AreaFada2: Well, every civilization has some myths. The very smart Egyptians, Greeks and Romans had theirs. Be it Horus, Amun, Hercules, Romulus or whatever.
In Benin we also knew that kings have some myths that surround them. Just like the golden stool falling from heaven in Ashanti kingdom.
Progenitor of Edo people was a man called Idu. That is the consensus.
He was later deified as "Erimwindu". His shrine is in the Palace.
One of our neighbours the Igbo still call Benin Ndi Idu. Children of Idu.
Idu children become Igodo with many quarters. Various quarters had a senior man or Odionwere. So Odionwere of various quarters became the gerontocratic elders council. A leader of this council became the first Ogiso. So it was initially rotatory upon death of one Ogiso.
Oliha, Edohen, Ero were elders by the time Ogiso changed to hereditary. Maybe Ezomo too. To get support for hereditary Ogisoship, I believe it was Ogiso Ere who offered those elders, his Co leaders hereditary eldership or Odionwere. Later to be called Uzama with others like Eholor Nire, Oloton and crown prince/Edaiken added.
With an oath that Uzama must ensure hereditary obaship and Oba must ensure their children get their inheritance too. To fulfil that oath at Erimwindu, led by the Oliha, the Uzama must crown or at least be present when the Oba is crowned at night. They are among the very very few allowed to be present at coronation. How did ogiso change to obaship then If indeed as you illustrated if indeed ogiso existed then they were humans claiming divine royalty but not to forget, The earliest document from the Europeans recorded on benin describing the ogiso rulers ruling in the time of no sun or moon The ekaladeran history i believe never had any connections with eweka But how did the ogiemen treaty come about if indeed ekaladeran story ended at ughoton as stated in 1903 |

AreaFada2: Did you even read my post at all? Where did I say they came from the sky? How do elders from various quarters of Igodo, all descendants of Pa Idu, come from the sky? At least take your time to read before you comment. The English have the legend of king Arthur. But they also now know the likely origin of Britannic tribes from DNA. Not to mention English that came from Germany and Denmark to replace the Romance.
But it has not diluted the popularity of Arthur legend even though nobody believes it's true. You said the leader became ogiso (sky kings).abi does ogiso have another meaning again or maybe ogiso was the name of the oba Ermwrwidu you mentioned possibly was an oba And nothing more |

AreaFada2: OK. Put your own version here. Because I grew up in a house with scholars in Edo history. I have mentioned this years ago here already. People who actually write the books. Debunk my version with a better version.
I will also refer you to a young scholar tutored by the best Scholars of Benin history. Among Palace chiefs. In my case one now a Palace chief and an uzama chief descendant.
I do not care about any other person when writing what I know to be the truth. This is separating facts from fiction. My version is far more real.
Prove that you know it better. I don't mind flying into 9ja to prove it. Then oduduwa history should be believable by you too because he indeed also came from sky If we africans can't still separate myth from truth then we will still be producing by government If the rulers were not referd to ogiso i would probably had believed that there was transition between those rulers to the oba dynasty but for that single reasons they named the rulers ogiso has already singled it out There is a benin myth we were thought in school On how the cloud use to be close the earth and was so close to the ground that ine could stretch his hands and touch the clouds snd the clouds grew yams and if you needed to anything just reachout and take the food from the cloud, but it was forbidden not to finish what you took, a woman took yam from the cloud and couldn't finshed it, and the cloud vexed and went up high this is one of the benin myth Even if you have benin scholars at your reach them telling stories doesn't equate to validity, No one was present the time d ogiso ruled so when cant validate for anyone as telling a correct history even if from the palace, we can only gather information and draw valid possibilities from history |

but personally I would believe that your that it could be true that ikalederhan ended at ughoton but that's a topic for another day. but if you believe ikalederham existed as a prince before him been betrayed don't you also think there was a king ? because to be a prince your father most be a king.
history is lovely when done constructively not insulting each other trying to prove worth. Ekalderhan was a prince an is father was an oba Not ogiso i dont believe ekaladeran story should even be related to eweka oba Erediauwa was the one who twisted ekaladeran history to explain thd origin of eweka, Ekaladerhan son probably left ughoton to later fight evain Assiciating it with the origin of eweka is wrong, Eweka history is simple he was the guy who organized the benin kingdom, probably displaced the corrupt feudal lords who ruled the various benin clan, and maybe those feudal lords may have nicknamed themselves sky kings, you should also understand that during the reigns of some benin earliest obas some part of benins were still independent I want you to take benin history as an hobby start going deep i bet you, by yourself, you will see your errors, if you like this to debate TAO11 she will shame you, because she knows the benin history better than you, If i may ask how many benin foreign and local historian do you know, Am telling benin history from a research and possible narrative, deviod of myth benin were made of 55 families coming together under one ruler, called oba, probably eweka, ekaladeran history should not be associated with that of the origin of eweka, ekaladeran story ended at ekiogba treaty dont mind the spellings |

first of all I love a point you raise that "they ruled in a time of no sun and moon" so I really believe you understand figure of speech and as a result I will also believe that you will think deeply That the word sun and moon is referring to the total dark age of Africa as the European will also say.
if you say no tribe still call it Igodomigodo it means that innerly you believe That it was once there that is why you made use of the word STILL and for the one that once called it Igodomigodo, the Benin people called themselves and are still calling themselves till date please observe very well if you are in Benin,. and for that of other tribe they have their various way of calling Benin e.g Urhobo "aka",agbor "idu" , Ancient Ondo and Ekiti "Ado" etc the only tribe that don't have what they call Benin are those that didn't come in contact with them.
The recording of the obas are done with various items and in parables and in the palace of the Oba of Benin we have what we call Ukhure nikaro (hope you understand it meaning) representing each Oba that have ruled. so IGODO,ERE,ORIRE,ODIA,EFESEKE,ETEBOWE, up to OWODO are all ogiso that ruled Benin during it dark age.
The Oba system came through Ikalederhan the last son of ogiso Owodo who was banish courtesy Esagho to be killed please to cut it short he survived to Uhe and became king and all the rest ok. ? and at the end the son coming back to rule. you see I know my history and I don't argue with people in order for them to believe me as you constantly do with TAO11.
As for Agbado I will beg you to ask any true Benin historian or research yourself to confirm what market is the first known market I'm benin. Buttressing: the word Agbado mean "trading together" a name derive from the complete coming together of the people. I see you are trying to twist and turn The European document didnt use any figure of speech there, all they did was to repeat what the benin had told them, the ogiso ruling in the times when they were no sun or moon on earth.... If there were to use a fiqure of speech it would be called darkage meaning times of little knowledge, 2) agbado has nothing to make it identify it was made in the ogiso era than oral accounts, which could be altered to fit into what they needed to tell to pass an information, but how do we tell agbado was truly established by ogiso, is there anything unique that makes ogiso market, Note am trying not to use archeological samples on benin on this argument because if i do, this discussion we be long over before it even started If there is need be, i will have to bring it, 3), idu, ado and the others are abbreviations of the world edo and not igodomigodo, if there was to be an abbreviations for igodomigodo it will be Igodo, godo, odo and not what the other way round 4) are you aware of the first ekaladeran story giving in 1903, or are you just reciting the one modified by oba Erediauwa Ekalderhan story ended at ughoton, probably since he was of royal blood is son eweka rose to fight for his stool, and became oba eweka, not changing any tittle, because oba has always been the title The screenshot didn't say ekaladeran escaped to uhe that was oba Erediauwa addition for his supremacy battle with yorubas Please my edo brother when we are discussing, oral traditions is allowed but backed them up with written documents and evidence, oral account is not just enough or even archeological findings Like you claim agbado market was formed during the ogiso era, do you have prove to it, or written document that can atest to it a written document as old as 200yrs old , probably the benins told the Europeans same thing during their trade, because i dont see anything to attribute that market to sky kings who ruled during the time of no sun or moon Just as you agree that there were ogisos same as ghostwon a benin like you dont believe that shit, same as i, Do well to prove us wrong.....

Etrusen: bro I have no time to argue with you because I have always read some of your argument with Taoa11 and others but I have some few question for you if you believe the ogiso is a myth
why do we have Ogiso market just like Oba market in Benin
tell me how was the Ere deified to god in Benin just like sango
when was Benin called Igodomigodo and what monarch ruled
it is obvious that Benin was already settled before Oba monarchy tell me then which monarchy
do you know that the two most oldest market in Benin is Agbado and ogiso markets?
look I really understand why you believe it's myth but the only part that is myth is saying that Igodo fell from the sky which is obviously not possible but that doesn't mean it was not there. just like my fellow compatriot " iyi Eweka and others I have dedicated most of my time into many Edo cultures both physically, theoretically up to this date. although personally I will not stress my self to elaborate if you don't want to agree but please answer those question constructively I don't mean argue, rather answer the question and ask any question if you wish. thanks for your time gregyboy you are noticed Tell me my edo brother, which benin research have you done, because the research i see you carried out was on pure oral benin history..... You believe on the Oduduwa craps right..... Ok Ogiso were sky kings which you think their of origin may have been false but you still insisted they ruled, when the name actually says says rulers, So you mean sky rulers came to rule men and they became mortar and died then oromiyan came to replace them as oba. You be yoruba man stop pretending as an edo person Agabado market is the oldest market how did you come to this evidence oral accounts i guess, how do we know the oral account is correct have there been any archeological evidence stating so, or you just want me be to believe in the oral account because it says so, abi What if ere was called an oba not ogiso, Is there any tribe who once or still refered to benin as igodomigodo Because history also made it know that eken who ruled uselu in the early 1800Ad had to be killed by the oba of benin to fully extend his rule to uselu, meaning not all benin were united 200yrs ago not leaving udo behind Not forgetting The Europeans also documented that benins believes the ogiso had ruled when they were no sun or moons So what happened to ogiso and how come the oba in benin |

We should also learn to separate myth from truth particularly we the new generation
The ogiso ruled when they were no sun or moon,
The ogiso story is a benin mythical story of their origin,
It was always oba we had as rulers dont just do copy and paste
We keep telling stories with myth attached to the truth, that's why the benin-ife myth can survive
Ogiso were mythical stories told to make the empire look old, the benin migrated to this region Long ago from the niger benue regions, and they All once lived as different clans till, probably eweka the first, organized the various autonomous benin settlement as a kingdom, even through out history some benin villages were autonomous like uselu, udo, it took later obas to conquer them through war to bring them full under benin...... |

Gregyboy Dont mind her she is so desperate, that statement she is quoting was altered by the author to possibly explain what he thought Roupell's meant, As far as 1897 when Roupell's gave the kinglist there nothing like eweka coming from ife.... To find benin..... And all a sudden in 1903, eweka came from ife If that quote was not altered why did ryder who wrote in 1969 not consider the quote, when he used ryder kinglist to prove benin-ife had no connections That quote from 1903 was falsely altered and misinterpreted to support the authors view point Ryder's in his article didnt mention any quote of Roupell's from 1903 why? Anyway Etinosa1234, lets assume ryder must have skipped that qoute of Roupell's the issue is in 1823 a different story of the birth of eweka was different 1823,quote a white man came to displace the ogiso who were ruling and they slept with ogiso daughters and eweka 1, was born Benin had always considered eweka as their first king so eweka history was always told to suite the prevailing situation In 1903, i doubt, if eweka11 was even in the palace, according to an article i read eweka11 was called from his mom village to come ascend the throne in 1914 he had already thought the throne will be nullified by the British, So who gave Roupell's that quote of 1903 Roupell's informats of 1897, consisted of some priest, esekhure and some jujumen, this people never told Roupell's about eweka coming from ife Why 1903, if the quote was not altered somewhere, by the man who quoted it, in his article, why did ryders not considered Roupell's 1903 quote in his article The point is from 1475 to 1897, was there anything writing to give a clue between benin-ife connection, the 1823, would have settled the benin-ife connection, once again ife or the newly invented oromiyan was never in the quote TAO11 stop fighting the linking of benin-ife was a new invention to falsely unite both tribe through a false history the moves was taken by the benins, we dont give the yorubas the blame for it So get your ass and accept your humiliation because your desperation has finally consumed you, you sorted for the truth, you have seen it, but you dont want to accept it, because it wasn't the truth you had expected....
