Beautiful mamas,good evening oooo.
Hope we are all doing good.
Pls,i have questions.
1.how do i stop my lo from choking while sucking?
2.rashes!,rashes!!,rashes!!! At first,i thought it was the baby oil,i stopped but it continued.i thought it was heat too,but no,heat cant cause this much. Moju powder dries it up but it appears after a while. Google is seriously confusing me about diff types of rashes.
3. Is vaseline the blue seal good for babies?i ve cussons lotion but dont know if it is a contributing factor to the rashes.
4.mummy liftedhands and helovesme,it looks like i dont know how to wear my baby the pampers baby dry cos mine leaks at the top bum bum when he poos.help!
5.watery bloody form still comes out from jajana,is it not taking too long. Birthed 9th june.
6.let me stop here for now.lol
and all mamas.
Thanks
1. Make sure his head is in a raised position while sucking. Remove your nipple from his mouth say after every 2-3 minutes of sucking. Your milk must be flowing really well (like an ice cream fountain) which is the reason why he's sucking with so much rush and passion.

2. Stop the baby oil. Get original imported coconut oil instead.

3. Original Vaseline blue seal is very good. Stop the lotion. Replace it with original imported coconut oil.

4. Are you sure the nappy is his right size? If the nappy is not his right size, there will be leakages. Go a size lower and see if the leakages will stop. My son is almost 11 months and he's been on size 4 pampers since he was 7 months.

5. It's perfectly normal. It can continue for as long as 2 months. You are tired of wearing pad abi grin. Pele. Endure. It will soon stop.

6.

My 2weeks+ baby vomitted for 3 - 4times before daybreak, what can i do to help him.

N.B: he was circumsized 2days ago and have been giving him paracetamol, but he usually spit or reflux after the drug.
Take him to the hospital ASAP.

Circumcision does not result in vomitting.

Babythug. You haf come again oh. grin grin

Well, I'm not a fan of feeding babies with "complex carbs" like semo, amala and the lot. I feel such meals should be introduced after 12 months. This is my personal opinion and thankfully my hubby shares the same opinion.

I have once tried a puréed combo of potatoes with Titus fish. My son liked it the first time but didn't fancy it subsequently. For some reason, the combo had a very strong fish smell and this was because I used the fish stock in preparing the combo. What I do now is give him boiled/mashed salmon as a midday snack.

At this stage, I'm all for healthy eating. Various fruits (banana, cucumber, raisens, strawberries, blueberries, grapes et al), various vegetables (carrots, sweet corn, green peas, cauliflower, broccoli, leek, et al) and "healthy/simple carbs" like Irish, plantain and sweet potatoes. In addition to this - different baby cereals. As a treat, he gets the occasional baby yoghurt.

I didn't introduce boiled pasta and rice till when he was 10 months old although I introduced him to baby rice (with mashed banana).

Besides, I can't pack black amala for him to take to nursery na grin

AlphaHandMaiden. thanks for sharing.

Cling film ? i have learnt something new. i will use it over the weeend to store some of his meals. i just hope myself and my son have the patience to wait for it to defrost lightly before peeling off the film. cheesy grin

sweet peppers. . . . . my son is fed this occassionally at his nursery but i am yet to prepare it myself at home cheesy grin i will give it a try this weekend. do you just boil the sweet peppers or grill it?

beans. . . . my hubby won't allow me try this. he insists our son might end up feeling bloated with gassy tummy, et al. so i have added beans to the ever growing list of meals he will try when he is older than 12 months.

i gave my son shrimps yesterday and he loved it. i got some shrimps (with the shells on), boiled them, peeled off the flesh and gave him the rest. it was a huge hit.

Spaghetti with chopped/boiled chicken breast and a dash of butter is also a hit. cheesy cheesy

@mamas I m trying to go d natural way wt my 6month old. I ve made pap wt guineacorn and millet and he s nw taking that one. What can I prepare wt Irish potatoes? I bought some today. if I boil and mash, what can I add to make it palatable for him to eat. What else can I gv him. I pureed banana BT he didn't really tk it well. Thank u for ur responses.
6 and 7 months - all my son's meals were puréed. After 7 months, I moved to mashed meals (yam, rice, boiled plantain, et al).

I boil Irish potatoes or sweet potatoes and then boil a combo of carrots, green peas, sweet corn, cauliflower and broccoli. Toss everything into a blender and add boiled chicken and blend. I add little sunflower oil and place the puréed food in ice cube trays and pop them in the freezer.

Sometimes, I purée just Irish potatoes and carrots. Sometimes, it's just sweet potatoes and chicken or beef.

Sabi mamas, between ur pediatrician n leaflets prescription which shud one go wt? My pediatrician prescribed 5ml for my less dan one month old baby while on d leaflet 5ml is for 2years-7years.

Pls which or who do I go with?
5ml is a lot for a baby that age. Some meds prescribed for babies that age are as little as 0.25ml.

Neurofen for example is 2.5ml for any baby less than 6 months.

Do you mind sharing the name of the drug that was prescribed? Is it an antibiotic? What is the purpose of the drug? Is your baby really ill to warrant the doctor prescribing an higher dose?

I'm aware of cases where doctors prescribe a dose lower than what's stated on the leaflet. It's all down to the experience of the Doctor/the ailment that's being treated and its severity.

Goodevening my correct mamas, sorry for quoting this post, abeg make una help me torchlight this matter. Pls when can one stop bathing in the presence of my dd? She's 20 months and looks at me each time I'm bathing/urinating.
Hmmm. I personally do not think it's right and I think you should stop.

If you do not have anybody to watch over her, all you have to do is to have your bath while she is still asleep first thing in the morning.

If she is awake and your home is childproof, then you can leave her alone playing with toys while you dash to the bathroom for a quick "rub and shine" grin. I think children at that age should not be left alone unsupervised so any bath you are having should be done in max 5 minutes. Leave the longer bath time for when she's soundly asleep.

Sometimes simple things like giving your daughter a small pot with a wooden cooking stick (omorogun) for her to bash the pot with is enough to keep her entertained for some minutes and you can dash to the toilet to pee.

Sometimes it's inevitable not to have her around while urinating but try and minimise her presence.

Hmmm. Why not take her to see a peadrictrian? Since you've tried several things and the rash still persists, she might actually need antibiotics to get rid of the rash.

Secondly, wash ALL her clothing and bedding using antibacterial soap and/or rinse everything with warm water that has been diluted with dettol. It's pointless treating the rash on her skin when she's probably getting reinfected because the bacteria or whatever that is still on her clothing.

I wash all my son's clothing using ariel's antibacterial and then use the "extra rinse" option on the washing machine.

Some people might think it's overkill cheesy but I have never had to deal with a single rash since he was born.

My dear, pls don't get it wrong, 30ml of water is supposed to be one levelled scoop. So 3 levelled scoop is for 90ml and not 100ml.
My dear. I use 3 scoops to 100ml. I am happy with MY choice and that is what works for ME. 90ml won't fill him and I don't see any reason to start measuring one quarter or less than one quarter of a scoop. What matters the most to ME is that he is well fed, healthy, strong, not constipated and exceeding his milestones.

The amusing thing is that sometimes he guzzles down the entire 100ml and cries for more and other times he doesn't even taste a drop and I have to throw away the milk.

Urgent please, I will be back to introduce myself. Breastmilk not flowing. Baby will be 4days tomorrow, I have bought nan 1 but not sure how to measure and prepare the formula, pls help, my baby is starving.
Start by washing and sterilising his bottles.

Then boil water and fill a flask - this water will be used in preparing his meals.

Follow the instructions on the tin. The rule of thumb is 1:3. That is, one scoop of formula for every 30ml of water. For example, my son is currently on 100ml and I add 3 scoops of formula.

Start with about 20ml of formula and then gradually increase it.

Don't forget to also give him ordinary warm water so as to prevent constipation.

Formula was introduced due to lack of bm during d first 5days. + baby turned to drop weight. During our last weight check he drastically bounced back. I just don't like doing effect of formula on him(strong poop).
If his poo is too thick, then you need to change the constituency of the formula. I always go a scoop less than the recommended quantity. You also need to give him plain water to drink as this will prevent constipation.

i am asking these two questions because if the reason why you introduced formula was due to poor health (for example), are you much better now? does your milk flow well?

yes, its possible to stop formula and stick to EBF and vice versa.

you know when your baby is full when:
1)you remove your nipple/bottle and he does'nt cry
2)he sleeps off after sucking
3)he removes his mouth from your nipple/bottle
4)he doesnt suck even when the bottle/nipple is in his mouth
5)he gets distracted by light, sound, etc
6)he is all smiles, playful and engaging after a meal

@Mitchyy take him to d hospital asap, my baby had traces of jaundice he was placed on phototheraphy which cleared it within a space of 4days its might b a mild one and might clear via natural light (morning sun)kisses to baby hansel
this is the shampoo i am referring to.

no, 4 months is not too early. most muslims shave off their baby's hair with razor blade before the child is named, so 4 months is not too early - take him to a barbing salon.

I insisted that he should be checked but everyone around said if he has jaundice it'll show in his skin.
My mum got some herbs to use to wash his skin yesterday. She said it will clear the jaundice if he truly has it. She wanted to give him to drink but i and dh refused.
This morning i noticed if i touch his skin and remove my hand, it'll be yellow. Should i take him to the hospital for test and treatment? Mum doesn't want me to. Said the herbs is better.
This is my first child and i don't want to make mistakes. I just feel so bad that he's not okay cry cry cry
Take him back to the hospital ASAP and insist on seeing a peadrictrian.

Herbs for babies in my own opinion is a no-no. Their tiny organs are too fragile for these concoctions.

If only people know that these herbs are sometimrs responsible for the high mortality rate/unexplained deaths in babies.

My dear. Cut it all off and you will be amazed how it will grow back - full and healthy.

A friend had cradle cap for both her kids. I saw the picture of the second child recently and I couldn't believe it - very full Afro hair.

However, after cutting his hair you have to adopt a regime to encourage healthy hair growth. Wash his hair once a week. I recommend sebamed shampoo. Yes, it's slightly expensive but it's very economical. A little goes a long way and it will leave your son's hair soft and easy to comb. I have used the small bottle for almost 4 months and I still have about half/quarter left. On days you do not wash his hair, just rinse it with water or "wipe" gently with a damp towel.

Then get Shea butter and original coconut oil (cold pressed) and not the locally made one. Mix both together and apply it daily on his scalp.

I have adopted this regime for my son since he was about 3 months old and his hair is really full. I had to trim it a bit with scissors at 5 months (before i discovered sebamed shampoo) as I was struggling to comb it. I would have trimmed it again by now but the shampoo has made it easy to comb his hair although on non-wash days we both drag the comb small. grin

Maybe you should watch what you eat.

Are you eating too much sugary things, too much fruits, too much carbs? Try and change your diet and see if the poo will reduce.

I think 5 soiled diapers a day at that age is too much.

Best malaria drug for a breastfeeding mother... 5 month old baby.

Someone recommended Leonant dx.
Malaria in adults especially breastfeeding mothers should not be taken lightly. Please do not go with "word of mouth" prescription. Go and see a doctor.

The doctor will prescribe the most suitable malaria drug that's safe to use as you are breastfeeding. Do not forget that any medication a breastfeeding mum takes can easily find its way to her breast milk and the wrong medication could have adverse effects on a breastfed child.

Hello sabi mama, happy holiday.
Pls my ds 14weeks immunization was last Tuesday. When I got to the clinic, the security men said no clinic because of public holiday. Immunization is done every Tuesday and Thursday. Since there's holiday today too, I'll have to wait till next week Tuesday. Then D's will be 15weeks 4days old. Google says one shouldn't miss the immunization. I hope it won't have any effect. Really, nurses shouldn't be having holidays. I use SOS clinic center
Nurses are humans too like the rest of us and they need/deserve holidays.

Except for A&E, maternity and other critical departments, "basic hospitals" (GP surgeries) where basic healthcare such as immunisation are administered do not open 24/7.

Ideally, you should have planned the immunisation few days before she hit the 15weeks mark and just before the public holiday. Anyway, a few days late won't make any difference as you not technically missing or skipping her shots, so just take her there next week smiley

mama ekene, 6poos+ a day is much oh. thats officially diarrhoea in my own opinion.

i think you should watch what he is eating and cut back on any fruits, etc.

my son has only pooed that much once since i began weaning him at 6months. an overzealous nursery staff fed him with apple, banana, raisens, apricots. . . . all in one day. i picked him up at the end of the day only to be told he had pooed 5 times shocked shocked as OTC medication to treat runny poo for babies aren't sold at my end, i decided to try the 'salt and sugar solution' to see if it will work before taking him to the hospital.

i boiled water, allowed it cool down (warm temperature) and then added two tea spoons of salt and one tea spoon of sugar. i tasted it to ensure it wasnt too salty or too sweet, filled my son's feeding bottle and gave him to drink, i think he drank about 10ml or so and that was the end of the runny poo. i have suggested the method to a friend and it worked for her too, so maybe you should try it.

if however after using the salt and sugar mix the poo continues, please go the hospital. diarrhoea in babies should not be taken lightly.

in additition to watching his meals, hygenie is very important. this also applies to other mums that have been experiencing runny poo in their babies. it is important to ensure every water your child drinks/used to prepare cereal is boiled. this also applies to nestle water and any other reputable brand of bottled or satchet water.

baby's bowls, spoons, bottles, etc should always be properly sterilised after each use. 'rinsing' a used bottle or plate after use with hot water is not the same as sterilisation. sterilisation can be done on a budget - get a clean bucket with a cover, place all baby's feeding items inside it, boil water in a pot and ensure it boils properly and then pour the hot water into the bucket and cover it. most importantly, we must wash our hands with soap and water - before preparing our baby's meals and if possible after every nappy change.

my son is 9months +. he has got 4 teeth on his lower gum and 2 teeth already springing out on his upper gum and i have not had to deal with any 'teething poo' throughout.

tynnuhluv. i agree with AlphaHandMaiden. that is a nasty rash. have you taken her to see a doctor?

i think she is reacting to diaper/nappy or wipes or both. i will suggest you stop whatever brand of diaper/nappy/wipe you are using and try something else. you also need to change her diaper often.

i have never had to treat nappy rash for my son and even the free sample sudocream i received, i have never opened it. i have stuck to the same brand of wipes - huggies or pampers and i have also stuck to the same brand of diapers - pampers or mamma mia. now that getting him to stay put during diaper change is a battle, i have moved him to pampers pullup pants which i give 5 stars and i have said good bye to mamma mia. so look for a brand that suits your daughter's skin and stick to it. sometimes we think some certain brands are 'expensive' but when you compare the amount of money one will spend buying sudocream, drugs, etc treating one rash or the other, it makes no economic sense.

in addition to the ointments, coconut oil, et al suggested by AlphaHandMaiden, you should also use good ol' vaseline (original vaseline blue seal). after every nappy change, if possible, wash her bum with water and apply vaseline. i apply vaseline on my son's bum as oftern as i can after each nappy change. you might also have to change her body cream. if its not the cold pressed 'white' coconut oil, then its best you stick to good ol' vaseline.
