^Taken care of. He will not be bothering that thread again. Stay blessed my brother. And for wishing Super Mukina a happy Birthday shey you are coming to the party at her house? ![]() |
ThiefOfHearts:Long time oh. Why you just abandon us like that now? I hope you have been beyond well girl. Good to see you around .[size=5pt] Totally offtopic & point: Did you happen to be in Manhattan this past week? say wednesday? somewhere on 2nd ave? if not, never mind [/size] |
toba:I think we need to back track a few paces and ask another question first: is it biblical that one man should be calling all the shots in a church? Or should it be a group/board of elected elders who collectively lead a church? this immediately addresses any and all of the problems of succession in todays modern churches. |
TOH. Hello sister! ![]() |
Good move. Though I'm not sure if UK law has provisions for the prosecution of a 'crime' like this . . . if someone of their own freewill (whether deceived or not) chooses to stop taking their medication. We'll see. I hope if not anything the eyes of many will be opened and they will be snapped back to their senses. |
ATLgal:^Haha. My point just perfectly illustrated. The average NL atheist is belligerent, on the offensive and always seems angry, with a need to bash and denigrate religious people. Lagerwhenindoubt is 'cool' in the sense his posts are not 'angry' and hence cannot be a typical NL atheist . . . unlike some people who know& have already exposed themselves ![]() |
lagerwhenindoubt:Lol. Actually, I have not once confused you for an atheist. I've seen you play devil's advocate on an occasion or two to spice up discussions - kinda like you started on this thread and my initial statement that you do not fall into this category . You're much too cool to be an atheist jor ![]() |
Enigma:^haha. Which is why I said earlier than LG does not fit at all into the category of this thread. I was going to jump on his bit about the rending of the curtain and his 'christian' interpretation of it before you beat me to it . |
^Fire away my brother. As long as you specifiy its for 'christians only' in the title/heading ![]() and oh a locker room is where lockers are kept for storing your personal belongings. They're found in gyms & sporting facilities (among others). A locker room (esp for professional teams like my dear Patriots) is where all the action goes on besides the field itself ![]() |
mukina2:Hehe . . . come join me girl, its pretty cool in here ![]() |
I'm not quite sure why Lagerwhenindoubt is here . . . he most certainly does NOT fall into this category ![]() Enigma:For the most part, this is the only thing that annoys me about our atheist friends in this section. But to be honest, it is only very few of them that gate-crash christian-only topics. We all know who they are. Guys like Mazaje I have zero problem with and have never received any complaints about. The rest can really learn from him. |
^As slways Toba thanks for bringing it to our notice. It shall be taken care of in a sec. Thanks. |
As I said, any non testimonies will be deleted. Open your thread if you want to question them and leave this one alone. seyibrown:My sister how body now? I've been enjoying yours and everyone elses story. Stay blessed ehn ![]() |
Look homeboy Nimshi the topic is for TESTIMONIES. Post one or go and make your own thread about the validity of testimonies. Show the same respect to other peoples topics that you would want them to show you. If you're a christian then you should know what you're doing is not a virtue. This is the last I'll say on this matter here, I will have to delete any other offtopic posts. If you have something else to say go to the mod thread on top of the section. Thanks. |
My sister E! Wassup girl? long time. I hope all has been well with you. If you don't mind, I modifed your title to be a bit more descriptive as its an interesting story. Godbless! |
^thanks for bringing it to our attention. It has been taken care of. Godbless brotha. |
Thread cleaned by me. Sorry to any innocent posters. And for the second and FINAL time, this topic is for CHRISTIANS ONLY. Zatax and nimshi please try and respect the topic and your fellow posters. Anyone who wants to question the testimonies can open another thread and do so. Any further derailment will result in a request for ban. Thanks. |
^Abeg leave the guy jor His points are not altogether outside the scope of the discussion now . . . besides, I'm learning some cool things I didn't previously know ![]() harakiri:Thanks for that info. Greek mythology is just so fascinating to me . . . I know I'm deviating right now but everything from the olympics,"christian festivals, days of the week/months and even a lot of practices done in church today ALL have idol worship backgrounds. To be frank, all people do today is worship a "repackaged" form of idol worship! Now, ain't that something, lol.Lol hol' on der cowboy . . . the heart of your post is definitely on point, but I think you're a bit off on the conclusion. If I may . . . suppose Egusi soup was the soup of creation & choice for native practitioners, and whenever rituals were conducted they used Egusi soup to consummate the act . . . does it mean whenever egusi soup is cooked & served in future generations down the line, they are conducting & consummating a ritual? Whatever significance - or lack of - that a person attaches to what they're doing is what counts. Na perspective wey matter for here. To Usain Bolt he's merely running a race for cash and fame and honor, I doubt a greek thought has ever crossed his mind. |
In this case, I think Joagbaje has been misunderstood. The title was probably meant to invoke a response and he modified it in order to be clearer. Especially because it would be inconsistent with what he has spoken here about his beliefs on islam and also his first 3-4 responses on this thread. I don't think he meant what most people read - just a case of miscommunication. Here lets solve the problem easily: Joagbaje, do you believe christians and muslims worship the same God? Yes or No? Gracias. |
My Indian co-workers don't wear wedding rings (and I've also noticed that the Asians here in general do not wear wedding rings) I finally asked one of them about it. She said in their culture they don't wear rings, instead they were a chain around their neck and that is what identifies them as married. However the men do not wear any identifiers. "Unfair!" I said while laughing, she laughed and replied "yeah, that's the way it is". And also they don't take their husbands last name (I forget whose name they take now) but when they have kids, the kids get named after the FIL or something like that. Very confusing. lol. I'm sure the modernized new generation of younger Indians will adopt the western culture of rings. |
harakiri:Nicely said Harakiri. It is very true that many of our practicies today (not just sports self) are rooted in traditions that many of us are unaware of . . . please do say a bit on the significance of the flame. Martian:Lol lef us jor. Na lie some hardcore non-religious folk are trying to even stop churches & private residences from displaying nativity scenes - if you don't like it commot your eye jor and stop spoiling it for the vast majority who are either fine with it or could care less about it. Its usually a very small minority who are very aggressive and make enough loud noise that it seems like all the world is 'attacking christmas'. They won't be satisfied with," happy holidays" because the "atheists are trying to take Christ out of Christmas". Happy holidays means you can insert whatever floats your boat without alienating anyone. Christmas, Kwanzaa, hannukah, pagan festivals etc.My own bone has always been why does it have to be offensive or 'alienating', someone elses choice of religious celebration? Why do we have to pick a 'safe word' because people are not smart and respectful and tolerant of others enough to acknowledge their religion or faith and let them be? I have no qualms with anyone telling me Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanza, Eid-El-Fitri, Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. I will eat my own share of the cake or cow. Nothing offends me and I would like for my own choice to not offend anyone. They are merely words - adopted and used in a celebratory spirit - people who get offended by such have other more serious problems I think ![]() |
^Harakiri, your point about the historical associations of sports with greek mythological gods is noted. But surely, you are aware of many many activities, practices, occasions that were previously associated with the veneration of idols that are NOW relatively innocuous? that christmas may have had pagan beginings doesn't mean modern day folks like myself cannot hijack it, attach our own meaning and significance to it. ^unless you weren't saying anything to the contrary? if so then pls ignore that bit. @Plappville, Harakiri is right. There's nowhere in the bible that talks about sports. However, I believe we can use certain general guidelines and principles - just like we apply in our lives everyday - in sports. I'm a huge sports fan so this is right up my alley . Judo, wrestling & boxing . . . I think we will all approach this based on whatever cultures we come from. For some cultures, wrestling is an everyday way of life and is even a treasured social event that members of the community take part in. For others wrestling (and especially boxing) is 'barbaric' and has no place in a civilized society. One man's meat - another man's poison. I once saw a program on 'christian wrestling', they were using their club and gym to reach out to fellow wrestlers - how can you hate on that because we don't understand their way of life? So what the does the bible say about sports? Nothing. But it says "Let each man be convinced in his own heart" about whatsoever he does and believes. So if a christian's motives are proper in the sight of God - then the rest of us should mind our own motives. It also says in all things to love, respect and treat your neighbor as yourself - 1Be a Fair & Respectful Competitor. It says to study to show yourself approved, keep yourself alert and try to better yourself in everything and it says to work in whatever you do as though working for God 2Aim to be the Best Athlete in your sport. It says your life now belongs to Christ and you've been created for good works and to win souls so, 3Winning the game isn't everything, representing Christ comes first etc etc. As a side note, I never pray for any team/country to win - that I think is a direspectful prayer to pray and I dare not. What I may pray for is certain individuals on the team, for their success (whether its winning or losing) and that above all God's name be glorified. |
Offtopic posts deleted by me. Offenders you know yourselves. Please christians only, respect your fellow posters and do not derail the thread. Thanks. |
Post deleted by me. The title says "Christian Songs". Please post any other songs on appropriate threads. Thanks. |
I wasn't the biggest fan of "Sunday Best" but for bringing to the stage an incredible singer like Ms Y'anna Crawley I am grateful. And oh for those of you with smartphones, may I recommend the app "Pandora" - an intelligent radio station that selects songs based on your ratings. My best app for 2011 hands down. Y'anna's "The Promise" came on - her raw voice and plain lyrics - it went straight to my soul and has resonated within my spirit since. I love artists that bridge the gap btw trad & new gospel genres, and then twist it with a bit of hiphop. Please enjoy! The Promise - Y'anna Crawley V1: Everybody doubting me, Said that it would never be Everything you promised me, But the moment that I dreamed I found some better company, now deep inside my heart I know I know that you made me a promise Chorus: Jesus your the way and the promise, Miracles are raining down on us The promise, the promise Now I'm steppin’ into my purpose, See everything else is worthless Now that I'm living the promise The promise, the promise, the promise V2: The promise of yes we can, the change of life, more than man see the power of a dream that changes things, A promise nailed up on the cross, a promise that will save the lost the price he paid was everything, guaranteed me a promise Bridge: Now I know you're not a man, that you should lie But trust and believe, and I’ll tell u why You never broke a promise, never crushed my fragile dreams, So I'm standin’ right here, Standin’ my ground Thankin’ you Lord, For the purpose I found I promise together, forever . . . I believe . . . [flash=400,300] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTFMjNd8tgY?[/flash] |
Instant favorite first time I heard it: Your Name (Anthony Evans rendition) V1: As morning dawns and evening fades You inspire songs of praise That rise from earth to touch your heart and glorify your name Chorus: Your name, is a strong and mighty tower Your name, is a shelter like no other Your name, let the nations sing it louder cos nothing has the power to save, But your name V2: Jesus in Your name we pray Come and fill our hearts today Lord give us strength to live for you and glorify your name Bridge: Nothing has the power X3 to save but your name [flash=500,300] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7EGEifaRnI?[/flash] |
igbo2011:How so? Is there any part of the travel alert that is not true? |
Voted. What an adorably handsome gorgeous looking young fella. Hope he wins! You got a lot of votes to go . . . I briefly skimmed the list and you seem to have fewest so far. Don't worry, NL fam will represent for you. Goodluck. |
Yeah heard about this story a while back. The father did the right thing, teaching his sons that honesty is better than selling out for money and having a clear conscience is a better pillow than the one they could've bought with $50,000. Now if it were something much more significant like $1,000,000 bucks will I still say the same thing above? I hope so I don't think the father would've fessed up if the money was a substantial amount - and I wouldn't blame him jare .Now the organization should've honored their honesty and just given the boy the money - maybe towards college or something useful like that. That would've been nice rather than the typical "give to charity" line. |
frosbel:Lol. By my time you posted this at 3am. And it looks like you sef were not fully awake ![]() Moved. |
I can't say how disappointed I am in the NBA officials and players and useless David Stern, that they were unable to swallow their egos and greed, compromise and come to an agreement. Very very disappointing. Where is the concern and respect for the FANS who pay all the bills? and their salaries? Not to mention the local businesses, workers at the concession stands, parking lot attendants, hotel employees etc who will all lose jobs and their livelihood because of the greed of these millionaires and billionaires. They might as well go ahead and cancel the whole darn season to make their insult complete. Nonsense ![]() |
The DEEtroit Lions are 5-0 . . . lemme go and check outside for a luna eclispe Congrats to Stafford and that D-line, they are simply vicious. And see Jay Diva Cutler looking like a betta top notch scramble 'doesn't matter what the defense throws at me' quarterback last night |
