tempest01: The insolence to even think that you can cook the food more than those that invented it. Let me go online and get picture of what premium afang looks like. Then you compare.
Maybe I see why, the afang in your picture isn't fresh. I am not Efik or Ibibio, but im an offshoot of Ibibio. I'm just hearing from you that we don't use unshelled periwinkle. My three decades of being born and living in Akwa ibom and visiting Calabar, I've not heard such.
So the pictures below. To get best results, 2. thats what a finely sliced afang looks like. 1. And also a fresh and finely pounded afang. 3. Then that is how to chop your waterleaf to get the best result.
Your afang ratio to waterleaf as with the picture you posted is poor. Calm down! There is no insolence anywhere. Anyone can cook anything well, depending on who they learnt in from. Saying that only an ibibio/efik person will cook it best is a fallacy. The periwinkle is a choice, shelled or unshelled. Infact i was at my cousin's place. They grew up in the village. The afang they served me didn't have "mfi" at all. Will i throw the soup away. Relax! It's not that deep. |

ButterBurger: The unshelled periwinkle don spoil the soup. I once ate the meal but twas kinda difficult with the periwinkle. It doesn't make sense trying to suck the stuff outta the shell, where I come from, they shell is thrown away and not cooked with soup. What if it's swallowed by mistake. People in some tribes will just think of a soup and cook it without considerations, You can't even chew your food well It doesn't make sense to you. But to those from there, it makes every sense. What do you mean without considerations? Some people won't eat afang without seeing those shells in it. If you swallow it, you will poo it out. |

pocohantas: I am tired of vintage Nairaland.
Thanks Maria. My friend wanted it spicy. I do not make spicy afang but I had to follow her instructions. Yellow pepper is lit, my mum would never make soup without it. Your mum knows what's up. I like to drop some of the yellow pepper whole in my afang. So that when I'm eating, i open it and scoop with my soup . |

pocohantas: Thanks Ima. Yea, I used two other dry fishes that I do not even know their names. The AKS woman that sold it to me swore it is tasty. Let me google the Inanga.
Hahaha! I just did. That is the fish. The dried one. I will go back and thank her. It looked very slim, I was wondering where is the meat in this kind thing biko. But she insisted I should use it first.
You see this thing is subjective. Some of your brothers said you people do not know what is yellow pepper, another said removing the periwinkles from the shell is widely accepted… Nawa!! Don't mind them. If you go to Lawanson market for instance, they usually pound the yellow pepper with the afang for you. If you stay in Lagos and around surulere, Lawanson market is a good place to get good stuffs. They have a group of Akwaibom/cross river women there. And they use a mortar to pound the afang for you...lol. For the periwinkles, it is typically used with the shells. But it's still based on preference. But this your soup is really appealing. |

pocohantas: Afang Soup In Three Easy Steps
How do you like it? With shelled (Pic 1) or unshelled (Pic 2) periwinkles? Very apt and inviting. Yellow pepper is an essential ingredient. Some people just used "rodo". It works, but not the same. The only thing is that afang is an expensive soup as you mentioned and the kind of fish used is usually the pricy and good ones. If in Akwaibom, the one they call inanga is great. |

Tzar: I understand your anger towards women bashers. The man clearly said the woman is a good one outta the lot who doesn’t deserve to be cheated on. He didn’t marry a Jezebel (which most Nigerian women are) who made his life miserable daily. I tell men to just be grateful if the Universe gave them a woman with low ‘witch vibe’. If you marry out of the many defective lot out there, you will understand where these men bashing women are coming from. Most Benz users swear that it is the best automobile you can buy, but if you ever got a defective Benz you won’t even wanna touch it ever again with a 500m stick. Most men have very terrible experiences with Nigerian women, which they have been raised NOT to share, so they don’t look like nagging sissies. If men unlearn this bad and unhelpful predisposition & start sharing their stories like women do, you will understand the psychology behind their anger. You make it sound like the Nigerian men are saints, and the women are the condemned gender. Do you know the terrible experiences women have had with Nigerian guys? Do you know how many badly brought up, selfish, mean coconut heads Nigerian women have had to deal with? It's because it is your gender so it is easier to remove the spec in the other gender's eye when you have a full log in yours. When we point one finger, the other point right back at us. So use the same energy you use to condemn and castigate Nigerian women for Nigerian men too. |

MufasaLion: Yes, you're absolutely right. He should be sent out. It's really pathetic! If they don't send him out and he eventually prey on their daughter or neighbors kids', they will forever regret it. Sadly, most families to harbour such relatives with such dirty and commendable behavior. People are just too sentimental when they should be taking action. Waiting for his brother to return is not a must in this kind of situation. |
Family › Re: Perverted Brother In-law by ImaIma1(f): 5:00pm On Feb 21, 2022 |
MufasaLion: Best advise is that, the dude should be sent out of that house. He's a predator. He's addicted to porn and shameless about it. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been molesting the little girl or the boy. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if he's been wänking to the woman's pictures or wears. Shameless man!
All the woman needs to do is to tell the school authority to contact the husband and request his presence in the school premises concerning his son's misconduct. That should make the man know that "his roof is on fire."
I believe a reasonable parent would never want to be humiliated. It's every parent's nightmare to be confronted with such behaviour from their kids. And if the reason for that behaviour is right under your roof, drastic measures should be taken immediately. |

Health › Re: Natural Birth Or C-Section For Twins? by ImaIma1(f): 4:03pm On Feb 21, 2022 |
NTAChannel5: He's a private doc, one that would never answer a simple question over the phone. You'll need to come to the hospital, fill a form and lay your complaint. Two times my wife had diarrhea and we had to come to the hospital and do a blood test. And on those two occasions he recommended ORS. I've asked him and all he keeps saying is 'When we see', meaning I have to come and see him face-to-face again.
I'm not saying C -Section babies are not normal o. I'm just worried about safety of all concerned. You will agree with me that women of nowadays are not as strong as our mothers, they want everything easy. I want it easy too, I love my wife more than I love myself.
As for the twins, I didn't expect it either. I didn't want her to do a scan but after seeing the size of her stomach I had to. And trust me, even though I'm glad to be a 'Papa Ejima' I'm equally worried about the cost. Already, the hospital has told us to buy another round of the very things we bought before for one baby. You guys here would always look for a way to discredit women. How do you know that women are not as strong. Last time i was there, there were 3 babies in the nursery; 2 were vaginal and one CS. About your question, you still need to consult with your doctor. How do you think Nairalanders will give you a good answer without your wife's history and information. If they say, go for natural delivery, will you take it? The next antenatal is a great time to ask him. |

The same way their siblings sent them to you, send them back to them. Tell them your money is tied up and you are up to your neck in debts.
The siblings need to step up to their responsibilities. And if you keep filling in for them, they never will. Except, you want to keep spoon-feeding them, then you need to allow them assume their responsibilities. |

pocohantas: No it is not your phone . She said homemade jollof. For party jollof, the water cooking the rice shouldn’t be runny for a start. It must be thick. Once it is runny, you know you have missed it. It looks more like concoction rice. The tomato mix should have more of tatashe/shombo. And using a manual blender is a no no. Even homemade should look like the real thing. |
