celebgistz:
The Chief Registrar of Lagos State has instructed the magistrate handling the case of RevolutionNow protesters not to approve their release.

According to SaharaReporters, the protesters were arraigned before Mrs. Komolafe of the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court. The police charged the protesters on a two-count charge bothering on unlawful gathering and breach of public peace.

The protesters pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in sum of N100,000 with two sureties each. But the magistrate has been instructed not to sign the bail conditions. The bail conditions of one of the defendants known as Kenechukwu has been met but the presiding magistrate has refrained from signing off his release.

The protesters would now be transferred to Kirikiri Prison for the time being. The police clamped down on peaceful protesters calling for good governance across the country on Monday, August 5th.

The march was triggered by the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and convener of RevolutionNow movement by operatives of the Department of State Services on Saturday, August 3rd.

. I warned them they did not listen.I wish all of them a nice time in kirikiri prison. If Sowore called for Revolution and you followed him you are a senseless Nigerian .On the other hand government should have been more logical by getting an injunction in court a day before the revolution protest to prevent it legally instead of teargassing them.Any revolution protest that will succeed in Nigeria must cut across all tribes not the one led by a person who polled 32 thousand votes in the last election.

The Nigerian Presidency has praised Nigerians for ‘Ignoring’ the #RevolutionNow protests Organized by Sahara Reporters Founder, Omoyele Sowore, who is currently being detained by the Department of State Security Services, DSS.

Below is a statement signed by Presidential media aide, Garba Shehu, sent to POLITICS NIGERIA;

“Today, millions of Nigerians went about their businesses: work, seeking employment, attending schools/colleges and caring for their families. By doing so, the millions defended our country’s hard-won democratic rights – by ignoring calls on social media to join a phantom ‘revolution’.”

“There were a few hundred persons today who, for their own reasons, decided to act upon the demands of a group calling itself Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, which went on social media to ask everyday Nigerians to overthrow the government they only elected some six months ago.

“The President is humbled by the support – not for himself, or the governing party – but for the democratic values of modern-day Nigeria through the wisdom of those millions of citizens who preferred democracy and decided not to undermine an elected government.

“Today, joining those millions of Nigerians was not only the President and governing party at Federal level, but many state governments from the opposition, trade unions, civil society organisations, media and NGOs with focus on freedom of speech. All have, rightly, united in protecting Nigeria’s young democracy and the rights of all to elect leaders and lawmakers.

“The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria’s attempt to incite citizens into a revolution against their own democratic rights and interests has failed – as will all attempts to take away from the people their hard-won rights and freedom to choose who leads their country.’’

A protest organised by a loser of an election is tantamount to treason and felony....Was there revolution during Obasajo and Good luck eras? Why now? It will fail and it has.Enough of this distraction by people who are still nursing injury they sustained by losing in the last election.

The #RevolutionNow Organizers have released the 'Rules of Engagement' for Tomorrow's massive protest all over Nigeria.Below is a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA by the group;

"The Coalition of Revolution (CORE) seizes this opportunity to call on mass of Nigerians who have shown tired of the suffering in the land and the oppressive system that keeps enriching the rich at the expense of the poor.""It is no gainsaying that the Country has been plunged into crises by bereft leadership who have turned the Country into a ‘business centre’."

"CORE is reiterating all the demands at this hour for proper clarification as usual.""The Police may have to explain to the world how the following listed demands would lead to a violent protest and treasonable felony like the Police PRO, DCP Frank Mba stated in the Force Press Release issued yesterday."

"We understand that this is the crude old trick of the State to create fear in the minds of oppressed to delay their day of freedom.""But it is more glaring this time around that Nigerians have taken their destinies in their hands and are saying Enough is Enough to hardship, insecurity, insurgency, incessant killings, epileptic power supply, disrespect of court orders, blatant abuse of power and office, embarrassing corruption."

DEMANDS
1. An economy that works for all and not a handful of individuals, banks and foreign multi-nationals.

2. An effective and democratic end to insecurity and insurgency.

3. An end to systemic corruption and for total system change in the interest of all.

4. The immediate implementation of the 30,000 naira minimum wage at all levels in the public service as agreed with the trade unions.

5. Education as an enforceable right and not a priviledge.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

1. We eschew all forms of violence. No protester should throw any object as little as stones or attack any security officials. We are aware of their intent to provoke the mass unduly by using undue tactics and sponsored agents, so as to give the protest a bad name.We encourage all Nigerians to remain calm as we are ready to fight these injustices to a logical conclusion.

2. If you would come with water, make sure you come with water ONLY in plastic bottles. We say NO to glass wares.

Nigerians on social media have attacked President Muhammadu Buhari over the report alleging that Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner, Department of State Services operatives invades and arrests him in his apartment earlier today.

Many Nigerians in their reaction accused Buhari of trying to use the DSS to intimidate Sowore so as not to carry out the planned #RevolutionNow protests slated for August 5.

Many well-meaning Nigerians are also calling for the release of the pro-democracy campaigner using #Freesowore hashtag on Twitter.

Security operatives suspected to be from the Department of State Security (DSS) have arrested a former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore, who is also the publisher of SaharaReporters, was arrested early Saturday.

The publisher posted a distress tweet around 1:25 am, saying “DSS invades Sowore’s.”

He also tweeted “Ja p” apparently indicating that his phone must have been seized while trying to raise the alarm about his arrest.

An associate confirmed the publisher was arrested at his apartment and his phone collected.

The battle for slots – and the speculations – in the 43-man cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari intensified yesterday, with ministers-designate trying to outwit one another.

The President is said to have raised a Kitchen Cabinet advisory committee on how to put a round peg in a round hole.

The advisory committee is said to have concentrated on the 29 new members who are joining the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Most of the 14 old ministers will return to their portfolios, according to sources close to the committee.

But there is a pall of uncertainty over Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, even as Monday is tentatively slated for the inauguration of the ministers.

Ministers-designate have been meeting some power brokers to intercede on their behalf for portfolios where they will be able to influence decisions, The Nation learnt.

Some ministers-designate are said to be lobbying for ministries where they can impact on the lives of Nigerians with much visibility.

Some of the ministers-designate have, however, been suspected of lobbying for some portfolios, which they believe can help to oil their political machines ahead of the 2023 general elections.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “Most of the ministers-designate have stayed put in Abuja to outplay each other in the lobbying for portfolios. Since they have no direct access to the President, they have been mounting pressure on some power brokers and members of the President’s Kitchen cabinet.

yns4real:
A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, on Thursday, ordered the final forfeiture of a plaza valued at N150 million belonging to a civil servant in Kwara State, Rasaq Momonu to the Federal Government.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Office had approached the Court to give an order of final forfeiture of Asmau Plaza situated in University Road, Tanke Area of Ilorin after a reasonable suspicion that the said property was acquired with proceeds of unlawful activity.

Delivering the Judgment in the case of Thursday, Justice Sikiru Oyinloye held that the EFCC had fulfilled all the requirements of the law in the suit and thereby ordered that the said property should be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“I have gone through the application brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, I also sighted the hearing notice issued to the respondent in the suit, Rasaq Momonu. This Honourable Court is persuaded that he had been served with the Court Processes.

The application brought by the EFCC is meritorious and granted. This Honourable Court hereby order the final forfeiture of the Landed property known as Asmau Plaza, Tanke Road, Ilorin, Kwara State to the Federal Government of Nigeria”

In the affidavit deposed to by Musa Gidado, an investigating officer with the EFCC, he urged the judge to order the final forfeiture of the Plaza which is suspected to be a proceed of unlawful activity.

“Investigations revealed that Rasaq Momonu used his influence as an Accountant with Kwara State Government to inflate and award contracts for the construction of two classrooms at Ogbondoroko and Obanisuwa Community In Kwara State.

“Investigations further revealed that the respondent who is a Civil Servant that earns less than N100,000 in a month cannot afford to build the house known as Asmau Plaza between 2010 -2012m.

“That I know as a fact that the respondent was confronted with the above findings by the applicant which he did not dispute and has agreed to forfeit the property known as Asmau Plaza to the Federal Government of Nigeria”, he said.

Moving the application for final forfeiture on Thursday, Counsel to the Applicant, Nnaemeka Omewa, urged the court to grant the order based on the provisions of Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

“My Lord, We have a motion on notice dated 19th July 2019 and filed on the same day, the motion is brought pursuant to section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other fraud-related Offences, I urged the Court to grant the motion.

Justice Oyinloye, however, granted the application and resolved all the issues raised in favour of the EFCC.

. I have been following Atikus case since inception.I am yet to see where it was established that INEC has a server. His witnesses did not say categorically that INEC has a server. They told the court that they did not know the server address nor copy any result from the server.INEC on the other hand established it that results were collated manually...The apex court will not make any rule on the matter until the judgement is passed and the issue is brought to the court for the final determination. The section 250 and 140 of the constitution and electoral laws forbid Appeal and Supreme court to preempt the judgement of the tribunal or determine issues before it .Either of the court must wait until appeal cases are brought before it.180 day ultimatum is sacrosanct. So in the case of Atiku since he has closed his case he should be expecting judgement .If he is dissatisfied he can push his case forward to the supreme course for final determination. Finally, all Atikus witnesses are time wasters and did not prove any case of existence of INEC server, non compliance, over voting multiple votes and non accreditation of voters....

The petitioners – Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – are challenging Buhari’s election at the last presidential election on among other grounds, qualification.

The petitioners are claiming the President did not have a school certificate for him to be qualified to run for election.

He confirmed the copy of the University of Cambridge school certificate tendered by Buhari on Tuesday was what he certified.

The witness, who said he has been with WAEC for 30 years, confirmed that by the result, Buhari sat for eight subjects and scored five credits.

He gave details as English C5, History C3, Geography C6, Hausa C5, Health Science C6.

The witness said a person with such certificate cannot be said not to have attended secondary school.

Politics › Re: How To Address Election Rigging In Nigeria – Atiku by ejimatic: 7:23am On Jul 30, 2019
zakim:
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the February 23, 2019 poll, Atiku Abubakar, has said Nigeria must address electoral lapses that cause rigging of election in the country, “especially those lapses that led to the alleged rigging of the 2019 general elections.” Atiku, a former Vice President in a statement on Monday by his Media Office, said one way of addressing the lapses was to implement the salient recommendations of the National Electoral Reform Committee (NERC) headed by former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais.

He said the second was the creation of Electoral Crimes Commission. The former Vice President said one of such recommendations, which would enhance the independence of the supposedly Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was the recommendation that the power to appoint the chairman and board of the INEC be taken away from the President and given to the Judiciary.

He said Nigeria today faces a lot of challenges, chief of which are security and economic challenges, adding that to effectively tackle these, a government must have an honest and indisputable mandate. “Obviously, the 2019 elections were several steps down from the 2015 elections in terms of credibility, and as a democrat, I am challenging that election in the right arena, the courts. “However, leadership does not just entail getting justice for the past. A real leader knows that in terms of justice, prevention is better than cure.

“I have been pondering on the question, how can Nigeria have credible elections? Our electoral system needs not just to be brought up to date, by the acceptance of the amendments to the Electoral Act passed by the eight National Assembly, we also need to be up to tomorrow, by taking steps today to ensure that the lapses that made it possible for the 2019 elections to be manipulated or rigged are addressed. “Of all three arms of government, the Judiciary is the least affected by elections, meaning that it has the highest objectivity in matters relating to the INEC. “It is therefore in the best position of the three arms to appoint a chairman and board members for the electoral body that are impartial, competent and patriotic.

“This recommendation may seem like a small change, but my experience in life has taught me never to underestimate the big difference small changes can make. “Where you have an administration whose mandate is considered tainted, such a government will lack sufficient moral authority to tackle the myriad of problems this great nation currently faces.

“I conclude by saying that I do not believe in blaming. Leadership must be solution-oriented, not blame-focused. This is why I proffer this patriotic advice. Nigeria must be great again and all hands must be on deck to achieve that,” Atiku said.

I looked back at the beginning of this year, precisely 14th January 2019 when I started working at a private primary school. Three weeks later, I was told that I had to be taking two primary five students extra lessons after closing (3pm), and the pay was 1k each. With my monthly salary which was 13,000 added to the "1k" each makes 15 thousand.

You would think I earned 13k for three months abi! No I didn't. The first salary I got was the half of 13k. The woman just called the staff on the 28th of January and gave me 6.5k. I had no idea what was going on and I thought she was going to balance up at the beginning of February just like she said while addressing us but it was a lie. it was at the end of the term, the third month April, that I got to know I am being ripped off. She said she was going to pay 5000 naira at the end of the term as salary because school opened for just 10 days. It was the greatest shock of my life. A graduate, a grown up man like me, taking 5000 naira home!!
I wanted to leave but I couldn't because I wouldn't be paid for the common entrance lesson and I had not gotten any other opportunities elsewhere.

Sometimes in early February, She called me that I would be handling primary 5 Common entrance lessons which is meant to hold every Saturday and at the end of the third term the money will be shared between Me, a staff that partners me and the proprietress. She said the money will be shared 60%(I and another man) to 40%(the proprietress). The formula was very unfair and strange to me. The sharing formula seemed very strange to me and I challenged it but she enforced it.

Fast forward to early this month, precisely 3rd of July, the proprietress started acting strange and insulting all the workers and all that. The following week she sent one of the oldest staff by to inquire what will be the staff reaction if they are not paid at the end if the term. The staff said they won't agree to such and some even threaten various actions. Fast forward to Thursday 25th of July, vacation day. the woman started up a plethora of complaints deliberately she said she was going to pay 4000 as July salary. The same thing she did at the end of second term. At the end she ended up not paying a dime. She didn't pay any of us. Not even the common entrance lesson which made me stay.

I cried and stayed inside throughout Friday. I had a deep thinking, with my academic background! Was it that I didn't know my worth? with all my struggles to be successful academically I am now slaving in one private school for a paltry sum of 15k, money wey I no fit cope with as an undergraduate! Money wey be say no reach my NYSC allawe!
I really feel for graduates going through phases like this. I really feel for graduates teaching at private schools. I pray better days finds you and I soon.
. Private school owners are wicked people who use peoples talents to build their career and create wealth for themselves. They pay January salary in February February in March and so on.They treat workers like slaves and yet most of them will say they are running school ministry. Liars and hypocrites. May God open better way for all those working in private schools. Please bear up

The Federal Government had, on Friday, obtained an ex parte order from a Federal High Court in Abuja, banning the activities of the sect.

Justice Nkeonye Maha, in making the order, designated the activities of the sect as “acts of terrorism and illegality.”

The court restrained “any person or group of persons” from participating in any form of activities involving or concerning the IMN “under any name or platform” in Nigeria.

But reacting, the spokesman of the Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Abdullahi Musa, said the Shiites sect in Nigeria is not a registered organisation.

“We practice religion; it is Islam we practice and nobody will ban us from praying under the law,” he said.

"Does it mean we cannot do all the activities of the sect? Nobody has any right to ban any religion in Nigeria except they want to create another problem in Nigeria.”

Politics › Re: Buhari Lacks Powers To Order Zakzaky’s Release – Presidency by ejimatic:
Antoeni:
The Presidency yesterday reiterated that President Muhammadu Buhari will not order the judiciary to release the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, because he lacks the powers to do so. This is just as it declined comment on whether the government was considering proscription of the sect as done to the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in 2017.

Members of the IMN (Shiites) have been staging protests across the country following the continued detention of El-Zakzaky who was arrested with his wife in December 2015 after a violent clash with the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Contacted on the latest decision on the group, presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the federal government’s position on the matter hasn’t changed. “There is no latest that I know of. Government’s position hasn’t changed. El-Zakzaky is in the custody of the Kaduna State government. They are trying him in court for several alleged offenses. The Federal Ministry of Justice is not in this, President Buhari has no hand it. “The constitution of Nigeria does not give the president power to stop investigations and trials, he can pardon upon conviction. On the El-Zakzaky issue, this whole thing is in the domain of Kaduna State. If only they know,” he said. Previously, the presidency had said the group was wrong to be in court and resort to violence at the same time in order to get justice for an accused.

. Did Kaduna state has rights yo detain him?Answer is Yes.....Nobody is above the law.Is Kaduna state right to keep him in detention after he has been granted bail?Answer is YES..He is granted bail on one accusation. There are many charges on him. Additionally section 140 of the constitution states that when the individual interest clashes with public interest that of the public interest supersedes the other interest. Elsakksaky is a threat to Kaduna state security by attacking the soldiers in convoy of The chief of army staff . This position of the constitution is sustained at the supreme court in the case of Asari Dokubo and Federal government. The supreme court held that public interest supersedes individual interest .The only thing that can make him out is and understanding between the sect and the state government. will the sect not betray the pact?I think the answer is YES.it will

I am watching the ministerial screening live and wondering what is the basis of asking female ministers meant to be screened to bow and leave without any questions. It gives an impression like the senators think Nigeria is a personal business. The Nigerian citizens want to know how competent our ministers are, which is one of the purposes of the screening. Only to see this. Is being a woman synonymous with competence? Its such a sorry sight watching the Senate president trying to justify their actions. It was initially all former senators who are asked to bow and leave without screening, and now all women. What a country.
. I did not see what was special in all that she said. She was just narrating a story without any connection to the screening and his prospective position as a minister....I dont expect anything from all of them

Troubling.
If a court grants a person bail the presidency has the right to keep him under watch when the national security is threatened. A lot of people dont know what Shite stands for.The presidency is aware of the threat it is posing against our national security. I respect people s religion in any form but religious militarism should be discouraged in Nigeria. No religion or group is greater than the government. If felt cheated or deprived of freedom there are higher courts in Nigeria that can look into it.

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Dr. Junaid Mohammed, a controversial Second Republic House of Representatives member, in this exclusive interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, speaks on the state of insecurity in the nation, calls by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) on Fulani herdsmen in the South to return to the North, and other issues of national interest. Excerpts:

It is almost five months that President Muhammadu Buhari was declared the winner of the 2019 presidential election. Having been inaugurated almost two months ago, he is yet to constitute his cabinet. Are you worried by that development?

I am worried not because I am a member of the APC. In fact, I have never been a member of the APC but I am worried because in a democracy, the outcome of an election has very serious consequences and after election, the incoming government is not only the responsibility of the party which won an election, it is the responsibility of every Nigerian because we all have a stake in the democratic outcome and we will also be affected negatively or positively by the outcome of the election and the kind of people who are now being invited or co-opted into the new democratic government. If the government takes too long to take shape, we are likely to have quite a number of unhealthy rumours; we are likely to have infighting within the party and within the National Assembly which has the responsibility of confirmation and recommendation of the people. So, I find it very difficult to understand the rationale behind the delay in the constitution of the cabinet. Even if there was a rationale and that was acceptable, I think Nigerians who are the real owners of the government, national assembly and the political institutions should be told why there is a delay. By so doing , nerves will be calmed and people will now believe that the government takes them seriously and that the government also believe that the concerns being raised about the formation of the cabinet are genuine.

Don’t you think the current state of insecurity in the country calls for concern from Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious or political divides?

Every true Nigerian must be worried because the primary responsibility of any government is the maintenance of law and order, to make sure lives are protected, people have a feeling in them that somehow, if push comes to shove, they can always raise their concerns to the people who are governing them and are elected in a democracy. But even in a non-democratic dispensation, government has to maintain law and order and institutions of government such as the judiciary must be seen to be working. So I am worried because clearly, we are into a very unhealthy situation whereby we have a country, but we don’t have a government and that is very dangerous. If there were to be a government, everybody will ask, ‘Where is the government? Who is in charge? Don’t mind what this current Chief of Army Staff, Buratai has been saying.

Why should we ignore the Chief of Army Staff?

Every time he wants to make noise about the state of insecurity in the country, he says Boko Haram has been completely decimated and destroyed. Anytime, he makes that noise, it seems he is coordinating his reckless statements with Boko Haram themselves. This week, he said those who are talking about Boko Haram are playing politics and that the issue of terrorism has been taken care of. Only yesterday, there was a skirmish in which a Colonel, Captain and some army officers in the rank and file numbering about 20 were killed. So, it is clear that Buratai is not a man to be relied upon. He is a political soldier who believes that he can make claims and get money from government. That is the tragedy we have. So, Nigerians have a right to be worried about the security situation in the country. When we talk about insecurity in the country, we are not talking about Borno and Yobe alone, what of the North-West? What of Katsina where President Buhari comes from? The level of outrage and banditry in Katsina is now worse than that of Yobe and Borno states and that is the home state of President Buhari. In fact, his in-law, who is also a District head in one of the districts in Daura was also kidnapped. So, this is a very serious matter and I appealed to Nigerians not to play politics with it. Right now, some irresponsible people like Jerry Gana said he and some others have already concluded that Nigeria is going to break up and they have already determined where they want to be when that happens. He claimed to be speaking on behalf of the Middle Belt and according to his own definition of Middle Belt, everybody who is a Christian and not a Muslim belongs to his Middle Belt and he speaks for all of them. So, you can see how irresponsible some Nigerian elites are and this is the kind of situation that will lead us more into disaster. Yes, the government must be alive to its responsibility and ensure that we have good, responsible people who will assist Buhari in running the country. As far as I am concerned, it is in the interest of the party and the government to rein in on some of the irresponsible statements being made by some elites in the country. If you listened to statements being made by a former Minister like Jerry Gana and former President like Olusegun Obasanjo, then you can see clearly that we are heading for disaster.

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been raising alarm over the debt profile of the nation. Do you think Atiku can get justice at ElectionTribunal?

I have been going through the proceedings at the Tribunal. Every time I see what happens at the Tribunal, I laugh. I laughed because when Buhari’s government was really in tatters towards the end of the first term, I issued a statement in which I said it can be argued that Buhari’s government has failed especially on vital issues like managing the economy, terrorism and banditry and of course the way the country went into recession under this government and how we managed to come out of it. Also, the growth of the national economy has been unsteady. As I am talking to you now, the growth of the national economy has not been able to catch up with the growth of the population. So, I said that even if Buhari has failed, Atiku is not the kind of person who will manage the country. I said while Nigerians should reject Buhari at the polls, Atiku is not the man with the right compassion, competence to make the country live harmoniously. I also said if Buhari is reelected, we are going to have serious problems and I still stand by that. On the Tribunal, this talk of computer server by INEC from which he drew his own figures has turned out to be a joke. And if you look at the caliber of lawyers he has, he brought in Prof. Ben Nwabueze who is 87 years old. Can such an old lawyer go through rigorous court processes, submissions and cross examinations and challenge INEC, Buhari’s lawyers in order to affirm that it was Atiku who won the election? Secondly, there is an attempt to waste a lot of time. Some people who did not even participate in the last election like Buba Galadima who for a long time has been in APC now wants to give evidence for PDP in court. How is that possible? They are also talking about 20,000 documents in addition to the ones they have submitted. So, you can see that the whole case is nothing but a joke and a stunt. I hope it is not this abracadabra which is happening in government that is delaying the formation of government. As far as I am concerned, Atiku and PDP are goners as far as the 2019 elections are concerned. Maybe he wants to contest in 2023 but I believe Atiku does not have what it takes to be the President of Nigeria. Look at people like Jerry Gana and Atiku’s former boss, Olusegun Obasanjo, who has never won an election in his own ward, local government or state. So, what value does Obasanjo add to Atiku that he went to beg him for forgiveness? If a man cannot win an election at his ward, local government and state level, how can he help you nationally?

There are talks that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is scheming to succeed President Buhari in 2023. Do you see him succeeding especially given your statement that the South should forget the Presidency in 2023?

Let us not waste our time. I have been reading in the media that there is some political games going on and that Tinubu is hoping to succeed Buhari in 2023. The question people are not asking is ‘what of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state?’ Fayemi has presidential ambition in 2023 and that is why he has been busy making reckless statements saying that for example, no outsider will take Ekiti land for Ruga settlement. How many land does Ekiti have? As I am talking to you today, 72 percent of the total land mass in Nigeria is in the North. So, if somebody who can only be president for the Yoruba race is talking about Ekiti not giving their land to outsiders, where is the land? 72 percent of land and good water resources for farming are in the North.

So why is everybody focusing on Tinubu?. I am not ashamed of him even though he is a very good friend of mine and I have no apology for that. In a democracy, it is not a crime for one to be ambitious. If Tinubu wants to be the president of Nigeria and he asks for my advice, I will say go ahead because I will rather have Tinubu as president than have some of the people in the South- East who are also ambitious and who want to blackmail Nigeria into ceding power to them. I know that no matter what happens, even if Tinubu were to be drunk, he will be a better President than Goodluck Jonathan. I also know that he is better than Fayemi. The mistake people are making in the Southern part of the country, they imagine that they can ignore a section of the country when it comes to the issue of the presidency. You cannot ignore any part of the country. Tinubu has more goodwill among Northerners than Fayemi who is a crook and has criminal records in the United Kingdom (UK). It is not a crime to be ambitious and I have no problem with anybody’s ambition, I have problem with anybody who because of his ambition wants to introduce confusion which can lead to mayhem and bloodshed. I don’t want that.

Some Nigerians Tinubu is the one controlling the Presidency with Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Reps. What is your take on that?

Those who are saying Tinubu is the one controlling Buhari are making a mistake because even though I don’t talk with Buhari, I can’t even remember the last time I met him until the last EFCC conference in Abuja, but I speak regularly with Tinubu. Those who think Buhari is Tinubu’s puppet are making a grave mistake. There are some people who are advising Buhari today and I don’t think Tinubu is one of them. All I know is that nobody can force Tinubu or any other candidate on Nigerians. I don’t believe that nobody forced Buhari on us,

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), led by Prof. Ango Abdullahi recently called on Fulani herdsmen in the South to return to the North. What is your perspective on that?

I don’t like taking issues with my friend in public because Prof. Ango Abdullahi is a good friend of mine but I have not spoken with him about his views for asking people from a section of the country to move. But from what I have seen, what is happening among some of our elites is nothing but shakara. If Nigeria breaks tomorrow morning, the way people like Jerry Gana is demanding, all of us will be diminished. All African countries will also be diminished. Those talking about Nigeria breaking up no matter what section of the country they belong to are just talking nonsense because there will be no opportunity to know who belongs where. The moment war starts, everybody runs for his dear life. Those who have cows and grains will leave them behind.

So what advice do you have for our leaders in the wake of these challenges?

We have to be very careful and mind our utterances. It is easy to start a war but it is not easy to stop it. We all saw what happened during the Biafran war even though a lot of people who went through that experience have not learnt anything like some of the leaders of Afenifere. They have been making provocative statements in recent times. People’s lives are determined partly by their culture. These people are noisemakers and if there is war today, they will run away because most of them have houses outside the country. They make big, big noise but some of the real fighters who will fight until death don’t even talk about it. We shouldn’t allow these lousy people to lead us to war. War is not good. I want Nigerians to be careful because if the chips are down, these people will not be available to fight. They are calling for war, let the war starts and we will see who will run first.

Eleme and Okirika war...Hausa and Youruba war. civil war Yoruba and Hausa war etc. Surprisingly. in all these wars kings emirs. igwes Obas and their chiefs with their children did not fight. Masses died in a large way .They know how to call for war but they will run away from it....Any man Afenifere Ohanese Arewa who calls for war should know that I WILL NOT TAKE PART IN IT unless all the leaders and kings take the lead...
