RomanceRe: Trust In A Relationship: Should It Be 100%? by JeSoul(f): 11:03pm On Dec 20, 2007
RichyBlacK:
My kind of woman! Bold and never afraid to trust 100%.

The only thing harder (and better) than the all-too-common cautiousness and guarded attitude we see in most relationships today, is to trust completely - 100%!
grin Thank you jare, looks like you and I are in the minority. I honestly feel sorry for anyone who doesn't have that peace of mind and comfort from having someone you can trust 100% - aren't they always worried and wondering? what a way to have a relationship! small wonder many don't last.
Christianity EtcRe: Is It Compulsory For Born Agains To Speak In Tongue? by JeSoul(f): 10:52pm On Dec 20, 2007
I hate to turn this into a hot debate so I'll say this and leave it at that,
You see that? You are eligible to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit/speak in tongues after you get born again,
AKO I like ur zeal. but I don't think any christian will disagree or diminish the importance of receiving/having the Holy Spirit BUT you are trying to equate having the Holy Spirit to speaking in tongues. The bible does not do that. The bible verses you quoted ALL speak on receving the Holy Spirit, and that tongues are frequently the manifestation of it.

BUT BUT BUT

Speaking in tongues is not THE sign of salvation, but A sign. Speaking in tonues is a gift, we all agree on that.
Once you become saved you can or as you say "become eligible" to speak in tongues

BUT BUT BUT
God gives this gift as He sees fit.

Again 1 Cor12:7-11, "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues. But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will."
1 Cor12:29-30, "Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?"

How can anyone possible read these verses and still arrive at the conclusion all believers must speak in tongues?
@Jesoul,

The scripture you refer to in 1 Corinthians 12 refers to divers kind of tongues. It is in a special class like the offices of a Prophet and Apsostles as the list indicates. Do you ask to become an Apostle? No it is a calling, same with the ability to speak in divers kind of tongues.
I have to disagree with you here Tayo. By saying in the preceding verses that not all are prophets, not all have the gift of healing, and logically following, not all have the gift of speaking in tongues, whether "diverse tongues" (as KJV translates) or not.

As to the gift of the holy Spirit with divers kind of tongues it is meant for every believer. the whole church is meant to speak in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:23 So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues,
"If" the whole church comes together and speaks in tongues. Not saying that the whole church should be speaking in tongues - two very different things.
Oh and I have no problem with the church speaking in tongues, I just don't translate or understand any applicable scripture to mean all christians should be speaking in tongues.

Re: Is It Compulsory For Born Agains To Speak In Tongue?

NO.

1Cor12:27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?

Speaking in tongues is a gift from God and not every christian has been given that gift.
If you desire to have it, pray to God for it and He will or will not give it to you, there's nothing you can do beyond that. Most definately do not try to force it or "claim it by faith" and start babbling like a lot of people do. If God has given it to you, it will be there.
But you must also watch why you're asking for it, for the glorification of God and the edification of the body of Christ or just for show?
Christianity EtcRe: Why Did Jesus Tell His Disciples To Buy Swords Before Crucifixion? by JeSoul(f): 1:14am On Dec 20, 2007
babs787:
@Jesoul

Ok grin

What trials are you referring to that needed the use of p[hysical sword?

Hope you are aware that he told me to sell whatever they are having and use to buy sword.

Now sister, since you are saying that he was preparing them for trials, why didnt he rebuke them when they told him that they were having physical swords because he knew too well that they would use the swords for attack?

I did sister

Good but it happened because he never thought that so much people would come for his arrest. My question again; why didnt he caution them when they told him that they were having physical sword?

You get it wrong. If he was not interested in any fight whatsoever, he wouldnt have told them to sell what they were having to buy sword and when Peter showed him physical sword, he ought to have cautioned him against using it but had to tell Peter that it is enough

Please thou shall not twist Jesus' saying grin. If he was not talking about physical sword, why didnt he go against it when Peter showed him physical sword? Why did he tell them that it is enough if he was not interested in physical sword?

Thanks
Do I really need to reply this?
Anyone who's genuinely intrested in understanding that portion of scripture will get it, and anyone who's looking for another way to misconstrue and twist the words and intent of Jesus will continue to do so - regardless of anything anyone says
and babs787 - you are the latter.

@For those who trust God 100% but not their significant others

You should not be with someone you don't trust 100%! why are you wasting your time and hers/his?
I trust my hubby 1000% - that's the meaning of a RELATIONSHIP! Does this mean they will not mess up and make mistakes and hurt you sometimes? no. Human always make mistakes, part of life. But trust in any meaningful relationship should be 100% - ideally.

But it appears that's not the case for most of you and that's too bad - you prob need to dump that relationship.

olrotimi:
hey dnt be too too literal here ehn, he was jus trying to make them realis that they and the xtians in general had a lot of battles to fight in a conflicting world as we see today.personal opinion though. huh lipsrsealed
Olrotimi is right, this portion of scripture (like many others) is not meant to be taken literally. Jesus was simply telling them that things were about to change and they needed to be prepared for the upcoming trials and tribulations they would face.
The disciples did not understand what he meant at this point and hence answered literally "we have 2 swords"
Jesus answered "it is enough" why? when obviously 2 swords were not enough for 11 men to use to fight. He answered "it is enough" as in "you don't understand my point now, but you will later. For now, I've said enough"

If you read further when Jesus was arrested

"Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

If Jesus had wanted them armed with actual swords, why would he ask His disciple to put down His sword here? This shows that Jesus had previously not been talking about a "physical sword" but something else they misunderstood. And His negative reaction here to the use of a sword proves it.

In some primary and secondary schools in Nigeria, there are agents of satan that lure these young ones and initiate them into occultic activities. In the Universities, it becomes Campus cults and demonic fratanities. Outside the Univesities, they now join an esoteric secret society or an ancient occult society. Are you still quoting from the same article? there weren't any "violent reactions and provocations" from any of the people. "Up in arms" means to be upset- that's all! there's no hint of violence whatsoever!

Yes every religion has its bad eggs - but none of them are calling for beheading, murder, death of those who 'disrespect' or violate or abuse their religion. That pastor slept with his brothers wife- a grave & horrible sin. But you won't hear anyone in the church call for his death or beheading. Instead you'll hear about forgiveness - as Jesus taught us.

Christianity EtcRe: Give 5 Reason That Makes U A Born Again Christian by JeSoul(f): 1:15am On Dec 06, 2007
I don't think it would be right to list the 'qualifications' that "make" you saved becos
Eph 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.

Being baptised, speaking in tongues, preaching etc do not necessarily mean a person is truly born again. Now if the topic were "5 signs that a person has been born again" this would be fine.

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Christian groups are up in arms here over a new children's film starring Nicole Kidman and based on an award-winning novel by British author Philip Pullman, accusing it of being anti-religious.

"The Golden Compass" which opens here Friday is the film version of "The Northern Lights," the first book in Pullman's "Dark Materials" fantasy trilogy aimed at teenage readers.

The books by confirmed agnostic Pullman trace the fate of a young girl, Lyra, as she becomes drawn into an apocalyptic battle of good against evil, meeting a host of strange characters along the way including a polar bear, voiced in the film by Ian McKellan.

Evil in Pullman's books is represented by the church, called the Magisterium, whose acolytes kidnap orphans across England to subject them to horrible experiments in the frozen northern wastelands.

"The Northern Lights" won Pullman the 1995 Carnegie Medal for children's fiction in Britain, and the final volume in his trilogy, "The Amber Spyglass" was the first ever children's novel to be awarded the prestigious British Whitbread Book of the Year award in 2002.

With its 180-million-dollar big budget movie, New Line studios is hoping to repeat the box-office success of its "Lord of the Rings" series.

And it aims to tap into the young audiences of cinema-goers who flocked to the five "Harry Potter" films making them big earners for Warner Bros.

But already "The Golden Compass" is whipping up the same controversy which saw the "Harry Potter" series based on the novels by British author J. K Rowling, accused by some on the religious right of promoting witchcraft.

The author's attack on organized religion has been toned down for the film, in a bid to attract as wide as audience as possible, something director Chris Weitz has acknowledged.

"In the books the Magisterium is a version of the Catholic Church gone wildly astray from its roots," Weitz wrote in the British Daily Telegraph.

But "if that's what you want in the film, you'll be disappointed," he warned.

However, the sanitized version of Pullman's book has failed to appease the Catholic League, which gathers some 350,000 members, and which has already been sending out leaflets denouncing the film.

"The Catholic League wants Christians to stay away from this movie precisely because it knows that the film is bait for the books," said president William Donohue.

"Unsuspecting parents who take their children to see the movie may be impelled to buy the three books as a Christmas present. And no parent who wants to bring their children up in the faith will want any part of these books," he added.

The League already took on the movie world in 2006 to denounce the blockbuster "The Da Vinci Code" and its central tenant that Jesus Christ had a child by Mary Magdalene whose descendants still survive today.

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops however has been more nuanced in its approach warning in a review of "The Golden Compass" of its "anti-clerical subtext, standard genre occult elements, character born out of wedlock, a whiskey-guzzling bear."

But it adds that "taken purely on its own cinematic terms, (it) can be viewed as an exciting adventure story with a traditional struggle between good and evil, and a generalized rejection of authoritarianism."

"The Golden Compass" will be released in some 3,000 cinemas and only 60 have so far refused to screen it, according to the industry daily Variety.

"It's this undisguised anti-religious theme that has numerous groups in a lather, but perhaps more of an issue for some , will be the film's lack of exciting uplift and the almost unrelievedly nasty treatment of the young characters by a host of aggressively unpleasant elders," Variety added.
were you seriously trying to compare the teddy bear case to this? shocked

Just because you do not subscribe to a belief, does not give you
the liberty to abuse its personality

Am not a christian, yet i will not abuse Paul. Yet Paul was not even a
prophet. Of course, there is no Muslim, who can abuse Jesus, son of
Mary. We only disagree with the way the Christians paint him. But he
belongs to Islam as well.

The non Muslims' abuse of our prophet, is like yelling Fire in a crowded Theater!
Some people will be patient, but unfortunately, alot will be agitted and
emotional, hence react terribly.
see Davidylan's excellent response to all you said here, there's no need to be repetitive,

I will add though the answer to ur question is I CAN ABUSE, DISRESPECT, MAKE FUN and DEGRADE whatever religion I want. This is America - you should know that. and other non-islamic states DO NOT have to show "respect" for ur religion.
I say again in case you didn't get it, other people are not required to obey or show reverence for your religion or prophet, PERIOD.

and don't even try to play the "i don't disrespect your religion" card the mere fact muslims disagree with the bible and say Jesus is not almighty and hence call God a liar is disrespectful to me. But best believe, I won't be blowing up any mosques or burning any effigies - becos it is ur perogative.

what did you mean by you would not "accept" it? you have no choice but to accept it. Other people are not subject or required to obey or show reverence for your religion or prophet - anyone can make fun of or "disrespect" whomever or whatever they want (as long as they don't break the laws of their land) - freedom of speech, and last time I checked Denmark is NOT an islamic state.

I have been following this post and the attempts made to justify this atrocity have failed miserably! Nevertheless the comedy provided by some posters has been priceless  grin

Now this is the same Sudan countless women and children have been murdered, the same Sudan with Genocide, the same Sudan where legions are starving to death, the same Sudan where poverty and disease is ravaging, NONE of the citizens and clerics saw it fit to take to the streets and protest these inhumane circumstances, none thot it worthwhile to clamor for change and a better future for their children,
but the minute mohamad is "disrespected" they all come out arms flying and protesting and burning- WHAT NONSENSE Can't they see how perverse this is? talk about having ur priorities completely out of wack!

I will not give 1 cent or 1 kobo to all those "Rock for Darfur" "Peace for Sudan" banners on websites and all that hollywood activism - these people are CLEARLY NOT WORTH IT. Let allah they so vehemently fight for provide them aid.

mdsocks:
The sudanese are not correct on this issue.
What i have pointed out, Clearly here is "INTENTION"
i know for sure that the Picture produced in Denmark was to insult the Prophet and that i will not accept.
The british woman was not in any way trying to insult the prophet and this i tottally reject any form of purnishment meted out to her, wink
I think the case should be closed now !!!
So islam and muslims are the only group of people that must never be made fun of or disrespected?  what gives you that right?
Christians, buddhists, taoists, atheists are made fun of daily, Jesus is basically the punchline of every other joke, yet Christians take it, look the other way and move on. You muslims must learn to do the same, you are NOT special and don't deserve any special treatment! angry

It is not a coincidence or by chance you're feeling that tug in your heart, that's God reaching out to you and I encourage you to listen. I don't want you to think though that coming to Christ is a quick fix for everything that's wrong in ur life, no it's not. All the pain and hurt will not disappear overnight, but gradually it will as God heals you, teaches you to forgive and love those who've hurt you in the past. Can God be trusted? it is impossible for Him to change or lie - so you need not fear rejection, hurt or pain from Him. All He ever wanted for us all are good things - I encourage you to listen to Him as He speaks to your heart. I'd love to talk futher with you if you like - hit me up aight?

Not everyone you see going to church on sundays are called christians. The bible clearly tells us that the disciples where first called Christians in Antioch. That is to tell you that after going for missionary journeys in Jerusalem and the rest, they were not known as christians until they saw the Chrislike life in them, they saw the way to salvation inthem, the goodworks and the love for the word of God in their lives, these prompted the name CHRISTIANS. So what are we saying here? If you are a true Christian, you believe in the word of God, you do his will and obey his word then you are sure to make it to heaven, not everyone called christians in these delapating world of ours that is HOLY or heaven bound but those who truly obey the word of god and believe that JESUS died for our sins on the cross of calvary. He bore our sins on calvary, he carried the cross just to set us free from the slave of sin.

Do you believe that JESUS died for you on the cross of calvary? Are you born again? Have you accepted him into your life? If you haven't then make a decision today cause no one knows when HE will be coming to take us home. The bible clearly tells us that HE will come as a thief in the night.
