Outstrip: Was it his responsibilty to hold the prisoner or not? I am not sure why it was treatede as a criminal case. It was his responsibilty and he let one of the most dangerous people in Nigeria escape. He might not get jail time but he failed and as such punished. he did not even get demoted. This is sad. It sends a message that Nigeria is still not taking this Boko Haram situation seriously Brov, the kangaroo court didn't punish the Army Commander Over Boko Haram Suspects Escape. Read below. He was exonerating and another charge was raised. Reacting to the judgment, the lead defence counsel, Mr. Femi Falana, described it as contradictory in law for a court to discharge and acquit an accused and, at the same time, slam a sentence on him.
He said: “After exonerating the general in its verdict, the special court martial, which sat in Jos, turned round, in a rather bizzare manner, to frame a new charge of conduct prejudicial to service discipline contrary to section 103 (1) of the Armed Forces Act against him.
“Without asking the accused officer to plead to the new charge and defend himself, he was convicted and sentenced to a three-month loss of seniority. Thus the special court martial turned itself into the accuser, the prosecutor, the witness and the judge in a criminal case, contrary to all known canons of natural justice. |
Business › Re: NLNG Headquarter Relocates From Lagos To Port Harcourt by emmatok(m): 4:57pm On Oct 02, 2011 |
manny4life: I think a lot of people on here are getting it wrong; a company with an employee size of 400 definitely will NOT cripple Lagos obviously; however, the $100 million activity that the company engages will is what cripples Lagos. Take for instance they employed 400 people, assuming that each employee earn an average of $12,000 annually (convert that to Naira and do the math), that's a payroll of $4.8million the company is contributing in terms of employment wages to the state. That's a benefit (No.1), and if the company pays local payroll taxes say 5%, that's a $240,000 lost revenue.
Keep in mind that we haven't talked about company generating activities that private companies engage into, by the time you take all this into consideration, a move will cost the company (DIRECTLY) about $2million annually and an indirect cost is just too unmeasurable.
Therefore, losing one company WILL NOT hurt, but losing 10 companies will hurt the purse of the govt in the long run. This is simple supply and demand (services) in economics. Will the company transfer 400 people along with relocation expense to PH? That's some of the questions that need answered because sooner or later, one move spurs other companies moves. Again just my own opinion. LOL. Your are still with this your cripple Lagos ideology. The-same thing they said when the FCT was relocated to ABUJA yet LAGOS is still standing. And for your $100m activities your are wrong, NLNG don't pay Lagos SG that much. The FG controls 49% of NLNG, meaning most of the 400 workers are civil servants. So tell me do FG civil servants pay any TAX to SG? |

odumchi: Don't derail this thread. Let's not turn it into what it's not. Focus on the topic at hand. Sorry the thread derail long ago. Quote from: macjive01 on Today at 01:55:04 PM lagos greatest asset is not fashola or awololo or any other godamnit name but its position as a formal FCt of which was built into the nations commercial nerve by amongst all the SEAPORT.
The relocation of nlgn no doubt will have a little effect, but what will bring lagos to its kneel wud be a deep seaport in Portharcourt or Akwa-ibom, linked to an Aba and Onitsha inland container port, and then Nnewi and Aba EPZs, that in place LAGOS will seize to exist, southwest will time-travel back to 1967 into an agrarian society, low standard of living, possibly renewal of slave trading ( trading their children- this time knowingly).
Every other step in that territory will be littered with high powered concentrated juju, rituals will be the order of the day. no more igbos to abuse hence they will turn on themselves, firstly to Ijebus ( as the black sheeps), then to Abeokwuta - for overshadowing the rest. soon the awori man wud declare his true status and ethnicity.
just imagine Lagos losing west-minister and all those tank farms !, yes, 78% of the contents of those tanks travel outside Lagos and SW, would it not be more judicious to transport it by a barge from portharcourt or Akwa-Ibom deep seaport to Onitsha oil tank farm, then proceed to lokoja tank farm - which wud cater for Abuja consumption , then to niger tank farm - which wud in turn cater for the north west. Onitsha wud also cater for the middle belt and the rest of the north. Why are IGBOS always rejoicing at anything they perceive NEGATIVE news about Lagos. And how much tax is NLNG paying Lagos. For all i know most FG organisations don't pay TAX to SG and NLNG((NNPC owns 49%) might not be paying anything to Lagos SG. |

If most people on Nairaland is what Nigeria has to offer, it will never develop, it's not a curse, it's a fact, everybody seems to just think out of their behind +100% Now you know Nairaland is filled with tribalism. THIS IS A MAN THAT IS THE 'NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER' OF A NATION YET WE ARE LIVING UTMOST FEAR WITH NO SENSE OF security, I ALWAZ THOUGHT THAT HE WAS TOALLY UNDESERVING OF THIS APPOINTMENT, BUT THE PRESIDENT ONLY GAVE IT TO HIM AS A KINSMAN IN OTHER TO HAVE SOMEONE WATCH HIS BACK DUE TO THE SENSITIVE NATURE OF THIS POST AND DUE TO THE FACT THAT ALL THE PAST PPLE AT THE HELM OF AFFAIRS ALWAZ PUT PPLE THEY CUZ TRUST.
BUT FROM WHAT IS HAPPENING I TINK WE CAN AGREE THAT THE POST OF A NSA IS NOT FOR A 'KINSMAN, OR 'PADDYMAN' BUT FOR SOMEONE SEASONED IN THIS FIELD. A NSA IS SUPPOSED TO BE PROACTIVE IN ISSUE OF SECURITY AND THE LIKE, BUT IN THIS CASE WHAT DO WE HAVE WE HAVE A NSA THAT IS A POLITICIAN WE ALL HEARD -NOT JUST HEARD(BUT WERE FIRST HAND WITNESSES IN SOME STATES TO SOME OF HIS ATTROCITIES). YET WE HAVE A BOKO HARAM, MEND, BAKASSI BOYS THREANTENING THE CITIZENS AT WILL.
A VERY RETORICAL QUES TO ALL; SINCE THISMAN WAS APPOINTED HAS OUR NSA, HAS SECURITY SITUATION BECOME BETTER. YET HE PREFERS TO BE A POLITICIAN AND GIVE POLITICAL SPEECHES SO AS TO BETTER HIS POLULARITY. I KNW THAT MOST NSA USE FEAR AND LIES AS A TOOL TO MAKE THEIR PRINCIPALS KEEP THEM ON THE JOB. BUT THIS WILL COME TO AN END ONE DAY.
I DO NOT HOLD BRIEFS FOR ANY GOVERNOR BUT TRUTH BE TOLD THOSE THAT ARE TRYING ARE TRYING I DONT EXPECT MAGIC FROM THEM; I AM SEEING CHIBUIKE AMEACHI OF RIVERS STATE EMBARK ON MASSIVE INFRASTRUCTURAL PROJECTS, I HAVE SEEN GODSWILL AKPABIO OF AKWA IBOM DONE GREAT THINGS, I COULD HARDLY RECOGNISE YENAGOA BAYELSA STATE WEN I WENT THERE RECENTLY AFTER NOT BEING THERE FOR MORE THAN A YEAR THAT MEANS TIMIPRE SYLVA IS DOING SOMETHING, SULE LAMIDO OF JIGAWA HAS EMBARKED ON PROJECTS THAT HAS MADE AN IMPACT ON THE COMMON MAN IN HIS STATE. I KNOW THEY COULD ALL DO BETTER BUT I FOR ONE IM NOT EXPECTING magic FROM THEM
LET US ENCOURAGE THOSE OF THEM WE CAN ENCOURAGE AND CRITICIZE CONSTRUCTIVLY WHERE NECESSARY. FASHOLA IS TRYING HIS BEST YET IT WAS AN ACN GOVERNOR HE TOOK OVER FROM WHAT WAS THE DUDE HE TOOK OVER FROM DOING LETS ASK OURSELVES SOME HONEST QUESTIONS, IN AS MUCH AS FASOLA IS TRYIN IF THE GUY HE TOOK OVER FROM DID WHAT FASHOLA IS DOING TODAY THEN FASHOLA CAME IN TO CONTINUED CAN U IMAGINE WHERE WE WOULD HAVE BEEN TODAY MIND U LAGOS IS STILL THE COMMERCIAL CAPITAL OF NIGERIA, SO ITS OUR JOINT RESPONSIBILITY TO SEE TO IT THAT LAGOS WORKS. AS FOR EDO STATE I SURLY KNW HE COULD DO BETTER CUZ I STAY IN BENIN, AND ONCE IT RAINS UGBOWO AND THE OTHER PART OF BENIN BECOMES TWO WORLDS ALL TOGETHER, I COULD GO ON AND ON.
BUT BOTTOM LINE THIS MAn AZAZI IS NOT A HONESTMAN AND IS NOT DOING THE JOB HE WAS BROT IN TO DO. MR NSA KEEP TELLING LIES TO MR PRESIDENT CONCERNING THE SECURITY SITTUATION IN OUR COUNTRY BUT I ASSURE YOU ONE DAY HIS EYES WILL BE OPEN.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA AND HAPPY INDEPENDENCE. LOLZ, So because AZAZI said the truth he is not a honest men. Well for your information Lagos is safer than ABUJA.It is the only state in Nigeria with 10,000 solar powerd. Cctv Cameras (just a tip for you). |

Owu gal: Dear Emmatok, thank you so much for your perfect analysis ( if not complete) of the situation. You are right, he does come from the village or at least had a not so priviledged upbringing. and its true he eats a lot and when he first came to my house did not know how to do a thing. I mean he broke the brooms he was trying to use to sweep or kill a fly (I know he broke one broom while trying to use it to swat a fly).
I think he will mature to be responsible, but right now its painful to live with him and also very expensive. this holiday time around he broke no tv, but ate all the food and damaged the iron and a few minor appliances, which thankfuly i have spares of and decided to hide.
You cant imagine how scared I was when he told his brother to teach him how to drive? I immediately informed my husband not to think of using my car. and because of that myhusband never taught him. but to be honest, his brother takes less interest in him than I do. and never even thought of getting the boy a bank account or even ID card. I was the one pressing for it. I would have even got him all that if it wasnt that his family didnt coperate in releasing his birth certificate.
marriage is not easy. so for all the young women out there wishing to get married, I can tell you that its like wishing to learn how to charm a snake. it can be dangerous, tricky and it requires constant vigilance. half of the time I am so resentful of my husband and inlaws. and even my parents for suggesting I learn to tolerate it. I cant tell you the number of times I want to get out of it. Even now as I type I want to get out of it. but for "hope" that deceiver and yet good thing is making me believe that there is something good to be gotten out of this. Good, Since you now realize the young man came from the village with little or no exposure. I will recommend you let him spend more time outside home with his peers/friends. Example- After school let him attend evening classes, make sure read his books . On weekends enroll him in one resourceful group either in church, Sports or else were. Make sure he is always busy doing something, that way his mind will be occupied, and his youthful energy re-channeled. As for your In-laws, don't show any sign of frustration in their presence, make sure you stick to your stranded on how you want you home be. They will have to adjust or stop coming. |

The men in Jos went to get the cops and soldiers, but before they returned their wives and children were already murdered. I have seen where cops took to their heels instead of responding to distress calls. There was a case where two young ladies escaped from rapists and ran to the police station during campus riot, and guess what happened? The cops wanted to violate them overnight! They had to run away from the cops. See YEYE, so if police and soldiers can run from danger, why should you be there to fight for your GF in the first place. Owu gal: at outstrip thanks for the empathy. now that i think about it, maybe i should have physically removed the milk from his hands too. i wonder what he'd have said. but i think he got the message when he would see me buy milk and not put it where i used to put it, but in my wardrobe. i know he looks through my wardrobe and stuff, for what i dont know, but when he saw the milk he probably got the message. i would have fought him if he removed the milk cos then i could accuse him of going thru my stuff. i have not really spoken to my husband about his behavior except that i have corrected his brother in front of him, like the time i mentioned earlier that i corrected my BIL for spreading his clothes in front of the front door. one time i suggested he not use the brooms because of the so many he keeps breaking.
but i am afraid of saying anything more than that because one time i mentioned to my husband how his bro broke the tv and he said no it must have been an accident. but i knew he knew it wasnt a simple accident because later he left the broken dvd payers and electronics in the living room and put the ones that still work, with the exception of one tv ( which he left in the living room) in our bedroom. and cautioned his bro against using it.
@ chaircover, the pot of stew had twelve pieces of meat and he ate it all. i know it had twelve pieces because i became reduced to counting meat in the pot when i would make a pot full of meat fish etc and come back home and see it all gone. i began to think that perhaps i was delusional and didnt actually put meat in the pot so i started counting.
thank goodness though he has left a few days ago. now i have food and property peace. i was relieved to see him go.
i wish my life was different and that perhaps i married a white man and maybe family wont come over to disturb my peace. but all i can hope for is to become so wealthy that i wont care when family comes over and eats or destroys property. i also hope that i would be to busy to even bother with anyone. and perhaps live in an area to flashy that they wont want to come and disturb me.
but there are those great inlaws who come over and you dont want them to leave, like my hubbys cousin who cooks, cleans and is so well brought up, i wanted to invite her to live with us except that she is kinda expensive and has expensive tastes and i cant afford right now,( situations will change), some of the gucci she wants to be owning.
but as it is i am a sucker for the dark skin and so my life is as it is. I have a feeling that the young man probably came from a "not so exposed" background. And so he does things the way he was brought up. I once had an issue with a young cousin from the village, he does not know how to do anything but eats heavily. But today the young man is changed due exposure and education. So i will advise you to be careful with the way you handle the young man, because he will surely grow-up and become a responsible man. |

Outstrip: You are right. I remember when I first joined nairaland from some of the things I read it was clear to me that young Nigerian guys (I am assuming they were young) do not understand that NO is NO. I remember a specific topic where a guy was mad at a girl and he came on here to ask if he could just go ahead and violation her to teach her a lesson. Even the responses he got from people shocked me then. In another case another talked about how he and his friends had forced a girl. My friend also told me how it almost happened to her too when she was in UNIBEN. I happen to know some of those guys and honestly you would not think of them as rapists if you see them today but unfortunately they probably violated girls in their college days. Some of them think it is just for fun and at the end of the day it is a man forcing himself on a woman against her wish which in one way or the other is what these men see on a daily basis even right from their homes. True, a lot of Nigerian(including Police and Lawyers.) find it difficult identifying the difference between Consensual sex, violation, sex harassment or intimate molestation.I remember HP CEO Mark Hurd Resigns Over intimate Harassment Investigation. The contractor has retained Gloria Allred of the Los Angeles-based law firm Allred, Maroko & Goldberg as her attorney. Allred confirmed she is representing the woman, who she declined to identify, and also said in a statement that "we wish to make clear that there was no affair and no intimate intimate relationship between our client and Mr. Hurd," throwing the exact nature of Hurd's "close personal relationship" with the woman into doubt. Allred is one of the more famous intimate harassment lawyers in the business, taking high-profile cases and popping up in the media on a regular basis. She also declined to comment on any pending litigation against Hurd or HP.

“The girl is not a student of Abia State University. She was violated in an off-campus residential area of students. Which means they are close to knowing the victim. I have seen the video and it was edited to remove the faces of those men and i assures there are people here in Lagos that can reverse that editing. But let us assume the sex was consensual as you thought. Slyr0x: Really i dunno where the argument is coming from.
This is NO CASE!
1. What is preventing the young lady from coming out and telling us who violated her?
2. How come we know why she was violated and yet do not know the victim or the rapists?
3. If the girl is not willing to come out and tell us what happened assuming she is still alive then there is not much anybody can do?
It is still very immoral and cruel to gang violation any person tho, buh these are unanswered questions. What if the victim was coarse and threatened not to come out. So the case is dead. Na 9IGA we dey now. I thought in a CIVIL LAW CASE - The State can carry out investigation of a case (that generated media interest), when the victims are afraid to open up. For example: The Police can investigate a robbery or assassination case were the victim are dead or Unknown. |
