Family › Re: What My Brother Is Doing To Me. Is It Fair? Please Advise by ImaIma1(f): 1:42pm On Jan 27, 2022
Kriss216:
I've seen two friends calling themselves My Blood , when one was arrested, the other absconded. It was the brother of the arrested one that came from another state to bail him.

For me, I don't think I can love any woman more than I love my mother. I keep telling anyone who cares to listen.
And especially a Nigerian girl. By now, I'm sure everyone on this platform knows that already.
Family › Re: My Wife Blacklisted/blocked My Mother's Line On Her Phone by ImaIma1(f):
badoh:
Though I'm yet to confront my wife on this as I need to gauge public comment if this act of her is tenable. This is how it goes.
My mum called me last week to know how we were doing( myself, my wife and our children). In such greetings, she will pray for us on the phone and wish us well. However, she told me she has been calling my wife's line for a couple of days but the number always returned busy. I never attached importance to this cos I thought it could be network issue. This week again, she called me to extend her greetings and told me to inform my wife that she has been trying to reach her on phone but her number is busy.
I was curious and wanted to know what actually happened. Around 10pm yesternight, my wife gave me her phone to charge for her as she was already feeling dizzy. I collected the phone and remembered what my mum told me. I went to check if my mum number was blacklisted on her phone, alas, my mum's number was actually blacklisted. I can't really comprehend why she would do such. I'm so disappointed in her for what she did. I had to snap the blacklisted part in case she wants to deny it if I eventually confront her. My mum is not the troublesome type, very calm and kind.
I dont know if I should confront her on this or I should keep it within myself. I can never think of doing such to her own parents.
Has anyone experience this before?
I don't think you take your marriage seriously for you to bring your wife to Nairaland where you know there's a bias for women, especially when it comes to MILs. Here, she will be guilty, whether or not she really is.

Please talk to the person you have the matter with instead of bringing it first to strangers that have no business in your marriage.

smiley smileyI remembered the very first time I blocked a number, that was in 2013 with my now discarded old Samsung Galaxy4... Those marketers number that calls and when u pick, a machine will start talking....

I was desperately looking for a digit to press to block them and get my sanity back because I have never blocked anyone before then... it was not easy to locate until I eventually found it... That made me think that before one goes to that blocked click area, one must have that in mind to do so...

Though I might exempt those who were not IT savvy...I don't know if OP's wife is included or not... that will be his call to make if the wife was or not....

But according to what the OP wrote, I believe he must have told her his mother could not reach her when she called several times.. she never acted on it to know if something was wrong... But when u told your sister, she quickly acted on it... She practically asked u to check for her if there was a problem..

That's part of what we are talking about.. if it was deliberate act or not... which by the way, it's not a big deal if it was because she has every right to do whatever with her phone...
Well, we won't really know now. Everyone already has a bias against women and MILs especially on this platform. So, the wife is definitely guilty.

People were basically trying to give an excuse that it was a mistake... I don't just buy that... I mean what kind of phone were they using that blocks people easily?... Blocking people is not the same as a phone that was Pocket dialing..haba!!! embarassed

If I hadn't experienced it, I would have said it's a lie. My eldest sister blocked me without knowing. I told her that her number was always busy. She said someone else complained of the same thing, and that I should help her check her phone to see if there was a problem.

Lo and behold, she blocked people without knowing.

You asked me if anybody discouraged me from travelling and I had to let you know that I was already born in the west. I didn't bring that fact out of nowhere.

YOUR INSECUIRTY is leading you feel my place of birth is a greatest achievement, that's why you called it that. I never flung where I was born in your face. It came up in our conversation naturally.

I mentioned my place of birth casually. You didn't take it casually. That's why you've repeated it back to me twice now. You won't let it go.

I've never discouraged from anybody from travelling because I've never had such a conversation! Most of the people I care about, live in the west.

I'm sorry you're mad.
Madam "elderly people are trapped abroad" keep ranting. But do well to release them from your trap first.

If you like be born in Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan or ntak iyang, it doesn't change the fact that "immigrants" are better than you sweetie.

Being born in the UK seems like your greatest achievement. You should put it in your bio and profile grin.

Mad? Why would I be mad? Do you know where I was born??! I was born in Lagos, Nigeria! How about that!

We really have misplaced priorities in this country sha. So of all our problems in the country IELTS is what we should be protesting about?

With the terrible English we speak and write in this country? You see people say "I base in Owerri" or "Am from Ibadan" or the really horrible one of "Are my to bring my credentials along?"

Even those that think they are very elite will drop a bombshell of "I will pay installmentally "

We speak a variant of English that is non-standard. We need to be evaluated to see if we speak and write the standard variants. Many of us can identify the standard variant if written but a large percentage of Nigerians cannot speak or write standard English (myself included)
The bolded is the one that touches me the most. It has become acceptable English especially on NL. Others I keep seeing here:

*I do eat in the morning, I do go to school. Adding "do" everywhere.

*The recent one on Nairaland is "my cousin brother", "my cousin sister".

Many people speak Nigerian English, unknown to them. That's why they will go to a shop and say "I want to buy maggi knorr"

Allowing his friend stay was the first no no. The friend did not see who else to squat with, that it is banana island he wanted to squat in.

Obviously, that kind of lifestyle was a big step up for him; from the taking pictures and showing off. He even had te guts to bring his girlfriend to stay in a married couple's home.

Your husband is the main culprit here as he allowed the nonsense and eventually joined in it.

What you choose to do at this point is really your choice. If you can truly know that he has changed, then you could give him another chance.

My older relatives that live here spoke of retiring back to Nigeria for years but still none of them have done it permanently as they planned.
None of them are trapped and most of them have great pensions. They just grew accustomed to living a better quality of life here and comfort and peace of mind are very important to our elders.

My parent went back 4 years ago for a three month visit but was calling the airline to get the ticket changed and cut the visit short after 3 weeks. Older people come to realize that the Nigeria of today is not the Nigeria of their youth.

If someone offered to pay to relocate those complaining back to Nigeria and sent a jumbo jet to escort them home, I bet most of them would refuse to board.
Cc 1Sharon

Exactly what I have been trying to point out. Many elderly people I know don't want to come back here when they travel. My brother's MIL stays minimum of 6months when she visits. She's 82. She's always reluctant to come back.

The quality of life abroad can't be compared to Nigeria. Cold is not an issue. People here just trying to justify what is not justifiable, and acting like having more Nigerians abroad will reduce "their ration".

At the bolded, they will tell you they cannot come back empty-handed or one excuse or the other.

But what is with the cold and princess treatment story? You are trying to be diplomatic so that it won't seem like you are one of those who discourage people.

I'm telling you that old people are living abroad in cold places and prefer to stay there. But you insist that they don't like it but are staying there because they are trapped. So since you are here, I will ask you some questions.

What exactly is trapping these old people that they can't come back because of the cold?

Are all the elderly.people who have decided to stay abroad despite the cold trapped?

Have all the elder people abroad complained to you?

You know some, doesn't mean you know all.

At the bolded, I am glad I'm not the only one who sees this. Everything you wrote/said is just the truth and reality on this forum.

It's not only giveaway threads they flood now, any thread where a person mentions they inherited some money, they won money from sports betting or they gave money to an ungrateful friend or relative, you will see them there asking for money or dropping their bank account numbers.

There's nothing wrong with asking for help, but like you rightly said, it is the arrogance/insults of their footprints and track record that beats me.
It's so rampant now. The inheritance thread, someone was already asking for 150k. Once a thread involves money, they can't resist the urge to put their problems there with account number.

When I need help, it's not everybody I can ask. But these guys will always look for a way to stylishly beg on every thread they read money. They do it directly or indirectly with sob stories.

Hmm.........from what I've seen this usually happens when a person who was begging for money or appealing for help from others, turns out to be a real jerk who constantly runs his mouth upandan this forum, insulting and bullying others for no good reason.

You see them on every thread (always the first set of people to comment) calling people simp or saying Nigerian girls are stupid and useless all of them. Forgetting they were begging for 5k from a Nigerian girl and in another instance asking a different Nigerian girl to convert a giveaway gift to recharge card for them.

Babes, such people deserve to be judged and dragged from The DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) to Kampala in Uganda and back again. Like seriously, who the hell do they think they are? You benefit from the goodwill of certain people on this forum and return to continuously diss others!

It's not just people who have begged for money in the past. Some people share their personal life issues here (which is fine and good, no problem with that) but then they turn around and hound others over difference of opinions or because you didn't respond to a DM, then the bullying and insults, without provocation or justification commences.

They deserve every bit of reference to their past, the dragging and insults they receive as well. They think they have the monopoly of werey and bullying, abi? It serves them right, every time they get a dose of their own medicine.
Your comment made me really LOL, especially the bolded.

I get your point. Some of these people can't afford to use their real monikers because the humility in begging and the arrogance/insults of their previous comments will be at complete variance, especially the guys.

Haven't you noticed that most of the giveaway threads are filled with guys. When it comes to begging, they are humble, but they are quick throw insults to women mostly.

It's so funny how they say Nigerian girls are beggars cheesy. A classic case of pot and kettle.

Works as what?

If she's not a citizen or has permanent residence, how did she get a job? Or has she been there that long?

It's not just about the cold. It's also about the princess treatment
You speak like you know how everything should work in every country abroad. She has done omugwo for people a couple of times, even outside her province.

We are talking about people getting discouraged about travelling. Let me ask; were you discouraged by people not to travel when you wanted to? If yes, did you still travel? Why?

You said cold, now it's about the princess treatment. If they can't deal with the treatment as a result of difference in culture, they can go back home. But according to you, ALL of them are trapped. Trapped by what? You don't want to own up that life is better there than it is in Nigeria despite the supposed cold.

This is actually what the guy was talking about. People abroad always looking for how to stop others from coming over with reasons that didn't stop they themselves from going.

If you still went despite what people said about hard life and the cold, let others also go and experience it too and decide they don't want it.

. I understand what you mean. 2 days ago I was at work, with the cold and crazy Job. I thought to myself, If I had a good Job in Naija nothing will make me come and stress myself like this in the name of hustle. I'm quite new though, I believe with time I'll get to enjoy the good sides too. Right now, the beautiful environment and 24/7 Light mean nothing to me anymore. The hustle is draining.

My two Nigerian female neighbors keep on complaining. Every single time they're in a conversation, it's about how they're tired, how they want to go back... Etc. But for their children they can't do that. Infact that's almost all what they talk about Everytime.

So I understand those who said it's not all rosy abroad. I also understand those who are really striving to travel out. Sometimes I feel Nigeria is better, the cruise, friends, fun, sun, etc. But then I remember Police, bribery and corruption (I hate this with passion) the joblessness, etc. Then I'll reconsider.

Thing is nowhere has it all.
This sounds like UK or an European country

Mainly the ones born there acclimate. If someone left Nigeria at an older age, they can't get used to a foreign environment like that if they're already set in their ways.

Does your friends mum work or is she being taken care of? The siblings are younger, they would like it.

As I said before those older ones that left can't come back because theyre trapped.
You underestimate these people or you just use some to judge all. The mum lived in Lagos all her life. In fact she was a teacher in one of the state schools till she retired. She's about late 60s now.

She works sometimes. She used to go and visit but now, she hardly comes back.

Those ones that complain can't stand the cold, yet they stay because ALL of them are trapped, ALL! They know what life is like in Nigeria. Forget cold.

The cold has not killed them. If they are dying because of it, the trap will release itself.

That's what they I'm saying. It's the older ones. They are trapped there because they keep complaining, yet aren't unable to leave because of other commitments as I said.

Old Nigerians abroad do not like it there, trust me. Alot of them have commitments, keeping them there.

In Nigeria cold won't affect their health and they can relax because a 15 young girl can be serving their meals, cleaning their house and washing their clothes. In the west, that's illegal and only the super rich have maids.

In Nigeria you are seen as the next thing to God because you're old.
In the west, a kid can tell you to shut up and you can't touch them.

Yes we can all agree the quality of life is better. That's not the point.

But for older Nigerians, they prefer Nigeria because of the treatment they get. But yes I do know some old ppl prefer the west.
I think a lot of them acclimatize. This same Canada that people are screaming about. My very close friend stays there in Ottawa. Her mum used to visit till the woman has refused to come back. Her siblings too moves and settled down in Ottawa.

I've never heard her say her mum wants to come back because of cold.

Another big aunt of mine abandoned her husband and moved to the UK. Cold has not sent her back for years. If it's that detrimental to their health, they would come back. Besides, there are old people from those regions who are still alive.

Also, you should know that Nigerians are very adaptable and tend to fall in line.

You guys really don't get it

Do you really think Nigerians that are abroad especially the older ones like being abroad?

Cold is terrible for old people especially black people. Nigerians that like the country left there at an older age and have dreams of coming back. They're different to those born there that know no other home.

Alot of them cannot come to Nigeria because they are trapped and have children and other commitments.

When they tell you not to come they know what they're saying. You'll get trapped aswell.

If you don't have remarkable skills and are unskilled. You're likely to stay that way once you leave Nigeria. A metamorphosis cannot happen.
Not everybody is trapped abroad. And it's not for anybody to discourage people from going. The people that are complaining over there, are they on their way back?

Forget all the "I don't want to come back empty-handed". Life is better abroad. Things work. You pay for light and it is constant. In Nigeria, you pay for light and still buy fuel for generator. Or is it the bad roads or terrible education sector?

Cold or no cold, the quality of life is better abroad.
