Politics › Re: Biafra: Igbos Would Require Visa, Work Permit To Re-enter Lagos, Abuja by gare(f): 8:20pm On Jul 05, 2017
igbodefender:
The request by some Northern youth groups for Igbos in the South East to be allowed to hold referendum and become Biafra is a trap. It is intended to turn the South East into the world’d biggest ‘independent’ prison. Why do we say so? Let’s examine the facts.

Igbos would no longer be Nigerian citizens and therefore could easily be deported from Lagos and other parts of Nigeria: instead of traveling around Nigeria freely as Nigerian citizens, they would have to return to Biafra and go to the Nigerian Embassy to get visa to return to their properties in Lagos, Abuja, etc.

Something tells me that if ever Igbos are mass deported in this situation, they will have to pay through their noses to go back to their jobs and houses and schools in Nigeria.

And some Nigerian state governments would impose quota saying, ‘ Now we have tricked the Igbos out. Let us impose immigration quota on them to keep them out. Nigeria will only accept 10,000 Igbo immigrants per year. And any Igbo coming in must be made to pay through their nose for visa and work permit.’ South East Igbos, how about that?

If you try to shout that you were born in Lagos and are therefore a Lagosian, they will remind you that you are no longer a Nigerian citizen but a foreigner, since your people decided to vote for ‘independence’.

So, all of you Igbos that live outside the South East don’t rejoice over this referendum. Defeat it with common sense reasoning.

It may be bitter to swallow, but you're close to the truth, I don't think they have sat down to look at the issues critically, its not by running around shouting IPOB, do they have a plan B if the SS states refuses to go with them what happens then.

I expect them to be reaching out to other tribes in the SS to form and alliance but they just sit down and draw up a map claiming other ethnic groups as part of them, the same thing they blame the Nigeria state of doing is the exact same thing Kanu and co are doing.

This is the time for them to be building bridges rather than dancing form Port harcourt to Owerri to umuhia shouting IPOB, but there's more to that

He said medical care will not heal. He needs only prayer to be heal but Aso Rock people refused to show him where he is. He said the same thing happened during Jonathan's regime where he wanted to give him prophecy but Aso Rock people did not allow him speak to him. He was saying that not tomorrow now people will say Mbaka this Mbaka that. Remember sometimes ago he said he went to pray for Buhari but Aso Rock people did not allow him see him. Why do you think they destroy every attempt by any oil companies HQ that makes plan to move back to SS.

Lagos to me is the biggest leeches. If yoruba so believe that they solely made what it is as they claim, why is that rest of SW looks like a piece of sh1t whom the government have to treat like an IDP camp.

Let's test a theory, let every oil company HQ migrate back to wherever they drill their oil from. Close down every non yoruba companies in SW and have them return back to each region they hail from, then let's wait and see the progress of Lagos.
You forget to mention opening of the seaports in the Niger Delta, that is why they have fustrated every effort to open the port's in Warri, port Harcourt and Calabar

Politics › Re: "We Are Urhobos And Nigerians, Not Biafrans" - Senator Omo-agege by gare(f): 10:56pm On Jun 07, 2017
stephanie11:
Delta central senator, Ovie Omo-Agege has emphatically stated that Urhobo people are not part of Biafra. Omo-Agege in a statement released on Wednesday stated that the Urhobo nation is part of Nigeria and not interested in seceding or being part of Biafra.

The statement read;

With the deluge of concerns being raised by my people, it has become necessary to state with absolute clarity as the Senator for the Urhobo Nation in the 8th Senate of our Federal Republic of Nigeria that the Urhobo Nation has never been, is not and does not wish to be part of Biafra.

Whereas Article 1 (2) of the United Nations Charter recognises the “principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples”, this, obviously, does not grant any group the right to arbitrarily usurp the self-determination right of others. MASSOB, IPOB or whatever ethnic-leaning group may have the right to agitate for self-determination for the people they represent.

But that right would be encroaching and trampling severely and irresponsibly on the rights of other ethnic groups if, without consultations or any consensus whatsoever, they (MASSOB, IPOB or whatever ethnic-leaning group) decide to forcefully include others in their self-determination agenda. The Urhobo Nation totally rejects such unforgivable disrespect that touches on our very existence. Indeed, the unilateral inclusion of the Urhobo Nation in the flag or map of Biafra is an abhorrent, and condemnable threat to our people. It is an unacceptable attempt to suppress our own right to self-determination. We will never tolerate it and it must stop forthwith. We are cautioning against this trend of arbitrariness and disregard for the rights of others because we know that such a ‘conquest mentality’ has never promoted sustainable peace in human history.

The Urhobo Nation believes in the unity of the Nigeria Federation. Our preference, as a major strategic partner in our Federation, is to work hard to correct its imperfections, not to break it up into bits and pieces. I will continue to work with my great and highly respected colleagues of Ndigbo extraction and other parts of our country in the National Assembly to perfect our Union, not break it. In all, this is our simple and firm position: We are Urhobos and Nigerians, not Biafrans.

Urukpe:
Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has said that the Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose will not be allowed by the courts to contest again for Governorship position in 2018 ‎to serve his first term which was truncated in 2006 as a recent statement credited to him claimed. Fayose was impeached about seven months to the end of his first term in 2006, but the Supreme Court in 2014 reinstated him as the Governor of the state. As the Governorship elections in the state perches round the corner.

Mr. Fayose has been reported to have said that he would seek a re-election to complete his first tenure which was truncated in 2006. He reportedly made the statement on Monday. ‎However, the Human Rights lawyer, Falana, while reacting to Fayose’s claims said that the Governor’s bid to seek re-election was illegal and unconstitutional. According to him, “Tenure extension by a governor under any disguise is anomalous.

No court can prolong the tenure of a sitting governor buying the two terms prescribed by the Constitution. “In the case of Gov Rasheed Ladoja v INEC the appellant wanted an extension of his term of office to allow him to spend extra 11 months while he was fighting his impeachment from outside. “Although the Supreme Court had set aside his impeachment it was held that the relief was illegal and unconstitutional. “Similarly, the governors who were re-elected after their initial election was annulled, the Supreme Court made it abundantly clear that tenure extension was unknown to the Constitution. “In view of the settled position of the law on the matter, Governor Ayo Fayose cannot be granted by any court in Nigeria.”

Politics › Re: Reasons To Prove Goodluck Jonathan’s Administration Was A Waste – APC by gare(f): 9:47am On May 24, 2017
Factfinder1:
The All Progressive Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter has stated that the era of the former president of the country, Goodluck Jonathan, was a total waste.

The admission was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the state’s APC in which it listed the various reasons why “Jonathan’s Presidency was similarly a total disaster for Rivers State and her people.”

The statement credited to the Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson and signed by the State Chairman of the party, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya reads in part: “Rivers APC aligned itself also with the historical statement credited to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa – the home State of former President Jonathan – that his six years in Aso Rock was a waste for the Ijaw Nation.

“The party declared that Jonathan’s Presidency was similarly a total disaster for the Rivers State and her people for the following reasons: Jonathan failed to muster the courage and political will in a PDP-controlled National Assembly to see to the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) in the over six years of his administration to demonstrate his hatred for the Niger Delta region, knowing that communities in Rivers State will benefit from the bill.

“The East/West Road, especially Eleme-Onne axis in Rivers State, was abandoned and became a nightmare to travellers. He refused to refund to the State Government over 110 billion naira used in the dualisation of Ikwerre-Owerri Road approved by late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and other Federal Roads in the State executed by the State to ease the sufferings of the people of Rivers State.
APC lists reasons Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency was “a total disaster”

“He wickedly stopped the Train 7 at NLNG Bonny, resulting in the loss of jobs to Rivers people and revenue to the State Government.

“Refused to implement the UNEP Report on the clean-up of Ogoni land despite all the pleas by our people and the International Community – just to punish the Ogonis and “Rivers State irrespective of their overwhelming support for him during the 2011 elections. Jonathan duly acknowledged that he has no project to point as was executed by his administration for the six years he was Abuja as President.

“Most wickedly, he ceded oil wells belonging to Rivers to Bayelsa and Abia states to ensure that the revenue accruing to the State is reduced to nothing.

“Abandoned construction of the Port Harcourt International Airport after completing other airports started at the same time with it.

“The airport was described as the worst sixth Airports in the world during Jonathan’s administration.

“Posting and encouraging the excesses of the tyrannical Police Commissioner Joseph Mbu during his inglorious days in the State.

“Supporting every imaginable act of impunity in the State, including the plot by five State Assembly members to impeach the Speaker in a House of 31 members.

“Seizing and grounding the planes of the State for no just cause.

“Harassing and intimidating the duly elected Governor of Rivers State then for no just cause and even supporting the splitting of the Governors’ Forum into two just to ensure that former Governor Amaechi, who was duly elected by his colleagues, did not have an easy reign as the Chairman of the Forum.

“Though what Rivers State suffered in the hands of Jonathan is so enormous we hand over his case and that of Wike to God to handle.”

By Solomon Okocha

"The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." - Aristotle

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Center reports that as of 2005, 40% of school-age children in Africa did not attend primary school and there are still 46 million school-age African children who have never stepped into a classroom.

A regional report produced by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - Bureau for Education in Africa (UNESCO-BREDA) education sector analyst team in 2005 indicates that less than 10% of African children are now allowed in the system. Four out of 10 children did not complete primary school in 2002/2003.

The above reports have one thing in common: primary education is on the decline in Africa. In order to curb the rising menace of poor primary education in Africa, certain recommendations for reform were laid on the table by UNESCO namely: more comprehensive training of head teachers and administrators in economical administration, regular government inspection of schools, encourage parents to complain or fight against schools fees and proactively help parents to know their rights, empower and mobilize local watchdog organizations such as parent-teacher organizations and school-management committees.

I am very sure that Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, had spent quality time studying the United Nations' policy on education. This is because in 2007, few days after he was sworn in as the 5th Governor of Rivers State, he embarked on what many have described as an unbeatable educational landmark in Rivers State, and Nigeria at large. The impact of the Amechi-led educational revolution reverberated throughout the globe, and international accolades poured in endlessly.

The former Governor of Rivers State, who is now the present Minister of Transportation, spent half of his first term in office constructing model primary schools across the length and breadth of the state. It is on record that there is no single local government area in the state that did not benefit from Amaechi's robust infrastructural development in the educational sector. Not only did Amaechi erect international standard primary schools 'everywhere you go' in Rivers State, he also embarked on the training and recruitment of over 13,000 teachers. This record is yet to be beaten in Nigeria. No Governor past or present, has employed that gigantic number of manpower for education in a single day.

For the first time in the history of Rivers State, primary schools were fully equipped with modern science and arts learning tools. Amaechi's primary schools were designed with laboratories, halls, libraries, ICT centers, gardens, sports facilities. Many of the schools had solar power on standby to compliment with normal power supply. Adequate measures were also taken to ensure security.

Unlike before when primary schools in Rivers State was a no man's land, were primary school pupils daily clashed with child molesters and thieves, Amaechi ensured that security was stable in the new schools. With well fenced compounds and well paid private security staff, the issue of insecurity became a thing of the past in our Primary schools.

This Writer believes that many people don't know or perhaps have forgotten that primary education was completely free during Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi's tenure in office. In line with the Universal Basic Education (UBE) - free and compulsory education scheme, no primary school pupil was charged any form of levy in Rivers State during this period. It is also on record that school uniforms, sandals/sneakers, bags, and books were all freely distributed to the school children at the beginning of every term. What manner of Nigerian politician is this? I ask.

Judging by Amaechi's educational drive, It was no surprise when the World Book Capital was moved to Port Harcourt in 2015. The World Book Capital is a title bestowed by UNESCO to a city in recognition of the quality of its programs to promote books and reading and the dedication of all players in the book industry. Wow! Everyone, save greedy politicians were happy with Amaechi for this feat.

Felicitating with the River State Government, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Nobel Laureate for Literature and Goodwill Ambassador/Member of the High Panel for Peace, UNESCO, said: “For us in the Book World, still basking in the glow of a Nigerian city bestowed with the honour of the World Book Capital for 2014, this is a much-deserved recognition. We look forward to next year in Port Harcourt, a historic capital city festooned with the written word with all its spiritually liberating manifestations. We congratulate and felicitate with Governor Amaechi on this happy occasion. He is a role model who has risen above every distraction imaginable orchestrated by the Federal Government to continue to provide purposeful government for the good people of Rivers State."

Till date, encomiums towards Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi's educational crusade in Rivers State have continued to flow freely like a spring that never runs dry. The intellectuals were happy, but the political hawks were angry; Amaechi was wasting Rivers money on the construction of too many schools. In the end, may all those who seek the sweet fruit of education pray thus: O God of creation, may earth never be in want of leaders like Amaechi, who would continue to sin against sons of men, for the good of humanity.

Do you even understand what they call patching of pot holes, in the first place there where no pot holes in the places you mentioned above the roads were bad, what we had there were ditches your mentor left, and the old surface, I mean the whole surfaces where taken out, not just filling the ditches and a fresh surfacing was done and you call that patching may God have mercy on you guys for your blindness

he patched it and I can tell you the exact spots , I stay in woji , I can tell you the particular spots he patched and threw a party like he constructed a new road , Wike has tried but ya'll should stop acting like he has done a great job in terms of construction
Ok since you STAY in Woji name the exact spot that he patched at least it should have a name, you're only concern about Woji road, which is not the only road In Port Harcourt.

I wonder how you guys can live with yourself because you're not in power then everything someone else does is not good, eleme is peaceful and nothing is happening there.
