Wow are you serious 0.35 that’s like a thickness of aluminum foil unbelievable, I have never used any less then 0.55 thickness. An interested subject issue to discuss. Lets
have deep view about it from the experts in the house. I have always wondering about the thickness of those aluminum under the stones coats and the weights, again why are some of them faded? Are those ones not original. I’ve not seen any faded or defects ones in west despite the fact they have the most harsh weather in there climates. Many of them has been installed for over 70 years without any maintenance, still looks good till date.

I did ask that question because I do wonder the kind of advice home owners do get from builders...
1.are perspective home owners getting the right advice
2.are overzealous builders just demanding for certain materials because it is what building demands or what they demand etc
3.what does building code say(non existent in some cases)

i don't work anymore with roofing today but I still have contact with my old mentors who are private roofing contractors and one still work at one of the companies respectively...
First stint as IT student...and after uni... worked 6years before moving for greener pastures ...
I have worked with two of best aluminium companies in Nigeria and have climbed over 250 roofs even industrial buildings with steel trusses...while most of our roofings are southern part of the country...I dont remember any 0,55 quotations with my name(company quotations are co-signed) on it which are not
1.steel trusses
2.industrial building's wall claddings
3.flatroof with slightly above 10-15% pitch
4.where customer insist or makes that request .

Money is not first instance of what customers gets...
1. Heights
2.roofing styles
2.environmental conditions;rain and winds etc...

I don’t have time to carry out repair on Aluminum roof always
My 1st personal house built 14 years ago was roofed with asbestos and one other building for a Client ( relative) was the only two building I used such All others are 0.55guage Aluminum or Gerald step tiles ..
I don’t use anything lesser than this

On dry land as you said, prepare something in region of 18-20m this depends others additional members like parapet or concrete facia, this is south west ballpark figure to the roofing stage with long span Aluminum of 0.55guage

On side note cost estimating is QS professional job it’s just a side work for a Builder based on past and current project experience.

I have to change strategies here. I know I cannot hope to complete all 12 flats and rent them at once, so I will move to complete at least 2 flats and rent them out, since the demand for these units are high around here. Then I can use the small rent realised to tackle another flat or two.

It can't.
It can never be substituted for wrought iron used in reinforced concrete.
Note:
We don't just use any iron for reinforcement in concrete. The name of the iron used is called wrought iron.
Why?
It has a high tensile stress: when acted upon, it does break at a go, it stretches instead (bends).
When that bamboo dries inside the concrete, it will turn to some thing like galvanised pipe.
If there's a reason for it to break, it will let go easily.
This is a topic 4 anoda day.

Well so many of the mud houses were built with bambo as support.....recently i was looking at a mud house which was built 1974 was later modernized; cement plastered late 90s.....it was just brought down..the bamboos were still intact ...
I am not saying it can act as replacement or substitute but bamboo been used for years....

Beware of this dishonest, fraudulent, not trustworthy man who do not keep to written agreement

I contacted Mr Agbaje ( SKUP008 as Monika) on 1st September 2020 after viewing his thread and works on Nairaland. He was contacted to do a decorative stamped floor for my house in my hometown

Due to my experiences, I ensured we had a written signed agreement stating all his verbal promises including a ONE YEAR WARRANTY on the floor job stated before I gave him the contract

I kept to my financial obligations. Skup008 did his own part but before the job warranty date elapses, the floor started falling apart, cracking in multiple places

Gently, I contacted him about the issues with his works, initially he denied it was out of the warranty period , I refreshed his memories with our conversations on WhatsApp and the written agreement ( Thank God for experiences with dubious artisans) . He chilled and called these floor cracks “ expansion “ , which he said, was normal with all stamped floors . I disagreed with that fact and refused to be bamboozled by the use of a deluded terminology

I told him that I have seen stamped floors of more than 5yrs old with no such issue so I believe the multiple cracks are due to the shitty job he did and he has to come and repair it as per our written agreement. It is TIME that differentiate between a good job and a bad one

Later, he sent me a long list of materials to buy including paying for transportation for two people to come and rectify this issue… I declined spending a kobo more, after millions of Naira was paid initially for this job

As expected with arrogant and fraudulent artisans, he decided not to respond to my messages again, prompting me to commence my action from the forum I met him

I just wanna use this medium, that I met him , to warm potential clients to be very careful dealing with him so that they do not fall into wrong hands as I did

So sorry this happened to you...do you mind share more info on this ??

tmt is produce with iron ore, not the rods produce with the helping of scavenging irons or rusted irons, and they pass SON test (Standard Organization of Nigeria) they are like the imported ukraine iron rod in the standard, just like they windows fabricators we normally says tower Standard for aluminum windows, but in actual sense this tower Standard is not tower aluminum product in Nigeria but the imported aluminum, they have close to or equal to tower aluminum in Nigeria.

The regular local rod like LCI and TOP steel too are like tmt, they pass SON test for BS:4000 they produce with imported iron ore, but majority of locally made rod are products of scavenging irons, damage cars, trucks.

Pickers or scavengers sources their materials for them to produce, at the end, the irons they will produce can't be compare to irons produce directly with iron ore.

I dont know the prices but if you get either best aluminium or first aluminum colortek or even TOWER colorkote.... 0'55 should do the work...I understand you have steel roof truss....offcourse there are many other brands. .i mentioned my old work where I know they have uncompromised quality ....
