Good luck to the would-be mother. I don't know why some ladies are so base. Your friend was too cheap.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by godG:
Don't take me seriously.

I feel I should add this: Don’t just change your major because it seems like the ‘right’ thing to do.
Yes, folks are telling you how great life could be being a STEM student in the US; trust me, they are right. STEM courses will most likely open doors for you, but NOT like they will give you all you want on a platter.

If you are seriously considering changing (like from Yoruba to Chemistrysmiley), I am not writing this to tell you not to, just wanted you to ask yourself some of the important life questions:
1. What do I really want in life?
2. How do I want to fund my education?
3. Why did I study **insert your current major**?
4. Is America the solution or means to my life aspirations?
5. Where do I see myself in, say 20 or 30 years (if He tarries), from now?
6. What are the things that give me peace? Money?

If you feel (1.) all that matters is going to college, getting a job, and starting a family ASAP, (2.) you are going to be self-funded, (3.) you just studied your course because you had no choice, (4.) America is a means or solution to your aspirations; and (5.) money is one main factor – which should be – of course, I will be the first to tell you to change your major. STEM will take you closer to those aspirations.

However, if you are passionate about what you do, please, DO NOT change your major because you want to be ‘well-suited’ for life in America. Don’t come to America thinking once you bag an MSc in a STEM course, you start living the American dream. It goes beyond that, long is the road to fulfillment. If STEM was all that matters, why do you think folks are still grinding-on towards PhD in their chosen STEM majors? Nothing is guaranteed anywhere. Just do want you like, be exceptionally good at it, and watch how life events will unfold. #CaseClosed

1. When dining with anyone, drop your phone. Perhaps, you could switch to silent mode.

2. When on a call, don't put the person you are calling or that calls on loudspeaker without informing them they are on loudspeaker.

gentlegenius:
I used to be addicted to Facebook but ever since I joined Nairaland, I only visit Facebook once a day. This has nothing to do with patriotism but simply because I've already learned so much and I'm still learning here on Nairaland. To some extent, Nairaland has improved my intellect more than Facebook.
But there are a few things Nairaland should learn from Facebook. One of them is the absence of DELETE. Why can't we completely delete any post we don't need or probably posted by mistake or in a wrong section? I only dislike Nairaland for this. Seun and co pls take note.
For me, I no even dey Facebook again. If I feel the need to be on any 'social media', it's strictly Nairaland.

Apologies for the slow response. Your earlier e-mail arrived while I was traveling and did not have e-mail access.

What this means is that at this point, you cannot depend on the department to provide financial assistance. If that changes, I will let you know. I’m sorry the news is not better, and I wish we had more GTA lines to extend to qualified students such as yourself.

Just got this email lol... heartbreaking. That waiting list ish is just a long thing.
Tell your worries to Jesus. You can also look at other units or departments in the school. All will be well. Best wishes.

$100 is even too much sef (at least for me. Lol). I'm assuming you have Nigerian food stashed up in your house, they make your grocery shopping less expensive and this is why I always tell anybody I know coming from Nigeria to bring lots and lots of food. Infact, the only thing I ask from my mom is to send me Nigerian food as I am a picky eater and barely eat American. Most of the time, I don't spend up to a $100 on groceries a month when I'm in Arkansas cos its only me and I have almost everything I need for food. All I get is cereal, veggies (spinach and those peas and stuff), chicken or beef, and some other stuff.

I will suggest you buy those things at Walmart or Kroger (if you have those around), and buy them in bulk, you get, more value for your money that way. Don't go to places like Vons or Safeway, things are more expensive. If y'all have those Mexican grocery stores around, they're your surest bet. Groceries are cheaper there and the food is somewhat similar to African food. I spend less than $100 shopping for a whole month at those stores and gosh, everywhere will be filled by the time you're done shopping with $80

Best of all, know the stores that have the cheapest prices on different items so that you can clock in some awesome savings. Although I need to warn you that it's a pain shopping for groceries at different stores without a car but I tell you its worth it. Like sometimes, Vons sell red bell peppers for 3 piece a dollar, while walmart has their's for $1.58 a piece, but I also won't buy water from Vons cos a pack of 24 Aquafina costs almost $8 while a 32 pack of the same brand costs less than $5 at walmart. See how much you can save by buying bell pepper from Vons and water from Walmart. cheesy cheesy It can seem inconsequential but if you're an heavy shopper or eater, you will actually save quite a few bucks. By the time you've done grocery shopping for three or four months, you'll know which stores have the best deals on which item and know how to plan your shopping. Goodluck grin
Folks, this timeless piece from my sure sister, MsNas, will come in handy. You know, when one is talking abaot food, it is not kaind ov a jokin sturvs. **In Falz's voice.**

But those student loans dey scare me especially those that take thousands to study history or liberal art. If I'm taking such loans it has to be a competitive program.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and I'm really glad I stumbled across this forum.
I've just gone through some of the previous discussions and they've been really enlightening. Getting a US student visa from Nigeria seems to be even more difficult than getting admitted into a US school in the first place.

I have a few questions (for any one in a position to answer):

Thanks.

To add to what you wrote.

--Indian students are one of the most dishonest students you'll ever find in America.
--They come to grad school with stellar Statement of Purpose, great results, absolutely stunning test results but they fail in class woefully.
--All the professors know them to be cheaters. Hardly any semester goes by without them being involved in cheating and exam malpractice. They cheat in almost every exam, test or homework. They are always cheating.
--They are the worst people on earth to live with. They bring roaches and bedbugs everywhere they move into. Very dirty beings.
--They are always tricky and think they can outsmart you. Rent out a room to one and you'll see them bring in 5 squaters.
--They always smell like they haven't had a birth in days. extremely dirty.
--You'll see 15 grown Indian adults sharing a 2 bedroom apartment while only 2 two people signed the lease. Lying to the property owners.

I can go on and on. The idiot has the gall to come on a Nigerian forum and insult Nigerians and stupid Nigerians are edging him on. To the Nigerians who think those Indians are white, I sorry for you. Some of them are darker than us and it pains me that those idiots come to Nigerians and harrass our citizens. God help any Indian, Paki, Chinese or anybody I see anytime I visit Naija and tries that rubbish with me. angry
My thoughts! sad Make any Indian, Paki, Chinko, Nepali, etc. tell me nonsense for Nigeria... Those folks are nothing! Nothing!

I don't even know if it's good enough for a GA. I'll have to ask the schools.

Take my advice: IELTS is better to an extent in my opinion (paper based, British English, u have the opportunity to review ur answers and make corrections, etc). My IELTS score was 8.0 overall and I heard the lekki ets centre is better than that ilupeju jkk cos of noise. Distraction and all. Not making up excuses but... anyhow sha. Moving on.

Difficult to pick one. Each one has/had what he is/was good at.

OBJ: Insecurity wasn't prevalent. Great touches of machiavellianism that was needed to govern a country like ours. (He kinda kept us safe)

Yar'adua: Modesty, calmness and sustainable ideas.

GEJ: Repositioned our economy, made it the first in Africa; great democratic principles.

GMB: Probably after his tour of our planet and he discovers a new continent to be explored, he will be the greatest of all. So far, he is performing below expectations.
