The PSW visa is very affordable for any graduate, if they truly had access to the money they had proven that they have to support their living expenses for the duration of their studies, while applying for the visa.

The fees for the visa are easily covered by just two or three months of that 20-hour week limit, especially if you factor in the unrestricted vacation work periods.

And IHS? FHS it’s 600 odd pounds per year for unlimited mostly free access to a world-class healthcare system. In that same US some people are hailing a ‘simple’ ambulance trip to the hospital and treatment for a day for heat exhaustion cost a friend of mine over $3,000 recently. There people are often afraid to call ambulances even when they clearly need urgent medical help.

The ‘average Brit’ you people are slandering here has been paying into the funds that made up that system all their life via direct and indirect taxes, and their parents and ancestors for hundreds of years paid into it as well. And they are still paying the same taxes and NI contributions and whatnot as you are today, but 600 pounds per year is exorbitant?
2-3 months of 20hr limit fir visa fee.. hehe

From India alone, its estimated the UK took $45 trillion dollars in 170 years. Thats aside the over 5 million indians who had to die to support the UK economy. Let's then look at Nigeria and other countries. Not only historically, even today, the UK has continued to drain top resources (brains) from these countries. How much exactly has the average 28 year old Brit + parents contributed?

As someone who came staight into the UK as a higher income earner, I was shocked when the deputy head of my governing body told us during our exams that the 'UK needs us more than we need it'. I did not fully grasp what she meant then but everyday it becomes obvious that every work visa is crafted in a way that for everyone issued, that person + nation has to contribute much more than they receive.

Two things are clear:
1. We are not here because we are wanted, we are here because we are needed
2. We are not being done a favour.

Absolutely! Remember that they left the EU so as to control the border get £350m back into NHS? Has any of that happened?
Lol... and how Europeans were freeloaders clogging the system.
Similar arguments being made today.

The UK economy has always fed off other nations for over 300 years. I see no indication of it changing today...

I agree with this.
Brexit is now being exposed as a failed experiment and it won't be long before the UK seeks out some sort of agreement with the EU to allow labour to come in (more) freely. The average Brexit voter certainly did not vote for increased immigration from black and brown countries (which doesn't even plug the full spectrum of labour shortages) which is why they are now considering ways to address this.

Being in the EU was so much better. Most sectors had a steady and sustainable supply of labour. Construction, agriculture, cleaning, nursing etc ...not just the care sector. And most EU workers were very hard working.

Hopefully the gov is beginning (or soon will) to have closed door discussions on how to plug back into the EU labour market.
Its called knee-jerk for a reason.

The same way folks blame immigrants for NHS waiting times forgetting that the NHS both in primary and secondary care as far back as the 70's had always relied on immigration to keep going.

We have visa schemes targeted for care workers, teachers, seasonal farm staff and drivers.

With the balooning list of folks who are on benefits for being on longterm sick leave, very soon, we'd have schemes for builders, mall staff and maybe even one for the police

Each one of these countries have policies set in stone and most times, they even relax these rules for the better, but UK own is to b*tch about every single thing. Canada has recently introduced new routes and a lot more people get student visas now (I know cos i write SOPs for a couple of students heading to Canada). Australia has changed laws for their post study and actually increased. AU and Canada recently changed rules to allow students to work more hours probably due to the inflation and or effects of covid

Apart from post study and dependent stuff which didn't even last up to 3 yrs, UK has not introduced any reasonable rules to help students. Even sponsorship na war and battle (hence the reason why skilled people take up care worker jobs)

All they do is tighten and tighten the noose and then collect some more money , then moan and complain and complain

I no blame them sha, na make person do another japa inside japa because this japa isn't 'japaing'

angry grin
It's the senseless back and forth that gives folks who otherwise would have kept shut room to make noise.

I remember telling a Brit post-brexit that though it'd favour me as a Nigerian, it would not result in the economic boom he was sold.

Folks arriving should endeavour to upgrade their qualifications, earn more rise to the top of the ladder or even japa from the UK.

The faces whenever an immigrant mentions they're waiting for their British passport and getting a buy to let before they migrate to Australia/Canada is always bliss. All of a sudden, they feel they want you to remain. That is 'interesting' some would say. Lol...

Fact is, Brexit was classic self-harm. Sadly, it's same herd mentality driving alot here.

Good thing this is happening under a Conservative government, I wonder if the public will trust a Labour government with culling immigration

Give it 2-3 years they will go back to their vomit as they always do.

Just 2yrs ago they were begging foreign workers to come to the UK to work through health care visa, they reintroduced PSW so as to attract foreign students, a year later they start moaning about the same people they begged to come here.

The UK is a service economy that depends heavily on immigration to function, so this extreme immigration policy is just for next generation elections (which they are going to lose anyway) , next government comes in and go on their begging knees for foreign workers and students.

I’m not encouraging uncontrollable immigration policies, I’m basically saying that it should be sensible.
Classic knee-jerk.

Just like before Brexit, it was clear the care sector was heavily reliant on eastern Europeans who left after the vote.
There were only 3 options- the government facilitating a wage rise of at least 40% to make it more attractive, a collapse of the sector or lastly, the government facilitating folks from other nations to come take up those jobs.

We know what the government chose.

If that visa route is stopped (quite likely), it's only a matter of 2-4 years before those who came in migrate into other sectors with thesame labour shortage arising again. Just like with the PSW, they'd chase their tail once more while the public wallows in ignorance.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence software that helps you with answers to whatever you need. It’s like your personal assistant. You type in what u need answers to and it provides you with the answer. With job applications, Applicant tracking systems(ATS) would usually screen out your application if you don’t have enough keywords as in the job advert. So to do this without wasting your whole day on one application, just use ChatGPT.

....

I hope this helps
Good stuff. Uses it recently to draft a cover letter and it saved me lots of stress. I first asked it to draft one using the person specification from the job post I copied in.
Next I copied the experience section of my CV and asked it to ammend the earlier cover letter to suit.
Next I asked it to summarise in less than Bleep words. I copied this and put somewhere
Next I asked it to regenerate it all again... which I also copied.

I then manually read thru both, made a few changes and submitted.

AI is shocking.

1st question: Google UK's popular Nurse job sites to see specialties and demand for them.

2nd question: The advantage lies in the number of agencies u would get especially USA agencies. But some agencies don't bother, so you need to sieve those that insist on BSN and those that don't bother....Also, it saves u time that u would use to progress academically vs making money eg BSN holder can kickstart straight with NP( Nurse Practitioner) in USA, though an RN can do Masters too
Good to know. More interested in the licensing criteria for the UK. Looking to get some input from someone familiar with the process what I found online is quite vague.

Know someone who is insisting on BSc nursing (which has been difficult to secure) rather than SON. Her plan is to emigrate to the UK once done. She has the means but I wonder if SON is a more prudent route

Finally, for ltc..

Anyone who's traded it long enough knows it's an eternal disappointment.

Against usd, its held structure well in the run up to its halving next month.

Against eith and bitc0in, looks mediocre.

Since its halving is just 4 weeks away, I'd bid a small bit at 100 with aim for 150-200.
Its not a bag I hope to hold

Finally,,, theres been some chatter about bch and ltc...

Worth pulling up the bch/betc chart for reference

It's been a monotonous selloff and likely doomed to remain that way.

The last time bch was valued this high against betece was over 2 yrs ago..

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole pump against betece is reversed in the coming weeks-months in search for new lows.

I have a small bag which I've held for sometime. Yet to sell, I'm hoping for the 0.015 level to dispose... however, once I wouldn't hesitate to dump if I notice weakness. Have no plans to hold a bag of beans.

Eth looks good on the monthly.

Against usd, last months finish was a powerful hammer candle sitting nicely aboelve support. Usually that should bring a good bounce.

Against bitc0in, it's a mixed bag. Doesn't look as strong. It's been allover for a while and yet to resolve It's proper direction

Still, I just recently bought some eith at 1.9k ish for the first time in a while.

3. Bitc0in dominance... ultimately seems destined to head higher over coming months (bad news for alts)

3. Bitc0in dominance- seems to have confirmed a breakout about a significant level. Not good news for alts.

The unregulated nature of property purchase in Nigeria moreso with lack of access to credit facilities makes it a mine field.
Real estate is almost always bought in cash hence creating a drag on property growth. Except in highbrow areas, you can’t guarantee that those who have cash are willing to buy. Reason why most stick with undeveloped land as it's easier to dispose off. Being a landlord is another wahala.

The devaluation of the naira hasn't helped.

Real estate investment in the west provides a more measured, safe and dependable approach. Regulations are strong. There are huge opportunities in Nigeria, but at the very least, a relatively stable naira is needed

If we get any of the above, I'd add to positions accumulated before.

One thing I've noticed is the drop off in volume since the weekly candle that rallied from 22k to 28k. This could have certain implications but I don't see it across bitc0in/fiat pair on other exchanges
Typically this is either followed by a period of consolidation before further upside or high volume sell-off to test buyers resolve.

One solution to this is for parents to ensure their offspring spend some time in Nigeria or other parts of Africa. Let them know how home is, what made the parents japa and inculcate positive aspects of the home culture to the kids. It makes them confident, because, trust me, pikin wey grow up where people who look like him are very few or non-existent, will have personality issues growing up. The same applies to children from poorer families that attend schools filled with children from richer homes.

The UK is even better as there is a substantial black population. Then imagine for second generation folks in Germany, Norway, Finland etc. All the same, in the eyes of the white man, we are one and the same.
Hehe... I remember one adult telling me she has never been to Nigeria cos she was afraid they'd kidnap her. I had to lecture her that she and her family would be considered poor-average in parts of Nigeria. I blame the parents for not allowing her experience 9ja herself when younger.

Not too long ago, some here were going to put dettol in the water their kids used to brush when visiting Nigeria.. I was wondering if its now a mental health disorder.

Very soon they declare one 'giving back' campaign or another - A venture they almost always fail at.

I am travelled widely to know that the difference between a homeless almajiri, a young emigrating Nigerian dr, an older masters student + family and a second generation wannabe is almost always 'opportunity'.

It's a dilemma. Many think they're woke but decades of experiencing bad media on Africa has a way of affecting their psyche.

Fact is, one can hardly rise above the collective strength of their race. A homeless British beggar may be treated with greater respect than many high achieving Nigerians even in Nigeria simply cos of the skin colour.

I remember a while back when the positive impact Nigerian healthcare professionals bring was being discussed and one here preferred to highlight the example of a Nigerian dr facing disciplinary action to disparange the remaining Nigerian health professionals working in the UK. The funny thing is that they fail to realise that such disciplinary actions cuts across race and many times are racially biased.

Of recent is the habit of comparing bringing ones dependents which is a perfectly legal move (one the uk benefits more from) to other forms of fraud. They should go ask thier parents the basis upon they migrated. A tree is not greater than its roots

This is something I keep pondering on. Many times, many second generational folks I've seen especially in less diverse cities have some identity crises. They're neither here nor there, worse still, they don't have enough numbers or a distinct culture.

Even on this thread, folks using denigrating words for new Nigerian legal immigrants are almost always second generation. Yet they strive to have some 9ja connection cos they want to be seen 'connecting with their roots'

Seems their thinking was their parents belonged to some 'prime stock' of Nigerians that the the white man gave the 'privilege' of immigration. Hence they want to set their own bar for immigrants. Fact is, their parents were just everyday Nigerians e.t.c with some opportunity.

Just stumbled upon this.

https://www.tes.com/magazine/news/general/international-teachers-offered-thousands-move-england

If not that masters students have been bootstrapped into applying for care jobs as a way to remain, I expected something similar with care roles following Brexit and emigration of many eastern Europeans. How a sector where the nation was appealing for folks to come and work has turned out to be one where folks pay 15k for masters and another 5-10k still baffles me.

The UK does not create an age barrier for doctors, nurses, care workers, students, teachers e.t.c it's looking to attract. Still wonder why some have taken it upon themselves to create a hierarchy of postgraduate students based on their age and marital status.
