt so miserable and alone and I started regretting why I left Nigeria.

On the fifth day ,I woke up early in the morning and shook him up. I don’t know what got into me (but I am glad it did), I told him I can’t stay with him anymore and I want to leave. He did not even feel bad about this, he did not think of the fact that I know nothing and nowhere in this country. He let me go.

I packed my bag amid tears and went into the street. Mind you, I had no one to call back in Nigeria... It was tough on me but as a naija guy and as God will have it, I did not spend even a night on the streets. I was shocked that a total stranger took me in, clothed and fed me. He taught me everything he knows. I worked for 6 months and was able to make 2 million Naira. This was like a dream to me (If you get money ehn, to praise God Dey sweet o)

I came back to Nigeria, rented an apartment, furnished it and continued working from here.

This so called best friend of mine saw my posts and pictures on Facebook and video called me to check on me (I guess his eyes did not believe what he was seeing) he asked me if I am in a hotel, I said no, I am in my apartment. He was shocked (me I nor keep any grudge against you) he told me he was coming to Nigeria and that I should please forgive him and forget everything that happened. I told him I can forgive but can’t forget.

What surprised me most are this exact words he said “my guy, if I come, na your house I go relax first abeg”

Now my fellow Nairalanders, I am asking, how should I go about this?

I have forgiven him but should I allow him into my home?
Sorry, this guy is not your friend. It was a one sided relationship but you didn't know. Forgiveness is required for your own peace of mind and you've done that. Please leave him the past and move on with your life.
Family › Re: What Secret Is My Husband Hiding? by delpee(f): 3:55pm On May 16, 2020
Tasha7:
Hello, I am a black woman born and raised in North America and married to an Igbo man. We have been in a long distance relationship for the majority of our relationship. We got married almost 2 years ago while still long distance and he recently immigrated to Canada in Jan 2020 under the spousal sponsorship. He has a wonderful bond with my mother and sisters. (my father has passed). I have met his family and we get along very well.

Everything was going well until I was looking up something in the search history of the laptop we both share and stumbled across emails he had recently accessed. Please note, I could not read the email itself, I could only see the subject lines in the search history. I will attach pictures if possible. It wasn't a normal email account like yahoo or Gmail. It was from a website called: Roundcube webmail. I had never heard of it before. Anyway, there were a bunch of emails forwarded from a hotel in Istanbul where people were being asked to pay their outstanding hotel bill (unfortunately I didn't take a screenshot of the hotel stuff). In addition to that, there were emails to 2 different women (named Wendy and Elizabeth) with the subjects: re: Thank you for written, re: back from customs baby, re: I am so happy our paths have crossed re: I am writing you with much sadness in my heart etc. I will try to attach the screenshots I took.

Lastly, within the same search history, my husband seemed to have been looking up songs like: 'what songs make a woman feel confident about herself' and 'what if I never get over you', and 'songs that make a woman feel beautiful'.

I confronted my husband that same night. It was 2am. He was already sleeping. I woke him up bc I wanted to catch him off guard. His explanation was that his friend in Cyprus had a bad internet connection and asked him (my husband) to look up something in his friends email account. He insisted that he had no idea what his friend was up to, as it was none of his business. In the process of me confronting him, he grabbed the laptop from me and deleted the search history. I told him that was making him look real guilty and I started packing my things to leave. He pleaded and insisted it had nothing to do with him, it was his friends email account blah blah blah. I wanted to believe him but some things just didn't add up...like why was he looking up those songs if he was just checking his friends email for him? His only saving grace was that the subject lines were written with poor grammar and my husband has excellent English speaking and writing skills.

Fast forward a few weeks later, my husband left the bathroom to put out the garbage and accidentally left his phone in the bathroom playing music. This is significant because he has never parted from his phone from the day he arrived. He sleeps with his phone beside him. He showers and uses the bathroom with his phone beside him. When he cooks, he keeps his phone beside him. The day in question, I went into the bathroom and locked the door shortly after he left the bathroom. Side note: I only lock the door bc sometimes he jokingly sneaks up on me to scare me while I am in the shower, so to avoid being snuck up on, I sometimes lock the door. I digress. I commenced using the bathroom when I noticed that hubby left his phone on the side of the bathtub with Nigerian gospel music blasting. I was shocked! It was the first time he was separated from his phone! I didn't touch his phone and started using the bathroom. Within 15 seconds, my husband started knocking on the door saying he really needed to use the bathroom and wanted me to open the door. He was saying he really needed to pee. I asked him to hold a minute, because I was on the toilet. He said he didn't believe me and then things escalated from there. He started pounding really hard on the bathroom door, demanding that I open the door because he really needed to pee. He was eventually pounding so hard and yelling to the point where he started to lose his voice! I was freaked out! I told him to hold on and I would be done in a minute! But he wouldn't listen and eventually broke open the bathroom door by force...there is literally a large crack down the bathroom door now. I was shocked. Beyond words. Once he broke down the door, he quickly did a scan of the bathroom and saw his cellphone was right where he left it. I didn't touch it. Then he was more calm. He then reiterated that he really needed to pee and went into the shower, pulled the curtain and turned on the water.

I started freaking out. I started yelling telling him that he was a liar and if there was any doubt in my mind he was hiding something, I need not doubt it anymore! He broke down the bathroom door NOT because he really nedded to pee, but because he was so terrified I was going to snoop through his phone! Of course he denied it. He was saying that if that was the case, the first thing he would have done is grab his phone. I responded saying that he's not stupid, if he grabbed his phone first, it would have made him look guilty. After that blow up, we stopped talking to each other for days...

And here I am today. If anyone could provide me insight into what is going on, I would be so appreciative. What is this hotel stuff and what are these msgs to multiple women? I am thinking he may be involved in a 419 scam or his friend is a yahoo boy....but why is he using such poor grammar when he speaks and writes excellent English?

I am so stressed over all of this that it is literally consuming my every thought. My husband only denies everything and gets defensive then ignores me if I keep pushing for answers. Outside of this incident he is incredibly loving and affectionate and treats my mother so well. He cares so much about what she thinks of him.

I have turned to this forum with the hopes that someone would have more insight into what is going on. Thank you so much to anyone who has taken the time to read this very long post and respond. I truly appreciate it. Again, I attached photos, but scratched out names just in case.

Thank you,

Tasha

Doubting Thomases need to open their minds to learning. Many people have given their testimonies. They have shown us videos of the centres with patients and health workers in view. There's also enough information about the virus online.

They have informed us several times that many people will have it without even knowing. The challenge is that they're mostly asymptomatic but will easily infect others especially in crowded areas. The effect is worse on the elderly and others with underlying illnesses. Irrespective of the many conspiracy theories and the lack of trust in the government, I think it's wise to learn more as a proactive strategy in self/national preservation instead of assuming that it is all a lie. That's actually a lazy way of thinking.

Please step forward for a test (if you have symptoms) in any of the 20 LG testing centres if you're in Lagos. Same way for those in other states. For others, keep to the rules to avoid infection. Moreso in case you're asymptomatic... so as not to infect others. We need to get rid of COVID and move on with our lives.
May God protect us all.

Glorious! Thanks. In my marriage I was the one deprived of affection and everything that comes with being married. I never for once looked else where and never discussed with anyone except now on this forum. I have always known that my condition was not permanent. I and believed that I was going rewrite my own story. All I wanted was a go at an opportunity and for her to stand by me and which never came. But when it finally came, the deed has been done. Forgiveness is grace, I have done that already. I swear I have nothing against her. To be honest, she doesn't even know that I have a job. She only knows I am not dead. She has called to let me know that I should work hard to help raise my kid. I am sure she is surprised, I send money to her account on a monthly basis for our kid's upkeep. There is no need for me to brag to her about my current status. If she finally knows, it will great for her. I believe the greatest gift in life is not just knowledge or wisdom but grace to believe, believe, and believe again. At the moment, I have not taken a decision on what next line of action is but what I do know is that she is not in any of the my plans. At the moment I am concentrating on re-certifications that I have not done in years. I will update you guy as LIFE gives me more "feedbacks".
Congrats on the new job. A real blessing after your years of hustling patiently. May God strengthen and empower you more to do that which is necessary for your child and to live a better life. It's wise to concentrate on your certifications for now. May you never go back to the tough days.

You're wise and mature to have forgiven your wife. She probably has a different angle to the story but in all, it's better to move on once you're very sure that there'll be no going back. I pray that you find love again and live a peaceful, happy life thereafter.

I have considered my pocket and sincerely with the present situation if I don't cut down my expenses it will be hard on us.

For almost two months now no salary. I have explained to her but she is not pleased with me.

How should I go about this matter please?
Tell her to read and understand Proverbs 31:10-31 if she's a Christian...in a nice and friendly manner. What affects you affects the family. You have to jointly keep the home running for peace and progress.

Do all you can to manage your home well within your resources. Going beyond your limit is an endless journey which only leads to frustration and destruction. Of course, you can spend more if you have but straining yourself just to do "see me I dey" isnt wise. Besides, if she feels that bad about it she should contribute. She could have bought biscuits to add to the soft drinks. smiley

May God empower and bless you with all you need to maintain your family. May you live long in good health to reap the fruits of your labor. Amen

PS. I assumed that she's aware that you haven't been paid your salary for 2 months in which case she should be considerate.

There is this lady I have been dating now for almost eleven years (11) she was my first love, we started dating while I was still in my final stage of secondary school, things were moving smoothly,

She keeps crying everyday, even I myself, and in the state of confused now,.

SHOULD WE QUIT THE RELATIONSHIP OR WHAT SHOULD WE DO NOW..?
It depends on both of you and how far you can tolerate each other's religion if neither party is willing to change. Also can you stand extreme pressure and intimidation from the lady's family?
I know some Christian men who are happily married to Muslim ladies including a cousin of mine. His inlaws disagreed and refused to approve the wedding because the man refused to convert to Islam. They went to the registry instead since they were both of age. Anyway, today he's their beloved inlaw. His wife is still a practicing Muslim.

On the other hand, I know a man whose life was messed up because he insisted on marrying a Muslim lady against her dad's wish. She ended up marrying a Muslim but kept in touch with her former boyfriend because she didn't have a happy marriage unfortunately.

You have to agree on how to bring up your kids faith wise without the intervention of both families. It's a complex situation but doable as I have seen in a few cases. If you can't agree on most things that will matter in due course, you're better of going your separate ways so as not to complicate your lives.
Best wishes.

Reading the comments ....hmmm! I can only conclude that it's so very sad that young people who should reason well for a better future are so petty, ignorant and insecure. Great pity.

Sometimes it's hard to believe that this is the same country I grew up in. Too much shallow thinking, meaningless arguments, pull him down syndrome and inferiority complex everywhere. The Nigerian youth of the past (even shortly after the war) were more focused and less bitter on tribal grounds. The focus was on how to have good governance to move the nation forward. It was in that era that many student unionists ended up in jail for inspiring and leading students protesting against bad government policies. Now it's tribal war everyday. So much unnecessary hatred brewing in minds. I really wonder what went wrong.

@Topic
There's no point arguing with the visionless on what they can not see. It's always a futile exercise. Those who know Ibadan city need no one to convince them about the beauty of the new city and the historical importance of the old areas. It's of great significance that what is read in history can still be seen physically in some areas. Family houses and even burial sites of some of the war commanders of old are still intact. I remember being taken to an old market close to Molete as a young child on excursion. We learnt how the artisans of old worked...the blacksmith, cloth dyers etc in those same "brown roofed" houses. Same way I loved my visit to the Old City of Kano. Cherished memories!

Demolishing totally the old area wipes out a whole chunk of history and may destabilise the traditional political settings. The agbo iles have a strong meaning in Yoruba tradition and culture. Maybe dilapidated ones can be rebuilt in a way to preserve history.

Yorubas cherish their history and are not in competition with any group. It's a matter of live and let live. God help us all.
