These are examples of what people call prophecy. These are at best prayers and wishes. Prophecy is not commonplace, vague and directionless.
1. This year 2021, Nigeria shall be great. 2. those who obey and serve the Lord faithfully this year there are multiple blessings. 3. There will be outstanding testimonies for those who are thought to be barren and those who have been waiting on the Lord for fruits of the womb. There will be increase in multiple births. It is a year of joy for them. 4. It is year of favour and progress for the downtrodden;they will be elevated says the Lord Almighty. 5. Pray seriously for Nigeria against instablity.A shadow was seen covering the Nigerian flag . 6. Pray against increase in deaths among the perceived high and mighty this year.
On and on it goes. These are prayers at best, not prophecy. Except you have not seen or experienced real prophecy, then they can sell this one to you as gbanjo prophecy. |

petra1: 2 Chronicles 20:20 . . .Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
They are prophetic declarations .that is why they have to do it by faith. They are utterances under the influence of Gods spirit .
Romans 12:6 . . Whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith Jo my man, seems you just went to look for where they put faith and prophecy in the same verse without understanding what i said. We both know that Christians walk by faith and whatever is not of faith is sin. It is therefore implied that you obey God by faith, live by faith, preach by faith, heal by faith, minister by faith, sleep by faith, and of course prophesy by faith. This is different from having to believe a prophecy. While the prophet should prophesy according to the proportion of faith, if you believe or not, the prophecy is coming.(Of course you know the context of the definition of prophecy in this case. That is the context that the thread talks about and that most people understand it and most ministers put it out). And of course, believe God's servants means to believe they are genuine and from God. Not to be like kings like Ahab and the children of Israel who didn't believe the prophets to be God's servants but persecuted them. Their unbelief didn't affect the prophecies of the prophets. It seems it made the prophecies more graphic and powerful. In prophecy there is forthtelling (declarations) and Foretelling (Prediction) You seem to be mixing up the two.
Prediction may not require faith as you said . But making declarations upon a person or people under influence of the spirit is of faith and require agreement .
Paul and elders made prophetic declarations on Timothy at his ordination . And you could see Paul telling him to meditate on those words and do warfare by those prophetic words .
1 Timothy 1:18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare
1Ti 4:14 — 1Ti 4:15 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Making declarations over people is prayers and prayers require faith, that we are agreed on except for the word(prophetic declaration). The Bible does not call them prophetic declarations, you did. They are simply prayers. Of course, prophecy is not meant to be trifled with, despised or neglected. You take appropriate actions. This is different from you saying you have to believe them or agree with them. You agree with prayers(like Amen is an agreement example). If you get a prophecy that someone is going to die next week or be promoted next week. No need for believe or agreement for it to happen. God doesn't need anyone to believe He's going to destroy the world. The prophecy comes, people like Noah, Abraham and Lot take appropriate actions. When ministers say they have 42 prophecy or 12 or 31 or 1thousand prophecies for 2021. The general idea is this is from God to man. These specific things are to happen in 2021. But the point is that most of these so called prophecies are not from God but prayers from men to God, or worse still gambles that deceive the gullible. |

I challenge you nah, ask the commentator if she has never studied with JWs or read our publications before. I said i've noticed our Mark in her comment and you're here arguing, do you think people just jump one day and become JWs overnight like you Churchgoers who keep deceiving yourselves that some spirit call you? My friend, before someone fully decide to join JWs they must have studied with us for a lengthy period, so stop arguing blindly, that commentator has our mark on her comment! Imagine the folly of the question? Most people in Nigeria have read publications from churches and organizations due to what they call tracts evangelism. Christ embassy devotionals, Deeper Life magazines, JW awake and the likes are materials that we normally see people give on a monthly or even weekly. Claiming someone as your member or disciple on the basis that he read your publications is a new low in desperation. Suit yourself, like i said she's your GO's daughter. |

MaxInDHouse: Ask her nah! I use to be a very good friend of Churchgoers like you when i was learning from the real Christians, back then when i speak in the midst of Pastors they respect me for the efficacy. I kept hiding it from people pretending i just got the wisdom on my own because i don't want to loose the regard they were all giving me. In fact a branch Pastor in a popular Church wanted me to join his barish so as to assist in their ministry. All these ended when i began going out with my teachers in the ministry that's when they started condemning me even trying to refute everything they've been swallowing in the past all because they now know the source. Well i've known the truth and i will never again shy away from the truth so i want to help honest hearted and sincere individuals know the truth too. So don't argue over this, i've noticed the sign in her comment. petra1: Romans 12:6 . . Whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith What you call prophetic declarations is not prophesy, it is more of prayers and positive confessions. "It shall be well with you, you will not miss your way, this year god will favour you, you will not be stranded, somebody here will shed tears of joy. If you believe it shout hallelujah/amen." These are prayers FROM MAN TO GOD. You don't need to believe prophecy. it is coming whether you like it or not. Except you take concrete actions. But you need to believe when you pray. This is basic primary school christianity. That is why i said most people are babyish, because they still don't get it. |

If the God you are calling your heavenly father is the Creator of heaven and earth, how, then, could you say that the verse I quoted has nothing to do with him? Read carefully, i said "The verses you quoted has nothing to do with me and my Heavenly Father. " Where did I ask you who Paul was? When you say "Which Paul" and i ask you how many Pauls do you know and you still ask "Which Paul do you mean?". Either you are not serious or you are not serious. Where did I call you names? You said "Ihe efu!" When a nigerian resorts to the local language in an 'argument', 9 times out of 10, he is name calling or abusing. i know the word has to do with zero or nothing, so enlighten me if otherwise. Where did you answer my question bordering on whether you are a Christian or not? hereWhere did I say your "Father in heaven" was complaining to me? You said "how did you know he is not complaining? Did he tell you that? Are you sure we are talking about the same God?" Then you went ahead to quote Jeremiah in different versions as a sort of proof that He is complaining. Have you now seen why I said that you should go your way? Your actions speak louder than your writing, you don't seem like someone who wants me to go anywhere. |

petra1: It can still.be called prophesying but not necessarily predictions. That's where the critics are missing it . If a pastor speaks words over his congregation. " I prophesy to you today that mistakes is far from you"
It's a prophetic declaration. But not prediction There is no such teaching or practice of prophetic declarations in the New Testament. While it is not necessarily a sin, it is largely misguided too. When you say this is prophecy, 100 prophecies for 2020 or 2050 or whatever(which is largely Old Testamental BTW), the meaning is that you are SEEing as a prophet what GOD revealed to happen in 2020 or 2050. It is specific, not vague. "40 days and Nineveh will be destroyed", that is prophecy. "Paul will be arrested and bound in Jerusalem if he goes there", that is prophecy. It is specific and revealed by God, for God's glory. All the football punting and positive confessions like "It will be well with your family". That is not prophecy. That is at best prayer. If you like tap into it, like they say. It is not exactly a sin, but it is babyish and it is part of why we are where we are today as the body of Christ in Nigeria and in the world. Those gamblers that say things like "I see fire in high profile building this year. Many deaths But let's pray". They are just joking and not to be taken serious by anybody. They need to meet God if they really need the real thing, that one they are using is toy. It s not compulsory to be a prophet or to prophesy(in the general idea/definition). |

I am not even certain what point you are attempting to make here. i see it took you a couple of days and yet you are not certain. You should just leave it then. If i call you holy or devil, does that automatically make you one? Most of these people are misguided into thinking or saying what they are are doing is prophecy. And BTW, some are prayers and positive declarations like i said, not prophecy in the form you understand it. |

elated177: Where did you answer me? Where did I call you names? There are so many by that name. Which Paul do you mean?
Pay particular attention to verse 27.
Jeremiah 23:25-30
KJV. 25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;
27 Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord.
29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.
NIV
25 “I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’ 26 How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds? 27 They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship. 28 Let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the Lord. 29 “Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?
30 “Therefore,” declares the Lord, “I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me.
NASB
25 “I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, ‘I had a dream, I had a dream!’ 26 How long? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, these prophets of the deceitfulness of their own heart, 27 who intend to make My people forget My name by their dreams which they report to one another, just as their fathers forgot My name because of Baal? 28 The prophet who has a dream may report his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word truthfully. What does straw have in common with grain?” declares the Lord. 29 “Is My word not like fire?” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock? 30 Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the Lord, “who steal My words from each other.
NLT
25 “I have heard these prophets say, ‘Listen to the dream I had from God last night.’ And then they proceed to tell lies in my name. 26 How long will this go on? If they are prophets, they are prophets of deceit, inventing everything they say. 27 By telling these false dreams, they are trying to get my people to forget me, just as their ancestors did by worshiping the idols of Baal.
28 “Let these false prophets tell their dreams, but let my true messengers faithfully proclaim my every word. There is a difference between straw and grain! 29 Does not my word burn like fire?” says the Lord. “Is it not like a mighty hammer that smashes a rock to pieces?
30 “Therefore,” says the Lord, “I am against these prophets who steal messages from each other and claim they are from me. i mentioned my Father in Heaven, the Almighty God. StPete: I'm typing this from the church and I have refused to make any prayers for Nigeria. As Catholic, there is prayer for Nigeria in distress, prayer against bribery and corruption in Nigeria, and more recently prayer against the Corona virus pandemic.
The first two prayers have been in existence for more than 5 years and the last one has been for about a year now, yet there are no remarkable difference in Nigeria's distressful situation nor has the rate of bribery ever slowed down since these prayers were composed till date. Do I even talk about the rate of spread of the Novell Corona virus in Nigeria compared to last year when the prayers started?
So when these prayers are said in church, I just keep mute and shake my head. Nigeria keeps getting worse everyday even as the number of churches, mosques and other religions are on the rise.
I do believe in God, there are no questions asked. However, I wonder why there's no remarkable difference in the prayers we offer in Nigeria. Has religion become scam particularly in Nigeria? Prayers work but rice alone cannot make jollof rice as important as it is. |
