otokx:Very disappointing considering the fact that the Urhobos are some of the biggest and influential ethnic group in that city. The UPU house in Warri recently got a facelift, there is hope I believe. |

It is almost a year since we lost Prof. Peter Ekeh. Continue to rest in peace.

The event was held today at Agbarho, Delta State.

horsepower102:Zimbabwe? Tanzania? Kenya? Are you really comparing these countries to us? Do you know how many Zimbabweans flood SA daily? Presently, only South Africa and some few other countries fair better than us and we know why. Almost all African nations are facing similar challenges. What top class cities can you find in Tanzania and Kenyan? Can any even compete with what is obtainable in India? His excuses makes perfect sense. We are not making enough money to do anything. How much do we make from oil sales? And how much is being shared to unproductive states? Can you build a skyscraper with 1 million naira? |
backbencher thanks for you input. I just hope one day we have people like you at the corridor of power. Presently, South Africa and Democratic republic of congo accounts for over 50% of the world Platinum and Cobalt production, but these countries aren't getting the true value of what they source from their territory. Similar to how we exported crude oil for decades, Africa is structured as a source for raw material and the market for finished goods. Export raw materials - Import finished goods... zero value created (no jobs, leading to impoverished citizens). |
horsepower102:You just want to argue blindly. The young man gave you perfect reason as to why Nigeria isn't doing well, yet you kept beating around the bush, are you here to engage intellectually or you want to go the usual naija tribalistic way? How can a country like Nigeria develop when we are not being productive, what do you want to use to develop a clean and modernized city? Water ? A country that imports basically everything she consumes has no business talking about development. |
sageb:Yes, that is why I'm insisting we don't narrow or limit our ancestral linkage to just one ethnic group. It beats common sense and logic. In some Ijaw kingdoms, a king cannot be crowned if his mother isn't Urhobo. What does this tells you? It means the Ijaws have always shared great ancestral connection with the Urhobos. PS; We have several urhobo communities in Patani, but that should be a topic for another day. |
Truthvalue41:It looks like you are Ijawphobic and unfortunately I don't share your tribal isssh, I am just here to discuss culture and not to get myself soaked in any tribal supremacism . First, the Ijaws weren't pirates, they are indigenous to the Delta as any group occupying that territory today. Secondly, the Ijaws had mix with almost every ethic group in southern Nigeria which is event in their languages. Ooopss, You just said I guessed history, how ignorantly can you assume. That the Urhobos migrated from Bini (Aka) doesn't mean that never had ancestors from other places, no major ethnic group traces its origin to just a single place, it beats common sense and logic. Tribal ethnicity grows due to fusion of people from various places, Kiagbodo is an Ijaw town that shares ancestral linkage with Olomu (Ughelli), an urhobo town. Infact, till date, Kiagbodo still speak both the Urhobo and Ijaw language. The likes of Chief Edwin Clark (A Kiagbodo son) was once a member of UPU until recently. In Sagbama LGA of Bayelsa State, we have several of these inter-ancestral linkage between the Urhobos and Ijaws, and it is this connection that birthed some Urhobo communities such as Ofoni. Epie, another sub-ijaw groups were also of Urhobo/Edo origin that got fused with the aboriginal Ijaws. What other scientific prove do you need despite these glaring facts? @bolded, if you want to engage me in anything, you should do away of foul words. Happy Sunday. |
Christistruth00:Not all Urhobos were of Bini Origin, no ethnic group as big as Urhobo can claim they had a single ancestors. Some urhobo clans had a mixture of Ijaw ancestors, especially those around the Ughelli axis. I made a post about this yesterday. Several Ijaw clans also had Urhobo ancestors, like the Kiagbodo people. Even the Epie people in Bayelsa were of Urhobo/Edo origin. Migration of people back then was just so inevitable. So yes, the OP was partially correct. Cc: SlayerForever |
airsaylongcome:It was mainly used by the Agbarha people. |
airsaylongcome:You are right, OLOROGUN isn't his title, besides, OLOROGUN was recently accepted in urhobo land because of the influence of Ibru. |
Kirigidi:Contrary to popular belief, not all urhobos were of Bini origin. Example, some Ughelli communities have Ijaw ancestors, Some okpes could have a blend of the earlier ijebu migrants that settled in Omadino (but they generally claim their ancestors were from Ife which is very doubtable), the Oroguns could also have a blend of Igbo ancestors. Migration of old was just inevitable, You won't even believe Olukumi, an Igboid community in Delta state were of Ondo ancestry. Bini also got ancestors from Igbo and Yoruba. Kiagbodo and other western Ijaw territory were mostly a blend of Urhobo and Ijaw. I will be doing a detailed thread on the migration of several urhobo clans later. Omamurhiọke oniovo. |
OLOROGUN!!! |
Urhobo/Isoko make up the largest part of those whose origin were traced to Edoid. I understand related ethnic groups were linked together but we shouldn't forget to give credits to these Deltans who despite their small numbers have dominated several spots far beyond the shores of Africa. Cc: sholes0 and LegendHer0 please take note. |
Iliveforever:Instead of insulting the minorities, you should give them praises, because if not for their resources, you'd be eating stones by now, or how do you think you can get the forex to import everything you are importing Today? Don't ever in your life mock or feel superior to the Niger Deltans because they are the reason you still can afford some basic things. @bolded, Every region benefits from oil, self deceit is bad. Our problem is more of productiveness, we aren't productive and that is why we don't feel the impact of the "Oil wealth". |
oghenemario:There's error with the registration. Me and some other two persons kept getting the error "Sorry, but we couldn't connect to the MailPoet server. Please refresh the web page and try again." Please fix that. |
HornyTave:What exactly are you doing on this thread? Are you in anyway related to urhobo? What's your business with what they discuss in their meetings? Cc Mynd44 |
GeneralDae:We are not productive enough. Nigeria imports everything she consumes, how do you create value from such a shithole economy? And the fact that we have leaders who aren't serious in solving the core problem of this country breaks my heart. Nigeria, an oil giant imports fuel and gas, if these refineries were up and running locally, do you know how many jobs that will be added? Ghana and the rest of west African countries import fuel from India when there's a Nigeria. We are simply outsourcing our jobs to countries with functional system. No African country comes close to Poland, we have fundamental issues as black and we aren't ready in solving them. |
I shared my experience with Atheistandproud last month. Lol, I almost got buzzed. Don't charge while it rains! |
Myjumie:OgheneJite - My God is Sufficient |
Iamgrey5:I made use of "Iwere", which is also correct as we can see in titles such as "Oba ti Iwere". The Olu of Warri is also Olu of Iwere. Iwere was corrupted to Warri, a name that later grew beyond its traditional boundaries. |
During his meeting, the Obi presented an artifact to the new king.

His Imperial Majesty Obi Dr, Chukwuezugo Austin Ndigwe MON JP, Ezeuzu the III of Awka Ancient Kingdom with all his cabinet Chiefs has visited the New Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III today.

NPTJ:Ignore some of these posters, some came are just privileged, so they are barely in touch with reality. YOUR parents tried and I applaud them for that. As for your sister, can't you trace the man's family or where he resides in PH? I would suggest you forget her for the now and look for ways to improve on yourself. |
Workch:I didn't get to see the part where he said they later removed the child from the school and you should know I commented base on my initial understanding of his Post. I wasn't been toxic with my comment and you should know opinions differ. With that been said, I already apologized to him for the slight misunderstanding. PS: The stroked part wasn't necessary. Goodnight |
chinasaekpere:My apologies, I sincerely misunderstood your initial post, thought you kept paying the 150k fees. Best way to handle your dad is to be secretive and learn to say no. Anytime he calls, tell him how bad things are. You have tried as a son. |
.. |
chinasaekpere: I was paying my brothers school fees worth 150k per termChief, this was just to much, how can you pay 150k from your lean salary? Your problem started from here. You could have insisted they get a cheaper school for your sibling. Learn to stand your ground. |
Xman12345goat:Have you discussed with her ? What was her response? No one can force you into paying bills you don't want to, unless there's something you aren't telling us. |
