doyin13:LOL, no amen to that at all oh! eh-eh so would you rather prefer a trouble-maker like TO? Tank Johnson? or Pacman Jones? or Ricky "weed" Williams? since when was well behaved and dedicated and hardworking players undesirable? ![]() Okay then which one be your team? Chargers? Dallas? no shortage of drama and arrogance in those locker rooms no be small. |
Lol, what do we have here? some Patriots haters huh? That's okay I would hate the patriots too if I wasn't a fan! Usually fans hate any team in any sport that wins! Esp if they beat their team. Of course a bostonian is going to pick the Patriots, make it #4 for Brady. He deserves it and Davidif is right, how can you say anything bad about the patriot players? yes Belichick can be arrogant but the players are the smoothest, classiest, trouble-free, perfect-citizens of the nfl - and you cannot deny that fact. Blackmamba, get used to it Boston Sports Rules!!!! This is currently the center of the sports universe. From the RedSox to the Celtics to the Patriots, heck even the Bruins are playing well too. I got NE vs. Dallas in the superbowl. So after NE wins I can watch T.O. meltdown, again and turn against his QB, again. |
BlackMamba:Yup tanking certainly does not guarantee anything! take it from someone who lives in Boston! it was soooo painful for our Celtics last yr. So don't count on getting the #1 pick and DR. Anyways Miami should just play out the season, play the younger guys more so they can up their experience and sit the "veterans" who are not producing anything. It'll be better for the team come next yr esp since most of the "veterans" will prob not be there next yr. As for the knicks their problems are endless but if they are serious about change - they should start by firing Isiah Thomas-the virus infecting their system. Why he still has a job is beyond me, hmm maybe he has "dirt" on James Dolan. ![]() |
I almost feel sorry for her, but the way she so vehemently and strongly denounced the notion she took steriods is haunting her. She was such an icon in sports - it's too bad she had to fall this hard. Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and other stars should pay attention and confess now b4 its too late. |
davidylan:abeg Hillary's proposed policies are horrible, settle for another Republican president. |
I guess this shortens his list of qualifications from charming and ![]() |
@Davidylan You said after the N.Hampshire primaries that,in the post-primaries speeches, while Clinton read from notes,Obama spoke without such aid.Well, that was actually a well calculated deceptive ploy. Obama was the only candidate-GOP and Democrat-in both Iowa and N.Hampshire to use a teleprompter. It gives TV viewers the illusion that he is speaking from the heart and helps to solidify his image.
wow really! thanks I-man for that ammunition to slam back at my co-worker who couldn't stop raving about how obama's speech was "from his heart"! and so inspiring and Hillary was reading a script! lol, I'm enjoying this much. Btw where did you hear about it? Hillary has a scary face and eery smile, I was reminded of that during her speech. |
Free wetin? There is nothing like free money, that money has to come from somewhere and it is from the pockets of hardworking people. Meanwhile, welfare scroungers sitting on their backside benefit from this largesse at the expense of the talented and hardworking.
LOL, you are exactly right! that's why I'm saying the dems and all their "free" whatever is what scares me away from their camp! because it is not really free! It's like stealing $100 extra from my paycheck to pay $50 for "my very basic education or minimal healthcare" and then keeping the change! |
bawomol:common now no need to call anyone an idiot, everyone's got their opinion so abeg try and respectfully disagree aight? True Romney has been caught flipflopping (I know him well because I live in Boston) but he's never supported gay rights, Rudy is too over the board for most conservative people - you're right. But remember we're choosing the LEAST of all the evils because Lawd knows no one candidate is close to perfect. McCain is a good choice but thing is that dude wants to bring back the draft! and to that I say a big hell no! Dems are historically prone to "welfare" type programmes and providing free this and that, citizenship for illegals etc while Reps want people to work their way up. Hillary wants to give free money to babies, provide healthcare for all etc. and many other dems are also inclined towards that direction. Now not that the Reps are "perfect" by any stretch of the imagination, they also have their many flaws. |
Panache, this has got to be one of if not the best and most sensible response I've read on this thread! *standing ovation* Lets quote you again: Sentiments aside, the thing working for Obama is that he's a good speaker and colored.100% true! As an independent, I see Obama as a trick by the white majority to prevent the GOP candidiate from a serious contest. It is part of the grand plan to send Hillary packing, so that the Republican can slide to the White House. From one independent to another, you have deciphered the political game to a tee! What's in it for the average immigrant? Nothing!LOL! tell that to all the people who are screaming and supporting him blindly. For instance, most Nigerian families in the Atl,Ga where I live, makes more than 60k/annum, have more than one job and an average of 3 children. The only people who can benefit from Obama win, I mean nomination, are the African-American baby mamas with 5 kids from 5 different fathers.EXACTLY!!! That is what I've been trying to tell my friends. If Obama wins all I and other people who make anything more than $50K a year will look forward to is higher taxes!!!! that will be our reward for working hard and having good jobs. I don't care who wins the White House, because it can't really change much.sadly this is also true. My main concern is how much tax is deducted from my pay check, so I hope and wish that Mitt Romney will steal the race. Democrats don't bring much than WELFARE!Spoken like a seasoned political observer. I hope too a Rep steals the win, they're more fiscally responsible than Democrats who want to provide "free" everything- usually at the cost of higher taxes on hardworking americans. However, America needs a president that people will love to see, trust and like. This will help her PR in the face of the world. That's really the bottomline. And honestly who in the race currently fits that description of a president we can love, trust and depend on? I'm not sure there's anyone. It's a choice btw the least of evils. |
davidylan:TRUE!!! and that is the biggest problem I have with this whole election nonsense. I guess in politics you simply have to chose btw the least of all the evils - and we have some serious candidate evils for 08' |
davidylan:just cos someone questions or points out Obama's shortcomings does not mean they support or prefer Hillary - just wanted to point that out. |
I-man @JeSoulNa true you talk so. But I fear our cries for reason are falling on deaf ears. As soon as another scientist calls us "backward and unintelligent" we will start crying and screaming racism YET isn't this racism just to vote for Obama becos he is black? If a white person came out and said he was voting for Romney becos he's white, that person would be crucified. |
uyai:yes and this was the time the rest of the country was going thru that phase of ousting the Reps out of power and installing Dems regardless of anything. Landslides of Dems won in tons of states simply becos they were democrat. |
uyai:First off I DON'T DISLIKE OBAMA! -just asking people to think before supporting anyone! not based on just skin color. 2. He only paid for the car from his pocket AFTER it was discovered and people put pressure on him to pay the money back. 3. He's only paying PART of the money back - not all of it. He paid the difference in amoung between the caddy and the ford Romney used to drive. 4. You must be naive to think Patrick got in on anything beyond his charm and color and the fact he was the Dem nominee. 5. "FREE" community college for which the TAXPAYERS will pay for. Why should I be paying for another persons son or daugther to go to school?!? Is that my responsibility? Most of his "Free" proposals will be paid for by INCREASING TAXES! what kind of solution is that to people already struggling to make ends meet? |
Kobojunkie, Doomed is the word. and this sums up my frustration with so many black people. Is it too much to ask to at least know where he stands on issues affecting us?Quote from: nwando on Today at 08:48:50 PMWe are surely doomed if this be the reason to have him in office. After all our education and empowerment and advancement, all we can say is "I'm voting for him because he's black"?! and we wonder why whites still look down on us.I don't have a candidate yet, but far be it from me and it would be a disgrace to all my years of education to vote for ANYONE based on their speeches or looks without looking at their track record and proposed polices - at least! haba, na wetin dey worry us? |
Buluti @ Jesoul, am sorry but your analysis is so warped.Lol, Deval Patrick (Mass. gov) is EXCELLENT at giving inspirational and moving speeches - SO WHAT?! You missed the point of what I was tryn to say, which was Many blacks are jumping on Obama's train just because he is black - that to me is irresponsible and shallow and pointless and I used Deval Patrick as a mirror image example of someone who was voted for just because he was black and could give great speeches and was politically "inexperienced". How many people supporting him can actually tell you where he stands on the war? healthcare? raising taxes? education? immigration?, catch my drift? Davidylan JeSoul is only saying the same thing so many blacks said when Obama started campaigning. Centuries of slavery and only seeing white men in power has conditioned them to suspecting any black person seeking power. No, not what I was tryn to say. But that Patrick failed and should be used AS AN EXAMPLE of the danger of simply voting for someone because they give great speeches and are charismatic and charming. Plus the "slave metality" thing does not work here. This is an educated black woman speaking, I would love nuthin more than to see my fellow blacks in positions of authority and power where they can effect real change and I would support them 100%. BUT BUT BUT it is just plain stupid to vote for someone based on their speech-giving ability and charm INSTEAD of the important issues. Like I said above, how many people can intelligently reiterate to you where Obama stands on the war? healthcare? taxes? etc. |
seabiotics:people keep saying hes "foinne" but sorry I just don't see it . My attraction level to him is less than zero which includes politically as well.I dunno if no/little experience is necessarily better or more favorable than someone who's well established in politics. Case in point, I live in Massachusetts, know who else in our recent history was also young, untested, charming, 'handsome', democrat, african-american, from a poor background (and so supposedly knew the plight of & could relate to the avergage american) and was supposed to unite everyone? Deval Patrick - current governor of massachusetts. And right now he has failed miserably. He has to be the sadest excuse for a governor in mass history. What was his first major action when he got into office? bought $20,000 drapes/curtains and a brand new 2007 Cadillac along with other frivolous purchases - with TAXPAYER MONEY! So sorry I'm not riding the Obama train. It makes no difference to me if we elect a black, blue or pink person for president, I just want someone who knows that they're doing and sticks to their campaign promises. and ESPECIALLY NOT RAISE TAXES. Obama is going to give tax cuts to the "middle class" and poor but raise everyone elses, the middle class is defined as on his website as those making "less than $50,000 a year". I'm not in that category so all I have to look forward to are higher taxes right? becos I happen to make more money than most people living in America? that's not fair becos I worked hard for what I have.however it is looking very likely he'll win the democrat nomination - but I think a Rep will win the presidency. |
Noetic, Tayo-D's response is a good and biblically sound one. noetic:1Cor15:21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him It implies just what it says. Christ was the first ever to resurrect and never die (firstfruit), and so it'll be for "those who belong to Him" |
akpanbaba:Can you please show the scripture reference? Christians are charged to be peaceful people and meek towards everyone. But nowhere does the bible tell not to protect ourselves whether it is by means of a gun or cutlass. However I pretty much agree with most of the stuff you said, and like other posters said the christian just has to be cautious and use sense and the guidance of the holyspirit when "protecting' themselves with the use of a firearm. |
longman83:The words of a wise man, |
I must admit your topic threw me off for a second but after reading the post I say GO FOR IT! There's nuthin in the bible that prohibits a christian from protecting themselves and their families. Especially if you have young children. Infact it is your job and duty to protect them. If an armed robber came into your house, threatens the life of your wife and children, not only is it biblical but it is at the very least human to protect them. Likewise if a crazed fanatic comes by threatening you or your family by all means PROTECT THEM and URSELF! just make sure do so wisely. and are legally licensed to own a gun, and must only use it when the situation absolutely warrants it. Kobojunkie:Killing someone in self defence or in defence of another person is not wrong! Yes Jesus died for them too but there are consequences for the actions they've chosen to do. Picture this: you see a person/ a stranger/ your wife/ your child being attacked and you go forth to save them and end up killing the attacker - what were you supposed to do? standby idly? go and call for help? while they kill ur wife or child? try to talk to the attacker? I agree with you though that the poster should avoid getting paranoid. Also understand that reporting to the "authorities" does very little to change anything in Nigeria. |
you both got it wrong. If you hear any christian preach about only God's love and not God's wrath as well, that person is not a christian. When Jesus was on earth all He kept on saying was "repent, repent, repent", if you don't want to be forever seperated from God in hell. Look, this is not about scaring people into heaven or conversion - no. But it is my and every christians duty to speak about God and heaven and hell and the need to repent - whether or not you listen or agree. Zeph 1: The Great Day of the Lord 14 "The great day of the LORD is near— near and coming quickly. Listen! The cry on the day of the LORD will be bitter, the shouting of the warrior there. 15 That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, 17 I will bring distress on the people and they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their entrails like filth. 18 Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the LORD's wrath. In the fire of his jealousy the whole world will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live in the earth. and that day sweeps on like chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD comes upon you, before the day of the LORD's wrath comes upon you. " God is a loving God but make no mistake, His anger is just as fierce as His love. He who has an ear, let him hear. |
After watching this video I felt a renewed urge to share this and remind people of the seriousness of hell and the condemnation of those who refuse God. Nairaland alone is full of lost people and it pains my heart. Please do not be among those who will end up there! Repent and turn to God before it is too late. Mt 7:13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47pe7ixGG9I |
to babs787, khaikhai and olabowale, this is your one greatest problem 1Cor2:14 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. Eph4:17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Try all you want, ask for all the verses and scriptures and proof you want - you will NEVER understand becos you DON'T want to understand or ask God for help. Your hearts are so hardened and unaccepting towards truth that it will make no difference what I, Nwando or anyone else says. khaikhai & babs - you can post a million references here about how scripture contradicts itself - all a bunch of nonsense becos they've been twisted and taken out of context. Becos you can twist and misinterpret the bible and make it say whatever you want it to say if your mind is depraved and lost enough. nwando:Abeg tell them jare! A christian asks other christians a question and we have answered, I guess the jihadists cannot stand whenever truth is being taught anywhere. God have mercy on their souls. |
babs787:2Tim3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. You are trying and failing to understand things pertaining to the christian faith. Look for us to have any form of conversation we need a common ground and you do not believe in Christianity, Jesus or His words or message - why do you bother asking meaningless questions? and yes according to the bible, ANYONE who is not a true christian is an unbeliever. Whether you agree or not. And also according to the bible those people will perish in hell if they do not repent and accept Jesus. and I don't need to prove it to you, the bible says it in zillions of places. Start with Jn3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. ps. I saw the other thread where pilgrim1 challenged/asked you a simple question you still have not provided an answer to, and you're still coming here and asking for more? hmm na wa oh. |
sammyzacks:Right. But please be careful that she is not just making a profession of faith in Jesus becos she wants to get married, but becos she's truly repenting of her sins, and is believing in Him to save her from sin and living a life according to the word of God. |
babs787:LOL, Proverbs 26:4 - Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself. Nevertheless I'll add this though I know you're not really looking for answers, you just wanna start trouble. None of ur questions make any sense my brother. Why would you ask if Jesus was a christian? what kind of question is that and what kind of answer are you hoping to solicit from me? Every word in the bible is inspired by God-whether written by men or spoken by Jesus. Whether or not you choose to believe it is your own cup of tea. This thread is addressed to christians and I'm giving a christian perspective, soley based on the scriptures. |
2Cor6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. why should you even have to ask this question if you're a christian? I'm sure you already know that any TRUE christian cannot be involved with or marry a muslim, hindu, buddhist, atheist etc, The bible could not be clearer about this. |
jayon:They are false prophets and agents of the devil. The gospel is about repentance and believing in the Christ, and not about ANYTHING ELSE. They are preaching a gospel that is not THE GOSPEL: 1Cor11:4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted , 13.For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. |
Sin is doing, saying, thinking anything that goes against what God has commanded us in the bible. If you're a christian, when you sin, you will feel bad becos the holy Spirit will convict you. So it should be pretty easy to know when you're sinning. Also: Jm 4:17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. |
From this its clear what the purpose of tongues was. It was a horizontal communication method of expression. In other words my speaking in tongues (unless it was done to others), served no purpose. Worse yet it had to be understood by others, and if it couldn't then forget it. Think about it for awhile. If all of us use English to communicate what purpose would speaking with tongues serve?Bobbyaf, excellent post! you make couple points that many don't pay attention to. Tongues is all too often a "personalized" thing, people want it for some sort of self gratification or glorification forgetting Paul stressed so much that it should be for the edification of the body. You also talked about interpretation which these days rarely follows speaking in tongues 1 Cor 14:26 What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God. on the contrary you walk into some churches and its a speaking in tongues galore with no interpretation going on and that is unscriptural. |
