Aphrodite007: No sweetie, I'm not belittling other people's experience. I made it clear in my post that I don't know if it's just me being lucky or if others are failing to do their homework. For a bit of background, I don't know many Nigerians in the UK aside from the ones in my school. Many of them that I speak with don't even have a clearly defined career plan and are always open to anything, which doesn't make sense to me, really. Most of them are doing their masters as a means to "japa" and not because they are truly passionate about the course and want to gain specialist skills in their area of endeavor. The UK has a very competitive job market, and the more specialized and niched you are, the higher your chances. You will really struggle if you are an average/regular candidate as an immigrant. Secondly, all big firms have sponsorship licenses, which means they can sponsor any candidate if they really want him/her. During all my interviews, I make it as clear as possible that my first option is the firm (I will give them reasons why I believe their firm and the UK in general will offer me access to the world). I then go on to make it clear that I am an international student and will not be able to stay back in the UK without visa sponsorship. I'm open to moving back home and continuing my stakeholder engagements." 3 Likes |

Aphrodite007: I really can't relate to the idea that firms are refusing to sponsor candidates. I came in last year September and by February this year I have received 3 offers from different firms with two offering to sponsor me. I don't know if I am just lucky or that other students/immigrants are failing to due their due diligence and instead chose care jobs as the easy way out. During my interview, I do try to make it as clear as possible that I'm unable to join them without visa sponsorship. 2 Likes |

Politics / Re: South-East Has Highest Number Of Poor People Per Square Miles - StatiSense by heroshark(m): 8:47pm On Apr 21, 2023 |
LeoDeKing: I am from the SouthEast and I can confidently tell you that this statistics is VERY CORRECT. However this does not mean that SE is the poorest region in Nigeria, it's just a reflection or how small SE is by landmass. The figure is obtained by dividing the total number of poor people by the total landmass. SE is by far the smallest region in Nigeria, I attached a map for clarity. One state in the North is bigger than all five states in the SE combined For example if you run this same analysis by state then Lagos state will emerge the State with the highest number of poor people per square mile. This is because Lagos state is the smallest state in Nigeria by landmass and yet one of the most populated state. 1 Like

Please my passport will expire on March 2024 (I have about 9months left) if I apply for renewal now will my old passport be canceled or I can still be traveling with it till the new passport is out. I have series of travel planned throughout the year and can't really afford to stay even a month without a valid passport. |

lightofjoy: No issues, the 20hours work rule is not meant for all students, but for those on Student visa. Once you've switched your visa you are no longer bound by the student visa rule, however you will be bound by the dependent visa rule which will probably be something like "restricted work and no recourse to public fund" |

Strata1716: Adding a cover letter will mean instant refusal. In some cases he might get a narrow escape if UKVI did not check his NI and work details, but if he add a cover letter he is self convicting himself. There is no reasonable and acceptable excuse to violet the rules of your student visa. before the visa was granted, I believe he presented proof of adequate funds to UKVI ? 2 Likes |

Quick question supreme mentors! Abeg if I have a valid visa in an expired passport will I be able to use it? I have a 5-year US visa and my passport will expire in March 2024, will I be able to use the visa in the old passport together with my new passport to travel or the visa because invalid as my passport expires! |

Stanley123147: You mean your partner not your wife. If you travel to Nigeria and reapply for a visa, the probability that you will be denied ranges from 0.51-1. And you can't get married in the UK if you are illegal. You case will be better if you have a child that is a British citizen if not marrying a British citizen alone will not suffice. 1 Like |

Digitron: That is not how statistics works my boss. 1000 is the optimal number of samples for a good survey. This is scientifically proven. Increasing the sample size will not significantly reduce the error. I have attached a picture that explains this better. If you have population of 100,000,000 using a sample size of 1000 is the optimal and feasible solution with just about 2.79% error. Increasing the sample size will not significantly reduce the error. The only thing you need to ensure is to make sure that your sample is inclusive and represent all demography . 4 Likes 1 Share

mactoni91: Tinubu still remains the jagaban ooo. Do not underestimate him. I personally think Him and PO remains the top two candidate. Tinubu will beat Atiku in some northern states, add it to the south west vote. PO is exceptionally lucky that Atiku, Tinubu and Kwankwoso will be dragging the north. Tinubu has SW, PO has SS and SE. The NC is a battle ground for the 3 candidates with PO having a fair chance. The NW, NE is for Tinubu and Atiku, with kwankwoso eating a little from the pot. All the same, this election will be one of the most dynamic election in Nigeria. May the best candidate emerge. |
