okparaugo: It is a very big shame when all a person can achieve is running after increased pay when he/she could better his own pay via private practice.

It is not uncommon to see multimillionaire doctors and pharmacits who through private practice have dwarfed government pay and bettered their lives...

Every time we be hearing this noise. Smh..
It is called EBR (Employees Bragging Rights)

It usually takes one manager or one crazy minister to smack them back to reality.

It is entertaining reading up on how employees are fighting and bragging about their jobs that are expandable.

Bankers in Nigeria understand this better.

The problem of Nigerians is way beyond corruption.
Corruption is external problem. But the internal problems (ego, pride, low self-esteem) supersede all.

Pharm Musa, Arch. Yinka, Alhaji Dotun.

And to crown it all ---Chief (Dr) Alhaji Eng. Festus Kayode Musa. All for one person?

New marriage to another woman?

Instead of thinking of the compensation I think you should be in the church giving thanksgiving and testimony.

By the way, you should have known that a woman that relays a friend's experience is always a dead give away
that she is tslking about herself

ziga: No I don't. I'm trying to tie your multiple statements together and they are contradictory.

So, because you think Doctors already get what they deserve, then the Nigerian people get what they deserve, and they deserve lack of equipment, poor training of the Docs supposed to treat them?
@ziga:
Read phantom's response.

I will not engage you any more. You lack basic reading and comprehension skill.

@phantom:
Pay attention to my previous statements which included this subtle clarification, "not that these guys are not intelligent..."

In summary, doctors should be the only medical consultants in a hospital.
Health › Re: Seriously, Doctors Are Small gods - Funke Egbemode (Sun News) by InvertedHammer: 1:27pm On Jul 12, 2014
ziga: Your statement is filled with contradictions. Doctor face and handle more life threatening situations, yet their scope of knowledge is abysmalhuh

So, therefore. Nigeria's women and children deserve to die from Malaria, Pneumonia and other preventable or treatable medical problems in the hands of these Nigerian Doctors.

If that is your stand, i know you do not speak for the people of Nigeria and I pray you are not involved in making Nigeria's decisions.
Are you just typing for the heck of it?

They handle life-threatening situations. Yes.
How well they handle the situations calls for debate. This could be attributed to many factors such as lack of equipment, poor training, etc.

I hope you get the true picture now.
Health › Re: Seriously, Doctors Are Small gods - Funke Egbemode (Sun News) by InvertedHammer: 1:07pm On Jul 12, 2014
ziga: I agree with your point here that Nigeria should train their Doctors well and pay them better.

But saying that you believe they are earning what they deserve is absolutely contradictory to your first statement. because that means Nigerians are getting the kind of healthcare that they deserve based on how they treat their Doctors.
Yes. That's what they deserve. Doctors in Nigeria put in more work hours and handle more life-threatening situations sometimes more than other professionals. Their remunerations are not bad either.
No one gives what he/she has not. The doctors can only practice within their knowledge spectra which regrettably is very abysmal. Not that these folks are not intelligent. But the curricula on which their trainings are based are incomplete.
Health › Re: NMA Vs JOHESU Vs FG Vs Patients........ Why the hatred for doctors??? by InvertedHammer:
/

Since the so-called Nigeria doctors like to smell their a_sses, let's work on facts:

Technically, MD is Doctor in Medicine,
DDS: Doctor of Dental Surgery,
Ph.D: Doctor of Philosophy,
D.O: Doctor of Osteopathic medicine

MD = 4/5yrs B.Sc + 4 Med School + 3 yrs Residency = 12 years programme

MBBS = 6 years programme

Since Nigeria offers MBBS (Medical Bachelor and Bachelor of Surgery), being called doctors is the same as referring to
a herbalist as a traditional doctor. In an educationally sane society, MBBS holder takes another 8 years minimum to
finally qualify as a medical doctor. USMLE I, USMLE II will take atleast 3 or 4 years to get through, then residency will take
another 4 years depending on the speciality. If you want to do fellowship (not for General practitioners), add another
2 years.

My point is: They are not qualified to be called doctors yet. They are healthcare technicians.

Come to think of it...

The same way they are massaging their egos ignorantly, do you think after going through 12 years of medical school that
I will like those that went through 6 years of mediocre training to be referred to as doctors as well when it is
clearly stated in their certificates that they hold MBBS? Quiet a number of Nigerian doctors (especially the older ones) that came to USA
end up being physician assistants, Nurses or other allied healthcare practitioners.

They may be lying to their colleagues or family members back home that they are doctors in USA but the we know them.

I am not the least surprised because Nigerians like titles. Every professional wants an appendage to his/her name to clearly elevate his
status. If Obama, Hillary and Bill Clinton are Nigerians, they will be Dr.Obama, Dr.Hillary Clinton and Dr. Bill Clinton because they have J.D (doctorate degree in Law). Who is the Vice-President of Nigeria? Arch. Sambo (Arch for Architect). A pharmacist is Pharm.X. You hear crazy
things like Chief.Dr.Arch. Mrs Y (JP)...etc only in Nigeria.

SMH

Moving on...only doctors are and should be consultants/Attending physicians. A doctor is like the captain of the ship. Are the other personnel
important? Yes. They all have some job to do as a team. But someone has to be the team leader. And that team leader is the doctor. Other healthcare workers provide ancillary services.

Doctors in Nigeria deserve to be paid well especially the specialists. My beef is that most of these folks got into M&S because their parents wanted them to be doctors for egotistical reasons.

I was walking some doctors at Asokoro Gen. Hospital through the basics of ABG(arterial blood gas) analysis and its clinical applications. To my chargrin, they have no clues about what the hell I was talking about outside glancing over it in the textbooks. Are these the doctors that treat patients in the hospital?

Nigeria should train their doctors well and pay them better. Until then, it is pointless engaging in this argument because I believe doctors in Nigeria are currently earning what they are worth. Most of them should be trained more in invasive procedures as well.

If anything, Igbo people deserve accolades.

For a set of people whose fortunes were reset to £20 per person
post Biafran war, they have done well for themselves.

That is a feat that Dangote, Otedola, Adenuga and other Fed. Govt beneficiaries can never achieve.

It is appauling that Igbo people own prime real estates in Lagos, Abuja and other metropolis whereas the other tribes that had a headstart after the war still cannot compete effectively with an average Igbo man in all spheres of life within Nigeria.

dremmy: My point is: Naija's health system is modelled after the British. I was responding to 1. Lanrefront whose Lab scientist mum who had worked for 30 years tells him how pungent doctors were. and 2.Invertedhammer who quotes his almighty US without even knowing that both health structure and medical education in US is clearly set apart from the rest of the British commonwealth.

And yes, i might have not quoted lanrefronts comments to join to your own crap and i guess thats what makes me a stroke patient and a psychiatric person too.
However, if it's the demi god status of doctors that is giving you sleepless nights, if its what is giving you a huge colic, then I suggest you my friend to go jump off the cliff!!
I will not join issues with you. Come to US and pass USMLE Step I and II first before I give you the 15mins of fame you want.
I will leave it for your feeble mind to fathom out what you think I do for a living before you come out here to masturbate in public. I teach people way above your level in the profession you know little about. When you keep appending "almighty" when talking about US shows that the US Embassy probably did some numbers on you.

You mentioned that Nigerian system is modelled after British system. Oh! Here goes the new information of the century. We just learned something no one else knew.

Next time if you want to refute a statement, be kind to your audience and quote what you are refuting to clear all confusion. I don't blame you. The bar has been lowered too low that any slowpoke can graduate from universities in Nigeria. I can understand.
Gloria Iheanacho writes. And i found it interesting.

I am a Medical lab scientist in one of the state hospitals. I have this strange feeling for doctors, hatred is the extreme form of what i feel about them. Its nothing personal. My family are JOHESU-mother is a nurse practising in the US for more than 16yrs, father is a pharmacist. 2 of my siblings are pharmacist and one a nurse. My mother watched the sunrise daily yesterday and kept on screaming. Theres no place in the US in which the other health workers heads. They are usually headed by doctors. Not all nurses are made consultants. You talk about consultant nurse when you talk about the legal aspect and they dont work in hospitals. Relativity is maintained everywhere in the health sector. Whats the debate about?
As hard as it is for me to write this, i want to be on the side of truth. The doctors in this country are not given the necessary respect that they need. Personally, i have read the 24 point demands and i think theres so much sense in it. The FG needs to do something about this. Lets join our hands and build our health sector. Health they say is wealth
invertedHammer: You have no iota of idea of what you are talking about. Government hospitals like Veterans Medical Centers (the biggest Federal funded hospital chain in USA) are not headed by medical doctors. Some doctors are in what will best be described as Board of Directors. But the overall head is usually someone trained in Business or Healthcare administration. The overall head known as the Secretary of VA Mr. Shinseki thst just resigned has M.A in English while Mr. Sloans who is the acting Secretary now has M.A in Economics. It is pertinent to note that each facility has a director and I am yet to know any facility that has a medical doctor as the overall head. You can Google their website at www.VA.gov to educate yourself. Hospitals in US are run as corporations that they are and not as "ego massage parlours".
dremmy: Before you sell your garbage, Nigerian hospitals have Director of Administration (DA) that oversee the administrative Sides of the hospitals and the Board of directors appointed by either the state or federal government. This board is the highest decision making body in the hospital. Now can you leave the US abit? Can we focus on how the British NhS hospital Is run? because the last time I checked our health care and even all university degrees were modelled after our colonial masters! Can you please stop the US crap?

I would take Yeovil hospital NHS as an example. It's headed by a CEO Dr Lucy more. Who is a specialist. The hospital also have board of directors that are 14 in number. Don't bring out yourself with your cheap reasons. We know America is a place where everything goes because of their complicated health system.

Do you want me to educate you on the health system of western Europe? Of course they are modelled like that of the UK! India and China the medical directors are medical doctors too while the managerial components are health with by managers who may or may not be doctors.
So your argument holds no water!
Also, if your Johesu says doctors and paramedics should earn the same salaries, is that how it's done in your almighty US? For your info the head of the labs in hospitals in UK and US are pathologists(specialist doctors) and they earn over a median of $250k while the lab scientist like your mum in US don't even hit 6 figures! It is the same story in UK and the discrepancy is even worse in UAE and Qatar! RELATIVITY is the rule but only JOE HATES YOU doesn't see that!
/

dremmy:
And the reason for working yourself towards Stroke is ...?

I responded to Gloria Iheanacho's article where she stated, "Theres[sic] no place in the US in which the other health workers heads. They are usually headed by doctors".

Reading your post again, I can see that you are a very confused human being. Are you responding to my piece you quoted or to the
same Gloria Iheanacho that mentioned her mother as a lab scientist?

I hope someone with comprehension problem like you is not among those clamoring to be treated as demi-gods.

You think I didn't learn from the experience?

3 years went by fast and the storyline remains the same.

It would have been different if I live there. But since I don't, trust was the only thing I relied on.

And I don't know if trust has been eradicated from Nigeria.

I keep hearing that there are some good people out there. But my question is: How many times do one has to fail before you meet that one good person? That is assuming you have a very deep pocket.

I take the blame. And the blame I take is for daring to TRUST. Are you happy now?

Chau and her husband, Jed Rubenfeld, just released a controversial (and some say racist) parenting guide called 'The Triple Package', where they declared there to be only eight successful and superior groups of people in the US.

They eight are: Chinese, Jewish, Indian, Iranian, Lebanese-Americans, Nigerians, Cuban exiles and Mormons
