Romance / Re: Boyfriend Lied About His Age by IamDavid(m): 1:31pm On Sep 14, 2020
kingemaker:
Good morning my NL people.

I usually don't do this but I've been forced to create this thread because my friend (a lady) needs my advice on the subject.

She met this cool dude about two years ago, they started dating after 2 months or thereabouts and everything has been fine with them.

Dude has a good career and she's also doing very well for herself. A couple of days back, she ran into some of his documents and realized that she is 5 years older than him shocked she confirmed this via a photocopy of his international passport, WAEC certificate and Jamb documents; his DOB was consistent in all.

I advised her to confront him, at least to hear his own part of the story (because I'm aware so many Nigerians tend to reduce their "official" ages). But she insisted that that wasn't the case because she remembered when her boyfriend's elder brother in the US once celebrated his birthday with a cake with "**** at 29" inscription. She saw the photos on IG late last year and she was confused but decided to shrug it off thinking it could be a mistake.

As of this moment, she feels the dude must be hiding some other things from her, she's so broken right now.

I'll be expecting your input guys.

I don't mind if you help push this to the promised land.

Thanks

We need to be careful before we advise everybody to break up their relationships because of every mistake. There's a high probability that this guy is using a consistently fake age for his education and career. The lady should reason along that line and find a subtle way to ask her boo (her reaction should be like "so that's what you can't tell me...all the best for you grin "wink. The guy will regret not telling her earlier and will trust her more. Nobody's perfect o

Well, it will make it easier for the ones in Nigeria to get good jobs. Doctors aren't treated badly abroad too, so it's a kind of win win for the profession. Just that it's bad for the nation. Brain drain is real.
Family / Re: How Does An Average Nigerian Youth Escape Poverty? by IamDavid(m): 12:18pm On Aug 25, 2020
There are basically five ways to success.

1. Riding on the works of sponsors. (Rich parents and relative who are able, willing and ready to help you whether you are good enough or not)

2. Excellence. Even in this Naira country, excellence still gets rewarded. Study medicine and graduate, have a first class in a relevant course, be extremely good with your skills, etc.

3. Luck. Even if you do nothing, luck can still pick you. Examples abound. Someone got a scholarship abroad after a leaked seex tape.

4. Fraud.

5. Any combination of the aforementioned.

Choose responsibly and don't forget that above any rule or convention, God has the final say.

Pray tell, which church was that you left?
And the land, was it eventually purchased?
Modified: I hope the person who quoted me has seen the name and exact location of the said church. The Land was purchased. I don't know what you mean by "pray tell"
Religion / Re: BISHOP OYEDEPO: Is CAMA Policy Antichurch? by IamDavid(m): 6:32am On Aug 25, 2020
The government is not in the position to oversee religious organizations financial income and expenditures. Every fund received at the church, whether first fruit or tithe or offering, donation or development "levy" is freewill. The payer pays based on his relationship with God and his conviction. How is this the government's concern?

People shame churches all over the internet, yet, I've seen churches perform more charity than any other sect. Some churches print out their balance sheet at the end of every year, detailed, prepared by qualified professionals who has volunteered to do so.

Even in the worst case scenario, like the time a church I used to attend back then asked all members to empty their accounts to procure land for the church, is still hot enough reason to allow government's oversight. I simply left the church (More than half of us left). No noise. Some stayed without paying, some donated half of their account balance, I know some who dropped everything they had. All good.

I don't want to delve into the fact that the government in discussion is nothing to write home about. In fact, since it is coming from the "Nigerian Government" the whole agenda makes no sense.

No matter how cheap it is, when it reaches here, Nigerians will buy it up, increase the price beyond their people, then sit back to amass the money to buy houses at Banana Island
You're wrong. Our government is grossly irresponsible but no government will charge it's citizens for basics like vaccine. It's highly unlikely.

Vaccines are usually very cheap and sometimes free. $10 is too much
It's not free, it's just that in most situations, it's not the recipient that pays for it.

God bless you . Just last week In abuja , a medical doctor told me that he has built 3 structures with “ his experienced mason” and that engineers make Simple things complicated . I told him how would he feel if I compare him with chemists? He quickly changed the subject then went ahead to try to replicate what I did for his neighbour with his “experienced mason”.

This country has laws but there is almost no consequence for being lawless .
I couldn't agree more. The laws we have presently aren't the best but if we can enforce it in its entirety, we'll be shocked at our own progress as a nation.

There are too many quacks in the Nigerian building industry, and clients aren't helping matters too. As an architect, I literally force my clients to consult structural engineers in multi level buildings. Clients just want to cut cost, and they cite examples of their friends who have built such without engineers. We need to get used to "standards" in this country, else, we ain't moving no where. May the injured get well soon. Happy Sunday.

Politics / Re: Third Mainland Bridge: Lagos To Roll Out 600 Buses In August – Sanwo-Olu by IamDavid(m): 3:47am On Jul 26, 2020
I don't think this will solve the problem. More buses, more traffic on the existing roads.

But that's not the problem. The problem is Buhari who released Boko Haram members back into the communities of defenceless powerless citizens. I'm shocked by the news. It's worse than you think. He's not even pretending anymore. This is not even nepotism or tribalism, this is TERRORISM!
