Christianity EtcRe: On Atheism, The Higgs Boson And God by EvilBrain1(m): 8:16pm On Jun 19, 2011
lagerwhenindoubt:
Hello InesQor. I think you have tripped over a common misconception in thought I'd like to term classification by definition smiley. It goes like so; when you define anything in terms of taxonomy, (identifiable traits or characteristics) any something that exhibits such traits or demonstrates such characteristics will cause you to automatically classify that something by definition. Two somethings with immediately identifiable similarities are not necessarily the same.  We inevitably come to perform evidential corroboration of facts (or lack thereof) to "know" why they are different.

I never heard of Higgs Boson AKA "God-Particle" (until i saw your post and did some reading) but allow me to classify it as a Black-Hole. How do we know Black-holes exist. no one besides Capt. Jean-Luc Pickard and crew-members of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) availed me the opportunity to see what a Black-hole looks like  grin You only know it exists due to its comparative effects on its surrounding environment. I am not sure why you posed this question to Atheists in particular but Higgs is like looking for suspicious movement of the tall grass to know if a tiger is hiding in it - thus far the grass ain't moving.  grin  the very nature of inferential science does not mean it does not exist, it does not mean it does either.

Atheists simply ask for proof that it does and a Black-hole inference will suffice. unfortunately God does not yield to examination as the Scientists have found out  grin
Atheist will only surmise that Religion(ists) have founded their views (beliefs) on pre-suppositions that are products of words, assumptions, mental speculation and composition
@lagerwhenindoubt
You may not have much knowledge of physics, but you possess the mind of a true scientist. You would be pleased to know that I have added your name to my "Nairalanders who are not r.etarded" list.

Congratulations

Christianity EtcRe: On Atheism, The Higgs Boson And God by EvilBrain1(m): 7:50pm On Jun 19, 2011
Typical strawman argument. First you twist the scientific theory then argue against the twisted version.

FYI, not finding the Higgs within the predicted energy range would give us just as much information as if we did find it. Perhaps even more. Science is all about trying to explain the natural world, making predictions based on those explanations and testing those predictions through experimentation. A failure of a theory is not considered to be a bad thing because it forces you to think in new ways and pushes you closer to the truth. It was the dramatic failure of Newtonian physics a century ago that gave us quantum theory and relativity. Otherwise, we might not have microchips and GPS today. That's how scientific progress is made.

The beautiful thing about science is that it's honest. Scientists (well good ones, anyway) never claim to know everything. Even the most well established principles (e.g. evolution) are still called theories and scientist are constantly looking for ways to test or disprove the established thinking. That's the main difference between science and superstition religion. Religious people refuse to adapt their beliefs to new information. They deny or ignore facts that contradict their faith and cannot use simple logic to explain anything. If you are so sure that god exists, why don't you find some real proof instead of the logical fallacies that apologetics bandy about?

In any case, we have just started scanning the energy ranges where the Higgs is likely to be found. the machine that has the best chance of finding it (CERN's Large Hadron Collider) only recently got up to speed. There's still every chance that they'll still find it. I, for one, hope that they don't. I hope they find something completely unexpected. I want to see some new physics.

@Evil brain; « #2 on: Today at 01:42:10 AM »while i ignore everything else i can't but not ignore the bold and put up the following scenario to illustrate why; which one of the two is a violent man: a son was was returning from the office and found a man with a gun against his mother's head, <Blah blah blah blah> he drew his magnum and created a hole in the chest of the coward who would have killed him and his mother and maybe others. which of the two is the violent man? if you say it is the son, then you are correct to tag Islam as a violent religion. if you say the home invader, note that you have pointed you identity of violence away from Islam.
I don't  understand what your story has to do with what is being discussed. Did someone try to shoot all the world's muslims when I was asleep? Or their mothers? It sounds to me that you are admitting that Islam is violent and giving excuses for it.

incdentally, the sunni and shiites use the same Quran. if you know any Quran that s specific to a group and not general to the muslims, show us the Quran and give us the name of the group that uses it. i bold the first to see if you can tell us what the muslims fought others for so that after all the fights they ended up as you say sunni and shiites?
I never said sunnis and shiites used different korans. I said there were originally different versions of the koran as well as different groups pushing different interpretations of it. The sunnis and shias would fall under "groups pushing different interpretations". I think you need to go and steudy the history of your religion a bit more.

Muhammad [as] says whoever brings anything new to this our affair [Islam] is not from me. <blah blah> it is the non muslims who infiltrated Islam using the ignorance of the ignorant arab leadership to destroy the union <blah blah blah blah> disbeliever from england named larry nicknamed lawrence of arabia. well. the divide to rule <blah blah> state of Israel, inspired up zionist so that they got their wish.
Again, it looks like you are trying to justify the violence in Islam, therefore admitting my original point.

the tumbling down of tower 7 to me needs real investigation. i say greed of larry silverstein and others need the violence which they have put up as their trophy in effort to conquer the world under the 'big idea' [oe world order].
Wait, wait, are you suggesting that the World Trade Centre wasn't blown up by muslim terrorists? Despite Osama Bin Ladin admitting it on tape? Are you serious? OMG, I can't believe I'm here arguing with a crazy person. I need to find something better to do.

alaper:
ALL religions are associated with violence.  All through the ages, any religion that did not practise violence sometime in its history, usually dies out.  All religions have used violence to "win" and keep converts
True. This may be Islam's time in the sun but the fact is that all religions have to embrace violence in order to grow beyond a certain size. Or to keep from fragmenting into several smaller religions.

It took centuries of blood-letting to establish the current version of christian dogma (the trinity, the divinity of Jesus, the immaculate conception, etc). The catholic church had to chase down and murder thousands of "heretics" over hundreds of years, sometimes wiping out entire cities to do so. Otherwise, there would be hundreds of different types of christianity instead of the few dozen we have today.

The same applies to Islam. The muslims don't like to admit it, but there were several different versions of the koran and hadiths in the early years after the prophet's death. There were different factions each pushing completely different interpretations of the religion. Islam is as it is today because one group manage to kill off and subjugate all the others. Their victory wasn't complete by the way, which is why you have sunnis and shiites today.

Islam is now so large that it naturally changes as it spreads farther away from its source in the same way that languages and cultures change. Of course, it can't change too much because someone might decide that the new version is blasphemous and start cutting heads. Just try publicly reinterpreting the koran in a new way in a country like Saudi Arabia and see what happens to you. In Iran, simply admitting to being a member of the Bahai religion (an offshoot of Islam) will earn you an instant death sentence.

Religion needs violence to thrive. Its just a fact of life.

He wants you to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Christians claim to be able to heal supernaturally, so let them heal supernaturally. Let the holy ghost discover the tumours and tell us whether they are adenocarcinomas or leiomyosarcomas. Let the lord remove the cancers without radiation, surgery or poisonous drugs. Let the healings be obvious and verifiable, not the fake nonsense the clowns on TV try to fool us with.

It just seems odd that a "powerful man of god" has to rely on cold, godless technology just like atheists, pagans and muslims.

Christianity EtcRe: Ravi Zacharias by EvilBrain1(m): 12:35am On Jun 19, 2011
The debate is not between science and god but between logic and superstition. People believe in this all powerful being when there is absolutely no evidence that he exists. You don't have to prove that god doesn't exist any more than you need to prove that the Father Christmas doesn't exist: If there's no evidence, then he doesn't exist. If you can explain the natural world without invoking him, then he doesn't exist.

That's what Stephen Hawking understands and the people in your videos don't. You cannot just invent some mystical being and expect the scientific world to accept his existence when there is no real proof. In that way, god is no different than UFOs or the Loch Ness monster. Just because people claim to have seen something doesn't mean it's real.

The god of the bible wasn't the invisible, undetectable absentee that he is today. If the bible (or any other holy book) is true, then it would be trivially easy to prove his existence. The god in the bible routinely spoke to world leaders. He destroyed whole cities with fire. He killed off thousands of children if the country's leader didn't do what he wanted. He performed miracles and raised the dead. His followers could predict the future. They could speak foreign languages without having to learn them. They healed the sick, they made the sun stop in the sky.

Today, all this magical stuff seems to have disappeared. All that is left is a bunch of clowns deceiving people on television and what we see in the movies. Why? You people can probably come up with some long-winded explanation but I (and Professors Einstein and Hawkin) prefer to go with the simplest one: there is no god. The stories in the bible are just stories.

Show me some proof and I'll be happy to change  my mind.

quite worrying. As far back as 2003, i had a ''doctor'' picked up and he eventually ended up in court. The police were fully involved then the effected the arrest.I don't think its the MDCN that should be arresting erring people, there should be an arm of the police effecting the arrest and upholding the law. I see no way they can be effective without the police. God help Nigeria.
The MDCN wasn't supposed to arrest him. They were supposed to accompany the police, ensure the arrest and oversee the prosecution. Its part of their duties according to the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act. I'm actually reading through the law right now and it turns out that the penalty for practising as a quack is 5 years imprisonment or a fine of N10,000.

Amazing!

Competent to deal with complaints yes, but mounting surveillance, no. I'm sure anyome who can read in english will easily tell the difference between the two.
If you do have any evidence of them not acting on the complaints made about this ''doctor'', please feel free to state.
This article may even let you realise one of the reasons many paramedical staff antagonise doctors, he would have loved to be one but couldn't cut it.
It will still make sense if the MDCN will have a database where the public can check the registration of their doctors, shouldn't be that hard.
I'm not sure Nigeria has produced up to a hundred thousand medical doctors since inception of the profession in the country.
You didn't read my post. It's right above yours. In my case, the MDCN went as far as telling my boss not to call the police and to allow the guy to keep practising until they came to pick him up. Their reason was that they didn't want the guy to get tipped off and disappear because he would only end up doing the same thing somewhere else.

They didn't want the police involved because they would just hold him for a few days and release him after he pays a small bribe. (I actually spoke to a lawyer who said the same thing.) Apparently the Nigerian police don't charge people to court anymore. They just arrest, collect "bail" and release.

Like I said, the guy is still practising, despite the MDCN being aware of him for several months. They kept saying "we're coming, we're coming" until my boss got frustrated and found an excuse to sack the guy without telling him why. I had to work beside the guy while knowing for certain that he was a quack for almost 2 weeks. I had to keep double-checking his work and was always afraid to go home for fear that he'd kill somebody when I wasn't around. If the patients had found out, it would have destroyed my reputation and that of the hospital.

The whole episode just convinced me that Nigeria as a nation has completely run down. I really have to leave this country!

HealthRe: The Prevalence Rate Of New Hiv/aids Infections In Nigeria Drops By 35! by EvilBrain1(m): 6:11pm On Jun 18, 2011
Misleading title. The prevalence rate is the percentage of the population that is HIV positive. That number is unlikely to fall by much unless we start shooting or deporting HIV positive people. Or if the population growth rate is higher than the rate of new infections.

Far more important is the HIV incidence rate i.e. the rate of new infections. The NACA statistics show only a marginal fall in prevalence. I'm don't really believe their figures since there nothing on the ground to explain such a fall. The is still widespread ignorance about HIV especially in the rural areas an the virus is still spreading at an alarming rate. The problem is ignorance, the stigma and the low rate of condom use among young people.

All this is just window dressing by politicians and civil servants who are more interested in marketing their achievements than actually achieving anything. There is really nothing to congratulate ourselves about.

There is still a lot of work to be done before we can start celebrating about HIV. We are still fighting a losing battle.
PoliticsRe: Fake Doctor Arrested In Niger After Operating For 3 Years by EvilBrain1(m): 4:36pm On Jun 18, 2011
This kind of nonsense happens all the time. Not long ago there was a fake doctor at the hospital I worked at. The guy had some basic medical knowledge but made some very odd mistakes and was shockingly ignorant about things a year 2 medical student would know.

I did my own investigations and found out that the guy was a quack. My oga also got suspicious and took the guy's documents to the medical and dental council who confirmed that they were fake. The MDCN was supposed to come and arrest and prosecute him but several months later they are yet to do anything.

As far as I know, he's still practising somewhere. You know Nigeria is a useless country when you hand a quack doctor over to the authorities on a platter of gold and they can't be bothered to arrest him. God knows how many people the guy would have killed by now.

PoliticsRe: Lagos Flood. Fashola &tinubu Failed In Fixing Drainage Prbls In Lagos In 12years by EvilBrain1(m): 7:31pm On Jun 17, 2011
The drainage problem is nowhere as bad as it used to be. The rain this morning was crazy and all the roads around my house were flooded. But by this afternoon, everything had cleared. In the old days, the flood would last for days. There used to be parts of Lagos (e.g. Mushin) that were flooded even in the dry season. You can't condemn Tinubu and Fashola because of a little flooding after a typical Lagos monsoon.

Also, the blame for the flooding goes to all the r.etards that throw dirt, rubbish and pure water bags into the gutters every day. It amazes me when I see people throwing crap on the road and in the drainages, and then complaining when there is flood. Adeniran Ogunsanya street in Surulere was rebuilt less than 6 nmonths ago and the new gutters are already blocked in several places. The nearby Akerele street is not even half completed and yet the gutters are half-full of pure water bags. The government can do little to fight the army of m.orons who are fighting progress tooth and nail.

The thing is the bible prohibits all sorts of things from lying and stealing to shaving the sides of your head or wearing 65% cotton, 35% polyester clothes. If you look through the old testament, there are all sorts of funny rules banning all sorts of things.

Christians deal with this by simply ignoring the laws they don't like. some people say that there is a new convenant and all the old testament rules no longer apply. Of course they conveniently forget this when discussing homosexuality or apostle Paul telling women to shut the Bleep up when in church.

My advice to you is to do like the born-agains do. Just ignore the parts of the bible you dont like. If you're straight, then condemn the homosexuals. If you have an afro, preach against those that barb Mike Tyson. If you're a homosexual, attack women who dont cover their hair in church. Christianity became a worldwide religion because it can be all things to all people.

PoliticsRe: How America Pushed Jonathan To Order Bankole's Arrest - US Diplomatic Cable by EvilBrain1(m): 12:07am On Jun 13, 2011
This is fake.
1.  First of all the language of the cable is very different form that of the legit wikileaks cables. The writer even used slang terms and colloquialisms in some of the sub-headings. Anybody who has actually read a US diplomatic cable would instantly see that this is fake.

2.  There's the question of where this cable came from. It wasn't from wikileaks since their cache of diplomatic cables is more than a year old. There have been no new leaks reported and a search of their site doesn't show any such cable. Also, the events covered in the cable occurred just days ago. It is highly unlikely that a Nigerian newspaper would get the scoop so early.

3. There is no mention of this cable anywhere else on the internet. If someone has leaked even more american diplomatic documents, that would e a far bigger story than Bankole's arrest. The only mentions of this story on the internet (according to google) are nairaland and two local newspapers: peoplesdailyonline and nigerianewsday. It is very unlikely that either newspaper have a source willing or able to smuggle top secret documents out of a US embassy.

After about 5 minutes of digging around, I found proof that this is fake. The evidence is in the heading (containing addresses, dates and codes) which is also the only part of the text that initially appears legit. By running parts of it through google, you can see that the forger copypasta'd the heading from this saharareporters article: http://www.saharareporters.com/article/leaked-cable-evening-ambassador-ade-adefuye
He simply changed the dates, adjusted a few other things and completely made up the main body of the cable. Also, the forger left an obvious clue when he put things like "ASUU/NUC" and "ASUU OPC AREWA MASSOB" in the heading.

Obvious fake is obvious.

BusinessRe: Cement Price Drops by EvilBrain1(m): 5:08pm On Jun 12, 2011
The reason why everything (cement, rice, etc) costs more in Nigeria is that the government is using regulation to create artificial monopolies for the likes of Dangote, probably in exchange for bribes. Every time the government bans or limits the importation of anything its almost always because they've been bribed by local manufacturers or big man importers.

The abnormally high price of cement does far more harm to the economy than our lack of a local cement industry. Protecting local business is just an excuse they use to fool the ignorant masses. Anyone who knows anything about economics knows that protectionism is ultimately bad for any economy.

The only way to crash the cement price is to allow anybody with the means to import it as long as their product meets minimum standards. Let the free market dictate the price. We've had enough of people like Dangote r@ping our economy with their government mandated monopolies.

If GEJ wanted to stop this nonsense, he could do it today with a stroke of the pen. Unfortunately, because he's PDP and has been a senior member of the corruptocracy for years, there's little to no chance of that happening.

Christianity EtcRe: Skimpy Dresses In The House Of God? by EvilBrain1(m): 5:29pm On Jun 11, 2011
To find the answer to this problem, we must trace it back to the origin. When God created man, he was unclothed. He reigned above all the animals in the garden of Eden and everything was perfect. That is until the appearance of woman. She brought sin into the world, she seduced Adam into eating the fruit and ever since then she has been tormenting man with her feminine attributes. Every day, she tempts us into sin.

No dress is baggy enough to protect man from her. Even outside a mosque, I still get a boner when I see the eyes of a woman in hijab. We must not put our faith in wrappers and scarves and burquas. They can not save us. We must find a true solution. And that true solution is also the final solution:

We must kill all the women!

It's not hard for a criminal to create an identical mail with a spoofed sender address and change the 10 digit nuban to his own bank account number. The banks have unwittingly exposed their customers to potential fraud because some people will surely pay in money without confirming the new number first.

Aside from transaction alerts, no bank should be communicating with customers via email or texts. That's just asking for trouble and they should know better.

Some people are just more comfortable tinkering with computers than others. Fisolucci is an extreme case because he jailbroke his PS3 the very day the hack was released. Plus he used the highly dangerous waninkoko CFW even though he knew it had permanently destroyed thousands of other people's PS3s that day (the guy has balls of steel). Me, I waited a whole 3 days until a safer CFW came out and still allowed plenty of others to risk it before I tried. Fisolucci is the only person I know who used the older hack that needed an android phone or a particular type of scientific calculator to do. Most people have no idea how to even find this information, talk less of having the balls to actually apply it and risk their precious consoles.

Also, I'm sure the Fisolucci will be happy to negotiate price with you. Plus if you don't want to pay, all you have to do is download the games yourself. There's nothing hard there. Personally, I'd rather pay the money than wait for a game like Mass Effect 2 (22Gb!) to finish downloading.
