Hello Nairalanders!

I am just another young Nigerian who resides in Lagos still struggling, hustling and chasing my dreams.

Unfortunately, I have a selfish Landlord. He asks for money all the time, I cooperated last year and each time he does ask, I find something for him.
This year I want to be much more prudent with my expenses and I only want to pay for my rent when it is due because if I continue the same way, I might end up paying 5 years upfront and that means I am working just to satisfy my rather selfish Landlord.

Here comes the hurdle, my rent will be due by December. My Landlord just served me a quit notice to vacate my apartment by January next year, only a month after my rent must have expired.

I pay my rent annually and will like to know what my rights are in a situation like this.
I know and accept that I will definitely vacate his property but how long more does the law permit me to stay and make arrangement for the next place to move in.

Once again the quit notice was served to me today to vacate by January, 2019. My rent is still active and expires December 30, 2018.

I am counting on lawyers in the house and experienced Nairalanders to put me through on my next move. I think I should be entitled to 6 months stay after the expiration of my rent by law to make arrangement to move i.e June 2019.
Am I right? can someone just throw me out of his property by January when my rent expires by December?

I am not sure the rightful section to put this thread, the mod please do the needful so this gets enough exposure so people can contribute, I just want to get the right information so no one can mess with my rights.

You can also go and make a report at The Office of Public Defender. They offer free legal services, unless they have changed now. Google their office address to find the one closest to you.

In that case, feign sickness so that when he calls he'll feel it in your voice that your enemy is sick and not you. Tell him he needs to come take you to the hospital because you can't really explain how you're feeling. Meanwhile get him a gift, something that wouldn't bore hole in your pocket but something beautiful. Prepare him his favourite dish, and get his parents involved in your plans, especially his father. When he comes, set the table for lunch or dinner, kneel down and apologize yet again, ok? Then give him the gift. Tell him how very sorry you're and how you've learnt your lessons and wouldn't ever hit him again. How you didn't even know what came over you in the first place to have acted the way you did. How you love him and wants him back home.

Since that is what he's yearning for, give it to him, ok? He might think he has won a trophy when you've done all this, but he'll not know you did it just for peaceful coexistence.

And I beg you not to ever put yourself in a situation where he will play god over you again.
The relationship should be that of partners and not of boss and subordinate.

Trust me when I say I know these things. I am even shocked. But what will the world say or what they see, what he is holding on to and people see is I was physical. I pushed him so it surpasses all things. Trust me I want to give up but since the aim is to bring him back home at least and for peace to reign. Hopefully with time, the tables would turn.

We understand your situation, but kindly listen to the numerous advise experienced married people have already given you here. Believe me that your husband's heart is 24/7 at home with you, but he's using manipulate measure to punish you for going physical with him and you can't kill yourself because he has decided to be so unforgiving.

He doesn't know that the journey of a marriage is not a year journey. It lasts a life time. So the earlier he realizes that and braces up to maturity, the better for him. Just few months into marriage and he is already exposing his family's issue to everybody. I know some people will be killing themselves there. If a staff falls and dies, he or she will be replaced the following day.

The work environment is too toxic. You know that type of job that you'll wish the day will not break so you wouldn't go back there. They have no regard for staff welfare.

Honestly, it's the worst place anybody can work. There's no structure at all. So many things are wrong in that school.

Kids Court School, Modupe Johnson for Creche and Montessori and Femi Ayantuga for Primary School. They are situated in Surulere, Lagos.

1. You come to work a second late, they deduct N1000.00 from your salary.

2. Even if you were admitted in the hospital and you eventually resume work with a doctor's report, as soon as it's salary time they mark you absent for those days and deduct your salary for the number of days you were hospitalized. It doesn't matter if you're looking pale when you resume.

3. If you're pregnant and suddenly falls ill while at work, the Deputy Head Teacher will tell you not to step out of the school gate. He'll tell you to manage until closing hour. And if it's glaringly serious that you were eventually rushed to the hospital from the school, the Deputy Head Teacher, marks you absent for the day. That one has transformed himself to a demigod on someone else's business, hurting many people because of N150,000 per month salary.

4. If one is bereaved of a close family member, be it a father, a mother, a brother, or a sister (I am not even talking about Cousins, Nephews or Nieces) and you seek permission to attend the burial, they deduct your salary for the number of days they permitted you to go.

5. Salary is deliberately paid as from 15th of next month. And no one tells you while it can't be paid at least on the last day of the month.

6. As soon as you enter the school gate by 7am (being the school's official resumption time), they lock you inside. You're not allowed to go out again until closing time, unless few teachers who have a class to teach at the 2nd school in Modupe Johnson.

7. And if you're tired of the job, dare sit down to greet the woman or her husband. The law is that no teacher or staff of that school should greet them while sitting. In fact, it's an abomination. She has sacked people because they sat down to greet her, or because they weren't fast enough in doing so.

8. The Director of the School finds so much pleasure in publicly insulting her staff. Just recently on the School's Fun Day, she asked her teachers and staff to go get bin bag each and begin to pick the dirt on field where the event was already taking place, with parents and invited guests watching in awe. Remember field was paid including cost of tidying up the place.

Owing to the demeaning ways she treats her teachers and staff, majority of the Parents no longer have respect for them, except the Management Staff.

9. The Director does not regard anybody below her level as a human being. She's very beautiful but extremely wicked and arrogant. And regrettably, she is a Nigerian! Not a Lebanese.

10. This is to mention a few because there are just too numerous. Many people resume work there and leave immediately after their first salary. Many. It is that bad.

11. Just two cleaners in each of the school. No body working there is expected to sit down.

It is a good school for the pupils, but not for anyone going there to work.

Putting priority to the wedding rather than the marriage itself.

Please try and run a pregnancy test too. And I pray God strengthens you at a time like this. Heed the advise of those that said you should seek professional help.

If you need to cry, please don't refrain yourself. Just go into your closet and cry until you feel the burden lifted, but never you nurture any suicidal thoughts. That man or anybody for that matter is not worth dying for, I beg you.
