An Igbo socio-cultural think tank with members both in Nigeria and the diaspora, Nzuko Umunna, yesterday, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise beyond the June 30, 2022, deadline to address the surge in eligible voters. The group said it has observed the enthusiasm of eligible voters to get registered, as well as INEC’s assurances that no voter will be disenfranchised, stressing that the commission has demonstrated uncommon patriotism. In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the group, Ngozi Odumuko, the group noted that it has observed the huge turnout of eligible voters, especially youths, for voter registration across the country. The group said: “We have observed, in the past one week, the large turnout of Nigerians, especially the youths, across the federation for the Continuous Voter Registration exercise. It further noted that the development would impact positively on the development of democracy in the country. “This development is a positive one for our democracy as it signifies increasing interest of citizens in the electoral process and, therefore, should be encouraged by the election management body and stakeholders in the country,” it said. The group also commended various religious, civil society groups and individuals, who have been encouraging the citizens to register and vote during elections. It, however, commended the electoral body for deploying additional 209 registration machines to Lagos, Kano and states in the South East, where it noticed large turnout of unregistered voters for the exercise. SIMILARLY, following the surge in the number of citizens seeking to register in the on-going CVR exercise, INEC in Anambra, has created additional 25 registration centres across the state. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, who disclosed this during a press briefing, yesterday, in Awka, said that operations have commenced at the centres. Orji disclosed that the additional centres bring the total number in Anambra to 87, adding that some local council offices, shutdown as a result of insecurity, have been reopened. “Specifically, on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, the Idemili North Local Council office was reopened. Yesterday, June 14, 2022, we have resumed registration exercise in Ogbaru and Ayamelum councils.” https://guardian.ng/politics/group-urges-inec-to-extend-voter-registration-deadline/

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated an anti-okada squad to join the police in enforcing the partial ban on motorcycle taxis (okadas). The ban which was announced on 18 May bars okadas from operating in six local government areas, all highways, major roads, and bridges. The Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, said in a statement on Tuesday that the ban was in line with the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL) 2018. He called on Lagosians to report anybody flouting the law. “It is the responsibility of the public to report any nefarious activities of the squad to the Ministry of Transportation. ”The public can report through the following help/complaint lines: 09038208154, 09034810153, 09033090826, and 09169655855. “Such reports will help the government generate feedback on strategies for the protection of lives and property. “Individuals arrested will be made to face the full wrath of the law in line with the provision of Section 46, sub-section 1, 2 & 3 of the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL), 2018,” Oladeinde said. The Commissioner restated that motorcycles impounded would be crushed, just like the state has been doing in the past weeks. The Special Anti-Okada Squad will report to the police. https://www.nigeriainfo.fm/lagos/news/homepagelagos/lagos-inaugurates-anti-okada-squad-to-work-with-police/

After his neighbor’s daughter accused him of raping her twice at their home in the Oja-Amukoko region of Lagos state, a man named only as Kayode committed suicide. According to reports, Kayode was placed in charge of the 16-year-old girl after the victim’s mother, who was critically ill, was taken to the state’s Ikorodu area for treatment. The victim’s father claimed that his daughter accused Kayode of rapping her twice, and that he had her phone seized to prevent her from informing her family. “My daughter lives with her mother because my wife and I are no longer together,” he explained. My ex-wife had suffered a stroke, and we learned that she had a neighbour, Kayode, who had been assisting her with her care. “However, when my ex-illness wife’s worsened, she was taken to Ikorodu for treatment, accompanied by her daughter.” “As time passed, my neighbour had to go there to bring my daughter back to her mother’s house in Amukoko so she could continue her education.” “However, she abruptly left her mother’s residence and arrived at my residence on the Ojo side.” She stated that she wanted to stay with me until her mother recovered. “About 20 minutes later, Kayode arrived at my house and began claiming that he knew my daughter’s behaviour better than I did. “He said that since he was the one who brought her home, if she was no longer staying at her mother’s house, he would have to return her to her mother in Ikorodu.” “He also claimed that she came to stay with me because she wanted the freedom to go out and that he never agreed with her mother that she would stay with me.” According to the victim’s father, Kayode returned his daughter to him after speaking with his ex-wife, but a few days later, he received a call from his ex-younger wife’s brother, telling him to go home and rescue his daughter. “I rushed there, but I didn’t meet her at home,” he explained. When I called my ex-younger wife’s brother, he said he’d be there shortly. “I saw my daughter after a few minutes, and she told me Kayode had raped her.” “She explained that she couldn’t sleep alone in her mother’s apartment and that when she slept at Kayode’s, he raped her twice and took her phone.” “When she told Kayode she needed to contact her mother, he handed over his phone to her, and instead of calling her mother, she texted her mother’s younger brother.” “So we went to a police station, and she explained everything to the officers, who said they couldn’t listen to just our side of the story.” We went to Kayode’s house to pick him up, but he wasn’t there. “The cops then told us to go to Orege General Hospital for a medical examination. We were also told to come back the next day while they looked for him. “The next day, I got a call that Kayode had died after ingesting insecticide.” “They discovered him in their backyard and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” the victim’s father explained. While verifying the incident, state Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin stated, “The victim’s father reported that his wife’s co-tenant, Kayode, defiled his daughter.” Following the report, police officers were dispatched to apprehend the perpetrator, but he was not found. He continued, “The body was recovered but later released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.” https://tvn.news/news/lagos-tenant-commits-suicide-after-defiling-neighbours-16-year-old-daughter/

Twitter, others must delete porn posts within 24 hours – FG The Federal Government has ordered online interactive platforms, such as Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to ensure that they remove, disable or block access to any non-consensual content, which displays partial or full nudity, sexual acts, deep fake or revenge porn within 24 hours. This order was included in the recently released Code of Practice for Interactive Computer Service Platforms/Internet Intermediaries (online platforms). According to the document, these online platforms have to “act expeditiously to remove, disable, or block access to non-consensual content that exposes a person’s private areas, full or partial nudity, sexual act, or revenge porn, where such content is targeted to harass, disrepute, or intimidate an individual. A Platform must acknowledge the receipt of the complaint and take down the content within 24 hours.” The Code of Practice also directs these platforms to take down any unlawful content upon receiving a notice from a user, or an authorised government agency. Oh my, dis is an unfortunate & uncomforting truth, and a very saddening one at dt! Bad leadership & misgovernance hv alwys been d reason 4 all dis setbacks & ruts, bt then again, d same suffering masses are d ones who are bewitched wit d spirit of errors 2 persistently voting in, wrong persons 2 oppress them perpetually! Yap, dt's because Nigerians are already bewitched 2 not recognise nor choose the right persons! Tbey'd rather vote in, their oppressors, and then keep wallowing & lamenting while the oppression lasts! In my opinion, right-thinking Nigerians shld be crying {literally} when intellectual & technocratic pple wit administrative competence are losing elections, while d self-seeking looters are corruptly winning! carreport: |
Is it not corruption at public glare 4 any aspirant or candidate 2 "dollarise" their way into winning primaries? And u stil expect such corrupt individuals 2 fight corruption in d Nation shld they eventually emerge d winners? Huh? Nokio1: |
Will they let ur votes count? Huh? Or, who told u in d previous elections pple didn't hv their PVC? Jashub: |
According to the PUNCH news, the Nigerian electricity supply is the worst globally! At independence of 1960, who would have thought that the Nigeria of 2022 would still be bedeviled with absence of basic infrastructural facilities or social amenities. Much like the situations of Nigeria under the different colonial governments seemed to be much better compared to now. Or, has there been any significant changes compared with the number of years we have gained independence vis-a-vis the stupendous resources the Almighty God has lavishly bestowed upon this Nation? Now, another general elections is here, and you want to recycle the people who have been the ones responsible for the backwardness of this Great Nation? I counsel that {at all levels of governance, particularly, at the National level} we vote into power the individuals that have proven track record of integrity, and of being truly people-oriented, selfless, visionary, technocratic, intellectual, energetic, and God-fearing! The disabling perennial problem of democratic elections, among others, has been the very fact that, votes are numerically counted {quantity}, but not weighed {quality}, plus the covert prejudices & sentimental stunts of the electoral umpires {who ought to be politically neutral}. If it's on Nigeria matter, there have always been whole lots to say or write about, but let me just peg it here, for now.

Meanwhile, during d time, I hosted many external supervisors in d sch at different times, and neva once did anyone of them raised an eyebrow abt it. Although Schs are more pedantic than one anoda. Any sch dt's overly pedantic may not let u bcom d Principal however good or dexterous u may be! Whereas, any sch dt's flexible abt following rules, wil alwys wave or wink at it, and thus go ahead 2 put a competent person there, regardless of weda or not d person has B.ed! |
This was hunted to be eaten, live! Has anyone eaten Lion Meat before? Meanwhile, if you are the type that do eat meat in restaurants, you can't have a sure bet that you haven't eaten certain wild animals before. This is because operators of restaurants do make demand for different kinds of venison from hunters, which they in turn butchered into different sizes to be sold to their customers, which include you!
