yommy2sure: i get ur point, all the branches do have a lot of calculations in them. Its a fact. Why i mentioned mechanical is that only them still do maths courses (frm maths department) up till final year and even masters (in my sch ABU zaria) and it remained an advantge to build cgpa for those that love maths to the extreme...thanks yommy2sure: i get ur point, all the branches do have a lot of calculations in them. Its a fact. Why i mentioned mechanical is that only them still do maths courses (frm maths department) up till final year and even masters (in my sch ABU zaria) and it remained an advantge to build cgpa for those that love maths to the extreme...thanksGuy help me let them know. Infact when i read ur previous post i wanted asking u if u attended ABU before i now saw this post. This people are joking, or is it that their mech engineering is different from that of ABU or what? I Was in maths dept; our motto is: "critical thoughts for critical minds"; but we still respected guys from mech engineering becos the highest code for undergraduate maths courses in maths dept is 4, while mech eng have theirs to be 5. I think they do MATH 541 or so. Other engineering depts stop taking maths courses at 400 levels, i think MATH 441. We have helped Mech Eng guys argue that with the level they get to in maths, they need to be given 2 degrees and not one. We said they should be given BEng Mech Eng & Bsc Mathematics. It's funny, right? They can even teach guys in maths dept some maths courses, honestly. Chem Eng is one of the easy engineering depts in ABU faculty of Engineering. Infact Civil Eng is more tedious in ABU than Chem Eng. Try mech if na engineering maths they hungry u to do. I just hope u no go change dept later. |
Honestly i don't really know how many bags make a tonne. Try and find out and do the conversion for us. Thanx. We are waiting. |
If you want it in bags it is possible to source for say 100 bags within a week. And we can continue like that gradually. I'm in kaduna now and i believe we can source for the grains and get them in bags. So, where are you based, and where are we to deliver the grains? You can reach me on 07068945155. |
I'm not an Engineer, i am a Statistician. In statistics it enables you to know or study the rate of change of variables or quantities compared with other variables or quantities. I believe it is the same for Engineering. |
For those saying that HND graduates are not employed to teach in the polytechnic. HND holders are employed as instructors to teach in the polytechnic, while Bsc holders are employed as asst lecturers. All of them start from the same level but on different cadre. The difference is that the HND guy can never hold any key appointment like HOD, Dean, Rector, etc. From what i use to know years back, to lecture or teach HND students in the poly, NBTE requires that one holds a postgraduate qualification like Msc or PhD. Those with PGDip may be allowed too. Anybody with a Bsc or HND is to lecture only ND level. HND students are to be effectively taught by Msc and PhD holders. Even in the university a grad asst won't be allowed to lecture 300 and 400 levels students. |
HND and Bsc are not the same in content and structure. They are only equivalent qualifications. Poly do more practical work and seminars than the uni. The uni do more theoretical work and seminars than the poly. That is not to say that the unis do not have practical trainings and the polys do not have theoretical work to do. Let me give you a simple example. I did stat theory 1 & 2 in my ND and stat theory 3 & 4 in my HND in the polytechnic while studying maths &statistics. I also did distribution theory and probability theory in the university. Stat theory, dist theory, and prob theory are all the same thing with different names. Funny i did more in the poly stat theory than i did in the uni dist theory and prob theory. Infact, i used the poly notes to study for those courses and i got A's; but then in poly i was getting B highest. Infact some of the proofs in the stat theory where not in the dist theory and stat theory syllabi. The funny thing again is that i learnt how to use 4 different statistical computing softwares in the university maths dept computer lab during practical classes. In the polytechnic then we were only taught how to write and run programs in QBASIC, FORTRAN & COBOL. I merged the 2 systems of education together and it has helped me a lot as i now work as a consultant Statistician and Data analyst. Both systems are ok and the discrimination of HND and undue advantage given to Bsc holders should be stopped. Let every man be allowed to compete freely and fairly for any job. |
Ijaws are busy protesting against the subsidy report that indicted Diezani Madueke in abuja with full police escorts and protection. Tribalism has entered again. |
That was how they supported Alams, and later the truth came out and put all of dem to shame. Ijaws are becoming too tribalistic and sentimental for my liking, always supporting the evil deeds carried out by greedy and selfish ijaws who do not mean well for even the ijaws. My advice to kalabari, okrika, and other so called ijaw speaking tribes in Rivers state is that they should leave alone those bayelsans to continue fooling themselves. Why is it only them always? It's becoming too much jo. |
We provide training on the following statistical packages: spss, minitab, sas, stata, cspro, epi info, and econometrics packages like e-views. If you're in abuja, zaria, or kaduna and you're interested in learning any of these packages you can call 07068945155. Or e-mail: ishmaelxy@yahoo.com. We also provide statistical support and data analysis services for researchers in the academics, agric, bio-medical sciences, military, sociology, economics, politics, business/finance, science & tech, etc. We don't disappoint our clients in any way. |
@gbogboti: so u're an ABUsite? What dept faculty/dept were u? What year did u finish? ABU no easy o. Any southerner that has schooled there before can tell the story very well about the northerns there. They are n't that dull as most people think. ABU is as good as any 1st generation uni in the south. |
Let's get this thing right for once. Are we saying that nothing good has come out or can come out from the north? They don't need to come on board Nairaland to tell all they have achieved or trying to achieve. They don't make too much noise, but i am seeing them hitting the bull's eye. Remember, "empty vessels make the loudest noise". Pls let's commend their efforts and positive achievements, just as we condemn their negative habits and attrocities. |
@Ocelot2006: you got it right but just a little error probably a typo error. The NAF PH unit is 97 Special Ops Group and not 98. |
@Raxxye: They are not as dull or uneducated as you guys always echo on nairaland. I know a lot of them that are good educationally especially in the sciences. Prof Iya Abubakar is a reknown mathematician just like Prof Chike Obi, and a lot of other northerners are doing great in the academics. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and encourage them rather than calling them deregatory names. A lot of them are actually backwards because of their religious and social beliefs which they hold very strong more than anything else which makes them develop hatred for anything western education, and hence the emergence of "Boko Haram". The educated (western education) and enlightened ones need our encouragements and praises. |
Thought you guys said in some other threads that the hausas or northerners are not as educated at all as their southern counterparts? What is happening now? |
Who said northernes are not intelligent? Prof Iya Abubakar is a northerner and a reknown and notable mathematician in the world like prof Chike Obi. You can google it to see. Stop condeming them all. Some of the educated northerners are more intelligent than their southern mates. And who said we have more xtains in the southern than in the north? Most southerners whom u think are xtains are juju worshippers. There are more christains in some northern states than muslims. Go there and see for urself. To some extent we have more muslims in some south western states than in some northern states. The problem of the north is religious & political intolerance, and that is largely responsible for its backwardsness. |
For those of you reading statistics, mathematics, comp science, & economics and wish to arm yourselves with working knowledge of statistical software packages like SPSS, Minitab, SAS, STATA, etc. You can contact me on: 07068945155. or email: ishmaelxy@yahoo.com. Knowledge of statistical packages gives you the opportunity and ability to work as a data analyst on market researches, socio-economic researches, scientific researches, military, etc. I am a statistician, and with the good working knowledge of stats packages that i posses, i have been able to serve as data analyst to so many research projects including military/defence. This is very important for statisticians. Try and get in touch with me let's discuss. If you're schooling or staying around zaria, jaji, kaduna, and abuja, we can easily see, as most of my clients are in these areas. Thank you. |

Yes, it will be better for polytechnics to award only ND certificate, that is middle level manpower. Anything higher level should be done in the university and should be a Degree. Most HND programs especially in science, technology, and engineering are very similar to BTech programs in style and structure, but yet seen as inferior because it is coming from polytechnic. |
Yes, the poly certificate is seen as a mediocre cert that is not up to the standard of the uni cert, but yet the poly guys do the technical part of all the jobs. Those that are supposed to be researchers have ended up doing no research on anything meaningful at all. Take a look at our engineers who should design for technologists, they end up designing nothing, rather they end up doing the jobs of technicians fixing and repairing faulty engines and machines. |
A policy should be made that will lay little or no significance to certificates, but the emphasis and significance will be knowledge and skills. This will help solve this problem of HND and Bsc disparity and preference to Bsc even in the absence of required skills. It is then and only then that nigeria can develop in all its sectors. What an obnoxious policy against poly graduates. |
What are ur charges for biz name registration, and limited liability company? |
No body is saying that HND and Bsc are the same. All we are saying is that they are equivalent. Do we need mathematicians to come and explain the difference btw equality and equivalence? |
I had same problem yestaday too. I successfully loaded 200 naira airtime just to browse, but could nt browse because of mtn network wahala. When i checked my bal again it was showing me 0.00 naira. I complained to my sista inlaw who also confirmed to me that she too mysteriously lost her mtn credit. Till this moment mtn is yet to explain what is happening to our credits. |
I had same issue yestaday @ about the same time with the OP. I loaded N200 which was successful, just to browse; but i could not browse. When i checked my bal. it has changed and was now reading 0.00 naira. MTN is yet to explain what happened. |
Pls where are our poly students and graduates? We need you to help us caste ur vote here pls. We need this data to find a lasting solution to this evil and unfair discrimination against poly graduates. |
Thanx. But the issue is now political; it's more of politics than education. |
Pls, all poly graduates, undergraduates, friends and relatives of poly graduates, parents/guardians of poly graduates, staff and lecturers of polytechnics, etc. we need ur votes. Concerned university students & graduates, as well as concerned and sensitive nigerians; pls we need u to help us cast ur votes. Thank you. |
Nigerian government hates discrimination. They kick against the discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS, they kick against the discrimination of albinos, they kick against the discrimination of the disabled and physically challenged. They also kick against the discrimination of gender, religion, tribe or race. Why can't they kick against the discrimination of polytechnic HND certificate in Nigeria? This issue is a serious political issue and should be given serious political attention. All nairalanders who want Nigeria to grow economically should help table this issue to the President and National Assembly for them to bail poly HND graduates out of this unfair and unneccessary discrimination. |

Even with the under funding situation, the polytechnics have been able to churn out quality technical graduates. Let all, Bsc & HND be given level playing ground to prove themselves, and not giving undue advantage to people who lack both theoretical and technical skills. Let Bsc & HND be allowed to compete for the job or whatever without bias. It pains a lot of us that have passed thru both systems to see the HND guys being discriminated against when we fully know that they are better on the job. |
