Standard English is the language of prestige in Nigeria. If you have problems with the Standard variety, you can stick with the interference variety (pidgin) everybody will understand.

All these celebrities are embarrassing Nigerians on social media. People outside Nigeria think the rest of us are dumb.

Buhari, Davido, Kemi Adeosun, Yemi Alade etc should all be banned from social media.

Sorry to butt in. But if at all our celebs were a disgrace, it would've had more to do with what was said than how it was written. As you already know, the English language is evolving constantly, sentences are becoming shorter and unorthodox. Slangs which were once considered vulgar and low class have now become common place in the English vocabulary.

As much as having a good command of English is admirable, it is by no means a yardstick for knowledge. Neither does a lack thereof mean an absence of intelligence. Even with a limited range of words one could still convey the deepest truths, while another could be wordy and yet really say nothing.

I can tell by your writing that you place real value in proper sentencing but that doesn't mean others should be chastised for not meeting up to standard. We all got the message and I'm sure you did too. And that's what matters most, so cut the dude some slack man. One love
