I should not be faulted if I call Junaid Muhammad a bloody numbskull. How could he consciously regard a person who can read and write as illiterate? It is safe to question the validity of the diploma granted to Junaid Muhammad. |
The alleged foreign policy move by GEJ is a welcome idea. USA foreign policy reeks of arrogance, dictatorship and immorality. Who wants to do business with a country where it is acceptable practice for a man to marry a fellow man? |
Mazi Dede1, kedu. ![]() I just started reading "The Nigerian Revolution and the Biafran War" by Alexander Madiebo today. And I'm not going to lie, I did shed a tear subconsciously on the train today, on my way from work. I know there might be some sentiments involved in his narration, however, I enjoyed what I've read so far. Personally, I think Nzeogwu was let down by the coup plotters in Lagos. Also, I think we can draw comparisons between this current administration and the first republic. History is about to repeat itself - however, it seems Igbo's haven't learnt their lessons about not underestimating the Northerners. GEJ reminds me of Aguiyi Ironsi. The swift way in which the Northern army captured Lagos, despite Igbo officers being in-charge of all the Lagos garrisons and having almost the same number of combatants is shocking.
Omo Shymaxx. When you read Alexander Madiebo’s crap, you must try to understand the objectives of coup plotters. While the objective of January 15, 1966 coup plotters was to change a government riddled with nepotism and corruption, the main objective of July 29, 1966 coup plotters was tribal and to eliminate easterners. It is very naïve and childish on your part to insinuate that Ndigbo have not learnt their lesson. I expect you to expatiate on “Ndigbo have not learnt their lesson”. |
Stupidity!!!! |
airmark: Fact: Igbos cant survive alone.Fact: You and your forbearers are so melancholically afraid to sit back and watch Ndigbo commit suicide of self-determination in a nation state called Republic of Igbo land. |
Good question. And clarifications have to be made so the proper context of the answer will be comprehended. During the First Republic, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the inimitable Owelle and Great Zik of Africa was Nigeria's first (and ceremonial) president from 1963-1966 but he was, I must emphasize, a ceremonial head of state. That is one. Two, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was the first and only Prime Minister of Nigeria from 1960-1966, and he was the head of government (not state) and had real powers. As a matter of fact, in 1964, when there was a tussle between the Balewa the PM and Azikiwe the Presido, only Balewa had the powers and authority to issue commands to the military. Now, it gets dicey because some will ask that, shebi Azikiwe was the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces so why will Balewa be the one in control of the army. Well, another fact comes up again: after we gained independence in 1960 from the Britikos, Azikiwe was acting as the Governor-General (in other words, representative of the Queen) until 1963 when we became a republic. But from that 1960-1963, Balewa had already formed a government (actually as early as 1957)and was already the Chief Minister (later Prime Minister upon independence in 1960) and he was re-elected again in 1964, and it was not until 1963 when the Republican constitution was amended that Azikiwe was 'deemed to have been elected as the President and C-in-C', emphasis on the word 'deemed'. So between 1960 to 1966, we had two leaders as we were operating a parliamentary democracy in which one person was heading the government (Balewa) while the other was the ceremonial head of state. In government buildings, the portraits of both of them were placed on the walls (Ojukwu ordered them removed at a time). That was the only time we had that kind of system of government. So if I am to write on all the wives of Nigerian leaders from 1960 to date, there is no way I will not include Flora Azikiwe and the four spouses of Balewa: Jumai, Umma, Zainab and Laraba. The only thing I must do then is to make the clear distinction between the two parties regarding the functions of their husbands, shikena. Today, we use a presidential system of government so it is neater and cleaner unlike those days of Balewa and Azikiwe. A president under a parliamentary system is not the same as a president under a presidential system, I think that is where the misunderstanding is emanating from. And if I am even to base the articles on the figure with real power (like in Israel where Shimon Peres is the President (and ceremonial figurehead) but Benjamin Netanyahu is the PM with real powers, I will be mentioning only Balewa's wives as First Ladies, however, that is not the goal, the aim is to discuss all the wives of Nigerian leaders, be it PM, President or khaki boy, they are all Nigerian leaders). I hope this helps.
As I have rightfully said in my previous post, I can not aid your education. You raised the level of your ignorance of the subject by dwelling on political sarcasm of yesteryears as you tried to make political hays out of ceremonial presidency. It is safe to say that ethnic bigotry is the bane of socio-political growth in Nigeria. I can only tell you to keep it up. There was a time nairaland was a place for intellectual exercise where ill-informed trolls such as you get enlightened but the forum has since been turned into paradise for tribal bigots such as you. It seems you can not stop to show your ignorance on the subject you know little about. There was no time Tafawa Balewa was in command of the army forces of Nigeria. What Belawa had, as the head of government, was deployment of armed forces during emergency. All the ministers in his government including service chiefs report to him. However, there was provision in the constitution where the presidency could use to override the clause of “deployment”. In fact, I shall not respond to you posts until you found out the difference between the head of state, commander in chief and head of government. In parliamentary democracy, head of government is not the head of state. There might be political impasse that could derail the government of a particular prime minister yet the state will still exist while the said government is dissolved. The head of state will call for new parlimentry election as permanent secretaries run the their respective ministries until new election is conducted. In most case, the serving prime minister has been defeated in the election and will not return as the head of the new governemnt that will emerge. |
It is your stock in trade to talk without using the stuff placed inside your skull. Your 'supercomputer IQ' will not let you reason, and is why you say 'most Nigerians' and go about insulting everyone on NL. Maybe your problem is my not mentioning Zik. If you don't understand the explanation above, I will tell you: early to bed, early to rise. Go to sleep.
Does it matter to insult a dunce that stated ignorance of the fact both Australia and Malaysia had constitutional monarchy? It will be tragedy to seek explanation from deluded drunkard. I pity any traveler who tends to get road direction from you. |
And just to let you know so you save yourself from future embarrassment before an enlightened audience, the wife of a Prime Minister can be referred to as a First Lady like in Australia where Hazel Hawke, wife of the former Prime Minister Bob Hawke and in Malaysia where the wife of PM Najib Tun Abdulrazaq are also referred to as the First Lady although this is not a very common usage, unlike the recent 'Spouse of the Prime Minister', calling the wife of a PM the 'First Lady' does not make anyone intellectually watery. What you should say, if you really knew what you were talking or had something tangible to contribute, is to say the usage is not common, and not that it is not used at all. Read more because I don't have to tell you the definition and usage of a 'First Lady' is subjective and varies from locale to locale. Oooooshey! #D'Banj's Voice.
Please save yourself certain public embarrassment. If the King or Queen or constitutional monarchy is still regarded as the ceremonial or statutory head of state in those countries, you can knock yourself out with labeling of the first lady. But as in the case of 1960 Nigeria where a president was the head of state and commander in chief, as Flora Azikiwe was known as the first lady and Azikwe who rode on open Land Rover to inspect the honor guard mounted by Nigerian armed forces, it is plain idiocy to label another lady of the era as first lady of Nigeria. Most Nigerians are fond of running gauntlet with illogicalities that seemed familiar to them. From the pitiful examples cited by the poster in the above crap, it is safe to say the dude is example of what is wrong with free education. Even if I am offered million dollars, I shall not help your education. |
Please, the wife or wives of a Prime Minister is/are not first lady/ladies of a country especially if the country has president and commander in chief. It is intellectually absurd for person with average intellect to inject silly facts into learning streams of undiscerning society. You have committed the same blunder before now when you posted the pictures of previous Nigerian heads of states. Tafawa Balewa was the prime minister not head of state or commander in chief. |
If the elections are free and fair or not in Nigeria, PDP will continue to win until the hell freezes up or a military coup that will abolish political parties and yet restart another "non-independent" electoral commission that will mandate Nigerians to yet form another sets of political parties. The party which the boys in khaki want to win the initial election will continue the circle. Nigeria is what it is, a jungle. It is very Nigerian and practical idiocy to introduce an association known for nothing such as All Progressives Congress (APC) into the discussion. Until the so-called APC is registered as a political party, it does not deserve a mention in intellectual discussion bordering on political parties. |
It is very funny how Nigerians tend to arrogate things through tribal prism. According to the quote allegedly accredited to Chinua Achebe, the statement of Asiwaju of Nigerian literature as it pertains to Nobel Prize and Wole Soyinka did not particularly pointed anybody. A European prize does not make anybody the Asiwaju or Duru or Idiris of Nigerian literature is a statement of generalization. |
It is a touch of madness or blindness or both to characterize Mallam Rochas Okorocha as being charismatic. He has been credited with statement lamenting the level of marginalization meted to Ndigbo by the ruling PDP. Please can someone tell Alhaji Okorocha that the worst marginalization to date is the one he meted the local government councils in Imo State. If Alhaji Rochas Okorocha’s record of political prostitution comes to play, I have no doubt that this street tout will be seen in PDP colors come 2015. |
debetmx: I am particularly shocked that you wrote what you just did. I could guess where you are from and your upbringing. I am sure you are from the tribe of the people who eat stone without drinking water. Kindly write your own truths or the ibo recycled chinua achebe "truths". Read my post again, I did not say an ibo man recorded the song, but the song became the "ibo national anthem" after your boys had killed Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa and the four most senior northern officers.I have gone through most of your silly posts and decided to allow you to wallow in idiocy-filled endeavor. You should not receive any corrective instances from me. Nairaland is just like cesspit called Nigeria where virtues give way to stupidities. What difference does it make whether I am from the ethnicity that eats dark colored “fofo” with palm oiled soup or not. The fact remains you are intellectually shallow. Only dumbass fool who is oblivious to military parlance will propagate a crap such as Francis Fajuyi gave his life to save Aguiyi. One wonders where is Aguiyi if a person had to give his/her life to secure the one of Ironsi. In addition, coup plotters have no time to give targeted individuals the option to live or die. I guess common sense is longer common among certain airheads called Nigerians. Does simple logic ever saw a day in your miserable life? During the night of July 29, 1966, the son of the soil in government house Ibadan did not have the command of gatemen talk less of military sentry. Even Francis Fajuyi’s ADC was kicking him like a soccer ball yet malnourished swine continued to propagate the propaganda made famous by the western regional government of Nigeria’s publication of 1967. The publishers of the junk were the same pajamas cowards who did not know the whereabouts of the Ironsi and Fajuyi two weeks after they were murdered. Sometimes, I fail to determine the source of reasoning of certain Nigerians. Why should Igbo make “Ewu Nebe Akwu” their national song when the two cities that celebrated the January 15, 1966 coup failed to do so? I guess if the Ijo exponent of song had song in Ijo, we shall not see this nonsensical and tribally induced argument. I am not in the business of palm-reading. So go to the libraries to cull the names of those Ironsi appointed to investigated the January 15, 1966 coup. It was a great opportunity to have met Nowa Omogui someplace in USA. I did not fail to give dues to him on the efforts of putting historical data together. By the same token, I let him eat his words where I found him irresponsibly condescending on the accounts of Nigeria/Biafra war. As for you, there is nothing for a basement lapper. |
debetmx: @ Igbo-son, I was banned but am back at y'all againSometimes, it is proper to call out patented fools. It is amazing that most Nigerians are intellectually lazy and retired to peddling innuendoes. How did the poster of above crap feel when regurgitating deliberate falsehood by feel-happy bastards who wanted favor from their northern masters? Most of panhandling bastards from southern region of Nigeria have been since shamed on the issue of “Ewu Nebe Akwa”. The artist of the song was not Igbo. What could be more conjectural than the idiocy displayed by the poster of above junk as he/she was very unable to differentiated seeds from chaffs as in the case of silly insinuation that Agaiyi appointed Mr. Trout who was Head of Special Branch (an expatriate), MD Yusuf and Isa Adejo to investigate the January 15, 1966 coup? In fact, the best answer to market dunces is mute. I really do not blame the poster but fiddlers such as Nowa Omogui and host of other armchair historians bent on currying favor from their northern masters. |
People such as goofy Odia Ofeimun and entities like the Committee for Relevant Art, CORA which invited the airhead for book launching is one among many reasons Nigeria needs to be disintegrated. Eastern Nigeria was not a country and one wonders how Awolowo could be telling Ojukwu to prepare for war or not. The moronic Odia Ofeimun could have, at least, interrogated himself on the possibility of defenseless folks itching for war when such fracas is not precipitated upon them. Facts remain that Biafra did not declare war on Nigeria but expressed the desire to exit independent of Nigeria. If the drooling egghead in Odia Ofeimun could avoid wetting his pants when pressed, he could have suggested that Gowon and leadership of Nigeria be tried for precipitating a war of attrition on people who did not wish death to Nigerians but simply wanted to leave in place they could call home. I curse the day that saw me as a compatriot of this jackass called Odia Ofeimun. |
berem: Akuko n'egwu! Stop quoting me then. you can go on with your silly comments without quoting me. yeye!Wonders shall never fail to occur. In your finite wisdom, you moronically considered your ugly self quotable. If, at all, I am bitter over the idiotic shenanigans of street tout called Rochas Okorocha, it is due to avoidable social torture the people of Imo State go through the hands of scammer such as Okorocha every day. I am made in life and glory to Chineke for such gratuity. It is regrettably pitiful that Imo State people have panhandlers such as you among them. |
Reagan once said “Trust but Verify”. Ndigbo and Biafrans had trusted these backstabbers before and verification of such trust had been regrettable to say the least. I can not trust anybody socially or politically from western region, certain parts of mid-western region, northern region or certain parts of eastern region. |
berem: What's so insulting if i advise you to contest for Governor of Imo State? If you know you ain't qualified for the job, allow people who are qualified like Rochas to govern the state effectively! It's obvious your hate and bitter utterances emanated from Ohakim's loss in the last election in Imo. I still maintain that you and other of your cohorts embezzled money belonging to Imo state through frivolous contracts.I usually detest the idea of engaging loudmouthed truants such as you in jaundiced talk of emptiness. The reference of my qualification or not in your previous post as regards the governance of Imo State is empty. Also, it is a matter of irreparable delusion to link me with Ohakim. I can not even point out Oahkim from moog photos talk less of doing business with him. You need to be reminded that Imo State shall remain standing while Alhaji Rochas Okorocha is gone, at least, in 3 years from now. |
Please for the sake of Igbo people in particular and Biafrans in general, I had to beg anybody who had the ears of Wole Soyinka to tell him to desist from responding to careless innuendos of Internet fiddlers. Wole Soyinka, you should not allow the respect you singlehandedly earned among Ndigbo and Biafrans to go down the drains because of idle talkers dwelling foolishly on Achebe’s issue. All the meaningful Igbo chaps and Biafrans hold Wole Soyinka, Ayo Ariyo, Tai Solarin and Ijebu Cocoa Farmers/Agbakoya in high esteem that shall last a life time. |
berem: I have longed stopped taking your comments about Rochas serious on this forum Oga Dede. it's obvious your hate for Rochas is becoming nauseating than ever before. it's people like you who distract Rochas from providing dividends of democracy for Imo people with your scandalous statements. If you think you are better than him in governing Imo state, nothing stops you from contesting for governor. stop whining and complaining simply because he blocked all routes from where you and other looters have been milking Imo State Treasury dry. Quit your hate and join hands with the governor to move the state forward.I had thought your delusion concerning certain political issues has been downgraded. I considered it as an insult you insinuated I should consider a job occupied by Rochas Okorocha whose previous paying job was a butler to Solomon Lar. Please be informed that I do not need Nigeria to eke out a living. I have never taken a cent from Nigeria talk less of Imo State. |
Man, I married an ikwerre woman.
It is true that birds of the same feathers flock together. Any full blooded Igbo girl who considered Rhinoceros as an acquaintance talk less of friend needs to be shot. I now realized why my grandfather strictly warned me not to engage in woman’s discussion with an unmarried man especially jackasses such as Rhinoceros. Please do not take this attack seriously. You presented a target and I had to take it. |
@Abagworo and @berem You have been repeatedly told to wise up on issues pertaining to Imo State and Alhaji Rochas Okorocha. Even a drooling fool knows that Rochas Okorocha is solely responsible for awarding contracts of one billion naira or above in Imo State. Thanks goodness there is no deputy governor to be blamed for the alleged kick back of N24 million. It is funny to read that the patented tout in Rochas Okorocha awarded a contract for Imo State Judiciary Commission which he has engaged in a destructive and protracted battle. Moronic Rochas Okorocha had tried to dismiss the members of the commission so that his unqualified bedmate will assume the presidency of the commission. However, it is unfortunate Alhaji Rochas Okorocha did not realize he was dealing with people who are more educated than him in all phases of human endeavor. Due to the impasse Rochas Okorocha created between the commission and his government, the street tout named Okorocha will not appoint a magistrate until he, Rochas Okorocha, is booted out of office. If this joker called Okorocha knew anything, he would have avoided messing with the Imo State Judiciary Commission. Unfortunately, Okorocha, like his imbecilic praise singers, indulges in issues beyond his intellectual pedigree. In fact, Imo State is punk. |
Must Brig. Gideon Alabi-Isama also lie because Obasanjo lied? In the theater of the war under 3MCDO, Alabi-Isama never commended a Brigade. Surely, goofy character was an unfortunate sector commander. He knew everything in Nigeria but his father’s compound. |
The debaters on this topic of Nigerian quota system can the run the marathon to the end and fact remains that Nigeria is a useless contraption by the British. I had expect 200 cutoff mark for southwestern states of Nigeria since they enjoyed the so-called “Fee Education” and loudmouthed Yoruba chaps are always claimed to be first in anything. |
I have never seen or heard any Eche person who has denied being Igbo. Even the silly madness witnessed around PHLGA through the change of names of places from Umu to Rumu did not spill over to Eche. Even in Ikwerri LGA, places with names beginning with Umu still remain unchanged. However, there are bunch of delusional Ikwerri characters that seemed to deny being Igbo yet do not know the connotation of the word-Isiokpo, the capital city of Ikwerri LGA. |
Abagworo: I don't know of any part of Imo State without electricity. As for the streetlights, they are mostly solar and bright. Okorocha does not display his achievements like many people make it seem to be. Same goes with Amaechi of Rivers. I don't know where people got the impression of Okorocha being a showman or maybe because news about him attracts several readers, the media seem to write too much about the man. They even twist his statements just to sell. There is no doubt you can say or write good things about Okorocha in order to quench the thirsty for delusional and glorified praises. There are some places in Oguta, Orsu and Ohaji/Egbama LGAs that do not have power lines talk less of electricity. |
what your post should say is " In Modern day Igbo land....
My post refers to the era of my grandmother. It is unfortunate that Ogbodu seems to talk about sacrificial ingredients in masquerade rituals with Odukwu. |
EVIL is you DENYING the FACTS and warping things to suit your myopic reasoning. If you READ (as reading is FUNdamental) then you will KNOW in your history states like Imo, and Amambra had practices of Women-husbands where the women MARRY other WOMEN to give them children. For your reference you can read The Forger's Tale: The Search for Odeziaku By Stephanie Newell (Pgs 9, 12, 97, 102 etc talk more about it) Beneath the Equator by Richard G. Parker Heroes in Igbo Life and Culture by Chukwuma Azuonye and Donatus Nwoga Boy Wives and Female Husbands: Studies of African Homosexualities.” by Roscoe FYI: I DO know my surname. Do you? Being mixed has NOTHING to do with knowing your heritage, I have spent time in Nigeria, and come from a family of IGBO SCHOLARS and understand the "Omenaala" . Try again with your bullsh*t. It is simps like you who convolute reasoning to equal support. Call a SPADE a SPADE. IF something was you state the FACT, It is NOT my preference however it will be a LIE to deny its pre-existence
Please have you being involved in process in Igbo land where a woman marries another woman? It is very unfortunate you are foolishly dwelling on a subject matter you are grossly ill-informed. It could be acceptable if you had proffered hearing there is an instance a woman is brought to the family of deceased man whose initial wife could not bear him a child. From your posts, I guess the intrigues of such circumstances are beyond your knowledge of marital process between men and women talk less of about the so-called woman marrying a woman. |
It is unfortunate that a character is trying very hard to twist facts to suit a selfish end. In Igbo land, fact is a woman cannot embark on a journey of marital matters with a jar of palm wine on her head. |
@OP I do not understand what and where the poster referenced as Niger Delta because for reality sake, there no delta formed by River Niger. In addition, the people who inhabit the deltas found in southern Nigeria produce nothing but smoked fish and ogogoro. By any stretch of imagination, there is no way smoked fish and ogogoro can sustain the economy of Nigeria. I really do not understand why most Nigerians can not articulate intelligently |
tawa89: LOL Dede relax Rochas is a good man. I think he has the right to associate with any1 he chooses .You have being away for a long time i think. If other governors in other states are commissioning STREET LIGHTS, Owelle puts them without inviting the press and without any fanfare. People in Imo keep asking where he got all the money he uses to develop Imo. This is the only Governor in this country that gives his security vote of about 6billion naira back to the people inform of free and compulsory education .No governor in this country does that. So Dede sheath your sword.I have always tried to avoid blind argument with my brothers and sisters who seemed to have been taken by the political shenanigans of street touts such as Alhaji Rochas Okorocha. It is unfortunate characters such as you have been drowned by the blatant falsehood about Alhaji Rochas Okorocha giving up his security vote. If he has remotely done so, ADAPALM, ITC, Imo State Printing, etc would have been run by the indigenes of Imo State. Imo State government gets allocation from federal government which included UBE and local government funds. One wonders what Alhaji R. Okorocha does with the fund since he has destroyed the local government system in Imo State. The UBE scheme takes care of free education in Imo State. Why has the price tag for certain scholastic forms increased in Imo State if the street tout in Okorocha has given up a slight portion of his so-called security vote? Alhaji Rochas Okorocha of Imo State can fool most of the citizens of the state but not all. It is foolhardy to inject the instances of STREET LIGHTS in a discussion about development in place where there is no electricity. |
