justdogitto:You still like head of fish? Lol |
And who is he? I suppose that should be the purpose of this thread. |
MissRaine69:You understand what "global" is, right? In your case you're not just going off a tangent, you're jumping (leaping) off the tangent. And because you've placed so much import on being right, something that should be a discussion has evolved into an argument about who is smarter. And you have failed to realize you're running in circles. Maybe it will help, if you reread everything I said on this subject so far. |
MissRaine69:I am not saying that depression discriminates. At a point even Bill Gates suffered from depression despite being the world's richest man. My point is about seeking help. Health seeking behaviour generally is better for the educated than the illiterate. So in reference to my doctor friend, he should have been better placed to seek for help but he couldn't, thus buttressing my point about the global difficulty in seeking help for depression. Try to understand my points before jumping off the tangent. |
MissRaine69:I didn't imply my friend was immune, but given his education. He should have been more prone to getting help and if he couldn't it will be much more worse than the general population. That was the picture I tried to portray. And we wouldn't be having this conversation if this chat was not put on the internet. So it did serve some purpose. Howbeit it has raised awareness. The intent of the uploader cannot be judged since you have no telepathy skills. |
MissRaine69:You can't tell what the purpose of showing that chat was, since you cannot read his thoughts. But it has sure raised awareness on how surreal suicide is, and some people have become more educated about getting help for people depressed around them. You're experienced. But you must remember that not all suicidal ideation translate into attempt at suicide, and the guy didn't know better, now he does. Didn't they say "experience is the best teacher" unfortunately at the loss of his friend. A while back a friend, a medical doctor committed suicide and considering his training he was a high risk because he knew how best to end a life. I was stunned when I learnt about it. I wouldn't believe in a thousand years that he would contemplate that. The attitude towards mental health is global, and worse in our country with little literacy and awareness about clinical depression (only mad people visit a psychiatrist). It's sad. |
Ziel20:You shouldn't blame the guy. He was inexperienced and he did what he could. The problem is Nigeria. If it was societies where things worked, and he didn't call 911, for the lady to get emergent psychiatric assessment then we will say he "fvked up". There are people who have stated they had suicidal ideation but never went through with it. Actually statistics show that majority of suicidal ideation doesn't end in an attempt at suicide. The young man was not a psychologist or psychiatrist and only tried to encourage his friend and make her feel strong, but he had no idea how bad the situation was. No one does. |
Doctor Macgyver. |
OAUTemitayo:I follow you laugh my brother. |
Houseofglam7:Do Europeans or Americans eat fufu? But did you know that a number of churches in the US share some sort of food after church services? |
MissRaine69:Makes a lot of sense. We sure don't have forensic anthropologists in Nigeria. I got a peek into how geeky forensic anthropologists can be from the American show "Bones". Now to my question, " how sensitive and specific is your assessment"? Maybe I could enroll for mentorship. Lol |
MissRaine69:Parity by pelvis inspection. That is a gift or I could add plain voodoo. Will you teach me? |
gidgiddy:The Britain through the parliament can authorize a referendum else there would have not been a Brexit referendum, in our case there is not a remote semblance of that. Every topical issue with no clear compromise in the Parliament can be subjected to a referendum vote to assess where the masses stand. As long as that is not in our constitution, there can never be a referendum in Nigeria. The smart way to go about the Biafran pursuit is to play the political game. Tactically push for restructuring, because if the country is restructured and the center is made weaker than the regions (states), and issues like resource control, policing, revenue collection is left to the regions. The weaker our pseudo federalism is made and the regions come to realize that they can thrive on their own without the oil in the south, they can be more keen to considering a secession. |
MissRaine69:I'm sorry, if you perceived my responses as hostile. That was not the intention. |
MissRaine69:Do you think the list of most dangerous jobs is arbitrarily drawn up? Statistical analysis is involved and I can bet you that whatever list you produce the study was not done in Nigeria and hence such data is not relevant to the population of our context. With the minimal statistics available to us, more soldiers fighting the Boko Haram insurgence die than the number of deaths from flight accidents in Nigeria. So I can categorically tell you that a soldier in those warfront not just every soldier has a far more occupational hazard than whatever tops that your list. |
MissRaine69:Are you evading the question? The question was not about your job. Does every job have the same hazard level, "yes or no"? |
MissRaine69:While you are right on that. I want to ask you, does every job have equal hazard levels? |
MissRaine69:She doesn't. But the risk of having a civilian husband and a military husband in Maiduguri with the stories we hear about how the army is under equipped is not the same. While there is a probability that some who were in Sambisa forest might eventually return and could live a good long old life, but those odds are bleak. It is all about probability. Every job has a different level of risk. |
The young man is in a high risk occupation, her point is logical. But I don't understand the part of "we can date but never get married". What is the essence of the dating? To get guilt free sex? (I have heard things like "I only slept with him, because we were dating" ) or is it to have her financial needs met? Don't date if you're not ready for marriage. Don't date someone you deem is not marriageable. Dating is not marriage, and if you have sex while dating it is premarital sex and fornication hence there is no justification for it. |
Warship:Ojukwu almost won that war within the first year of that war. After Benin fell, it was a matter of few months and they would have reached Lagos. But instead of making a local the head of government for the newly formed Republic of Benin, he rather made an Igbo man a head. This further made the young republic feel like a conquered territory of Biafra, thus driving a schism between the locals and the Biafran soldiers, the locals who made food for them poisoned a number of them, and then the Nigerian army came into Benin, Emmanuel Ifeajuna and Victor Banjo who were the spearhead of the troop in Benin retreated, this eventually led to their execution for treason. Morale went down and the war would never be the same again. A war in this time will have even a more disastrous casualty toll than that of 1967 considering the number of Igbos outside of the Biafran territory. And since the Igbos are largely hated, it will be just like the aftermath of the 1966 coup. |
gidgiddy:Do you know what happened to people's investment outside of the south east after the civil war. Igbos even lost their properties in neighboring Port Harcourt not to talk of the core North. If not that a referendum is not in the Nigerian constitution, you would have seen how the referendum will fail woefully because of the diversity of the Igbos. And the only way there will be a referendum is if the constitution is amended. And with the way Kanu is going, that is not going to happen. If you think the UN will compel a sovereign nation to go against their constitution, then think again. If we had a regional government, it could have been easier for the south eastern region to declare independence, just like Catalonia did 2 years ago, yet all their fight for independence over the years has failed woefully and they are still a part of Spain. |
Warship:The man is a perennial talkative with no realistic action plan. The Igbo's are the most travelled people in Nigeria, go to Maiduguri and you will probably see a number of Igbo landlords, Maiduguri of all places. He has not even started formulating agreements that would show that he has an idea of what is on ground. See a much more simpler Brexit move that is running amock now, only because they didn't get to formulate the Brexit plan before the referendum. The House keeps voting against all the PM formulations. Things like what system of government we will practice are things that should be laid out. Let me see how a man who has chains of businesses and landed property in the North and South West will agree to a secession without knowing what will happen to his life investment. It is no wonder the bulk of his (Kanu) fans are either abroad or businessmen/artisans limited to the South East. But the truth is that the best way to secede will be a harmonious decision by all parties involved not by war. If it could not be done in 1967, it cannot be done now. |
Kingkun69:None of the above. |
gypsey:I get your point about how random searches could help catch an unsuspecting criminal. But in the US, any criminal arrested on random search without a probable cause with a good defense counsel could walk. That's how interesting their judicial system is. Murderers who gave confessions under duress have walked because the confessions became inadmissible in court after it was proved beyond reasonable doubt that the confession was obtained the wrong way. But sometimes probable cause may not be hard to prove, for instance. If a Lexus 300 was stolen around here, the police in the nearest checkpoint has a probable cause to stop all Lexus 300 and request for particulars. But most times proving probable cause over random searches could be a herculean task. And my point has been that, if they want to search, they had better have probable cause for the search, so that it is not just unnecessary harassing of law abiding citizens just like SARS is wont to do. |
gypsey:Remember, Nigeria is not a place to use the probable cause argument because our Justice system is still very much archaic. The Rule of Law is never sacrosanct. But my response was in respect to the person who tried to compare Nigeria with saner climes, by saying they could also search you randomly in the saner societies. For instance in saner climes, the police cannot just fabricate a story that there was a robbery and the suspect fit the description else they will need to provide evidence of the robbery and might need to produce the person that gave the description and if the description was a 911 call they might also be asked by the defense counsel to provide that for the jury/judge to hear it. But in Nigeria, anything goes. So if you're stopped "na to jejely" allow them search you and answer them "yes sir" because if they accuse you of anything false, you might as well be gone, if you don't have someone in the ranks in politics/army/police to save you. |
thegoodone1234:Did you even care to find out what "probable cause" is before saying I am wrong? |
NwanyiAwkaetiti:Dude, I guess you're there and know better than me. If you don't know what "probable cause" is. Just google it and stop embarrassing yourself with your ignorance. |
NwanyiAwkaetiti:They will need to prove probable cause for executing the search, and if they cannot. Even if you're found with kilos of heroin with the intent to distribute. The arresting officer would have only blown the case. |
They can only search you if they have probable cause. Without that, anything they find from the search should be illegal and should not be admissible in a law court. But, again we are in Nigeria where the rule of law is not sacrosanct and the citizens have no value in the sight of the people who have the power. |
SmellySperm:I guess you don't know what a cigar is. Lol |
gidgiddy:If he won that war, it might as well have been. But he lost, because of his inflated ego. |
Keepmaster:The man was disillusioned into thinking that UN will authorize a Sovereign nation to organize a referendum against their constitution. He didn't see Catalona that has been fighting for independence from Spain since God knows when, so he could be informed. Unless the constitution is changed, there could never be a Biafra, that's reality but the IPOBians will not believe that. Play the politics, get scores of high ranking politicians on your side, win over the elites and literate folks, traditional rulers. But he was busy making himself king. "Make he come rule, make we see". |
