This is not even a case of exception. The rule says "an" is used before words that start with vowel sounds while "a" is used before words that start with consonant sounds. Note that it is the first sound of the word that matters not the first letter. The word "SMS" clearly starts with a vowel sound /e/ and that's makes it clear why "an" is used.

Actually, this is not true. Pictures of scanty or deserted roads can be taken in virtually all countries now including Nigeria.

First, just like in every other part of UAE, the Dubai police has been going around urging people to go stay home.

Second, residents were threatened with jail terms or a fine between AED200,000 to AED1,000,000 if they break the stay-at-home order. A European living in the city was recently arrested for encouraging others to ignore the order.

Controlling people is not that easy anywhere.

YouTube has been taking down misleading videos for ages especially those that baselessly tarnish other people's images; otherwise, they could be sued for propagating false information about another entity.
