needanswer: every one deserves a chance is a fair statement. but I doubt everyone will actually get a chance. it will only be possible is tribal sentiment is totally removed (also religious). True what I am saying is that it's not a majority vs minority thing. Minority is crying that they've not had enough power time while one of the majorities is crying they've never really had any real power time. So you see, it's simply about fairness for all. |

needanswer: what of chief Nnamdi azikwe. he ruled for 3 years too. the Ibo of cause are the least of the major groups to rule but are the Ibo's truly interested in ruling Nigeria or their own state?
you have made a good argument for minority rule,i'll look more into it. while I do that though remember those rule where majorly during the military. in democracy where popular and numbers in tribe matters such rule for minority groups will be much harder Talking about that, Nnamdi Azikiwe ruled when the office of the president was not the most powerful position. There was a prime minister in control. @bolded, don't derail your own thread. It's been an interesting conversation so far. This isn't about Biafra but about who's held more power time. |

Kc3000: Tafawa Balewa - Gera Gowon - Angas Babangida-Gwari(Gbagyi)...some may argue he's Hausa. Abdulsami Abubabakar-same as Babangida Abacha-Kanuri Jonathan-Ogbia If we decide to separate Fulani from Hausa, then add Murtala Mohammed, Shagari, Buhari and Yar'Adua.
Lol minorities actually ruined Nigeria. Ojiofor: Gowon 9 years,IBB 8 years,Abacha 5 years,GEJ 5 years and Abdul SALAM Abubakar 1 total of so called minority rule=28 years. Tafawa Belewa 6 yearfs,Gen Ironsi 6 months,Murtala Mohamed 6 months,Obj 11 years,Shagari 4 years,Yaradua 3 years,Buhari 7 years so called majority rule=32 years. You can see that Nigeria was equally ruined by both minority and majority ethnic groups with exception Igbos that rule the country for 6 months only. needanswer, you see why I said your stance is faulty and the perspective is not worth it. Oya, come and answer them. |

needanswer: my submission is going forward will a minor ethnic group be looked at as a source for a candidate or will it always be from the majority. mind you if someone like Jonathan was from the north he won't have lost his re-election bid. he lost not because he failed at governance (which he did in some major areas) but majorly because he didn't have the tribal numbers to keep him in power another term Going forward, everyone deserves a chance, minor or major and I agree with you regarding Jonathan. However, politics is a game of numbers and as such, people who can pull multitudes are usually better off. Seeing that Nigerans vote based on tribe, it might seem as if the smaller ethnic groups have no chance. But history has proven that this isn't necessarily the case. There are other factors asides number. For example, while the so called major ethnic groups were fighting one another, Jonathan was busy taking advantage of that. This can always happen again. The minor ethnicities are somewhat affiliated to the major ones. And because the major ones are always fighting (especially those in the South), they'd rather support someone from the minor group than a candidate from another major group. This dynamics made it possible for a minor ethnic group produce president while one of the major ethnic groups have been striving for it for years. Like I said, everyone deserves a chance. |

needanswer: I see your point but I have mine too. a while ago while I was still in university politics I found out that people rarely voted for their convictions or for the best candidate. just who is more popular or from their department/faculty. it wasn't on merit but on sentiments. the hausa/fulani wants to vote in themselves, same as the Yoruba's and igbo's, it's tribe FIRST before CREDENTIALS. I didn't say you didn't have your point. Sorry if that's the impression I created. But I am faulting your stance. The premise that people vote for their tribes or more popular candidates is absolutely true but the it does not sufficiently support the conclusion that the major ethnic groups collectively misruled Nigeria. This is because, after all said and done, the fact remains that someone from a minor ethnic group has recently held the most powerful position in the country, a height that one of the so called major ethnic groups has not attained. So what exactly is the bases of your submission? I think it will be more beneficial to call out our leaders regardless of their ethnicities. |
Politics › Re: The Major Ethnic Groups In Nigeria Has Ruined It by etrange: 12:12am On Jun 24, 2020 |
needanswer: the minority group like that of Jonathan played a minor role. just 5 years which is not up to two terms like the others This blame game is actually not neccessary. A minor ethnic group like that of Jonathan has ruled in recent times for 5 years but you believe a major ethnic group like Igbo that hasn't smelled that position since Nnamdi Azikiwe is the one that misruled Nigeria? Or did you want to say Hausas and Yorubas but do not want to come off as tribalistic? I'm very detribalised and I agree Nigerian leaders have messed up that country; I just don't think the angle you're coming from offers any useful perspective. |

Immediately I stepped out, I was trying to wear my slippers when I heard my very own father uttered these statements " while at work today, I thought about the life of my kids and realized O is the only one among my children who will not be successful in the future.
Mind you, I am the "O" he was referring to. Mehn, I cried my eyes out that night. How can he say such a thing about a 12 years old kid? Truth be told, I became scared of my future ever since. Sometimes it serves as my motivation to keep working hard so he can be shocked but when I look at how much I know yet I'm still in this position, I can't help but cringe into thinking about his utterance that year. I ain't no motivational speaker but what I know for sure is that his utterances were more opinionated than factual. A few events might have pushed him to that rather ridiculous conclusion but in the end, your destiny is whatever you make out of it. |

Lol... Nawa o.
Saying science has failed is extremely ridiculous cause you just making as if it is a Science vs God thing. Y'all in Africa just be scoring religious points with the pandemic. If this same science comes up with a vaccine tomorrow, y"all will start scavenging for it. What is science in this case? The fact that actions are taken based data from from past pandemics is science, the fact that masks were identified and prescribed as a means of reducing the spread is science, the fact that some people survived by receiving medical care is science, the sanitizer we use is science, the machine used to spread this disinfectant is science, people were able to keep working from home cause of science, etc. Science as a body of knowledge is not limited to vaccine production. So which science failed? Besides, science never claimed to be omnipotent, it only strives to push its limits everyday. And even with respect to vaccine production, science is still working in its normal pace. There's nothing special about this pandemic. Like those before it, it's causing havoc now but will either naturally lose its potency or a vaccine will be created to destroy it. That has been the trend. Science does not need to have failed before God can be praised, I believe he works with scientists too.
Why is Africa even sitting like a spectator waiting to accept the vaccine if it's found or score religious points if "science" can't resolve it? If we can't manufacture, we should stop demoralising those manufacturing with our words. |

I know it's bound to change. But so long as the quality is still there, then it's OK. Take football for example. We've seen a lot of legendary players in times past. But there are still a lot of quality players still in the game, who can be compared (or even surpass) to past legends, which is OK.
BUT there are now very few quality entertainers in WWE, which is why I said that a lot is effing gone. Ok sir |

Gbest90: A lot is gone.
The script writing is no longer top notch. And apart from Roman reigns and Lesnar, there are not many other world class entertainers.
I seriously missed the days of Triple H, Shawn Michael's, Great Khali, young John Cena, Cane, Mystereo etc. These guys made wrestling look so real.
The entertainers they have these days do not make it look real anymore.
So ... "a lot is effing gone" Lol... this is what we all say once we pass a level or once the people and style we're used to are replaced. Old Nairalanders would say NL is gone cause it's not what it's used to be, older guys would say Nollywood is gone. Some would say their school is gone. We hear this all the time. But at the end, it's just the style that changed. Script writers and wrestlers are changed, the newer ones are obliged to cater for the desires of the newer generation and if they aren't complaining, then I'm right to say wresting is gone, your era just passed. This is how life works. |

Gerrard59: Blacklisting people who have misogynistic thoughts from any social media medium doesn't eradicate or reduce those beliefs. Rather, it's engaging them via those channels that make them change. You blacklist them and they continue with those beliefs in real life, implying nothing has been changed. You want Nairaland to be like Twitter which has no effect on average Nigerians and cannot effect a change. Lol... I don't really think NL is any more impactful than Twitter. They don't do the same thing but both perform thier tasks equally well. NL is just an online forum while Twitter is a social networking site, none does the work of the other. Anyway, that's a deviation. It hasn't always been like this. 10 years ago, we had other issues on NL but sexism wasn't part of them. Misogyny is eating deep on here today because a few started it and others found it fun and joined. Even those who wouldn't flow that way in person come on here to say extremely terrible things against the female gender and no one sees anything wrong with that. I know some are just typing those things to belong but many youngsters out there read Nairaland and these things are impacting thier perception and attitudes towards women. We can engage them for as long as we want but a little effort from the administration of the platform will, at least, let them know it has become a social menace and not just a matter of clashing opinions like our arguments are naturally perceived. |

Softapplez: I am never going to watch wrestling again like i used to. What is even there in wrestling to catch your interest?
Everything that makes WWE the fame and popularity they got over the years, is now gone.
The undertaker remains my most loved celebrity ever in the history of my life, after Micheal Jackson and Lionel Messi.
He is the epitome and the standard for world wrestling Entertainment.
Losing his WrestleMania streak to Brock Lesnar is something that i still have never been able to swallow.
They purposely made him lost that match because they knew he had undergone surgery lately before then on his hips and he was not even 50% fit.
But they used his love for the game and their greed to break the streak.
They should have protected the streak as an honour to him for a service well rendered.
The undertaker wowed the world with his talent, puts fear even in the minds of viewers.
He bought a whole level of spirituality to wrestling, nobody does it better than him.
The undertaker is one of the most respected man in the world. And the most influential man In sports entertainment.
This is why i doubt the credibility of Forbes magazine.
The undertaker will not go to any Country in world and he won't be given a huge Media presence. Presidents and governors, royalties all wants a feel of that man that has wowed us with his Talent while growing up.
This is why i don't envy this new generation kids at all.
They are now left with mediocre entertainers.
I have followed the undertaker all my life like my life depends on it.
I even knew his wife Michele McColl and she and her former girl was my favourite female wrestlers. Very funny set of ladies and when i discovered she got married to the undertaker, i was so happy.
From softapple to the undertaker.
I am saying thank you for the inspiration and motivations. For all the lessons you taught us through your career.
So softapple in conjunction with saintsammurai, we are all saying.
Adios my king.
by the order of the Peaky blinders. Nice writeup but nothing is "gone" in wrestling. Your era just passed. |
