mitchyy:EBF baby or not. It's absolutely wrong to leave your baby in a "shop in a market" with a friend to go shopping without making adequate arrangements on what the baby should eat should he or she start crying or leaving clear instructions on what should have been done. The baby is 100% the mother's responsibility. That's one of the perils of EBF. you have to be with your baby every single time especially when outdoors. If a mum can't stick to the rules of EBF, then why go down that route and leave the poor baby to cry in hunger. Do not forget that this friend wasn't indoors at home/in a familiar environment. She was in your "mum's shop" and she's probably inexperienced and this is where your mum should have come in (if she was allowed to do so). She should have either carried the baby and comforted or tell the lady where to get bottled water. I'm guessing your mum decided not to do so since the lady and the baby are total strangers and these days where one can't trust anybody, I won't advice my mum or any mum to touch, hold or comfort a stranger's baby. I hope your mum seriously tongue lashed the baby's mother though. |
Liftedhands:Hahahahahaahaha. I can imagine how angry and irritated you were. Reminds me of a fellow that wanted to give my son Coca Cola (he was drinking it and carrying my son who was obviously interested in the bottle and made attempts to touch it). You need to have heard the way I screamed HELL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. ![]() I do not understand the craze/rush in exposing a child to certain adult food. These babies have a lifetime ahead to feed on these meals so what's the rush? my most recent visit to Lagos, even before my arrival, I had made it clear to inlaws, family, etc that my baby doesn't feed on certain solids, so on arrival none of them had the guts or audacity to preach to me on what to feed my son or even offer him any solids. Your own case is different and the lady deserved a slap since you were nearby and Ekene wasn't crying. She probably felt you are a posh mum and your over poshness is too much and wanted to cut you to size ![]() However in mitchyy's scenario, the mum left the baby to "go and shop" and the baby began crying seriously. The friend I'm sure must be a single and totally inexperienced in handling babies. E get some kind cry wey pikin go give that you will be confused and you won't know what to do. Thank goodness she didn't make attempt to breastfeed the baby herself. |
mitchyy:I do not think the friend has done anything wrong here. Why would a responsible mother leave her EBF fed baby without making arrangements on what the baby will drink whilst she is away? No formula, no expressed milk, no water. Did she leave instructions on what the baby should be given just incase the baby became hungry/cranky? In fact, she should be punished for child abandonment. Babies do not have an alarm clock to indicate when they are hungry or thirsty. Babies can get hungry at anytime. The friend had no choice but to do what she did as the baby was clearly hungry or thirsty. Better to give her water than to leave her crying herself into a fit or till she chokes on her tears. The only thing she should have done differently was maybe give her nestle water rather than sachet water. |
zimunachimdi:How many hours sleep does he get in total within a 24 hour period? You know what you should do for the next one week? Get a pen and paper and write down the time he falls asleep and the time he wakes up. You will be amazed to find out the total number of hours he sleeps in a day. It will also help you to know your baby's sleeping pattern and where he feels most comfortable to have a nap. Some babies love to sleep after a bath. Some are most alert after a bath. Some prefer to sleep between noon and 2pm, etc. Some prefer to nap on a sleeping mat/blanket as this guarantees a good long nap. Others prefer cot. For example, currently my son will not sleep for up to one hour in a cot during the day. He prefers the bed or cuddle cushion and on that he can sleep a good 2-4 hours. |
ellakj:Her nose is very congested. Get a saline nasal spray with a nozzle (picture attached). Once you use it in both nostrils, use an aspirator or your mouth and suck out all the mucus.
|
ambient:It's absolutely normal for his head to wobble at 10 weeks as he is yet to establish full head/neck control which doesn't happen till the baby is about 3-4months. It's very good she's encouraging him to sit as this helps his back muscles, neck, etc and also gives him the confidence. Just make sure that he is well supervised, comfortable and propped with pillows. He should NEVER be left unsupervised while "sitting" as he can easily tilt forward and fall. |
AlphaHandMaiden:Gorodom. Hahaha. I never did that hand sanitiser thing. My mum would have teased me to shreds. as she constantly teased me about acting like an overly health conscious paranoid new mum as I did some few 'crazy' things before and after I had my baby. For example, whilst visiting her, I once sterilised (in the steam steriliser) the ice cube container I wanted to use to preserve my son's meals when he started solids and the heat ended up shrinking/destroying the flimsy plastic the cover was made of . I never thought about using the sterilisers for tethers and co. Thanks for the tip and will use it for the next baby. I always went around with about 4 teething rings and if one is dropped, I pop it in bag and replace with another which I must admit can be a hassle. |
AlphaHandMaiden:I doubt if I can get used to the smell. It kinda lingers on for long and although it's claimed the smell and sterilising tabs/liquids do not harm babies, I refuse to believe jare. The smell just comes off as acid to me. Really @ bolded? So you sprinkle sanitiser water around your house? And here I was thinking I'm going rather overboard by washing all my baby's clothes with professional antibacterial detergent. ![]() Please do not tell me you are one of those mums that passes hand sanitisers to visitors or anyone before the touch or carry their babies ![]() |
zimunachimdi:1. Please see a doctor to prescribe the right drug to treat your malaria. Make sure you ask him (very important) if the drug is safe to use whilst breastfeeding. I ALWAYS ask this question before I use any drug and on a few occasions, my doctor whipped out a medical handbook to double check to see if the drug is absorbed into breast milk and what effect it might have on a baby. Better to be safe than sorry. 2. Same answer as question 1 3. Same answer as question 1 4. If your baby is 2 months old, it's too early to conclude he's "active". At this age, their eye sight is improving, same with their hearing so they are very conscious of their environment. Besides a 2 months baby doesn't "play". All he does is lie on his back and look around or "wave" his hands and legs. How's the environment where he spends most of his day? Noisy? Quiet? Do you feed on demand? How's his feeding? A well fed baby will sleep well after each feed and during the day, in a quiet environment, this can be up to 4 hours. What about the cot or bed or bouncer you place him on? Are you sure it's comfortable for him? Do you over warp him? Is the room airy? If he's too warm or uncomfortable, he will be cranky, restless and he won't sleep much. 4b. At 2 months, a baby should be getting a decent amount of sleep. I remember my son could sleep from say 8am after having his bath and fed full till about 12noon/1pm. Please prevent yourself and baby from Malaria. Yes, it's very possible if you are proactive. |
mitchyy:Pele dear. It's wrong to use spirit on any stitch - CS or not. Spirit is harsh and does not in anyway aid recovery. Go to any hospital and have it checked out. In addition take lots of fruits or vitamin C supplements (you can get 1000mg one a day tablets but make sure you lead the label/packaging to confirm if it's safe to use whilst breastfeeding). Vitamin C really helps with healing. |
Liftedhands:When I saw the spirit part I almost screamed. I can just imagine the pain she's been going through applying it on the incision. |
AlphaHandMaiden:Can't remember the brand to be honest but it was what I experienced with my niece. It put me off sterilising solutions/tablets and I decided that for me, it's a no-no. Not sure if "slimy" is the right word. "Soapy" or "slippery" maybe. And then the smell. ![]() |
|
mitchyy:You are not supposed to clean with the site with spirit oh. Just shower and pat the area dry gently. |
enkaydewdrop:I didn't feel any pain. Guess that's because of the sex style we adopted. It's normal to feel some degree of pain and tenderness 7 weeks post Partum. Don't forget that CS is a major surgery (even though doctors down play it ) and they've cut through layers of tissue, fat and muscle and then stiched it all back. |
Ijelex:Personally, I prefer electric. In 5-6 minutes, everything is sterilised. I do not like the way sterilising tablets/liquid smell. I also do not like the way they leave bottles, et al "slimy". |
naijababe:Not necessarily. The baby can bear any name the mum chooses to put on the birth certificate. It can be her maiden name, her marital name, ancestral name . . . Anything. Besides, you are allowed up to a year ( I think) or more to amend the birth certificate and change the baby's name if you wish. I won't be surprised if she used the real dad's surname and that was what arose suspicions from the council. |
alhajisocrates:There's nothing wrong with the formula she bought. Her baby is lactose intolerant (Google it). It means the baby cannot take any type of cow milk (even when he's much older and also as an adult because he's allergic to it). There are specially made lactose free formula that cater for such babies. |
kswag13:Looking at your write up (your use of English), I guess you were fed akamu at birth as its obvious you are academically dull. |
Jamean:Exactly. I have never and I will never be a part of the exclusive breast feeding band wagon. All this EBF thing is to clamp down on companies that were/are making billions in revenue from the sale of formula. Some countries even go a step further to regulate the prices of these milk and stop people from buying more than 2 packs of formula at once. For me, it's combination feeding (breast milk + formula) all the way. Funny thing is that people screaming WHO recommends EBF for 6 months will turn up their noses when you tell them the same WHO recommends breastfeeding for two years. If EBF is the magic mix as they claim, then why are kids being immunised? EBF should stop babies from getting measles, etc and all form of immunisation should have been stopped. |
janellemonae:The dude is a compound f00l and he's best ignored. It's obvious he's not even married not to talk of being a father. |
enkaydewdrop:nope, i am not kidding. different doctors, different stitches i guess. the stitch was covered with a waterproof material so i had my bath the very next day i got back from the hospital - (i spent one night in hospital). waterproof material and stitch was removed by the nurse during her home visit to check on me and baby by day day 3. i marvel when i read here about some moms being told not to have their bath for weeks/months after CS. |
mitchyy:Lmaoooo. I resumed "bumping and grinding" a week after my CS. ![]() |
zaynie:my dear, you are right. people need to start naming and shaming these hospitals and stop the culture of 'leave them to God'. in addition to this, mothers also need to seriously educate themselves on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), the tell-tale early signs of a sick baby, when to self medicate, when not to, when to switch hospitals and so on. |
MsPat:so sorry for your loss. may God comfort you and your family in Jesus name. Amen. |
^^^Aunty Chaircover saying it as it is and making a lot of sense on nairaland since 2006 |
Sighs! Now the "self employed", "start a business", "I started my business with 5 naira and now I make 5 million naira in a week", "create a job, don't wait for one" crew no go let us hear word ![]() |
You should state your brother's first name or the name he was addressed by Chioma? Why not go to her village and speak to the village head? He might be able to help you. Check on Facebook for "village associations". There might be a profile for people from the girl's village and they might be able to help. Edit: I made some searches on Facebook. Contact all these groups and stats your story. Someone might know her/remember she came back to the village from Lagos unmarried and with a son.

babythug:Congrats Hun! God bless you and your baby. Amen. |
Tojued:fever in a child of any age should not be taken lightly. this is the reason why doctors/nurses that know that their onions will recommend paracetamol before and after immunisation. at my end, no nurse will administer immunisation at 6weeks without confirmation from the mum that the baby has been given paracetamol. in a case where the mum forgot to do so (which was what happened in my case), the nurse will administer paracetamol herself. this is because once the fever creeps in, it can be hard to bring it down and what you have is a stressed/panicky mum and a cranky baby. doctors/nurses that recommend 2.5ml of paracetamol have their reasons. its better to use 2.5ml to prevent/stop the fever than use a lower dose and then have to use a stronger drug like neurofen to bring down the fever. I am the type that asks my doctors/nurses questions and this was the plausible explaination i was given to justify the use of paracetamol before and after. they also confirmed that it does not in anyway inhibit the efficiency of the immunisation. the main thing that affects the efficiency of any immunisation jab is how it was stored before use. such injections must be stored at certain temperature. how many hospitals in nigeria actually adhere to this? in addition to this, i always ask to be shown the immunisation bottle/injection - i check the name and the expiry date to be sure my baby is being given the right thing. although some nurses are proactive and will show you all the labels on the bottle without you asking. that said, have you checked your baby's temperature using a thermometer? if its still high, take your baby to the hospital. p.s. Calpol is a brand name of paracetamol just as you have Emzor paracetamol and the likes. |
IryNky:please DO NOT add sugar to her meals. what type of milk is she rejecting? formula or breast milk or both? how long have you noticed her drop in appetite? |
enkaydewdrop:Relax. The nurse is right. It's 2.5ml of paracetamol. I was told to give my son the same dose before and after his immunisation. |
