Also what do you mean by maintenence is was not ticked? During the visa/COS process, there is an option for the employer to tick that they will be providing maintenance fund for the employee. Which means the employee don't need to show proof of fund during the visa application process. |

Goke7: Very commendable, with the way the uk is running haywire, no matter the kind of visa you have it’s just advisable to get other visas. It’s what am doing too. I don't understand what you guys meant by get other visas? Having other visas (which in most cases are visit visa) will not save anyone from the UK immigration wahala if the time comes. You can't use those visas to immigrate or even work on those visas. I have a long-term US visa and Schegen visa (Swiss issued) yet they are absolutely useless for immigration purposes. Except you plan to travel and then turn illegal immigrant. |

Nazgul: The man is just worried that if you get married while in school, childbirth and other family issues might hinder you from concentrating on your studies, so to him it's going to be like a waste of his precious money. Cos what's the point of spending money to sponsor someone who might end up having 2 or more extra years? What kind of result would you come out with at the end of the day?
If you really want to get married and still go to school, you can meet him and iron out things with him. Promise him that you'll maintain a CGPA of not less than 3.5 per academic session. That if you fall below that, he can withdraw he's sponsorship. If he sees your determination, he'll go ahead and sponsor you. I am more interested in knowing what happened that you are thinking of starting school at 29? I know our circumstances are all different, but if you really value education that much, why haven't you pursued it for the last 29years? And where is that your relative all those times ? Nobody here will be able to give you the right answer, we don't know your personal circumstances, your motivation or even your suitor and relative's motivation. Sit down, had a deep reflection on what you want for yourself and what you consider the most important to you and go with it. |

Teedol: I was trying to say this few weeks ago but couldn't put the words together the way you have done it, probably cos I was at work and doing multiple things at the same time. Where I live so many Nigerians are home owners and living good lifestyle with the same healthcare job some are always running down on nairaland.
I have a friend whose service user lives with learning disabilities and complex care, he just told social service he will be terminating his contract with the said service user, they have been enticing him with a lot of money, yet this guy wont accept. I know a Nigerian big bro where i live who just built/remodelled a healthcare home with over a million pounds, some of us got here few months back but lucky to roll with "the people that know road" I don't think this is a fair comparison to be honest. You can't compare a business/service owner to an employee. Why I do not subscribe to the idea of belittling someone’s job or means of income as long as it's legit, HCA is also one of the least paid occupation on the skilled workers list, you only need to earn circa £20k to be eligible for sponsorship. So comparing those who own care services with those who work as an employee in the care sector is not painting a fair picture. The UK is a service economy and people who owns service/consultancy firms be it care, tech, recruitment etc are kings. |

Adebayo82: Good day my people. Please how can one response to a situation whereby child dependent visa expired before the new application was initiated. It expires on 13th of May 2023 and is not intentionally done but due to some financial difficulties. Currently, I'm on top of filling a new application to renew the visa for the children, and I got a stage in the application where is stated that provides "Evidence for not applying before your permission to be in Uk expired" what reason should i gives to convince home office. The rule of thumb is to always tell the truth. The Truth Only, it can be whole truth or half truth. If it's due to financial issues, state it but go further to explain if there is any exceptional circumstance that caused it (feel free to invent one here). Normally, you should've plan for it. but make a strong case. Also point out why it's not feasible for the kids to leaven the UK upon expiration of the visa. |

Aphrodite007: Sweetheart. Nothing annoys me more than someone’s who’s been lucky not understanding others pains OR making it look like others aren’t hardworking/lucky enough. I’m one of the most privileged and lucky Nigerians in the Uk, worked just 4 years here and on 140k all before 30 but I never act like others aren’t working hard enough or lucky enough or feel their pain. I’m the exception, not the rule.
Because I exist doesn’t meant others don’t. Because you can’t relate doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be empathetic/sympathetic neither does it allow you to discount the pain is the majority.
And for someone that steadily recruits my profession, 80% of corporate companies don’t sponsor due to fear or lack of understanding of the regulations. So unless someone is applying to the big 4 or top IT, NHS or govt.. there’s likely no sponsorship.
Ok.
Congrats on your 3 offers. No sweetie, I'm not belittling other people's experience. I made it clear in my post that I don't know if it's just me being lucky or if others are failing to do their homework. For a bit of background, I don't know many Nigerians in the UK aside from the ones in my school. Many of them that I speak with don't even have a clearly defined career plan and are always open to anything, which doesn't make sense to me, really. Most of them are doing their masters as a means to "japa" and not because they are truly passionate about the course and want to gain specialist skills in their area of endeavor. The UK has a very competitive job market, and the more specialized and niched you are, the higher your chances. You will really struggle if you are an average/regular candidate as an immigrant. Secondly, all big firms have sponsorship licenses, which means they can sponsor any candidate if they really want him/her. During all my interviews, I make it as clear as possible that my first option is the firm (I will give them reasons why I believe their firm and the UK in general will offer me access to the world). I then go on to make it clear that I am an international student and will not be able to stay back in the UK without visa sponsorship. I'm open to moving back home and continuing my stakeholder engagements." |

AgentXxx: You should help by stating your field as this matters a lot. Health and IT specialist are hardly found complaining of sponsorship scarcity. Funny enough, I'm neither in IT nor Health. My background is Sustainability ( Science-Policy Interface). The UK is a service economy and the world headquarter for consultancy. I believe there's massive opportunities for everyone. |

Loads of things are wrong with the system that me I can’t shout about because if naija was ok, I won’t be here in the first place!!
My recent annoyance (ignoring the cost of living) is that it seems PSV is a scam. Most companies aren’t a recruiting graduates on PSV simply cos they may need sponsorship eventually.. but how come care homes are giving sponsorship like pure water??
So experienced people that ran from naija due to end SARS/buhari will come here and their only career for the next 5 years will be care? Haba! (PS nothing wrong with working in care but some of us did it as students not a career path. I’m offended they are stealing peoples potential!)
I love you all, but UK problem, ike a gwosiri’m -sorry igbo isn’t my first language- (it sha means my power have finish). I really can't relate to the idea that firms are refusing to sponsor candidates. I came in last year September and by February this year I have received 3 offers from different firms with two offering to sponsor me. I don't know if I am just lucky or that other students/immigrants are failing to due their due diligence and instead chose care jobs as the easy way out. During my interview, I do try to make it as clear as possible that I'm unable to join them without visa sponsorship. |

Lolli2pop: Hi guys please important question.. a friend of mine got married in 2019 but she kept using her maiden name because she was too lazy to apply for a new nigerian passport that would reflect her husband’s name. Now she is about to finally apply for a change of name on her pass post since her passport is about to expire.
She has a uk brp in her maiden name.. can she continue to use this brp even after she gets a new passport in her husband’s name. If she can’t, can she apply for update of info on her existing brp card before her new passport arrives or does she have to wait?
Her biggest concern was if her new passport comes with her husband name nd she continues using the brp card in her name, when she travels outside the uk how would she prove to the border control that its the same person for both docs. Could this cause an issue? Has anyone been through similar experience? She don't need to prove anything, that's what biometrics is for |

dupyshoo: I agree that getting citizenship at birth is a bargain. However, the probability of getting the citizenship by birth is very low as you have to be in Canada already. To even get visitors visa in Canada, you have to wait for over a year as at the last time I checked. So how will you enter? Maybe through studies, which is not a walk in the park or through PR, which is also not easy and takes a lot of time and commitment. This means a lot of Nigerians will not even be able to get into Canada.
Instead of being ungrateful, let us try to make UK work for us. I have spoken to a lot of newcomers in the UK on how they can make the best of their stay here and develop themselves All what they want is to get a care job COS. Care job can most times be very hard and depressing. 5 years of your life doing care job!!! Delayed gratification can sometimes be better than quick wins. This is spot on! Many Nigerians just want the quick ans easy way out |

Is DBS same as UK PCC? I ask because I think they differ based on usage. DBS is internal but a PCC is for emigration.
The licensing body is specifically requesting for a Police criminal records certificate.

LeoDeKing: I disagree with this report.
Last time I checked, SE plays host to the highest number of billionaires in the world.
Based on ipob bureau of statistics, the SE has 970 billionaires per square centimetre. I am from the SouthEast and I can confidently tell you that this statistics is VERY CORRECT. However this does not mean that SE is the poorest region in Nigeria, it's just a reflection or how small SE is by landmass. The figure is obtained by dividing the total number of poor people by the total landmass. SE is by far the smallest region in Nigeria, I attached a map for clarity. One state in the North is bigger than all five states in the SE combined For example if you run this same analysis by state then Lagos state will emerge the State with the highest number of poor people per square mile. This is because Lagos state is the smallest state in Nigeria by landmass and yet one of the most populated state.

No issues, the 20hours work rule is not meant for all students, but for those on Student visa.
