blackowl:Well he lives there lol, so he's the best person for the OP to get the inside scoop from. However, I would take Dakar over Accra and Lagos. Dakar is simply beautifull. While Accra is neat and peaceful, Dakar is exotic and the kids will really be impressed. Another thing, Dakar is not more expensive than Accra, except that the problem of Language might arise if you dont speak french.Hmm . . . Didn't realize Dakar is nice. What is the safety like in the city? becos that is usually my first concern. And are there a lot of things/attractions for tourists? thanks! |
^I agree. I was recently in both Accra & Lagos and without hesitation recommend Ghana over Naija especially travelling with children. I've never been to Dakar. For "relaxation, culture and sight seeing and of course safety" as you put it, you will enjoy Ghana very much. Lagos has its merits but honestly is not my idea of a 'relaxing' place for a family trip though I guess it depends on which part you're staying - but then the nicer areas are usually ridiculously expensive. Hotels in Accra are also expensive, especially those in the heart of the city so you'll have to do some homework to find a decently priced & located one. Also be ready to deal with some traffic - though not nearly as bad as lagos in my opinion. goodluck and have fun. |
tidytim, surely you could've done better than such a provocative title. I'm going to lock the thread as I see nothing good can come out of this. Pls reach me on the mod thread on top of the page if you have any questions/comments. Please feel free to open other threads within the rules of courtesy and respect for others - and post in the right section. Muslim topics belong in the Islam section. Thanks. |
otheloze:As a christian we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes you will be led to eat with thanksgiving, other times to abstain. There is no hard and fast rule. Just use your God-given wisdom and common sense always remembering to keep honor for God & love/respect for the other person as the only absolutes. Cheers. |
It should & its been moved by MMW/Muki. Thanks. |
jay bee:The best part of this quote. Lagosshia, First off I've been away for a while which is why you and the other troublemakers have been looser than usual - in spite of the very hardwork MMW and Mukina do to keep the place clean you guys still spam and make their lives difficult. Second. You cannot grab a random crime, attach your own label of 'christian man' and then stubbornly insist that it belongs in the religion section. Sorry. The story does not say christian or religion anywhere in it and therefore belongs in this section. Pointing at the immaturity of another poster does not excuse your own. That said, I have had cause to either move or remove a bunch of Frosbel's topics over the last few days - so much for being 'biased'. You don't see what the mods have to move/remove. I will not be drawn into the playground mud-fight both you and frosbel have going on. I am frankly tired of seeing both of you spam the section and will be moving/deleting your topics as we see fit. Feel free to post crime topics that are religious or religiously-motivated - most of which are Frosbel's topics and hence belong in the religion section or muslim section to a certain degree. Any other comments and you know where to find Mukina. Cheers. |
^as I predicted. Thread moved. |
^I'll ask again, which part of this particular story is related to anything religious/religion? please post a direct quote. Thanks. |
^So which part of this story qualifies the thread to be in the religion section and not crime? (edit: I also fail to see where he is identified as a 'christian man'). As I predict you'll be unable to give me a convincing answer expect the thread to be moved to the crime section. Thanks. |
iiiyyyk:--> the corruption problem. money is our problem as well as corruption.Permit me to insist that lack of 'money' is still not africa's problem. We are practically drowning in all kinds of natural resources, enough to sustain ourselves and trade with other continents. Our problem is the mismanagement & abuse of these resources - corruption. |
vescucci:Are you sure it was santa and not his evil, diabolical twin? Hmmmm . . . |
Iiceeee - Howdy? ![]() Am I the only one getting tired & fed up with the writers of FRINGE? They're ruining what was such a promising show. Anyways . . . currently watching Burn Notice from SE01 and Terranova. So far so good on both. |
Happy New Yr folks. Avengers will kick both spidey's and batty's butts. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Nice poster Obinna . . . I saw Bourne Legacy and smiled. I saw Jeremy Renner and frowned. |
buzugee, Pastor AIO:This is funny. lol. This ailment can be quickly alleviated by being very picky with the people you choose to converse with. |
iiiyyyk:Even in developed countries many corps find loopholes to cheat the tax system . . . . I can imagine how much they've been milking the continent of africa. But, lacking a sophisticated tax code, or the people qualified to enforce tax laws, many African countries continue to lose money that could solve most of its financial problems. And what will solve most of our corruption problems? Money is not our primary problem, we have the resources - corruption is the goliath we are yet to slay. |
Ghanian food . . . very good food. I am friends with many ghanians and hence have tried tons & enjoyed most of them. As a west african country their food is much more closer to Nigerian food than say Kenyan. Off the top my head - - Kenke. Similar to Banku in that its made from fermented corn. I'm not really a fan of fermented foods so . . . - Waakye. A combination of rice, beans, spaghetti & dry garri, with fried fish & meat. Very heavy dish! lol. - Shitto. A kind of sauce that is made with shrimp (and some other seafood maybe?) and spices. Eaten with rice, kenke and other foods. - Bo-fruit & Chips. Their version of puff-puff and chin-chin. Darker in color, and 'heavier' in texture but tastes just as nice. - Light-soup. A very healthy 'light' soup as the name implies containing meat, fish and veggies. - Palmnut soup. I heard if you don't cook this soup right you'll be in for a looooonnngg night.lol. others, kelewele (a spicy fried plantain snack), Fishballs (yum!), fried yam (delish), khebabs (if you've had suya, you'll be unimpressed with their version), omotuo (rice balls), all versions of cooked tilapia etc etc . . . the list is long. Any in particular you were curious about? |
I expect Djokovic to have another solid year. Rumor has it Nadal & Fedex beefing a lil' bit . . . http://espn.go.com/tennis/aus12/story/_/id/7466882/2012-australian-open-rafael-nadal-apologizes-divisive-comments-roger-federerSo even the ATP is considering going on strike? |

Nobody is talking about their QB Smith and how clutch he was and has been . . . Doyintroublemaker13, wassup? |
The section goes through seasons . . . where the regulars hibernate for a while. I myself just got back. It always finds a way to spring into life at odd times. Just post interesting topics and quality posts will appear. |
Very funny discourse on this thread lol. Dare2think, I'll cast lots for Justcool MyJoe Dare2think. Not the most popular and will probably not win, but they're all peaceful, thoughtprovoking, funny fellas with solid contributions to various topics. Never give the mods or other posters a peep of trouble or complaint, absolute model citizens others should look up to. Justcool in particular flies under the radar but I make a point to read all his posts as they are full of depth and soul. An absolute genius at the intersection of science & faith that handles both with the highest intellect, wisdom & grace. Justcool, you are the man! lol. Honorable mentions: Justcool, Plappville, Mazaje and the ever scarce MNwankwo. |
Since JayDoubleYa is a mod and therefore DQ'd, I cast me vote for Vicjustice. |
llbhuds:MY brother na so we see am oh. During a quick Q&A session at the embassy a very angry man brought it up and everyone agreed with fury . . . her reply? Sometimes she herself answers the phone, and some ppl/nigerians calling stress you out with questions asking over and over again In short they had no good response. Its really unfortunate something as simple and basic as a phone line does not work at the Naija embassy in NY. |
wonukwuru:What exactly will go on at the ceremony that you believe will be "against bible doctrine"? It may be helpful to keep in mind that the practice of our christian faith does not automatically ban us from partaking of our rich culture and just because something is not in the bible does not automatically make it wrong. Infact, the scriptures encourage us to live as freemen, no longer bound by earthly rules & regulations of "don't do this" and "don't do that" - but instead guided by the Holy Spirit & love. My advice is to try not to offend or create rifts in your family - you do have an obligation to them. This is an important event for your father-in-law and therefore important to you, make sure you do not shun this over a sincere but wrong belief. Col 2: Freedom From Human Rules 16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence. Cheers. |
^that's all the info I have about the ETC from my last visit there. Unfortunately their phones don't work when you call so its hard to get any information directly from them. |
sexkillz:Thank you jare. The simple truth. Small rats trying to make a splash. There are literally thousands and thousands and thousands of churches all over the US, they should go to any of the other 99% that would be thrilled to have them. |
Princessjo, where in the US are you?I found out at the Nigerian embassy in NY few weeks ago by sheer chance about the "Emergency Travel Certificate". Its specifically for people in your situation that have expired passports and can't wait for a new one but need to travel asap. I almost got one if I hadn't gotten my passport on the same day. I'm going to assume the ATL embassy does this too? At the NY office you don't need an appointment for this. You show up and ask to apply for the certificate. I did have to wait a bit to talk to the 'oga' to approve it. And it seemed like a pretty straightforward deal if I had decided to get it. You'll need: -Your old passport -Confirmed flight ticket/information/itinerary -$50 money order payable to the "Nigerian Consulate" ^I'll check the sheet when I get home to make sure I didn't forget any requirements. My mum was once prevented from flying because her Naija passport had expired (Logan airport in boston) so you may not want to take that chance. Naija may let you in, but no guarantee the US side/airline will let you out. Good luck and my condolences on the passing of your mum. It is well dear. As a side note, I'm thinking a thread on Nigerian Embassies in the US will be beneficial, I learnt a whole lot of good information in the short time I spent there that would save so many people so much headache. |
