According to him, the Ministry of Power was constructing a 40 Megawatts Electricity Plant from Kashimbila in Taraba state to Yandev in Gboko local government area in Benue state. “The project is in two phases; phase one is from Kashimbila to Yandev and phase two is from Yandev to Makurdi. Phase one is completed while phase two will be completed within six months”. He declared. A high court in Umuahia, Abia state , has fixed January 19 to deliver judgment in the fundamental human rights suit instituted by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Kanu, who is in DSS custody, filed the suit through his counsel, Aloy Ejimakor against Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), and the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly violating his fundamental human rights. Aside from the AGF and the DSS director-general, other respondents include the federal government of Nigeria (first), chief of army staff (third), inspector- general of police (fifth), and three others. In the suit marked HIH/FR14/2021, Kanu is asking the court to compel the respondents to pay him N5 billion in damages as monetary compensation for the “physical, mental, emotional, psychological and other damages” suffered as a result of the alleged infringement on his fundamental rights. He also asked the court to declare that his extradition from Kenya to Nigeria, his continued detention, and the planned prosecution in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015 “is illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional”. “An order mandating and compelling the respondents or their agents to forthwith release the applicant from detention and restitute or otherwise restore applicant to his liberty, same being his state of being as of 19th June 2021; and to thereupon repatriate the applicant to his country of domicile (to wit: Britain) to await the outcome of any formal request the respondents may file before the competent authorities in Britain for the lawful extradition of the applicant to Nigeria to continue his prosecution in charge No: FHC/ABJ/ CR/383/2015 (federal republic of Nigeria v. Ogechukwu Ochiaga had been ill for a while and her story was shared online last year as people begged for donations to help sponsor her medical treatment. Over three million National Identity Numbers of Nigerians have been stolen after a hacker known only as Sam broke into the server of the National Identity Management Commission. Revealing how easy it was for him to breach the NIMC server and access personal information of millions of Nigerians in an article he shared on infosecwriteups.com, the hacker boastedthat he got access to “juice” on the Nigerian Governmentagency’s server and that he could go ahead to do whatever he desired with other sensitive data at his disposal. Displaying a defaced National Identity card of a Nigerian alongside the article, the hacker said, “I've got one more output for s3 bucket, I casually tried to access it without any hope, and damn! The s3 bucket is full of juice. “I just simply got access to their (Nigeria) data of internal files, users and everything they have. I can download everything, even the whole bucket. I am sure that the bucket is full of juice. “I wanted to look at more files but as we have to follow bug bounty rules I stopped doing more. “I've got one more s3 bucket with nuclei and it also contained about 4–5 gigs of data. “I’ve rewarded 5250$ for only one report and 0$ for the second one even it contained so much sensitive data,” the hacker wrote in the article that has continued to generate reactions from some Nigerians on Twitter especially tech enthusiasts. A user on the micro-blogging platform with the handle @isidags while reacting to the development said, “I’m shocked Nigerians are shocked. “Seems you people don’t know the government and country you’re involved with.” Another user known as @boluxxxx while commenting said, “Jokes aside, this is enough reason for Buhari to sack Pantami.” Berating Nigeria’s weak cyber security, another Twitter user, @bespokeKENErd, said, “It was only a matter of time before this happened. “Nigeria’s information security is ridiculously lax. So careless with sensitive data.” @St_Gothica while reacting to the issue said, “This is exactly why I never wanted to do the NIN registration. Delayed it as long as I could.” Another Twitter user, @The_Jonathanian, said, “Somebody should tell Sheik Pantami that the most sensitive data of Nigerians under his care have been compromised and floating in the wild.” The hacking of the NIMC server has not only exposed Nigeria’s weak cyber security but also highlighted the danger the country’s residents and investments were currently under. The latest cyber attack comes less than two months after the Nigerian Communications Commission in November 2021 issued a warning that an Iranian hacking group was planning to carry out cyber espionage across Africa. A statement from the agency had further disclosed that the hackers were targeting telecoms, Internet Service Providers, and Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria and other African countries. The incident also comes months after the President Muhammadu Buhari administration while mandating Nigerians to enroll for National Identification Number claimed that it was going to stop crimes in the country including those perpetrated via the Internet. Speaking during the launch of the National Policy for the Promotion of Indigenous Content in Nigerian Telecoms Sector and Revised National Identity Policy for SIM Cards registration in May 2021, President Buhari said, “The NIN will cover one of the weaknesses in our security structure. We will be able to easily identify and know the personality of Nigerians. “We will identify people easily, including the crooks.” Assuring Nigerians of how vital the new system would be to crime fighting in the country, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, in June 2021, claimed that incidents of terror such as banditry and kidnapping in the country had significantly reduced as a result of the insistence by government for persons in Nigeria to register for NIN. Pantami went further to say that the improved database will protect Nigerians more than ever before. But despite those assurances, the latest attack has exposed the failure of the President Buhari administration to protect Nigerians from cyber criminals. In the horrific scene captured on video, boaters were heard screaming as they watched a large slab of rock fall from a canyon onto boats cruising the lake near Capitolio, a city in Minas Gerais state. Two of the boats were directly hit by the falling stone, but authorities were able to rescue 24 people from those vessels. Three women and four men were confirmed dead, Pedro Aihara, a spokesperson for the Minas Gerais fire department told newsmen. More than 30 people were treated at the scene of the Capitólio city collapse, and nine were taken to hospitals with serious injuries. One person was in critical condition with head injuries. Another 20 people are believed to be missing, Reuters reported. Rovilson Teixeira who has worked as a guide in the tourist area for the last six years, said he was stunned by the sight of the falling rocks. Teixeira said; “We are completely shocked, and nobody really knows how many victims are involved. “There is not just one, not just two but probably many deaths. There are a lot of people with injuries. The region is full of ambulances that have come from other parts of the state to help the victims. No one is sure about the size of this tragedy.” A spokesman for the Brazilian Navy said they are opening an investigation into the accident. The Governor of Minas Gerais state said in a statement that the accident was likely caused by heavy rains in the area that dislodged the rocks. Authorities issued warnings for tourists to stay away from waterfalls in the area just hours before the accident. Minas Gerais governor Romeu Zema said; “We are suffering the pain of a tragedy in our state due to heavy rains that provoked the accident in the Furnas lake. Rescue workers are still on the scene. “We are in solidarity with the families at this difficult moment.” Furnas Lake, which was created in 1958 for the installation of a hydroelectric plant, is a popular tourist draw in the area roughly 260 miles north of Sao Paulo. Officials in Capitolio, which has about 8,400 residents, say the town can see around 5,000 visitors on a weekend, and up to 30,000 on holidays. The musician had proposed to his girlfriend during her 51st birthday last May after dating for one year and two month. Booty reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival and was made to self-isolate at Ave Maria Hotel at South Legon, but she was picked up from isolation by her friends on December 6, 2021, before its conclusion. According to Ghana police, Booty was then lodged at Rayporsh Hotel at Abelemkpe and attempted traveling back to Nigeria but couldn't because she had visa issues. She reportedly returned to the hotel afterwards. While the police await a full autopsy report, the US embassy has been notified of the death. A Pastor has been seen in a live streamed video, carrying out a bizzare crossover ritual for his female church members. The Pastor was seen asking his church members to hurry up and come for the "holy bath". The church members stripped naked and were seen tying towels while being rubbed olive oil by another Pastor after the bath. The cleric also claimed that he got the directive from above and knows it might cause controversy even though he has no option than to obey the spirit. Local news platforms in Ghana reported that the Pastor engaged in the ritual to cleanse his members so they will be "holy and pure"'.
