EloSela:
He probably has lot more cash stashed away in Nigeria that the charity commission couldn’t touch or investigate. I mean if it is £120,000 of his birthday alone then what else? I am sure that is just the tip of the iceberg.

I clearly remember attending KICC in Hackney as a student. Mr Ash in his Italian suits and snake skin shoes would ask the congregation for £200. He asked for those who could give £200 to stand up and raise their hands and people started holding up their credit cards and cheque books. Mr Ash then proceeded to pray for those people only. That more or less told me that if I didn’t have £200 to spare then I couldn’t receive prayer and neither was I worthy to be in Church.

I am glad he was investigated and I hope they continue to monitor him because questions need to be asked.
ignorance is never a virtue my dear. pastor matthew didnt know anything about birthday. it was a surprice party by some misguided over zealous people who only knew how to spend what they cannot pay for. if you know pastor matthew you will know he is not one of those people that use money any how. he never forgot the days he was zero ( PO ) as he calls it. he does so much to make peoples lives better than he met them. you never hear of what he does behind the scene. you never hear of the pastors of other denominations he pays in your nigeria to take the gospel to the rural nigeria that most people wont go.

you dont hear of the pastor kids he funds scholarships for. if nigeria had just a 100 pastor matthew, the world would take notice of us.

do you know how much the man struggled to make sure black businesses benefitted from olympics contracts? you dont know the man. you only saw him ask for £200. what was the £200 for? was it to help him feed his wife and kids? was it to help him buy more shoes? lets criticize justly so we dont get judged too.

he is the main kicc person you see on tele you dont expect him to wear rags to make you happy do you?

like every other person he has his faults. if you met him in person and told him all he does is gently say sorry sir it wont repeat itself again.

n-guage:
What I find wrong with this is the fact that husbands and wives have defined roles. Even more saddening is the fact that you speak of these roles using terms like "agreement reached, and breached" that suggests your wife to be a business partner.

Granted I've never been married, but my common sense tells me there's something wrong when married couples have to spell out terms and deal with each other like business partners.

Try seeing things from her POV, I'm pretty sure your wife didn't just wake up one morning and decide to be a rebel. Maybe the roles you "assigned" to her were more than she could handle, maybe she's not happy with you and that's her own way of getting back at you, maybe she's having problems at her job. This looks like what happens when couples don't talk. Communication is never overrated.

some men should be very careful who they allow marry their daughters.  this lady is not carrying another man's child oga husband. she is  supposed to be your freind and wife.  learn to understand and tollerate. if you treat her life a queen you will get a queen.  if all you want is a house girl that is what you get.

if you detest hunger in your belle  detest anger in your belle too especially against your better half.

sorry no offence  meant i know it is not good to feel cheated  she may be going through some challenges she is shielding you from.  i just discovered you are ibo.  igbo men know how too look after thier women bros  why you want give them bad name.  some of your mates wife dont know market  you sit down for NL dey complain.

sorry to dissapoint you oga i am very comfortable in my own skin. you say she is blog writter it shows you dont know her . she is a business woman at her young age with a good magazine and event management company to her name. do you care to know how old she is? it is never a crime to be passionate about what you do. at least she is not sleeping with everything that moves in trouser like most to make ends meet. is that not good enough for you sir? you really believe she is behind this nonsence. you people beleive anything.

sorry to burst your bubble ma'am. we are all not like that. that relationship is history. she has since moved on with her life. she has too much to occupy her to rejoice about someone she could easily help if she knows how. dont go about making enemies with people who dont know you exist. linda is a fine young woman. if you get to know her i bet you will like her. she goes out of her way to do everything to please anyone she knows. dont always beleive the worst of people. she is a very humble and grateful person. she is one of the few nigerians you can take her to the bank.

@JJYOU and Ajengogo, No be fight my pple, I will support Ajengogo's view of the fact that transaction batches are being called over @ the close of business everyday and if such was detected,it will be reversed immediately and quickly . I was formerly in banking operations(as a paying teller)b4 moving to network support(Information Technology). All through my stay in that unit,I have never for once paid without the customer's consent and I don't think it's possible anywhere. You might have a different view and experience when u were working as a banker(I mean JJYOU), pls let's hear u.
o boy i no fit argue with you. even in rural branches of nigeria where u have time on your hands to play with i dont think you bring out signature cards to cross check during call overs. all you do in call over is checking figures and account numbers.
call overs are more carefully done when there are differences in your books not when the books are balanced spot on. if all frauds are discovered during call overs why are we having the high levels of frauds undetected today?

how does a call over person detect a debit was not supposed to go into an account if all the instruments/ entries were rightly drawn and probably some officers verified the signature earlier?

please tell me i am wrong that you now verify signatures during call overs in nigeria.

This was addressed specifically to pastor chris and other "men of God" who have developed an obsession and love for money.

1 Timothy 6:10-11:
10For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many [a]acute [mental] pangs.
11But as for you, O man of God, (pastor chris)flee from all these things; aim at and pursue righteousness (right standing with God and true goodness), godliness (which is the loving fear of God and being Christlike), faith, love, steadfastness (patience), and gentleness of heart.

Ilelobola:
If I remember well, it was since the palaver KICC had with the Charities Commission in 2005 that most pentencostal churches started handing out forms to receive tithes as they were required to have records etc especially with them getting Gift Aid from HMRC, making filings to the commission. I think an inherent belief that most Africans churches/pastors were here to swindle the congregation and perhaps general lack of understanding on how churches work in Nigeria/the rest of Africa (debatable but eh?) on the part of the commission and a lack of understanding of requirements to qualify as a charitable organisation on the part of the churches. CoE takings are so small and almost insignificant that they are not required to do this.

Also, most people do not carry cash around in the UK. It's more convenient to make a donation using a card and I think other churches including the CoE should make the facility available to their congregation.

And no I am not a member of KICC neither am I motivated by their Senior Pastor's teachings but the UK Guardian should not be reporting half truths.
the guardian is a left leaning news paper.  the main reason for the strict record keeping is the gift aid scheme as you said which you will never be entitled to unless you are registered as a charity by you know who. you see the logic.

most churches do not belong to the charities commission and the ECEA Afro caribean evangelical alliance that most belonged to is closing as we speak because of lack of funding so we are left with the general  EA evaqngelical alliance which we should all black/ white belong to  again there is no law requiring any church/ organisation to belong to any organisation in england/wales.

churches like victory didnt register with charities commission and are operating freely.  i think i said this before some of will never achieve in 300yrs what pastor matthew has done in fifty something yrs so can i recommend you shut up.  yes we know you are on NL and not being charged.

U must be very intelligent. . . . . . .

The article clearly stated that his salary comes from his preachings and the proceeds he makes from books and DVDs.
How is that forcing the congregation to part with their money??
Nigerians and their disgusting aggression make me sick to ma stomach.
that article is one mans opinion of the situation so it doesnt matter that much.  if he sits with pastor matthew he will discover money is not in nos 1 - 9 motivation of his life.

it is a free world we can all run our mouth freely especially in cyber space. we live in the part of the world where by law all we earn and spend have to be accounted for and published for public records and even online.  i imagine how many of you will fall flat at the first hurdle if all you do was under scrutiny as some of us.  it is always so easy to judge others.

the guy has tried despite the battles he faced.  there is no stopping him now.  it is too late.  he has made his mark for good or bad in some of your books. he continue to touch lives in ways some of you can only imagine.  show us what you have acheived with all the yrs you have got.  some of you had the benefits of having rich parents plus being graduates which he never had. all you can do is run your mouth.   well seunland is free at point of use.

If this was to happen in Nigeria, the le fenu so peeps (naysayers), would have been shouting he is feeding on nescience and impecuniosity of the people to enrich himself. Now it is in the UK, can someone please tell me, whether the same is obtainable? undecided

yes,he makes money and gets paid a salary but he works hard for that priviledge, people dont go to the church because its k.i.c.c. they go there to listen to pastor ashimolowo talk, his books, vcds, dvd and other memorabilia are borne out of years of painstaking research so he deserves any amount he makes out of them.he doesnt just preach prosperity but financial prudence from a xtian point of view and how xtians can drop the shakles of debt e.t.c
he was the very first person i heard talking about the dangers of sub prime mortgage and credit of any kind

as for what he is building in nigeria,we should be careful not to comment on what we dont know about,he is building an ultra modern hospital and nursing school, not in lagos but a village in osun state tos how how important his sense of social responsibility is
tks i keep saying the succees of people like him exposes the failures some people have become so you should expect these kind of envious write-ups on NL. i bet you will see the same people cursing the man hailing air head footballers earning his "obscene" 100K P.A weekly.

How many churches have told you the % of their ''income'' that's spent on charity?

Kunle, let's face the fact. You are just like a typical Pharisee, who's looking for faults in everything.

They were so fault-minded that even when Jesus healed someone on Sabbath day, they rather picked on the inappropriateness of doing it that day.

Have you read 1 Corithians very well to find out the type of Church it was? Go and check the type of things going on in that particular church as written by Paul in chapters 1 to 5, and also find out if they were condemned even inspite of those things happening.
pls chill na. kunle na our brother.

All the above questions are duplicative so i believe one answer should suffice for all of them: basically Jesus came to reconcile man with god and teach us the right path to follow so that we would live a life that peases God. His central messages were "repent for the kingdom of God is at hand" love God with all your heart and soul""the need to believe in him" and "love your neighbour as yourself" this four messages form the central theme of Jesus christ message on earth and it was all about reconcilling man with God.
oga kunle, thanks for answering questions today.  i read something here in    Mark 10 (New Living Translation)  can you kindly try explain verse 29/ 30 to me.   in lay man terms as you would have discovered most of us here are learning illeterates. thanks.

21 Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!” 24 This amazed them. But Jesus said again, “Dear children, it is very hard[f] to enter the Kingdom of God. 25 In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”

26 The disciples were astounded. “Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked.

27 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.”

28 Then Peter began to speak up. “We’ve given up everything to follow you,” he said.

29 “Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, 30 will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.
31 But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.

oga,  thanks for the offer.  i will like to add that i dont hate you. this is nothing personal. i refer you to the reply  below. sorry i dont do chats online. this is the shoody practices nigerian banks do that get them in trouble overseas. i am an ex banker. nigerian and overseas so i am talking with a litle bit of inside knowledge. last year we discussed intercontinental bank some where here. i was excitted about them cos i am a nigerian. i was shocked when my wife told me they charge for running current accounts. i pointed this to the girl selling us the account her word was " oga what is a couple of hundred of pounds to you and madam".  that was not the point. the point was why do i need to pay for services i get free from other banks.

go check my previous post you will see i general defend banks but not on this one. nigerian banks charge too much and that is official. stop trying to defend the indefefencible. you are not preaching to the choir on this one bros.

I feel sorry for these Gt bank mouthpieces. I never complained about paying for bank statement. Of course, u can print that online. The complaint is simple - I was clearly told about payment for bank statement. I consented. I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT THERE IS A N2,500 CHARGE FOR A LETTER. AND MY ACCOUNT WAS NOT DEBITED UNTIL 2 DAYS LATER. If insulting people with complaints is the best GT Bank mouthpieces can do,  I wish them well. For the oga at Gtbank who wants to take this up, thanks. You can start by going to find out from your customer feedback system, as I did lodge complaints twice. Start by finding out why your customer service will not respond to a simple complaint by a customer.

I will not dignify the innuendoes and insinuations with a response.  I guess some of these guys are too daft that there are a number of nairalanders who are silent bystanders, who don't post, unless absolutely necessary. The day our service providers realise they are not infallible and begin to place value on what a simple apology can achieve, that will be the day.

Thanks guys, for your contributions. Essence of post achieved. Peace.
tks for your IV. have a good day kind sir.

See, it's good to recommend denominations to people, but I have little problem with the idea b'cos your recommendation will be based on your knowledge (what you count to be true and accurate) Don't you think a member of Olumba Olumba will also recommend his church to people? someone has recommended an assembly to me before, only to get there and see an open display of manipulation and falsehood. We can only trust the word of God. while it is true that we mustn't forsake the assemblies of one another, I think personal conviction matters most since we shall give account of our deeds individually.
If only men will allow the Bible to speak for itself and not adding their own thing, if only men will will take God's word as it is without twisting it, THE WORD OF GOD WILL SPREAD Act19:20; 20:32
In conclusion, make sure you have proven an assembly with the word of God(in their teachings, practices and actions) before you recommend it , Remember, misleading someone is not different from killing the person.

Shallom!
there is nothing wrong in recommending something you feel is good to some one. who are we to judge denominations? i know many good cele people who are better and lead christian life than tongue talking, bible quoting, loveless pentecostals.

i dont like my church is better than your church attitude but i can tell you to come to my church and feel comfortable doing it.

this phrase is good
If only men will allow the Bible to speak for itself and not adding their own thing, if only men will will take God's word as it is without twisting it, THE WORD OF GOD WILL SPREAD Act19:20; 20:32
but how do i refuse to go to church because i am scared of wrong fellowships and not violate hebrews 10 :25 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.?

in the midst of our thinking we are the only one standing, can i refer you to this word in

1 Kings 19:18 (King James Version)

18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

God will always ever have a minority that are faithfull. we are not the only people doing right. the church of Christ is always bigger than ours.
