Most dev nations privatise critical sector of their economy where skills,large investment,challenges and competence is required.All they need 2 do abt d fear u stated in ur post is 2 have regulated govt agencies dat check d activities which we have in CBN,NCC,NPA,DPR(NNPC),FERMA,NAFDAC etc.Once dis achieved govt. Can stop pumping large sum of budgets into d dem 2 encourage corruption and waste rather govt ll channel d money 2 other direct social services dat ll benefit her citizens. Moreso privatisation do not neccesarily include certain sector like d police,armed forces,arms of govt. U re not really seeing the big picture that is why u ve been arguing blindly. The Target is not really SUPER EAGLES or any other Nigerian team but RESTRUCTURING CORRUPT AND INEPTITUDE NFF. Now trying to remove dem by either way of EFCC,ICPC etc by whatever govt. agency will attract FIFA sanction no matter how u paint it. This is the confidence the corrupt board are holding on to dare govt. that has been funding football. So in other not to be seen to break FIFA rules, disengage from their competition so we will not be seen like someone who wants to eat his cake and have it.  Thats why we re backing out. I strongly believe this decision is not only because of Super Eagles performance at the world cup cos we re not the worst team but an accumulation of the decay that has been there for over a decade. I think d problem most of us have is a clear understanding about the big picture.

One it is overwhelmingly clear that there is endemic corruption in the glass house NFF.Dis can be seen in football performance in Naija for over a decade.

Secondly the Govt. are the major sponsors till today. Most Private companies have refused to invest big time in Nig football because of the corruption and lack of transparency and technical expertise associated with NFF

NFF always hide under the cover of Govt. Interference which FIFA frowns out but such laws were made by FIFA for the good of football in a civilised and transparent environment

If govt. just try to clean the NFF alone with EFCC, they will still cry fowl to FIFA and accuse govt of interferance which will ultimately lead to ban


Now do we continue to put the future of Nigerian football in a bleak because we re afraid of FIFA sanctions for the selfish reasons of enjoying participation in Int'l football when their is rot underneath hindering laudable improvement


Let us look at what d country stand to gain from this rather than our selfish gains of wanting to enjoy participation of Nigeria in Int'l football when its evident that all is not well.

For me its not about just the dismall performance in d worldcup but a drastic change in d way we do our things. The govt. is just using d world cup as an avenue. So If u ask me I thinks its better for us in the long run.

Though it is going to be painful seeing our young talents and other cadre of teams not participating but that may be the needed price for the change we desire.

Hence the decision to ban herself from FIFA competition to allow govt. do the required overhauling and sanitisation

Jonathan Orders Power Sector Reforms Fast-tracked
• PHCN’s power generation hits 3,760mw • UAE firm plans 230mw power station

Ministry of Power yesterday said President Goodluck Jonathan, has directed it to commence full implementation of the Power sector Reform Act in order to create room for private sector participation and efficient service delivery to Nigerians.
The president's charge came just as the average national power generation by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) hovered at 3,760 megawatts (Mw) with an off-peak of 3,250mw as at last Friday,

THISDAY checks gathered that Shell Afam is yet to come up fully, contributing 345mw against expected 650mw. Some units in Kainji and Shiroro hydro power stations are down thereby drawing down on available generation capacity.
Minister of State for Power, Nuhu Somo Wya in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Yakubu Lawal yesterday, said the President has given the ministry a fresh mandate to fast-track the reform process and break all barriers that would prevent private sector players coming to invest in the sector.

The statement quoted the minister as having said at the weekend while receiving a group of foreign investors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who made presentation on their planned participation in the sector, said the mandate is to the effect that the Electric Power Sector Reform (EPSR) Act of 2005 be fully implemented. "President has given mandate to commence the reform process and break all barriers that would prevent private sector players coming to invest in the sector".

“I have clear mandate of Mr. President to break all bottlenecks to private investor’s participation in the power sector .We are ready to encourage you and we will create the enabling environment for you to actively invest in the sector. Our doors are open to all genuine investors ”he said.
Wya explained that that based on the President's directives, the Ministry will be commencing full reform of the sector in order to encourage the inflow of the much needed investment for the sector.


The partial implementation of this Act before now had led to the establishment of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and unbundling of Power Holding Company of Nigeria(PHCN) into 18 successor companies as follows,Generation-6,Transmission-1 and Distribution-11 respectively

According to Wya, it has become obvious that government alone cannot provide the required investment that would drive the sector for the benefit of all Nigerians, adding that government is open to anybody who has the resources and ready to invest in the sector to come on board.
Wya explained that though most of the power stations in the country are thermal or gas fired based, Nigeria still needs more thermal or gas powered plants adding that investors could easily diversify into other alternative power generation opportunities that exist in the country.

The minister directed the officials of the visiting firm-Energy Trading Group FZC of UAE to meet with the relevant agencies within the Power sector for proper guidelines for investing in the sector urging them to also look at the model on Power Purchase Agreement(PPA) developed by NERC with a view to help them design a sound business plan that will conform with the practice in Nigeria.

He also asked them to meet with NERC officials with a view to obtaining the guidelines for licensing companies that want to operate or do business in the sector noting that relevant committees within the Ministry of Power directly concern with issues on Independent Power Projects (IPP) would also be able to help them fast tract their investment plans in line with the existing guidelines.

The Director of Business Development of ETG, Mr.Mike McCafferty, in his Presentation, said ETG Power is seeking to establish an Independent Power Project with a frame 9 Power plant in simple cycle operation as phase 1 of the project to be delivered within 12 months to commercial operations.

He explained that that phase 2 of the project will incorporate combine cycle operation and that the commissioning of phase II can be delivered within twelve months after commercial operation of phase I, which he said could give 230Megawatts(MW) of electricity to Nigerians.
He said the company has over 33 years of working experience in both Power as well as oil and gas industry across major continent of the world.

And for those who believed everything including their SSCE results were rigged pls check all nigerian online newspapers to confirm that GJ has popular votes even in Daily Trust (anti GJ newspaper)online survey  test of displays his popularity

The fact that GJ is contesting does not mean he cannot appoint INEC chair that will deliver credible polls. The President appointed INEC Chair in Ghana yet the INEC chair announced opposition as winner in an election known as credible. The big question is CREDIBILITY of the candidate except you are telling me there are no more credible Nigerians. The emergence of the man is from consultation in the civil society/human rights group. Left that the electoral reform debates favours NJC appointing INEC chair, GJ would have also welcome it and expediate passage but when the senate invited the INEC chair in Ghana the man proved to them that it is only a question of credibility and making the commission truly independent that is why they dropped that clause in Uwais report. Wait a minute, must they admit everything in Uwais report? Is admitting everything an assurance for credible polls? No that is why they have to look at it from another point and expunge the ones that are not. At least Independent candidacy, creation of Electoral Offence Commission putting INEC budget under consolidated revenue are core part of Uwais report that have been adopted by the senate in the Electoral reform not that they rejected everything. Asking them to approve everything is irrational as it will also expose National Judicial Council(the commission Uwais recommended for appointing INEC Chair) to partisan politics. The presidency has always being responsible for appointments with ratification from the house. Thats hoew modern democracy is run

Please lets be very current on issues before passing judgements. If INEC continues to remain without a chair we are still the people that will still cry foul because the way it is the senate has favoured conducting election 4months before handing over to settle legal disputes as recommended in Uwais report so there is need to be urgent

In d Electoral Reform debate at NASS, making the NJC appoints the INEC chair is not supported if you follow the electoral debate in the hallowed chambers so the President is on course.I remembered NASS invited the INEC chair in Ghana and he admitted that despite the fact he was appointed by the President he was confident in declaring the President's  opposition party as winner of election.This boils down to the fact that it is about the person appointed not neccesarily who appoints. I also believe the presidency did a lot of consultation with civil society and human rights group before getting this guy so is on course. Ghana had the presidency appoint INEC Chair and it worked.

Also, you cannot expect UWAIS report to be taken hook,line and sinker. He is just a humane prone  to errors like us so full implementation cannot be justified and it is not even an assurance for electoral success. A report is meant to be viewed and to take the one that best suit the circumstance not as most of us are calling for.

Lastly, appointment of key officers has always been the perogative of the president even in Ghana who had a successful election, bringing the National Judicial Council to the appointment might expose the Judicial Council to partisan politics,it is unheard. I heard NASS has approved the formation of Election Offenders Commission and the budget of INEC has also been put under consolidated revenue making them fully independent of the Presidency so what else would INEC chair give as reason for not performing? His appointment to me is ok and will be hailed by civil society. The fact that he is not too known before is good afterall we complain when people are being recycled for a position

Please lets take time to read the News Highlight b4 condemning FG's move.

The people affected are people whose presence and productivity had overstayed their time limit in the Fed. Civil Service(Grade Level 14-17).

If I am able to rise to Level 17 or 14 by attaining age 60 or had served 35 years in the Fed. Service what again I am I looking for.

Its painful that its youth like us that are crying foul whereas these are the people in civil service that are preventing young graduates from being absorbed in the civil service to make good inputs

The ND/HND holders they are talkiing about are people who got their certificates so many years back(b4 the 80s) and failed to advance their career and those whose years in civil service had already passed the certificates they have just acquired.

Please lets look very well before putting down our comments. The fact that a woman is a widow and is overdue should not make her stand in the way of new graduates youth who have better. At the end we all cry that FG is not employing when the rate at which people leave the the sysytem is not commesurate to people entering the system. For a viable reform in any country, toes must be stepped on afterall Govt. is packaging training and other resources they need to help them go on with life

We still dont get d point. U ll agree with me dat the package attached to a job is one of the criteria people will want to go for such job.Why do people want to work in oil companys, telecommunication companys etc Is it not because of d pay package attached or u think its just about the kind of work being done there?

The startegy is this. When d pay is good, the job becomes competitive and the fear of losing it becomes obvious.It may not translate to stopping bribery agreed. Graduates can see it as worth joining then a kind of change-over system can be achieved to better the system. Previous govt. b4 Obj had never meant well for the police that is why u see the neglect so that they can be easily used. When u re not assured of good welfare and u re given a gun, what do u think u would be tempted to do? Use what u have to get what u want. When the pay is good and other  things put in place, u can give them warning signal that can put them on their toes by telling them their are many people out there who wants their job. I just believe its a just a matter of time the NPF wll get better.

Dont know why 90% Nigerians are saddist. There is nothing the govt. will do that someone will not read wrong motive into.If Police salary is very small u ll accuse FG of not taking care of them while allocating most of the resources to themselves. Do a research and you ll find out Nigerian Police are one of the least paid in the world and that is why FG is trying to make it a worth while career so that people can be encouraged and boosted. Also caution that u re likely to lose a good job when they start disciplinary measures in the force.

The bottom line is to whom much is expected, much should be given.Left for me I ll support FG paying the least officer 50k then I ll now do a campaign of anti-corruption on them.

While most people have lost hope about our dear country, some of us here are still very much interested because we desire the needed change hence these arguments on National Issues. I want to contribute by saying Goodluck is on course. If he has listed "fight against corruption" as one of his focal programme what do u guys expect him to do when some people/group decide dig into the Okigbo report of IBB escapades. Should he turn deaf ears because IBB is a presidential candidate? What will dat translate to?That some few are above the law, Pls lets put sentiments apart.Duke has also declared running for presidency why is he not witch hunted?As per the Patience money laundery case, I think it should be best handled by another govt. because u cannot judge your own without sentiments.If GJ wades into it and she is cleared people will still cry foul, and even if she is guilty and punished so many people would still see him as stupid.Since GJ will not be in Aso rock 4 life, leave Patience judgement day for another govt. afterall the man should not be made to pay for the sins of his wife that is if she is proven guilty by a competent court.
