Olu317:Almost all Edoid groups make use of that name. I have also met many eastern yoruboid group with the name, but just like Itsekiri, the likes of Ikale and ilaje were also greatly influenced by Bini. Edema is also an household name in Ijebu. Maybe one group borrowed from the other. I asked a question about where the name Ogedegbe originated from some time ago and till date, I still couldn't get an appropriate answer. It's a famous name among my Edoid family and also a famous name in western Nigeria. AreaFada2:Then probably, the name Edema has different meaning to the two groups, in itsekiri, it means Gentleman and you just said it means things are good in Edoid. Edema used by the Itsekiri might be the same used by other Yoruba subgroups. My only issue with Nigerians is that they believe it's impossible for them to be influenced by minor group. Example, I was educating some people on this forum about how Okoro was a lost Edoid word and you need to see how I was devoured. The only reason they attacked me was because of Ego, in their mind how dare us majority get influenced by a tiny group. Lol |

EmptyGarden:Yes very alien. Probably the first time she is hearing starch can be cooked and consumed. |
EmptyGarden:When cooked, it is no longer poisonous. It is a delicacy found in Delta, Bayelsa and Edo. This was what I was trying to explain to her. |
jazon:You are correct, it never crossed her mind that people eat it when it's been cooked. I also noticed the garri there has less concentration of starch compared to ones we eat in Edo/Delta/Bayelsa. |
Travelled to my base the next month and when I returned, I brought starch and showed her a sample, also showed her my local spicies (Otieko, obelete) because I was preparing to make banger soup. I showed her the end product, while explaining to her how starch is cooked to give it that yellow appealing look. When she noticed I ate that meal that day, she was worried, she came knocking the next morning. Mama: (murmuring in Igbo) kpor kpor, You don wake ? Me: Yes mama, I they gidigban Even after she confirmed that cooked starch was part of my local delicacies, she never gave me, till I left, she continued disposing. Well, what can a local man do? |
Some years back, something took to the East. During my stay, i interacted with the locals, had a good relationship with my neighbors including my landlady who happens to be a farmer (Well, most were). While I was there, I noticed something strange. When processing cassava, the locals dispose all starch extract, a strange experience for a local man who hails from BenDel. One certain day, I approached my landlady to know exactly why she is disposing all starch extract from her recently processed Cassava. Me: Mama, why you they trowway this white thing, na correct starch be this, of you cook am en, use am knack banger, you go reach heaven Mama: (in Shock) una they eat this thing? Na poison ohhhh (In thick Igbo accent) Me: Ahhhh, mama we they cook am, use am step down ohwo and banger soup. Mama: This white thing so (starch), if you person eat am, e go die o, even when fowl eat am for ground, them they die instantly I persuaded her, convinced her that I needed the starch from henceforth (local man don see free ojo free), she reluctantly agreed. I went for my normal activities for the day and when I returned, I noticed she disposed everything. I then approached her. Me: Mama, belike you throwaway the starch with the way the ground they white one kind so Mama: (Called me by my name) no be my house you go take faint or eat poison. Lol |

aboyaji:Don't waste no time arguing with that moniker, he always try to act woke, maybe to impress some females on here. I read your submission and I don't see anything wrong in looking out for the interest of your brother, you can't see a brother entering danger and not do anything. My only advice for you, if your brother insists on marrying her, don't fight or force things, play along but keep your distance. |
descarado:Don't demonize our need for sex and food. Every healthy man craves sex. Having sex won't stop your from achieving your goals or exploring Mars. The men who travel to Jupiter and Saturn also have constant sex. It is an innate need in men that we shouldn't demonize or shy away from. |
Ekealterego:The combined population of all Edoid groups can't even match lol.. I will be too dumb and stupid to debate that. Subgroups alone, yes we can face them head to head but not the entire bloc. |
Ekealterego:From the screenshots, we can now agree that the Urhobos are the largest, also note that we didn't add the Urhobo population in Warri south and Patani. I once had a population census of the Midwest region (Delta & Edo) and the Urhobos were the overwhelming majority, having more people than the combined population of Bini and Ishan. |
Ekealterego:Just so you know, I'm not discussing politics with you, I'm just here to debunk your falsehood on Urhobo not been the biggest group in the state and you should stick to that argument. Delta state is made up of three senatorial district Delta North - Anioma and (Isoko minorities) Delta Central - Urhobo Delta South - Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko & Urhobo. Out of these senatorial districts, Delta Central is the most urbanized and it is also more densely populated compare to the others. Delta North on the other hand is the largest when it comes to landmass, but it is sparsely populated. In Delta Central you have three major towns, Warri (Uvwie, Okpe, Udu, now extending to Agbarho (Ughelli North)), Ughelli and Sapele. All these places are undisputed Urhobo territory and are populated majorly by the Urhobos. In Delta North, we have Agbor and Asaba, Agbor isn't much a big town and even though Asaba is more organized than warri, it still no match. Now in Delta South, there is an overwhelming population of Urhobo people in Warri south and Burutu. Now tell me, how is Anioma a bigger group? Aside Delta state, you find Huge indigenous Urhobo presence/population in Ondo, Edo and Bayelsa. The Urhobos may not occupy large territory, but they are a far bigger group that shouldn't be underrated. |
Ekealterego:Anioma larger than Urhobo? How do you come to this conclusion? Even with the support of the entire Onitsha, you can't easily swallow a group like Urhobo. Population isn't the same as land mass. |
owagbeba:I understand your point. But Iran shuns out more graduates than Nigeria and they are some of the top countries with the most STEM graduates in the world. What we need is total overhauling and Proper funding. Believe me, we don't even have enough graduates and professors when you consider our large population size.

DubaiLandLord:Before the oil and gas, the Urhobos ran the palm oil industry in Your region and dominated the trade. The Ijaws flourished with their fishing activities and the Efiks/Ibibio played huge roles in Nigeria's export of raw commodities. The Niger Delta is fairing just very well and the issue of bad leadership isn't limited to that region alone, we all are suffering from it. Instead of badmouthing a region that has fed this whole country for decades, why not appreciate them ? As it is now, do you think any state in Nigeria can survive without the resources got from that terrain? If is the South West that have the kind of oil located in the South South, we will be competing with South Africa in terms of infrastructure. What have you done with the oil and gas found in Ondo? Are the ilaje people living any different from their counterpart in the delta? Communities like Aiyetoro have been messed up due to oil activities, what have you done to transform that community into a mini London? |
tutudesz:I know. Lol. |
wirinet:When I want to engage my brothers from the other side, I do it in a civil and respectful way. It's normal we have some disagreements once in a while (lol), but not in this hateful manner. I can bet my left balls that he isn't Ijaw. These guys don't know how connected we all are. E.g I haven't met you, but I can predict you are paternally/maternally related to Ijaw or Urhobo. |
wirinet don't fall into the trap that guy is setting. I'm sure he isn't Ijaw. Keep the thread civil and ignore his rants. |
Vickyvice:Omigwo wasn't invented by poor people, it has been the way and custom of almost every Africans. It okay not to do certain things, but do you have to downgrade a practice that has helped lots of family? |
wirinet:Other kings have no history? Are you seriously saying this? Respect goes both ways sir, we respect your king and you should do so to others too. Seasons greetings! |

Osiris12:Even if we break-up and we don't change our current system of importing everything, we would still experience trade deficit. This is simple economics. We import more than the value we are creating. |
bomb24:The mods don't push educative content to the FP, Nigerians don't want content like this, they prefer sexual and all those irrelevant stuffs. I have created similar content, I even documented our sojourn to eastern yoruboid territory during the palm oil boom and that by the way influenced my argument with Igboid who appeared too paranoid. This thread was first created by him though. Also, notice how some people are already derailing by introducing tribal isssh, soon, the Yorubas will come in and then this thread will be Done for good.
