Being a billionaire is not a sign of success in society.

The majority of Black Nigerian Britons are middle class, they own their property (Value £200 -500k) the will have an annual income of £50k and they are educated.
I beg to disagree. Depending on the industries in which the billionaires generate their wealth, it shows how dynamic and enterprising an economy is. So, the US is obviously a more successful society than the UK.

Gerrard, I respect you a lot but that is not true. Have you ever heard of Mo Ibrahim? He's the richest black man in the UK from Sudan. As of last year, he was worth $1billion. He was the owner of CELTEL. He also has a popular foundation in Africa called the Mo Ibrahim foundation. Dude is not that famous due to the fact that he is low key. The man was in the Sunday Times Rich list for years (that should tell you that i have lived in the system for a while and cannot lie). Google him.
My bad, I apologise. I know about Mo Ibrahim and Strive, but I did not really have them since their wealth was not generated from the UK and/or Europe compared to their Indian and Pakistani counterparts.

He is a billionaire but did not generate his wealth from his dominant environment. Tonye Cole stays in Switzerland and returns to Nigeria for electioneering. If tomorrow he becomes a Swiss, should we technically consider him a European-made wealthy man whereas he did not generate his wealth from his dominant environment? huh

I understand your point but I don't think you understand what he @OP is asking. I don't think the OP meant the ultra wealthy like billionaires. I don't think anyone expects the likes of Dangote to migrate and officially reside abroad, it doesn't make sense.
I think the OP is asking about the rich in general not necessarily the level of Dangotes. Wealth get levels naa
I maintain my stance. The wealthiest reside in their dominant environment as that is where they are most likely to generate their wealth. They will have passports of developed countries to ease navigation, but residing permanently? No, it does not make sense. It is an aberration.

madone:
In abroad you can't have line in house help, you can't have a gate man. You can't have a washer man, all these domestic staff are not easy come by. But in Nigeria you csn have as much as you want and still maltreat them.

Mind you some people can't do without house help.
Wealthy Nigerians can afford those services. It is why they are wealthy. But why reside outside your dominant environment when those services could be provided in your environment? Wealthy Chinese employ domestic servants ditto wealthy Americans. Any supposedly wealthy person who cannot do so is not wealthy.

Using Forbes and Bloomberg, no black billionaire in all of Europe. Adebayo Ogunlesi could have been one, but he is not a dollar billionaire. Meanwhile, there are substantial British-Indians and British-Pakistanis who are dollar billionaires. If a black billionaire is to emerge from Europe, the UK is the most likeliest of places. I don't see France or Italy producing such. I for Impossicant.

BTW, which kind entrepreneurship una wey dey UK dey do sef? E get why I talk say Nigerians are not entrepreneurial. Close to or more than 300K British-Nigerians in the UK, no billionaire. God bless the US sha. If capitalism didn't dey, e didn't dey.

Elon musk is south African...the white nigga lives and shíts in the United States .....

Depends on where their business is thriving the most...
Check all Elon Musk's pictures and tweets. Read his tweets carefully to know whether that dude gives a fvck about black people. In case you don't know, dude does not give a damn about black people. He has never identified with South Africa as a country, but he does identify with the white community there. In business circles, he is seen as an American first and Canadian second before South African. Also, white people who have citizenship in certain African countries maintain strong ties with their ancestral homelands. The White Namibians with Germany and White South Africans/Zimbabweans with England/Netherlands.

Your analogy is akin to saying because Egypt is in Africa geographically, then Egyptians are considered as black people. Nothing concern those people concern us. Elon Musk is only South African in the name. The term "Africa" means black people, black man's homeland.

Women all over the world are known to be hypergamous. In fact, abroad women are more hypergamous than Nigerian/African women. PoliticsRe: Igbo And The Governance Of Lagos by Gerrard59(m): 1:23pm On Oct 02, 2023
Ngwakwe:
If this analysis represents the view of an average South Westerner, then there is a looming problem that required legislative attention to avert the explosion of this dangerous ticking time bomb.

No tribe will play second fiddle to the other where they can muster the majority and desire to fulfil their Nigerian dream through election.

I see war if an Igbo wins a local government election in a free and fair election in Lagos State.
And the crescendo was the 2023 election. From what I have read so far and in tune with my pragmatic nature, I think it is time Igbos, especially those in the southwest, need to understand Nigeria for what it is rather than what they think it should be. There is no point contesting elections in the regions since the indigenes are against it. In fact, no point voting. Yes, there is really no point. The same applies to census. Don't participate. Stop seeing other regions as your home. See it as a place to make money and leave.

This thread reminds me of a video I watched on Twitter of a white man who is a descendant of three generations residing in Japan. He and other descendants were born and bred in Japan; he even has Japanese nationality. But when asked if he is Japanese, he replied no. That, he is a Japanese national, but he is not an ethnic Japanese. Just because he has the passport does not make him ethnic Japanese. Those are two different concepts. Additionally, a few years ago, some Japanese complained about why a biracial lady (Japanese mom and Indian dad) should have won the beauty contest "Most Beautiful Girl in Japan". Their argument? She does not look Japanese. Also, it reminds me of Lydia Balogun, who is biracial and currently represents Nigeria in a beauty pageantry. Obviously, her dad being Nigerian qualifies her to represent Nigeria. But other black people, especially African Americans, found it odd since Nigeria is the world's most populous black country. Some Nigerians wondered why a lady so fair (as if monoracial fair ladies in Nigeria are nonexistent) would/should represent a country full of dark people. There goes the axiom: to negros, biracial folks are too white to be considered negros and to whites, too negros to be whites.

Nigeria is an ethnically fractured country, and people need to start realising this simple fact. My dad is Igbo and my mom, Ibibio. I have stronger ties to Akwa Ibom than the state my dad comes from. I speak, write and understand the language (Ibibio). But I cannot contest in an election in the state because my dad is not from Akwa Ibom. In fact, when the issue of departmental election in the university was brought up, someone mentioned my name as a potential contestant. Others objected to it that a non-indigene cannot be a representative of the department. When I reminded them that my mom is from the state and I am culturally Ibibio, they chorused, "it does not matter". Tor! I was not interested in any elective or even appointed position, but it showed me there are certain boundaries I should not cross.

GRV's case was worsened by his previous tweets and inability to speak the language, aka "I don't think in Yoruba". That can be misconstrued by political opponents. On the one hand, it can mean I think broadly rather than in Yoruba since Lagos is a cosmopolitan state. On the other hand, it can mean you disregard the natives whose lingua franca is Yoruba, even though his dad is Yoruba. My issue was the flogging of Igbos and other ethnic minorities and even fellow Yorubas simply because they looked like "Igbos". Neighbours complained about how they got maltreated just because of their origin and appearance. An Ibibio man by name Aniedi got killed. Aniedi could have even been an Omo Igbo hater, but due to his appearance, him don die. Well, it is Nigeria; always expect the worst.

Going forward, young Nigerians should understand the country (including the world) for what it is, rather than what they think it should be. Igbos in the south west should learn from their kith in the north who tend to mind their business. Unlike in Plateau state, where the indigenes have an unbroken relationship with Igbos to fend off Fulani/Hausa incursions, that relationship cannot be replicated elsewhere. An Igbo man is Unijos' VC. But never expect such at UI or Unilag. This is why the argument that someone from Kogi (the Yoruba side) or Kwara cannot be a politician in Lagos does not fly with me. Culturally, that is permissible. You cannot impose your cultural norms on others. It is their land, after all. What are you going to do about it? The solution, as peddled by some, is division, rightfully so. But until Nigerians are prepared to fight another civil war, bloodier than the first, division is impossicant. A more realistic solution would be to mind who you marry so your children would not have tainted blood.
TravelRe: Why Do Most Wealthy Nigerians Prefer To Live In Nigeria Than To Relocate Abroad? by Gerrard59(m):
Mathematically, it is appropriate for the wealthy to reside in their dominant environment. The wealthiest Japanese reside in Japan, ditto Chinese in China or Singaporeans in Singapore. Expecting your wealthiest folks to reside outside their dominant environment is an aberration. The tale that they won't get the level of respect abroad as at home is even more reason they remain in their dominant environment. Wealthy Chinese who relocate from Mainland China tend to move to Singapore or Hong Kong, where the majority look like them.

The mathematical reason is also why most black billionaires come from Africa, not the US or Europe (no black billionaire in all of Europe anyway). Sub-Saharan Africa is the home of black people. So, statistically, it should produce more black billionaires.

Modified: Mo Ibrahim and Strive Masiyiwa are black billionaires with British nationality. However, both men generated their wealth from Sudan, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

I went for ones naming and the place was filled with Nigerian-carribean families. After d ceremony, we sat and started talking then I brought up d topic of why they are leaving our naija girls to die single, men u need to see d response from carribean/black/naija-american women. Talking about how naija women raised in naija are entitled, lazy, demanding, toxic, crafty etc. Right now carribean, black American and naija-americans are rushing naija men from naija. Go to USA and see how they are rushing naija men in colleges and universities giving them asap papers and being loyal. Naija men are Gold now cos they always seek for personal development and are more responsible than thier carribean counterparts
They married black women, whether Caribbean or African American. That is different from the topic which compares White women in the UK to Nigerian women in the UK. Unless these Nigerian men in the UK are marrying black women from other countries/regions, your post does not correspond.

Ultimately, people would always marry people who look like them. The majority of black men will marry black women and vice versa. Humans are tribal. Which is why denigrating black women (Nigerian in this case) does more harm than good, because at the end of the day, the Nigerian men will always marry black women, in this case, Nigerian women.

This was how the Ghanaian president appointed over 1100 PAs. Before then, Ayade did the same and used his outlandish grammar to justify it. Just like Umo Eno's predecessor, the Ghanaian president was constructing a church which had no economic benefit to the state or country. Today, Ghana is in sifia economic pain. Akwa Ibom is slightly lucky as it is just a state within Nigeria, but it also suffers from high unemployment (top three nationwide).

The black man has a problem, both at home and abroad. I am yet to be convinced otherwise.

The majority of Nigerians who are active on social media are from the southern part, of which Igbos and Yorubas make up the bulk. So, it is expected that news from the south west and south east will generate greater views and attention compared to other states regardless of the party in power.

I maintain my stance: anyone doing supposedly well in Nigeria, married with children and above 35 years old should remain in Nigeria. If the person MUST relocate, do so on a work visa sponsored by a reputable company. Even with that criterion, only the sponsored candidate must move first and settle down for a year before bringing in other family members.

I beg you, don't learn German if you intend to study abroad, You are better off learning Spanish, which is easier to grasp than German. To obtain a student visa to Germany, as I write, is EXTREMELY TOUGH for many students without a First Class. Those with scholarships are favoured, BUT the timeline compared to say the US, UK, Canada etc before they can get an interview date (not guaranteed the visa will be issued) is very long.

South American universities are less costly and offer extremely favourable immigration opportunities. Some have a straightforward path to the US - which is indisputably the best place for black folks to thrive/excel professionally. Don't take my word for it, do your research. A Nairalander who quoted me to know about studying in Japan has a BA in German and found it difficult to get an interview date. NOTE: A BA in German o. German student visa was easy to obtain before Covid, not anymore. Indians even face longer times than us.

Hello there. I wrote this year's UTME exams and had a score of 286. I have been offered admission to study Computer Science in a Federal University.

I'd like to know if they are any scholarships available to freshman or I have to have a CGPA before I can apply for one.

If available, I'd really appreciate if I could be referred to any. Thanks for your time. smiley
Check your state government and senatorial/HoR representative for bursaries and student support. Do your research to know when MTN, Chevron, Seplat, ExxonMobil and other organisations advertise scholarship programs. Know their requirements from previous sessions and plan ahead.

If you are from an oil-producing state, you would have many offers. Your program is good for it. Engineering and medical programs tend to be listed as opposed to biology-related courses. That is, a Computer Science student will have greater scholarship opportunities than his/her Biochemistry counterpart. The offers from state governments and political office holders tend to come without CGPA restrictions but offer less financial support. Those from private organisations have strict CGPA requirements and offer higher tuition support. The BGS in my department (a biology-related course) studying Mechanical Engineering at a sister university enjoyed both MTN and Chevron scholarships: I think 150K per year from each organisation. The scholarships really assisted him in many ways.

Some peg their CGPA at 3.5/5.0. Others do it at 4.0. To be on the safe side and be opportune to qualify for many, because the competition will be fierce, try to maintain a CGPA of 4.0/5.0. If you had a high JAMB score of >300, I would have recommended the full tuition support offered by StanbicIBTC. It covers your entire program duration. Na from research I sabi this one. So, do your research. Unlike other countries, there are no limits to how many scholarships you can get. I know a distant schoolmate who I was told also enjoyed scholarships from three organisations during his studies.

This judgement is a major reason a society becomes prosperous - the rule of law. It sounds so easy, but that concept is why some societies are more prosperous, safer and developed than others. They ensure people face the consequences for their actions.
