BlueRayDick:Omah Lay doesn't do Afrobeats. He's what you'd call an Afro-alternative music artiste. Like Tems and Nonso Amadi, Omah Lay makes music for people who like to get lost in their own head and are comfortable with drowning out the world. Not about social consciousness or partying or anything the world bothers with. Just in the moment. Evergreen. Don't underrate Stanley, please. |
More like a live update of fanatics holding on to the every utterance of some self-acclaimed intermediary between the divine and mortals; obsessed that our finite mortal existence mean more than what it means. Like there's some grand scheme to their individual existence. But in truth, you and I are just doing exactly what we should do - live; no grander scheme to your existence than just living. Religious folks are pretty interesting. The overly-religious bothering on fanatical like these Shiloh ones make me even more weary. |
andrewbaba44:Your words. Your attempt at revisionism and backtracking are only as effective as a struggling deer in a boa constrictor's grip. I've laid bare your hypocrisy and double-speak for the viewing public to assess. Point(s) made. ![]() |
andrewbaba44:Overworked and underaged Gavi getting more game time even in the senior national team and justifying it. Cognitive dissonance? Selective amnesia? Full-on madness? andrewbaba44: andrewbaba44:There's more when you expand your search to "Andrewbaba44 Gavi Bellingham" . The single-digit-IQed hermit has always insisted Gavi is at Bellingham's level and deserves game time always. |
iamoyindamola:No, I didn't. I had a demo, but another guy was already working on it. Seeing the result, he did well. He's still updating it. I've pivoted to fuse the concept I had with the digital repository I'm working on. --- You needed to have seen the Rivers State Government website about a year ago before malware attacked it. It was awesome. It was even better than New York State website ny.gov in terms of UX. (And ny.gov is the best U.S. state government website based on UI/UX and functionality.) |
Corruption asides, I noticed something about the digital presentation of state governments - state government websites . As at September 2022 , Rivers State had the best state government website in terms of user interface and user experience based on researching all the websites. The colour scheme was perfect! PERFECT! - Zamfara was 2nd. - Ondo State was 3rd. - Akwa Ibom was a distant 8th. - Lagos' was horrible. In 2023 (when I checked few minutes ago), they all had redesigned and redeveloped. Abia and Akwa Ibom are competing for number one. I still can't decide. Enugu should be number one but the user experience is below the two above. Slow load time and page speed. Interestingly, it is custom-coded. Nice. Lagos State still has a horrible one. Shocking because billions are budgeted and Lagos has a large talent pool of developers who'd do it even for free just to reference it on their portfolio. I'd probably have to create time to do a full article/report soon enough. |
iamoyindamola:Two years ago, Wike banned Chelsea in Rivers State "due to noise pollution". https://www.nairaland.com/6540834/gov-wike-bans-chelsea-fans ![]() |
andrewbaba44:Maybe. But you do realize playing Gavi in all games (and crucial ones too) was how he got to shine and stay visible enough to beat a Jude Belligram to the Young Player's Award, right? What if De la Fuente had good intentions? |
iamoyindamola:True now that I think of it. It's more than a coincidence that the (suspected) psycho cases we've encountered in this section are all Chelsea fans. ALL. |
timbros:In Timbros' defense, I just wanted to know what alternative he had to Rohr; better alternative. The flow of the back-and-forth showed I wasn't pushing any agenda beyond wanting to know who he thinks is a better alternative. --- Wait... Why am I defending a Chelsea fan on a footballing issue? |
liveLongNprospa:Happy birthday, man. May the subsidy of favours never be removed from your life. And if it ever is, may the all of the saved goodness in the universe be judiciously used to grow your fortunes. May good health never be rigged from you. Flawed as you are, may your FBI files never be released. Have a corn-free day! |
Isn't it funny how the main topic got muddied from the gross ráping of public coffers by a government certain persons have always cheered on to distractive attacks on individuals, with the detractors refusing to address the issue? Lesson: Regardless of the diversionary tactics (plausible or staged), focus on the point you intend to make with the facts available and only yield to superior arguments/facts. The moment you veered off to defend your person and motives for calling out the corrupt government and those who support them, you lost the plot. They took over the narrative. ![]() |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:Drink on your hubris until it's time to go to Ukanafun to point out any Ndoki lands and you'd lose your limbs. But what do i expect from a dude who said King Jaja was not the founder of Opobo.?Again, Jaja didn't found Opobo. Jaja was born just 202 years ago, and was a captured slave from the hinterlands (you know where) until as recently as 160 years ago. Opobo, in contrast, had grown beyond a fishing port, and with nearby Ikot Abasi and the areas around, had already been a slave port for 300 years, oil palm later, and the centre of British rule. Ikot Abasi being the centre of the area. Opobo existed and was defined before Jaja was born. I have media files I took with my own hands checking out these places. I have posted some yesterday to counter lies. |
BlueRayDick:That's for him, but I have referenced specific places, times, and people. Comments of tribal appropriation have cost lives and continue to do so. I once stated years ago on this forum that calling an Ikwerre man Igbo could lead to your death. Call an Ika man of Akwa Ibom State same and you'd lose your limbs. The Ukanafuns of Akwa Ibom, while relatively peaceful, are very dexterous with matchetes, and calling their community which has always been Ibibiod an "Ndoki people" like Okpa did even as a joke would incur grave consequences, material and bodily. Let's not even go to civilisation and those who had defined forms of writing for close to a thousand years. That's an even more humiliating story for him. History is history. Emotions are emotions. |
This dude is hellbent on stoking a full-blown tribal war as reminiscent of what happens in the Politics Section on this thread even when those he's engaging are obviously restraining themselves not to go down that path. You are forcing ethnicities of certain tribes to admit they are of your stock even when they have repeatedly denied it and identified their sources. Comments like yours have started deadly clashes in Rivers State with the Ikwerres, and with other people like the Inis and Etim Ekpos even in recent years. Comments like yours are precautionary tales to others like the Yoruba when you try to refer to parts of their ancestral lands as "No man's land". We know those who built kingdoms and had organised societies for centuries before the whites arrived what is today Southern Nigeria. We know those who led the slave raids and those who were preyed upon. But for the sake of unity, some of us steer clear of opening that can of worms. You either let it go or watch your history be laid bare and your ancestors humiliated. |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:You don't have to. But it points to how deep I have dug and the network of seasoned historians (academic and traditional) and literature I have availed and continue to avail myself of; and physical inspections of these places of interest in the course of building it. History is contentious. People get slaughtered for it daily like the Azumini people would tell you, so when I make claims, they have been fact-checked to be true. But for the sake of optics, don't give in to the truth too easily. Punch hard and make a show of it. |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:Funny. You are arguing with me, the guy who is building a digital repository of the state's history and more like I mentioned here two months ago, and had a mini version launched in October 2020 about Akwa Ibom history? Hubris maybe. I've explained why some border/neighbouring communities speak the languages of their neighbours. |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:Wrong. Jaja didn't found Opobo. Opobo was already a defined fishing port and trading area, even when Jaja was a slave. He rose through the ranks to earn rights through valour and wealth. This attempt to whitewash history is no different from historians who claim Mungo Park discovered an existing River Niger which had trade routes and established communities for over a thousand years. |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:The Opobos are my neighbours just across a small strip of water and they are Ijaws. Opobo. Ibeno, Eastern Obolo. These are triangulated areas, with the former being Ijaws, and the later two being of mixed Ibibio and Ijaw ancestries. You are from faraway Nsukka in Enugu State telling me who my neighbours are? You either learn or argue with emotions. --- Ogoja people of Cross River speak and have always spoken fluent Efik (an Ibibio dialect), but they aren't Ibibiod. |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:LOL. You'd hear names like "Okoro" in Akwa Ibom parts of border communities and "Okon" in Abia parts of communities. Happens a lot in some border areas. Some Ogoni villages speak and understand Ibibio, just like some Opobo parts do. But I'd be overreaching to refer to them as Ibibios or Ibibio communities. States were not properly divided. If you're from Arochukwu in Abia State, you have more in common with me (an Ibibio man) ancestry-wise than an Enugu man. But that's not for today. |
Ibime: Ibime:We had it re-gazetted to "1929 Women Massacre", but some persons are still being cunning about it to push a narrative. We've even written official letters to media houses which wrongly call it "Aba Women Riot". And it wasn't a riot. Unarmed women protesting heavy taxation were shot dead over the course of days. Picture 1: The statue of Madam Udoma (mother of Sir Egbert Udo Udoma, first African with a PhD in law from Oxford University, supreme court justice, and Chief Justice of Uganda) who led the protests in front of what is today Ikot Abasi LG council in Akwa Ibom. Picture 2: 1929 Women War Memorial (one of only two in the world) in Ikot Abasi just metres away. The main protestors were Ikot Abasi women and Opobo women who crossed over to protest. Nothing to do with Aba.
|
OkpaNsukkaisBae:There are no Ndoki people in Ukanafun LGA in Akwa Ibom. The Ukanafuns are even more Ibibiod than the Etim Ekpos. The border area of Azumini and surrounding areas in Etim Ekpo LGA are contested but speak Igbo as well as the Ibibio language. The Abia State part speak the Ibibio language too. They aren't Ndoki people. Forget the shit on Wikipedia. The same Wikipedia claims it's Aba Women Riot meanwhile the 1929 Women Massacre (it wasn't just a riot) happened at Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom, close to Lugard House right on the Ocean and has a Women War Memorial built on the site of the massacre. |
Ibime:Lived, took on an Ibibio bride, and went into the hinterlands. But made the Ikot Abasi port his abode. Made sense so he could oversee his export business as oil palm had replaced slavery. Where he lived still exist till date at Ikot Abasi. |
Ibime:Actually, there is. Being freed was how Jaja of Opobo could live freely at Ikot Abasi which is a Southern Ibibio area and right on the Ocean. And if he wasn't free, he'd have been captured and resold. The Southern Ibibios and Ijaws were notorious slave-dealers (another reason I shit on those who blame the West for slavery) and raided or acted as middlemen for slaves. Ikot Abasi itself was the HQ of shipping slaves to the Americas or other parts, and later the HQ of British Administration. No slave would have walked free there. |
iamoyindamola:Those who divided Southern Nigeria into states were stupid. The Abribas of Abia State should should have been in Akwa Ibom, or some sort of arrangement which kept them with their kindred, the Ibibios. Parts of Etim Ekpo in Akwa Ibom should have been in Abia State. The Opobos of Rivers, and Ibenos and Eastern Obolos should never have been divided. Maybe a federal constituency or even a state of their own. The Eastern Obolos are too Ijaw to be Ibibio, yet too Ibibio to be Ijaw. The Ibenos got smart and are erasing their part Ijaw ancestry to mix up with the main Ibibio stock. All these peoples were regarded as related under the British and ruled so, so why divide them? |
"Opobo is just a subgroup of Bonny who split out under Jaja of Opobo during the Bonny civil war and chased the Ibeno off their land to found what we now call Opobo." Not true. Jaja of Opobo resided in Ikot Abasi LGA in Akwa Ibom (just where you have the Bridge of No Return) after he was freed from slavery. Opobo was already a defined place before Jaja crossed over to go be its king. The relatives of the Opobos are the Eastern Obolos who were nomadic fishermen and given land to settle on the shore by the Southern Ibibios (the Ikot Abasi). Over the centuries, they intermarried and are no longer distinctively Ibibio or Ijaw - a mix of both. The whole of Ikot Abasi, Eastern Obolo, and Mkpat Enin in Akwa Ibom and Opobo in Rivers were administered under Opobo Division during the colonial era. The Ibenos were traditionally a nomadic fishing people who are a mix of Ijaw and Ibibio, and never owned lands except those given by the Ekid (Eket) - another Southern Ibibio ethnicity. The Ibenos didn't own Opobo to begin with. Present-day Opobo. like Ibeno and Eastern Obolo, were fishing ports. There was no war or chasing. The actual war was between the Southern Ibibios and Ogonis. |
In light of the recent happenings at OpenAI with co-founders being sacked, I remembered the back-and-forths we had on this thread 7 months ago about the slippery shark-invested waters of venture capitalism. Sam Altmann is its latest prey. |
onumadu:There are no distinctive Igbo-speaking tribes or ethnicities in Akwa Ibom. If anything, the Abribas of Abia State speak an Ibibio language and, of course, understand Ibibio. Border LGAs in Akwa Ibom and Abia understand Ibibio and Igbo collectively. |
Tech founders are bad at navigating the slippery world of venture capitalism. One moment, and the rug is pulled from under you. If you're going to seek VC, always maintain Supervoting Stock else you'd be kicked out from your company. |
" The severance package includes 4 months’ salary, [accelerating equity vesting, extending health insurance by 3 months, and more." Accelerated equity vesting? Damn! These employees had the juiciest contracts. With PayStack's increasing valuation, they are made. Just divest into other interests. |
