Ontario benefits for new immigrants who do not qualify for CERB or EI

Guys,
My status is Permanent Residence through EE.
I am one of those who came a few months ago and could not find any revenue source so far, so I was not qualified for federal govt benefits naturally. I had been utilizing my funds from India which was depleting.

So, I visited Ontario govt's platform yday: https://www.ontario.ca/page/covid-19-support-people#section-0

I filled up simple form with the necessary details and they notified me that I will receive a call back within 4 days. I got the call in less than 18 hours.

The nice lady over the call discussed about my situation, and considered me as eligible for ontarioworks benefits - 733 CAD a month. The funds will be disbursed within 24 hours.

I am sharing the eligibility criteria best to my knowledge:
Funds in India/Canada - less than 10k CAD
Employment status - Unemployed
Federal benefits eligibility - No
Residing in - Ontario
Maximum Allowance they are offering (733 CAD)
Rent - somewhere around 350 CAD
Food - somewhere around 350 CAD

The only catch is that you will get the benefits from the day you are applying. So, I am getting funds for today(pro-rated) + May.
Funds will be available to my account by monday-tuesday. I will need to submit documents once their offices are fully operational. (That will include my bank statement, my current status, lease agreement(eventhough it is on someone else's name).
If my status changes in future, I will need to inform them over a call.
So all of you guys who are stuck somewhere, go and apply!

I am glad you don't plan to kill the poor animal you caught on the wild. I share your love for animals. They are just amazing and each is very important in our ecosystem. And that's why we need to preserve them and not imprison them in the name of pets.

It's extremely unfair to keep an animal you don't understand. You might have good intentions but you'll end up hurting the poor thing both emotionally and physically. For example, you kept it in a bright coloured bucket meanwhile, the animal prefers an environment that blends with it's dark colour. You'll restrict its movement and keep it lonely (it's a wild animal so you, a human, don't count as a companion). It is constantly in shock/fear. These will only stress the poor thing. Most wild animals basically just have eating and mating as their sole endeavour; even if you provide this one with food, are you going to mate with it? By keeping this animal, you are obliterating the possibility of it mating and procreating with others thus impacting negatively on its already dwindling population.

Keeping wild animals in captivity for our own amusement (though we tactfully use the expression 'as pet') is, by all indications, very selfish and inconsiderate.

I, therefore, beseech you to kindly reconsider and take the poor thing back to it's natural habitat. Going by the little I can perceive of your personality, I am very confident you'll hearken to my plea and so would like to thank you in advance.

Not really. That's where tense makes the difference. If they meant that you need to have been a resident when you were earning the $5000, that would mean their grammar is wrong. But they say you need to reside in Canada (present tense) and not that you need to have been residing in Canada. This only means you need to be in Canada as at the time you're applying for the CERB. Do you catch my drift?

You can call them to verify this.

Thank you for that input, I will have to confirm that. I have seen someone who did not meet these guidelines but have received once. He didn't apply the second time because he was told when he went to file for his tax that he will requested to payback when the time comes. Let it not be that will be the case of those that fall within that your category. For now they ain't really verifying because it will slow down payment but before the next tax filing, they would have completed the verification and those who didn't meet the guidelines will be required to pay back. Well, they could be many other reasons why your friend was asked to pay back. I'm sure it's not cause his $5000 was earned outside Canada cause that bit is clear on thier site. People who have not met the criteria are receiving and would pay back later, I know. But receiving cash was never the basis of my submission. Like I said, it's on their site.

Please, number 3 is wrong. The $5000 could be earned outside Canada. If you arrived recently and have worked before the pandemic, you could still apply provided you earned up to 5k last year regardless of where.

Hhmm... To be a woman there in Africa must be a difficult life. Women endure a lot mainly cause the society will always support the men folk and shame them if they quite. Your comment is a clear example of that... if she complains publicly on the first disagreement, you will call her names for not being able 'manage' her home. He's providing a free-to-use platform and in return, he's got people to advertise here. Those who advertise here are the true clients (the direct source of revenue). He can decide to cut the cost of advertising this period in order to show support. That will be more realistic cause the advertisers are likely to be suffering from low revenue themselves and might not continue if not supported. And even as much as this is a logical justification, it's still up to him. But asking him to just start giving people money is far reaching. There's no logic behind that. People spend their data to be here and the revenue goes directly to telecoms (it constitutes a direct source of revenue to the telecoms) so you should direct your plea to them to either cut the cost of data or do give-away. Otherwise, you might as well "ask" the owners of every site you've visited to give you money.
