The Islamic account of signs of end time has actually been happening, too.
We have in Islam the Minor signs and the Major portents, the former preceding the latter.
Among the minor signs, as the Prophet(PBUH) foretold, are:

- The conquest of Jerusalem.

- Widespread wealth and lack of need for charity.

- Loss of trust. One of the manifestations of loss of trust is people’s affairs being entrusted to those who are not qualified or able for that.

- The taking away of knowledge and the prevalence of ignorance; the taking away of knowledge will occur with the disappearance of the scholars.

- The spread of adultery & fornication

- The spread of usury & interest

- The prevalence of musical instruments.

- Widespread drinking of alcohol.

- Shepherds competing in the construction of tall buildings.

- Widespread killing.

- Widespread earthquakes.

- Appearance of women who are clothed yet naked.

- Believer’s dreams coming true.

- Widespread giving of false testimony and concealment of true testimony.

- Large numbers of women.

The major signs(when the day is very near):

The order of some of the major portents is known, and in the case of others the order is not known. Among those whose order is known are the descent of ‘Eesa ibn Maryam(Jesus), the emergence of Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj, and the Dajjaal(anti-Christ), for the Dajjaal will be sent, then ‘Eesa ibn Maryam will come down and kill him, then Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj will emerge.

jeffman:
i got this from an eye witness account

India nigeria game ended 100-1 with the only goal coming from segun odegbami when the indians momentarily forgot to use their juju. but the indians made him pay for it by washing every account of the match from his brain cells so don't bother asking him abt the match. Everytime we want to kick the ball it turns to a rock and the Nigerian player is hurt. every time they kick the ball it turns to any of the following: (1) Lion (2) 100 balls (3) snake (4) fire (watch shaolin soccer)

The thunder balogun story was another matter. he had killed people with shots from his left leg so he swore never to use it. On this particular day they were losing and the golakeeper was his brother shocked he was abt to take a shot when his wife shouted "Remember your left leg" from the stands. he used his left leg to take the shot and it went thru the tummy of his brother killing him. it was said that he had only one bone in his left leg (maybe no fibula).

i thinkthe witness also added that the govt used to use the thunder balogun for demolition of buildings. shocked give the building a left leg shot. fashola would have utilised him very well
I just like Nigerians. Very hilarious set of people. No wonder we are the happiest people on heart!!!

Like Lagosboy said, we should be careful in saying this, lest some people use it as an excuse to totally abandon reading the 'Noble Qur'an(Translation)'.

For those that are not yet versed in arabic, reading and digesting the translated version is not bad, while trying to learn the original arabic text.

Whoever invented this 'intercontinental lie' deserves some form of recognition from Guinness Book of Records.

My own version was made worse because I heard it from a 'reliable source' - my class teacher!

He narrated it with so much passion as if he was there live in the stadium. Gentlemen, I believed him and I still do believe him till today cool
I hope other things he taught you in school were also not fabricated!!!

When my brother used to tell me too, he used to narrate it as if he watched it. Thank God, I have not heard any version saying lions even came out of TV to attack those watching it on TV grin grin grin

Surprisingly, I was also told this as a young boy by my uncle. But the two countries included were Ethiopia and India. They say that that is why thy were suspended from FIFA for some time. I dont believe it, its just im surprised this was also told to someone else.
Can you go and ask your uncle again now?

Another story was the Thunder Balogun story:

Thunder Balogun had incision on his left leg so they warned him not to take shots with his left leg.

There was a bet between Thunder Balogun and a great keeper. That in 5 penalties thunder would not score any.

He took 4 and the keeper caught all the "Penariti" when he wanted to take the last one

A woman just screamed "Thunder Balogun remember your left leg" Thunder Balogun fired with his left leg.

The shot was so hard that the keeper tried to stop it but it went through the keepers tummy and came out

from the back killing the keeper instantly
Yes, this used to be the twin story with the 99-1 story. We were always told both together. Come see concentration. Then we got home and relay to our younger ones, and they also listened with rapt attention.

It is obvious that the story is fabricated. But how this fabrication became 'national' and 'generational' is what is amazing. From Kaduna to Enugu to Kwara to Lagos to even the remotest part of the country, there has not been anybody here that has so far said he didn't hera about it.

Whoever formulated that story deserves a place in Guinness World Records

When we were young this story used to be common. That is, how India used Juju to beat Nigeria 99-1. We were told the ball would turn into rock or lion when Nigeria was playing.

I heard this when I was a young boy in Kwara in late 80s to early 90s. I raised this among my room mates in the University few years back and to my surprise all of them, though from different parts of the country, also said they heard it when they were also young.

Please who invented this 'story'? How did it go round to become a national lie?

Who also heard about this story? Who has idea about how it was concocted?

but let that local champion calling himself Aboutrika stop eating his mother's food every day before and after going to football pitch. Let him go out and face challenges like other players, succeed in those clubs and possibly make it at home, then he will be considered.
I have a problem with this. Aboutrika is not a local champion. Did you watch his performance against teams like Barcelona etc in Intercontinental Club champions in 2006/7(Al Ahly rep Africa Vs Champions of Europe, America and Asia). Egyptian players have tradition of rarely leaving home, not because they cannot match other Africans plying their trade in Europe, but probably because they are satisfied with the bucks tehy are making at home etc. Zaki, for example, left Zamalek, for EPL, and he has being a success in his first season. Mido is also as good as any African player in Europe(with the exception, of course, of Eto'o, Essien and very few others). Ahmed Hassan was voted best player in belgian league last season. Zidan has also being doing well. So it is wrong to claim that those of them that chose to play at home are local champions. They are definitely as good as, if not better than, all the Nigerian, CIV and Ghanaian players that have fame all over the world just because they play in Europe. Or can you name a Nigerian or CIV player(save Drogba) better than Aboutrika(we may debate Yaya Toure)? Yet, Nigerian and CIV players are known across Europe

Riskie:
As-salam alaikum brothers and sisters!Another great Jummah today. The lecture was about mercy and Islam's holistic approach to it. The prophet encourages Muslims to have mercy on children and orphans especially. A kind word to an orphan is considered a very great deed. Taking advantage of an orphan or stealing their inheritance is considered one of the 7 worst sins. Simply running your hands through the hair of an orphan as a kind gesture will give a Muslim the reward equivalent to the number of hairs on the orphan's head.
Even in times of war Muslims are encouraged to show mercy. It is forbidden to harm women, children and the elderly during a war.In one surah (can't remember which lol) it is said that in times of war if the enemy seeks refuge give it to him and treat him kindly so that he may see the goodness of Islam.
We are also encouraged to have mercy on animals. It is forbidden to brand an animal or hit it on the face. It is also haram to hunt an animal for fun. If an animal is not being eaten or used for it's hide it should not be killed. And knives being used for slaughtering should not be used in front of the animal.
Islam encourages us to have mercy in everything we do in this life from our dealings with other people to how we treat animals.
Whosoever is kind and merciful, Allah will also be merciful to him on the day of Judgement.
Moving lecture.

I have gotten a message from GTB, I think, a couple of times on my transactions with them. I have also lost my ATM cards several times and I have had to request for another one. So seeing a mail or text from GTB is something I'm used to.

However, I got an email this morning, purportedly from GTB, asking that there was a mix up in my information with them and they discovered this while updating their records for the new year - 2009.

I had had to fill forms in the course of my transaction with the bank several times, and I knew I had been using address different from the one I used when I opened the account, having changed address. So it was easy for me to fall 'Possible Reason 1'.
I opened the link as directed to update my information, and a form popped up. Not even being asked my account details ever made me think it could be a scam.
I was filling the form until I had a little challenge. I didn't want to rack my brain, and since I had earlier plan to be in the bank later today for another transaction,I decided to ask for more clarifications when I get to the bank. I printed the mail and the form.
Few hours later, after finishing my earlier planned transaction with the bank, I branched at their Customer service desk to complian about the challenge I had filling the form they sent to me. I was surprised being told the mail was not from them. And truly, their website is gtbank.com, not gtbplc.com used to send the mail to me.
If I had filled that form, inputing my account details, and my account drained, na disaster o, because na dat account almost all my little peanut dey o!!!!
The GTB customer care lady narrated to me stories of people that have fallen victims. Thank God o

Sincerely, I have lost confidence in our public security system long ago. A high ranking police officer ( don't know his position but he should be as high as AIG) lives in the same estate with us and there is usually tight security(police) presence in the evenings, and my family members used to feel confident, easily quoting that to claim that our area is safe. But I always dismiss this that we are on our own o. That cannot stop the 'owners' from coming to claim their 'properties'. Afterall, a couple of yaers ago it was reported in papers how armed robbers robbed a police station in Katsina state at broad daylight, carting away the policemen's salaries.

Don't forget Taiwo's attacking flair has been useful to Eagles(goals and crosses/assists) several times. I admit, like many defenders, he disappoints sometimes.
