[size=18pt]Pastor Kumuyi’s wife dies at 57[/size] By Sun News Publishing Monday, April 13, 2009 •Pastor Kumuyi Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Wife of Pastor William F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Mrs Biodun Kumuyi, is dead. Aged 57, Mrs Kumuyi passed on in the early hours of Saturday at her residence in the International Bible Training Centre, Ayobo, Ipaja, Lagos. Besides coordinating Deeper Life’s Women Ministry in Africa and other continents where the church has branches, Mrs. Kumuyi was also, until her death, the National Women Coordinator of the church. She was also the publisher of the Christian Women Mirror, a popular international magazine that teaches Christian values and virtues for women. Details of her last moments were sketchy at press time. Daily Sun gathered however, that she had in the past three months been receiving treatment for some aches in one of her legs. Members of the church were having their annual Easter Retreat at the Deeper Life Conference Centre along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when Mrs. Kumuyi passed on at the weekend. Many members of the church at the retreat were unaware of Mrs. Kumuyi’s death as it wasn’t announced at the centre. Pastor Kumuyi, who learnt of his wife’s death while ministering at the retreat, was said to have left for Ayobo. He returned later in the day without betraying any emotions. “The GS did not betray any emotions. He continued to preach. In fact, after learning of his wife’s death, he preached a sermon entitled, Loveth thou me? He told the congregation that in any situation, Christ must come first. In times of sorrow and grief, one must always do the work of God before going on to attend to one’s personal work. That was the thrust of his message. Pastor Kumuyi did not betray any emotion and nobody suspected that he had lost his wife,” a source close to the Deeper Life Church leader told Daily Sun. In addition to her husband, the deceased is survived by an aged mum, two sons, Jerry and John, and sisters. A statement issued by the church said burial arrangements will be announced soon. Meanwhile, prominent church leaders, who described Mrs. Kumuyi’s death as shocking and painful, have been eulogising the late minister’s wife. Dr. Wilson Badejo, General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church, described the death as a rude shock. His words: “It came to me as a rude shock. It was more shocking because I never heard that the woman was ill at any time. Our hearts and those of members of the Foursquare Church worldwide go to the Kumuyi family at this time. We pray God to comfort them.” Dr Badejo described Mrs. Kumuyi as a virtuous woman and the pillar of support behind her husband’s ministry. “She was the kind of woman every minister would pray to have,” he added. President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, described Mrs. Kumuyi’s death as shocking. “Oh my God,” exclaimed the founding pastor of the Warri-based Word of Life Bible Church when Daily Sun sought his reaction. “When? How? Oh my God! It’s shocking because it was the last thing I expected to hear.” However, drawing from the scriptures, Oritsejafor said: “If in this life only we have hope, we are men most miserable,” adding that the fact that Mrs. Kumuyi was born again was enough consolation. “That Biblical saying presupposes the existence of another life. In other words, this life only prepares us for another life. Our joy is that she’s gone to be with the Lord. She is gone to a better life. That is our great consolation. Naturally, her husband will miss her because they’ve been together for a long time.” He prayed that God will give Pastor Kumuyi and his entire household the courage and strength to bear the loss. Catholic archbishop of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, prayed that the deceased’s soul would rest in peace. Said he: “Unfortunately, I never got to meet her. I didn’t know her. But all I can say is that may her soul rest in peace.” Bishop Jerry Nwor of the Spring of Life Global Mission, Obawole Agege, also described her death as a great shock. He told Daily Sun: “It is very painful that such a humble woman of God would go home now even though we know that we will all return to God. I am praying that God should strengthen the man of God who already knows that one day, we will all join her.” http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2009/apr/13/national-13-04-2009-01.htm |

[size=18pt]How we were mercilessly raped by soldiers – Tarkwa Bay girls[/size] By HENRY UMAHI (umahi@sunnewsonline.com) Saturday, April 11, 2009 More Stories on This Section Sunday, March 29 this year was a day inhabitants of Tarkwa Bay, a Lagos island, especially the women, would not forget in a hurry. That day, a detachment of soldiers, numbering over 300 and armed to the teeth invaded the area in the wee hours. Mission? To cleanse the notorious island crawling with iniquities. However, the soldiers not only went beyond their mandate but also added their personal programme. They mercilessly raped young girls and women, at, an instance, in a sex orgy. Narrating their ordeal in the hand of the rapist soldiers, some ladies, who were sexually abused, said that the rampaging soldiers had forceful carnal knowledge of them at gunpoint, in the open and in their rooms. Saturday Sun gathered that the soldiers stormed the island in a commando style at 4.00a.m that day, firing sporadically. They broke down doors and windows. The soldiers also smashed heads and broke limbs. After subduing the residents, the women were raped in turns by the soldiers. It was gathered that after the rape spree, the soldiers took away over 40 people, to the nearby naval yard. Saturday Sun gathered that to escape from the brutality of the soldiers, some of the frightened residents jumped into the sea and swamps in the area. There were fears that some may have drowned, as an unidentified body was seen floating in the sea some days after the operation. One of the rape victims, who identified herself simply as Grace, narrated her ordeal thus: “A few minutes after I entered my room, after dancing with my friends at Blue Dreams Bar on the island, I started hearing the sound of gun being fired everywhere. Fear gripped me and I didn’t know what to do. At that time I was alone in the room, as my roommate had gone out to answer the call of nature in the bush because there is no toilet at Tarkwa Bay. There was commotion outside, I heard people shouting. Then our door flew open and a soldier brandishing gun and horsewhip charged in. I was shaking and he tore of my sleeping gown and raped me at gun point.” Sobbing, the lady from Warri, Delta State, added that after assaulting her, the soldier took her handset, money and trinkets. Asked if the rapist used condom, Grace shook her head and said: “He didn’t use condom. When I asked him to use condom because I had some packs in the room, he slapped me across the face and I almost fainted. He was smelling alcohol. Although I am a hustler (prostitute), I have never seen anything like that in my life. The man was an animal. He was raping me and cursing me at the same time. His manhood is like that of a horse, it was almost coming out of my mouth. I vomitted later. He bruised me all over.” She said that one week after the incident, she is yet to see or hear from her roommate, Doris. Another victim, who gave her name as Sandra, said that she was raped by two soldiers that day. “Two of them (soldiers) raped me that day,” Sandra said reluctantly. “Those men were evil. They took everything I have. They took my phones, my money, my jewellery. One of them even removed the ring on my finger. They are bastards.” She disclosed that none of the men used condom while having sex with her. However, the Benue State indigene said that the soldiers would regret their action thereafter, refusing to elaborate. She said that after the assault, she relocated to Apapa. Another girl, who was raped said that the soldiers behaved as if they were sex-starved. She said that one of the soldiers ordered her to UnCloth and without even making effort to “put her in the mood” just pounced on her. The girl, who gave her name as Ashanu, said: “The soldiers just grabbed me after I removed my dress at gun-point. His manhood was already erect and he forced himself into me. It was painful and I had tears in my private part. He went on pumping me and it took a long time before he released. He just got up, put on his trousers and ordered me to follow him. I cried because of the pains in my private part.” On his part, Ted described his escape as a miracle. “They beat the daylight out of me,” he said, showing his broken skin. “They were everywhere, beating and kicking us like animals. I can only describe my escape as a miracle because I was one of those they caught initially but when I saw the chance I ran into the swamp and waited till later in the day before finding my way out of the place. Over 40 others were arrested and taken to the navy base. They said we were criminals, that Tarkwa Bay is a hideout for criminals. But all of us cannot be criminals.” Another escapee, who refused to identify himself, said that he actually bought his freedom. His words: “I was one of the people the soldiers caught but I gave money to one of them and he allowed me to escape. You know, I have always known that there will be trouble someday at Tarkwa Bay, so I had always prepared for it. I always had all my money inside my shorts pockets. It was from there I gave one of them N2, 000 and he allowed me to run away.” At present, Tarkwa Bay is almost a ghost town, as many of the residents have deserted the place. It was, however, gathered that those who have nowhere to go sneak into the place to pass the night and leave at dawn. The invasion of Tarkwa Bay is coming a few weeks after Saturday Sun published a special investigative report on February 7, exposing the atrocities going on in the island. The report, which elicited effervescent reactions across the country, was entitled, EVIL ISLAND. Tarkwa Bay, Nigeria’s Sodom and Gomorrah, where sex, drugs are done in the open. The report noted: “To talk about ‘zipping up’ or sexual restraint in Tarkwa Bay is to talk gibberish. Around every corner, sex crawls like a disease. Pubescent girls and not-so-young ladies dressed in skimpy attires barter their company to men who have money and willing to spend it. It is common to see couples kissing and smooching openly, irrespective of the number of eyes fixed in their direction. Some of the girls hand over sexual favours, just after some drinks. Indeed, sex is cheap at Tarkwa Bay.” The report further maintained that “Tarkwa Bay is also a haven of criminals. Investigation revealed that the place serves as a hideout for criminals. After committing crimes in other places, some of the criminals retreat into Tarkwa Bay to cool off. Also, some of the men are neck deep into pipeline vandalism. In the place, a 50-litre of diesel sells for N2,000. Tarkwa Bay is in a world of its own. In the entire island, there is not even a single police man.” Perhaps, on account of the report, the soldiers moved in to remove the bad eggs and cleanse the inland. But can evil be eradicated with evil? http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2009/apr/11/national-11-04-2009-02.htm |

Thou my everlasting portion, more than friend or life to me, all along my pilgrim journey, Savior, let me walk with thee. Refrain: Close to thee, close to thee, close to thee, close to thee, all along my pilgrim journey, Savior, let me walk with thee. 2. Not for ease or worldly pleasure, nor for fame my prayer shall be; gladly will I toil and suffer, only let me walk with thee. (Refrain) 3. [size=18pt]Crash: Timber lorry claims 6 lives By MIKE OSAROGIAGBON[/size] BENIN CITY ––A timber lorry has rammed into a commercial building in Benin City with about six persons suspected dead while others are critically injured. Though the injured victims said to be seven Okada riders, including their passengers were immediately rushed to an unknown hospital in Benin City. Sources disclosed that the fate of the survivors was slim because of the impact of the accident. The accident which attracted a sea of sympathizers, The NIGERIAN OBSERVER reliably gathered, occurred at about 10 a.m. yesterday when the lorry with registration Number XA 781 SAP which was speeding from Textile Mill Road failed to stop as it crossed the ever-busy Uselu – Lagos Road before crashing into a shop in an opposite building. The sales girl who was inside the shop died instantly while the stray lorry narrowly missed another girl said to be a phone boot operator. Another victim of the accident, it was gathered, was a middle-aged man with Plaster of Paris (POP) on his leg who was one of the affected motorcyclists returning from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Ugbowo where he had reportedly gone to treat the injury sustained from a previous accident. Although brake failure was suspected, sources however disclosed that the lorry driver had successfully jumped out of the moving timber lorry before it crashed into the commercial building. It was further gathered that the driver who was pursued and finally captured by passers-by was suspected to have been drunk. When The NIGERIAN OBSERVER visited the scene of the accident yesterday, the lorry was still inside the shop while debris of the affected part of the building littered the ground. Blood stains of the victims and smashed parts of their motorcycles were still visible on the spot, even as sympathizers thronged the Uselu-Lagos Road, causing heavy traffic jam. http://www.nigerianobservernews.com/09042009/news/news3.html |

2 Timothy 3 (Amplified Bible) 1BUT UNDERSTAND this, that in the last days will come (set in) perilous times of great stress and trouble [hard to deal with and hard to bear]. 2[size=14pt]For people will be lovers of self and [utterly] self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane.[/size] 3[size=13pt][They will be] without natural [human] affection (callous and inhuman), relentless (admitting of no truce or appeasement); [they will be] slanderers (false accusers, troublemakers), intemperate and loose in morals and conduct, uncontrolled and fierce, haters of good. 4[They will be] treacherous [betrayers], rash, [and] inflated with self-conceit. [They will be] lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God.[/size] 5For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them]. 6For among them are those who worm their way into homes and captivate silly and weak-natured and spiritually dwarfed women, loaded down with [the burden of their] sins [and easily] swayed and led away by various evil desires and seductive impulses. 7[These weak women will listen to anybody who will teach them]; they are forever inquiring and getting information, but are never able to arrive at a recognition and knowledge of the Truth. 8[size=13pt]Now just as [a]Jannes and Jambres were hostile to and resisted Moses, so these men also are hostile to and oppose the Truth.[/size] They have depraved and distorted minds, and are reprobate and counterfeit and to be rejected as far as the faith is concerned.(A) 9But they will not get very far, for their rash folly will become obvious to everybody, as was that of those [magicians mentioned]. 10Now you have closely observed and diligently followed my teaching, conduct, purpose in life, faith, patience, love, steadfastness, 11Persecutions, sufferings--such as occurred to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra, persecutions I endured, but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12Indeed all who delight in piety and are determined to live a devoted and godly life in Christ Jesus will meet with persecution [will be made to suffer because of their religious stand]. 13But wicked men and imposters will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and leading astray others and being deceived and led astray themselves. 14But as for you, continue to hold to the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced, knowing from whom you learned [them], 15And how from your childhood you have had a knowledge of and been acquainted with the sacred Writings, which are able to instruct you and give you the understanding for salvation which comes through faith in Christ Jesus [through the [b]leaning of the entire human personality on God in Christ Jesus in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness]. 16Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action), 17So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work. |
we used to sing you love the world and the things of this world you love [b]the Lord commanded that you love one another you did not where is the love of God X3 in your heart.[/b] a day is coming when we shall all appear before the great Lord of all. when we shall all be tried for our works and words. those who wont make Him thier Lord now wont deny Him the priviledge of being thier judge on that day you remember the song " O what a weeping and wailing when the lost were told of thier fate The Lost were Told of Their Fate I dreamed that the great judgment morning Had dawned, and the trumpet had blown; I dreamed that the nations had gathered to judgment before the white throne; From the throne came a bright, shining angel And stood by the land and the sea, And swore with his hand raised to heaven, That time was no longer to be. The rich man was there but his money Had melted and vanished away; A pauper he stood in the judgment, His debts were too heavy to pay; The moral man came to the judgment, But his self-righteous rags would not do; The men who had crucified Jesus Had passed off as moral men, too. The soul that had put off salvation– "Not tonight; I’ll get saved by and by; No time now to think of religion!" At last, he had found time to die. [size=14pt]And oh, what a weeping and wailing, As the lost were told of their fate; They cried for the rocks and the mountains, They prayed, but their prayer was too late.[/size] Rodeheaver’s Gospel Solos and Duets, The Rode-heaver Hall-Mack Co., Winona Lake, IN, 1925 where would you be? |
