There has never been any excavation at the Oba of Benin's palace.
All Benin bronzes which are now in museuls in europe and america were the furniture of the Oba of Benin. So whomever is peddling a "sculpture of ooni of ife excavated in Benin palace" is a bloody liar. The only excavations in Benin city which I am aware of were about the walls.
Suzanne Prester Blier is one big idiot who seems to just print whater the yoruba telle her as fact.

Tao11 seems shy i would help her

She brought this image below from a yoruba foreign author biller, blier is a foreign yoruba author one of her specialty is on ife history, jusy the way we have afc ryder a foreign author too who specializes on benin history

I posted afc ryders work as my screenshot above him discrediting benin ife relationship

On the othet hand biler has accepted and probably tries to find way to belive on the oral history benin and the yorubas have told about oduduwa sending his son oromiyan coming to benin, but one thing about blier is her desperation to connect both history even with illogical points or false point

Now the images points out a benin sculpture found in ife, in bliers work, and yet when we check on net to find the details, or how it was found in ife we get lost, and seem non existing

I have also begged tao11 to also share the direct referencing to the book or share the pdf to get further details she seems not to have replied me

So its eithet Tao11 is desperate to falsefully connect both tribe or blier is desperate to connect them and sell her books

Anyway you all can do the research yourself on that sculpture

Am a free thinker if you dont mind

Please i really need this debate, to be loud,

I want every tribe to be present to witness how we unfold the myth

Etrusen is benin

OmoOlofin / tao11 is yoruba( lagosian)

I am benin and live in benin

It would also be better if we havean ife man present too

But anyway we can with any yoruba

So why the silence are these people now scared to defend what they belive in

Both people believe it existed
Culture › Who Can Prove Benin-ife Myth On Oduduwa With Archeological Fact by gregyboy(op):
If the yorubas or benin can prove this two tribe meant im the psst pre 1800

Come here and prove it

We know the benin and ife agreed they shared connections with oduduwa and they once had a connection but it seems that the connection benin
-ife had didnt even carry a nearby village along and in benin the relationship looks false, and om written record it seems non existing and not even to say archeological fact

Maybe both the yoruba and benin played us with the non existed myth, maybe it was done for political benefits who knows

So we are waiting for someone to bring fact and not just oral accounts

I believe the benin oduduwa myth was told in the late 1800 for political unity and it was really not historical like we all thought

I think everyone deserves to know the truth
Be it igbo, yoruba

So if you're benin like me come out and support what you believe or better still you can watch while we debate

As for me i will challenge the palace on this very topic

TAO11 please i give you the honor to comment first please no oral documents from both benin or yoruba should exceed 1897, but archaeological fact can span till this this very moment is allowed

Balogunodua

If this thread ends,

We can deduce some known fact

If there was really no Benin-ife connection the possibility are

1) the title oba is indigenous to benin since oromiyan really didnt come to benin from ife and the title oba had probablh found is ways into, yoruba vocabulary through benin terrritorial, expansion

2) the supremacy battle would now cease to end

3) it would, unveil us to the fact that few people can hide the truth from the masses if need be

But if reverse is the case

Then ife sovereignty over benim was, indeed true facts and the title oba, was from yorubas

I just believe we shouldn't debate like people who never visted school this fact and materials are readily available for our debate with no stress no free off charge and yet we disgard them for no reason just to settle a non cognitive and fallacious debate to uplift our tribal ego

Moreover, although you clearly have no iota of clue as per what you intend on “Yoruba”, aka “Yarriba” (in Arab and Hausa pronunciation), and aka “Youriba” (in European pronunciation); aren’t you aware that the actual baptizing took place early in your history when an Ife prince named an entire ethno-linguistic sub-group into the name they’ve clung to till date as a people: Ubinu — Ibinu — Ibini — Bini — Beny — Benin.

More than that, didn’t the same Yorubas march into your Benin Kingdom and maimed and slave-raided without any restraint?

Yes, they did and this should remind you of the exploits of the Yoruba military commander Aje (from Ibadan).

Notice that unlike your Benin accounts of alleged exploits, this account comes from your own people themselves as documented by the late R.E. Bradbury during his ethnographic field work among the Binis and Edo-speaking peoples.

Lastly, one key thing which is very perceptible and very consistent in your comments (apart from blatant lies) is your sheer jealousy for Yoruba people’s education. grin

It drives you insane and you couldn’t even hide it. But Yorubas for sure aren’t the source of your illiteracy — you should always be reminded of that.

Chillax. I'll post three entire versions, free of ambiguity. There was a war with Benin in the time of Osemwede (called Osomadi in Asaba traditions). Asaba people fled and later returned to their land, after the army of Benin left (I'll post this too, if I find it.) This whole talk about migrating from sovereignty, etc etc, due to wars, etc...sounds like an allusion to that war in Osemwede's time than to any claim on the part of Asaba to have been of Benin descent.

Northern Nigerians still retain Arabic words, phrases and habits in 2020. Means very little.

Many ijebus only know their history as yorubas thanks to the awujale and other ijebus that decide to dig deep to know our history. I will let you and your remaining historian that decide to turn blind eye to facts continue with your agenda.

Before Oduduwa came to Ilè Ifè from Oke-Ogun, there were 13 autonomous villages in Ifè all headed by Obas, e.g. Obatala, Obalufon, etc.

The first Oba of Bini was Oranyan, a descendant of Oo'dua, before Oranmiyan, Bini was governed by the Ogiso.

The above logically proves that the titling of the position of an Oba in Yorubaland predates that of Bini

The position 'Oba' is a pure Yòrùbá word. It's direct translation should be Governor or Controller/Administrator.

O = The one/person that does something (a continuous tense)
Ba = Perch or Control

I just have to drop this comment before history gets distorted as usual.

The full position is called Oba T'ó Ba L'órí Ohun Gbogbo = The Controller that governs all things.

Then the position has titles. E.g The Controller of Oyo is referred to as Alaafin (Alaafin l'oruko oba ilu Oyo).
Alaafin = Title
Oba = Position

The truth is yoruba history cannot survive without benin history by it side, benin oba agreeing to be one of oduduwa sons in early times for political gains was the biggest achievement yoruba ever had

Samuel johnson called the oba of benin, king of benin while he called other yoruba kings by their title

Why did he do this,

So he wont sound foolish calling the king of benin oba, and yet still use the word oba as a generic term to adress yoruba monarch

Can't you Google who Obatala is before you start saying he and others are rubbish? I'm not going to insult you and your for fathers...

I'm just asking you since you understand Yoruba language more than us to tell us Yoruba's word for king or ruler since every African group has a word for such.

To help you:

Noun: Oba = king

or adjective(as in Oba awọn Ẹiyẹ, Eranko, Eniyan, etc)

Verb: Ba = reign (to reign, rule)

Clause: to/ti o ba ( to be in charge, etc)

Tell us Yoruba's word for king oga if the above is Bini and stop repeating lies and what you don't understand. TAO11 already gave earlier documentation of Oba in Yoruba even if you don't believe in oral tradition but Italy...

Go to Oba palace and ask if whether he's great grandchild of Oranmiyan of Ìfẹ. He will be in a better place to educate you not me
You still want to push it,

You have to first prove if ife and oyo had connections, in the past, like father and son connection

If you can prove it, then you have to shut up on the benin ife talk

The last i check alafin was claiming he was higjer than ooni

So the issue of oduduwa sending oromiyan to benin is already defeated

Samuel johson at 1897 also claim benin was second to last born to the mythical oduduwa
