Kai, only episode 2? lol. Okay I'll keep my mouth shut. You got a long way to go, but you'll enjoy every second of it. The quirkiness, the grossness, the wierdness, the wowness, and the totally insaneness. And if you don't love it, then something is wrong with you, not the show grin

I nominate Penelope Cruz (Elegy, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Vanilla Sky, Sahara, Woman on Top)
Unfortunately of this list I've only seen Sahara . . . and my eyes were certainly not on Penelope, but on McConaughey.

@Jesoul
Come on . . . let's break the stereotype.
Everyone knows the average black person like Will Smith, Halle Berry and Denzel Washington.
Reviewing one of em first will be just the same ol' story. . . Denzel is boring anyways.

Vote for the future, Vote for hotness, Vote for Change, Vote for P-Cruz . . . grin grin grin
Lol. Are you voting for Cruz's acting? or her assets?

That's the worst Travolta movie I've seen in my life. . . bar none.
Then you must not have seen "Be Cool". Think up all the bad descriptors you can, then multiply them by 100, then divide them by 0.0001. Your result should come about 1% close to describing how bad Be Cool was.

I also nominate Denzel. Jk and V3 paid me $100 each under the NL table.
Christianity EtcRe: Divinely Inspired Religious Text? by JeSoul(f): 2:07pm On Jun 01, 2010
Mudley313:
my question is why would god allow such a "divine" book to be altered and tampered with so much yet doom people to hell for not believing it
When you make a definitive statment that the bible has been "altered and tampered with" can you begin to prove it? show where and how much was changed? Or isn't that just conjecture? your personal opinion?
Christianity EtcRe: Divinely Inspired Religious Text? by JeSoul(f): 1:58pm On Jun 01, 2010
Mazaje, how body? smiley

mazaje:
Given that, what would it mean for a Christian to say the text is "divinely inspired?"
It simply means such a person believes the text was inspired by God. Key word being believe.

How would the end result be different from a text that is not divinely inspired?
Quite straight forward. One would accept what she/he believes to be divine and reject what she/he doesn't believe to be divine.

How would you differentiate a book that is divinely inspired from one that isn't?
The crux of the thread. I suppose this answer will vary from person to person, but personally, it's really quite simple and I know you won't like the answer - but one differentiates by Faith.

What specifically was done to the text and/or authors to warrant the label "divinely inspired?"
Some people base their acceptance/rejection of such texts based on the prevailing sentiment or best estimation or educated guesses within academic circles. And truly, that is not an unreasonable position. Personally, I hold that spiritual matters are not academically apprehended, and attempting to do so is tantamount to trying to dig a 1000ft hole using a telescope. In matters of faith, you think with your heart, not just your brain. And where and in what a person puts their faith and trust I do not think should be left to a scholar or expert.

They for example point to some prophecies to show that the bible is divinely inspired. But the problem is that various people interpret the various prophecies differently such that the prophecies lead to more confusion even amongst the Christians themselves.
This is true and unfortunate. As long as we're all humans, we're all different and will see things differently. This I do not think is a direct indictment on the bible, but rather on us, and our shortcomings in being able to understand it and in being able to work with each other.

There should be no cases where the bible says anything that is inaccurate, exaggerated, or false. It should be remarkable in its precision throughout and it shouldn't contain errors of inconsistencies. But that is not the case, so what exactly does it mean for a book or text to be divinely inspired? And how will you differentiate such a book with one that isn't divinely inspired?
But who decides what "precision" is Mazaje? No matter what the issue, from religion to science to politics you can have equally experienced and knowledgeable people/experts on different sides of a singular issue. I do not think there is a universal template that can applied evenly across the globe as a means of "measuring" the "accuracy" or "precision" of the bible. And if spiritual matters are not academically apprehended, do you suppose it is even possible to "measure" the authenticity of the bible? And if we were to just speaking academic-wise, even then, there isn't a general consensus among scholars on countless biblical issues.
PoliticsRe: Leave Yarima Alone - Women Tell Naptip by JeSoul(f): 5:02pm On May 28, 2010
idiopathic:
http://www.leadershipnigeria.com/news/headlines/15577-leave-yarima-alone-women-tell-naptip

Groups of women comprising the Association of Widows and Less Privileged Empowerment and the Hausa-Fulani Women Group of Nigeria yesterday picketed the offices of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP) over what they termed the undue attempt to prosecute Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, accused of marrying an underaged girl. The women said they are against the Child Rights Act because it is a bill that does not guarantee the future of the average Muslim girl. Rita Audu, the president of the widows association, said the reasons why girls in the North are being married out early is because of the fear of HIV/AIDS and other related diseases that these girls might contract if they are left on their own. She added that Yarima had been nice to the widows right from when he was the governor of Zamfara State, and it is unfair that people are spoiling his name all over the country over his marriage to his 13-year-old wife. "There is nothing wrong with getting married at an early age. Most of us were married between the ages of 10-12, and nothing has happened to them. We didn't contract VVF. What is being done is that your husband will not touch you until you are mature enough. Some girls are being kept in their parents houses until they reach the age of 17 or 18, which is the appropriate age for a husband to start having intimacy with his wife according to Islam. “We have been to Egypt to see the girl, and she is in good hands, under the custody of her parents, until she attains the right age before Yarima can touch her," Audu said.
Addressing the women, NAPTIP's Executive Secretary, Mr. Simon Chuzi Egede, e said the agency had received their grievances and would look in the matter. He said Nigeria is governed by rules and laws, made by the National Assembly and NAPTIP is only enforcing the laws, which child rights acts is among. “So, if there are any complains, they should be made to the National Assembly since they were the ones that made these laws.”
I am ashamed on behalf on these women  sad. This is just . . . sad. This manner of mentation is so deeply ingrained in their culture, I scarcely think anything or anyone can make them see or think different. Gosh, this is messed up.

Romeo4real:
Contrary to popular thinking, most wars are not caused by religion - A catalyst? Yes. Contributing factor? Yes, but rarely the cause.
This reminds me of the movie Troy from a few years ago.

Paris, Prince of Troy steals away at night back to Troy - with Helen, wife of Menelaus the Mycenaean King. Menelaus is infuriated at this treachery from his wife and Paris. King Agamemnon - ruler of the entire land, who had for years been dreaming about conquering Troy - uses this as as an opportunity, as justification or reason if you will, to invade Troy. Agamemnon did not care about Helen. He did not even care about Menelaus. He would've invaded Troy one way or another. Helen just happened to be a convenient vehicle for him to ride on.

My point is the same as Romeo's. People who will kill, steal, hate, discriminate etc will do so one way or another, with or without religion. Religion just happens to be their "justification" or outlet for that which already exists in them. If religion didn't exist, they would use something else.

By the authority vested in me by way of the tens of series finales I've watched, I declare that of 24 to be the absolute best!

While I wasn't thrilled with the episodes leading up to the end, I must say that the way everything ended was simply perfect. I tip my glasses to the writers, that was gorgeous to watch. From president Taylor outing herself, to Logan offing himself and his assistant, to Chloe and Cole (shocked he survived the entire thing), to Jack not being killed but placed on the run (they couldn't kill him anyways if they want to come out with the movies so no surprise there).

24, max kudos, that was a brilliant finale to a brilliant show.

Bynum is begining to look like a liabiltiy.
He can't rotate defensive (because of his feet) and offensively isn't doing much aside from providing a big body in the paint.
Game 4 is my problem with the Lakers. Aside from Kobe, any one of Gasol,Odom and Fisher should bear the scoring burden.Instead, all three went to sleep, and Kobe can't do so much by himself.
Kobe for all his brilliance can't carry the team alone on his back.Unlike MJ.

When big men according to the order of bynum struggle with injuries early in their career, they don't last long. Fact. Not a Celtic fan fact, but a fact. Ask Bill Walton.
SportsRe: NBA Season 2010/11 by JeSoul(f): 8:10pm On May 25, 2010
A-40, this is Bynum's 5th yr in the NBA I believe and it is entirely different for big men. Their shelf life is shorter. And compound that by the fact that Bynum is always laden with injuries. I think he's only played one full season, just one.

Same goes for Greg Oden. If you're already battling these kinds of injuries this early into your career as a big man, take heart and start planning for an alternative career. Ditto to Yao ming.

bawomolo:
how is arizona law the federal law when the feds are at odds with the law. huh
Gbam. The million dollar question.
I read the law and posted parts of it pages ago along with the link to the whole thing. The first thing it states is "there are no new powers or authority given to law enforcement other than that which already exists in Federal law".

So why are Obama and co. insinuating otherwise? pick one of the following 2 -
1. They have not read the law themselves
2. They are deliberately claiming othewise in order to retain the "hispanic" vote

even though the overwhelming statistics show that Americans and Arizonans want and support the law. And Brewer the incumbent governor got a 20% rise in the polls since she signed the bill, that's 20%! and almost 80% of the entire state supports the law. Arizonans have spoken, I think the president and his band of clueless airheads should just shut up and leave them alone.
xenophobia is a natural response. the arizona law is xenophobic in nature and majority of americans support the law. hte best americans can do now is to come together and train or re-train arizona police to carry out the law with as little racism as possible bc definitely some racist elements in the police will use the loop holes in the law to do their thing.

but i dont want to be too judgemental on the americans who want to end illegal immigration. it is quite understandable, albeit sad.
Oh men Prez, do you realize the "Arizona Law" IS the Federal Law? there is nothing new. I have read the bill and posted it few pages ago. If you're calling the "Arizona Law" xenophobic then so is Federal immigration law.

Montelik's point is worthy of another highlight:
montelik:
But here is my problem with such a statement. All immigration laws have the potential to be xenophobic in nature. Every single immigration law, whether in the U.S, Africa, Europe, Asia has the potential to be xenophobic. Fact. Also all laws have the potential to be misinterpreted or applied. The solution to such threats is not to criticize such laws or abandon them, but to try and enforce them properly.

I agree and also disagree. Yes Palin is clearly conservative, but if you study her her record in Alaska she isn't beholden to blind ideology either, don't buy the BS.
Abeg no let the casual observer no think say I no love Palin oh!  grin I recall the speech she gave at the republican covention, men I'm not one given to oratorial skills, but dayum! lol

After all why would she have accepted to be McCain's running mate if she was the second coming of Barry Goldwater grin. Personally I think that a political leader need not appeal to every body. They can have strong convictions, they should also have common sense and also be prepared to listen and work with those with whom they disagree. But I also believe then when one starts trying to find perfect balance between two extremes you can often sacrifice commonsense and logic. After all isn't that how Massachusetts got saddled with "Romneycare", wasn't Romney trying to appeal to both political sentiments in fixing a problem, rather than using his commonsense to see his plan was not the best. He was too busy trying to be "balanced" that he didn't use simple logic.
Abe Lincoln didn't appeal to everyone yet he was a phenomenal president.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean "appeal to everyone" - not at all. I meant appeal to people from all sides, not everyone - that's impossible. All in all, I agree with you. Common sense should rule but unfortunately the actors are enslaved to false party loyalty. And everyone is guilty of it.

I recall my economics professor once said "an equal compromise between two fools, is still a foolish compromise". grin grin
Lol. Smart man.

As for Romney. I don't know why I just like the guy despite his flaws. Maybe its the hair smiley
Lol. The hair for where? there's nothing special there now. Granted compared to the other carpets on the heads of lawmakers in Washington, he's not so bad.
