ak47mann: u dey mind them!!!!it's not true. Some BH commanders are southerners. Many are yorubas, many are igbos, while some are ijaws. Ask Alhaji Asari Dokuba why he's a muslim. |
Hello, long time. U guys have changed the biz name. Good. |
@silaV: Really HND is not for children of the rich and policy makers, that is why they don't care. It is very rare to find their children in such schools doing HND. It is really a disease that has to be endured. |
SilaV: My brother,Ismael,I can feel your pain.I have HND in Electrical-Electronics Engineering from one the best polytechnics in Nigeria and also graduated with a nice grade. The dichotomy between HND and B.SC,B.ENG or B.TECH in Nigeria has been in existence for a very long time.General Obasanjo, during the twilight of his administration tried to put an end to this, but change in government and lack of continuity made the trend persists. We all know the roles of each cadre of class of the Engineering family. The different functions accounted for the difference in curricula. All things being equal, there ought not to be any form of discrimination against the HND holders, especially holders with engineering background(no disregards meant for other fields), but Nigerian system has chosen to make it like that. The piece of advice I will give to you is to upgrade yourself. Please, note that going for PGD with the aim of obtaining Masters degree to be at parity with the university colleague won't solve the problem totally:reference will still be made to your "first degree" at a higher level-I know what I am talking about. The best way,I think, to be free of discrimination is to go for a linkage programme to B.Sc programme,if you are so eager and other factors like age, family responsibility, time, etc are on the positive note for you. This could be done by enrolling with institutions that offer such programmes:like UNISA, University of Portsmouth, etc. If you are an Engineering student, then, UNISA may be good for you.It is an online Programm, whereby you don't need to travel outside Nigeria before getting your B.TECH.Other foreign instititions like Uni Prthsmouth,Westend College require that you travel out for the programme. There are other options available within Nigeria here: UNIPORT offers a special bridge progamme for HND holders, this programme often lasts for three academic sessions.Still on options available in Nigeria, you can obtain Direct Entry back into 300L(Only very few can do this).Mr Ismael, as at present I am upgrading myself using one of the aforementioned Nigerian options and I am really doing great CGPA-wise, despite the fact that I am working. On a final note, educational achievement is an individual thing: one can get to the top even with SSCE or OND without HND or the much talked about B.SC. You are lifted Bro.Remember, que sera serai have HND and Bsc both in the same course. All i am saying is that let the truth be said about HND in nigeria. Polytechnic HND holders have skills that make them comparable with Bsc holders. I also have a friend that lectures in a first generation uni. He does nt ve a Bsc but he is a PhD holder now and is addressed as a 'Dr'. He has ND, HND, PGD, Msc, and PhD. He was employed to lecture with his Msc and was offered admission to run PhD. He was very lucky. The truth is that i did and learnt more in the polytechnic than in the uni. Let those concern stop playing politics with the HND qualification. |
ajayitp04: HND and Bsc are not equivalent as far as nigeria is concerned. As it was in the begining, is now and forever shall be, world without end. Amen. That's the statement of a politician, who happens to be an ideot. I think the only way out is to upgrade yourself if you are holding HND.if HND is not an equivalent qualification to a Degree then what is it equivalent to? NCE entry level is level 07 and Degree is 08, then where will u best place HND being that it is higher than NCE? Let them stop playing politics with the nigerian HND, its worth is equivalent to a bachelor Degree or even more. |
Is there anything new in mathematics or statistics that we need to know? I mean any breakthrough or new technique in maths or stats? Pls share it with us. |
ASUU should learn from this. No group of people are above being sacked and replaced with others. If they do anyhow they will see anyhow. |
yamakuza: What about the former thread?I can't find it again. Can u help us look for it? |
Where are the mathematicians and statisticians on nairaland? Let's have some mathematical discussions. |
@Achi4u: Are u implying that Asari Dokubo from the Niger Delta could be a boko haram member since he's a muslim? |
Buhari can still lead any time better than the fisher man who is on the throne now. GEJ is a mediocre leader or ruler where the likes of Buhari are. Fulanis are known to be better leaders than fisher men. Can't u see how they make cows and goats behave almost better than some people on NL? But he needs to work on one thing; religious intolerance. |
Yes bro. In Nigeria u have to do a pgd first before proceeding for the masters. There are 2 types of masters any way,- the professional masters like MBA, MBF, etc. and the academic masters like Msc, MEd, etc. Most HND holders do the prof masters. To be qualified for the academic masters (Msc, MEd, etc.) u will first of all do the academic pgd and u must obtain a CGPA that is equivalent to atleast a 2nd class upper Degree before u will be qualified to apply for the Msc or MEd program. |
layzie: Oga i can make 20%on my one million in just 45days, so y tie it for one year for a mere 30%??1 million naira to be tied down for 365 days for an interest of 30%? it's not a good investment then. And mind u bush meat still exists in the market o. |
This is a very good topic. U can easily get materials on the internet for ur literature review. All u need to gather ur data is to design a good questionniare and collect the data u need from ur population of interest. U can use spss to analyze d data. U can send email to me if u need my support. I'm a practicing statistician. Ishmaelxy@yahoo.com |
fubbyy: @ ishmael , I said it before, we are talking about graduates as educated people and non graduate as non educatedyour response is still vague. Are you talking about university/polytechnic graduates or university graduates alone? All the same u can still carry out a sample survey to gather the data u need, analyze ur data, and conduct a statistical test of hypothesis to get the best result. Like i said before, it's a very good research topic, but it requires good funds to carry it out. |
It also depends on what level of education u are interested in whether secondary, OND, NCE, HND, Degree or Postgraduate. Because we cannot rule out the fact that somebody with secondary education is educated. So it depends on what u define as being educated. |
fubbyy: Dangote is a graduateGood. Then he should be off that man's list. If u really want to get a reliable result, carry out a sample survey using questionnaires or any method, collate the data, analyze the data and do a test of hypothesis to determine if the claim is actually valid or false. |
Tsiya: Even Okar is confused, as dividing Nigeria requires more than just agression and good intention. How could he forget to excise Kaduna, Gongola (Adamawa+Taraba) & Niger States with the rest of the northern states still baffles me.Are u not aware that majority of the people in those states are non-hausas? Most part of these states are part of the proposed middle belt region. |
@Jamonirich: i thought some nigerians said Dangote is a graduate? |
You can do a research on it by taking a sample from the area u reside and use questionnaires to collect the data. You will get a more reliable result than seeking people's opinion on nairaland. It's a good research topic. |
Yes, he's right. The NSA said it all. It's pdp according to our NSA. |
Why on earth will technological graduates (polytechnic graduates) be discriminated in nigeria? In the UK, US, and other developed and developing countries technologists are not discriminated against. Engineering Technologists and Engineers are employed on the same level. Technologists are employed on the same level with science graduates, but each with distinct and related job functions and roles. Why is it not the same in nigeria? Who is behind this ugly practice in nigeria? |
How many did he (Jonathan Goodluck) create as a science graduate? Why did he jump into politics if it is easy for graduates to create jobs for themselves and others. Just get the certificate and look for connection to enter civil service, that's all. |
Hnd-holder:Yes u're right, some polytechnic HND courses do more in their course work than Bsc/ BTech in nigeria. In the UK, US, and other developed and developing countries, the difference btw engineering technology and engineering (engineering science) is very clear. Engineers design but cannot implement the design into finish product; whereas the engineering technologist implements the design and ensures it is implemented or built to specification. They are also responsible for maintenance and repairs in the event of a malfunction or failure. Their academic works are different. Engineers do more theoretical work like maths, science, etc while the technologist do more applied work than theory. Their maths and science courses are not too indepth, but they are well knowledeable in applied work. Each has its own role to play in the engineering community. They are placed on the same level in terms of employment but they perform different functions. None is made to see itself to be superior than the other, and none can effectively perform the function of the other because their trainings are not the same. Why is the case different in nigeria? The engineers see themselves as superior and yet have not been able to design for the technologists to implement. They have refused to allow the technologists to perform their own functions. |
They have struck again in kano. These people are satanic. What have xtain students got to do with them, are they newspaper publishers? Bastards! And i just finish hailing them o. |
@Darui: Stop being tribalistic. U call it nonsense abi? If na one southern girl from the south pass out as the first female military pilot, u no for dey hail her? U for call am nonsense? Why cant the northern woman be hailed too? We have called them illiterates and all kinds of name on this forum, but ask ur self, can illiterates do what they have just done? Within a short period of time, i have seen northerners whose IQ are higher than urs. U can't beat them. |
Whether u hail them or not, the fact still remains that they too are making positive contributions in nigeria. Why do we have to wait for them to f*ck up always so that we can call them names? Why don't we hail them now for the little positive moves they've made? Atleast we can see what they are doing now. They are only saying that "what the south can do, the north can do it better". I reside in kaduna and i can confidently tell u that most of the educated northerners, apart from their boko haram activities and religious intolerance are intelligent, and even better than many southerners who are ranting here on nairaland. |
Northerners are doing the nation proud. The other day it was one young man from zamfara state that delivered a paper at the world energy economics summit and now again they have produced the first ever female military pilot in nigeria- Flying Officer Blessing Liman from kaduna state. Who says northerners are not smart and intelligent? Most of the time we insult them and call dem all sorts of deregatory names when they misbehave. Now that they have started achieving positive things, don't they deserve to be hailed now? |
@yommy2sure: My guy ABU no easy for engineering and sciences sha. Imagine in ABU, QS and LS are in faculty of engineering too; doing some of the maths and engineering courses engineering guys do. Na God help boyz 4 dat skool. Guy enjoy ur week end jo. I dey kd. |
@yommy2sure: good to see another correct abusite on nairaland. Guy engineering students dey suffer for ABU sha. Laffss!! My supervisor is was malam Dikko (now Dr Dikko), you should know him naw. He takes engineering students stats 4 engineers and experimental design & quality control. U should know Mr Ajibade too in maths dept, he's a PhD holder now too. You also know Dr Jha too in maths dept abi? Una bin get one bad prof for engineering wey dey take strength of materials, prof Aku!! Guy body tell una o. If na mech eng u do, better go and demand 4 ur other certificate o; ur Bsc maths certificate. Laffss!! |
