YourHealthlabs: Oga, it used to be like that before. Any science graduate could to the Institute of Medical laboratory Technology do a 2-year program and become an associate, but it was discovered that there were knowledge gaps that a 2-year associate couldn't fill.

Knowlege in pharmacology, physiology, hematology and other clinically-inclined courses became imperative for optimal performance as a fully grounded Scientist. B.MLS curriculum was borne out of that necessity.

Biomedical Science in the U.K is not a 2-year associate. A bachelor is awarded.

In Canada it's B.MLS
http://www.unb.ca/academics/programs/undergrad/fr/medical/

In New Zealand same story.
http://www.otago.ac.nz/courses/qualifications/bmlsc.html

In Aussie,Medical Scientists are not different.
http://www.csu.edu.au/courses/undergraduate/medical_science/course-overview

Americans have taken it to a whole new level. Doctorate of Clinical laboratory Science.
http://shrp.rutgers.edu/dept/CLS/DCLS/

Medical practitioners started out as associate diploma Medical Assistants. Why are you not clamouring that Medical assistants treat patients.

Necessity my brother, that's the key word right there
What you just did was to state the requirements for the award of BMLSc in those schools. In none of those links was it stated that only graduates of BMLSc practice medical lab science in those countries. The AIMLSc qualification is still valid and recognized in the the developed countries. I advise that you go back and make a thorough enquiry devoid of any iota of bias.

YourHealthlabs: You are ignorant. The medical Laboratory Science field is a regulated one . In the U.S they are called Clinical Laboratory Scientists, in U.K they addressed as Biomedical Scientists, In Aussie the title is Medical Scientist. All in all, they Scientists. It is a global trend.

The physiologists, Biochemists and Microbiologists are very important people too, but the training of a Scientist who works in a medical laboratory is more encompassing and comprehensive. Take a good look at the B.MLS curriculum here and abroad, you'll understand

During undergraduate years, Scientists in the medical laboratories were trained in the fields of pharmacology, clinical chemistry,Medical micro, hematology, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, parasitology, blood transfusion science, counselling skills, medical sociology among many important courses. They are fundamentally Generalists with final majors in one the 5 sub-disciplines.

Now how comfortable will you feel if a Biochemist reads an antibiogram or runs an AFB, and then signs the patient's result as a Biochemist.

Everyone can't be a Physiologist, Pharmacists, Physicians, Medical Laboratory Scientists or Nurse.
It's funny that you readily remembered that graduates of MLS are called 'scientists' in other parts of the world, but refused to mention (or ignorant of) the fact that in those countries too, practice of medical laboratory science is not monopolized by graduates MLS. In the US and UK for instance, graduates of biomedical sciences such as Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology etc are usually admitted into internship programs that qualify them for award of associate membership of institutes of medical laboratory science(AIMLS) and to practice laboratory science. Before now, we used to have that in Nigeria. But the medical laboratory council of Nigeria out of sheer greed, cancelled that program and now exclude graduates of related fields from being registered to practice. Now, to answer your question, ofcourse i will feel great so long as the Biochemist does a good job. Afterall if you go to many hospitals today, you will still find many Biochemists who were registered prior to the embargo excellently doing their jobs. Like i stated earlier, the problem is not that those guys ain't good, but that the so called medical lab scientists are simply GREEDY. Not that i care much cos i have since choosen a different career path, but i pity those of you that will still want to come and do Msc or PhD in my department. Nothing for una here!
Health › Re: Doctors Begin Nationwide Strike Today by Jman06(m): 8:23pm On Jul 01, 2014
otokx: Medically qualified is not the same thing as medically fit.

People should call a spade a spade. Lab technologist were usually hnd holders then an amorphous and strange B.tech was given by universities to the same lab technologists and dubbed science lab tech.

Now they are calling themselves lab scientists dropping the tech to distinguish themselves fron lab tech but we all know their history. One went to apply for Masters in Microbiology and was told his starting point is post graduate diploma and he took offence.

A man will always be a man and head of the home, the woman will say she is head of the kitchen but it will end in laughter.
And the same lab technicians now want to bear the title of consultant medical lab 'scientists' even when we know they are not scientists. No wonder they are trying to stop the real scientists(physiologists, Biochemists and microbiologists) from practicing laboratory science as obtainable in other parts of the world. What goes around comes around! Doctors! make una no gree oo!
Education › Re: Just Finished Marking WAEC. I Cry For Our Future. by Jman06(m): 8:12am On Jul 01, 2014
Why are you all saying public schools as if private schools are any better? Infact, public schools still remain the best to attend in Nigeria. My reason for saying that is because most of the so called private schools are merely 'show grounds' where people go to flaunt their wealth, with no serious academic works going on there. During my undergrad days, i had friends who finished from private sec schools mostly from Lagos. Many of these guys scored high grades in waec but were the dummies of the class in the university. One of them who was studying pharmacy was withdrawn from pharmacy and transfered to plant science and technology aka botany because he could not cope. The guy actually had a B in his o level chemistry but can't even balance common chemical equation. My younger brother wrote his waec exam last year in the same nigerian public sec school the op is trying to discredit, and made 4 A1s, 3B2 and 2B3. So op, put the blame where it rightly belongs which is the lack of seriousness on the part of those students whose scripts you marked.

At this present time i cant count on a typical south south man to willingly stand up in union with a igbo man to go into battle of succession, so lets not risk our future championing the cause of the south south.in stead lets politically negotiate on how to conquer the apc.

I can bet my balls to the fact that you are not an igboman. No igboman would exhibit this level of cowardice you are displaying here. How did you even conclude that only the SS and SE would vote for GEJ in 2015? FYI, there are many people of good conscience from the SW and even the north who would vote for GEJ. All he needs is a block vote from the SE and SS to add to what he would score from other regions to win the election. Even APC thieves understand this fact and that is why they are making frantic efforts to reduce the number of votes the president would garner from the SE and SS. However, i want you to mark my words today: JONATHAN WOULD WIN 2015 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION CONVINCINGLY.
Leave because he pointed out that taxpayers' money were missing ? This is the problem with jonathan's bootlickers, you attack the messanger instead of addressing the issues at stake. Sanusi was bad in your own thinking but tell me he was wrong when after the press conference Iweala and Diezani admitted that money was indeed missing.

You want people that will help you cover your corrupt administration but if they don't, you start name-calling. Well Jonathan can as well appoint Dokubo as the next Cbn governor so he will keep mum to the unprecedent corruption in this regime !
You are so pathetic! So you think Sanusi did the nation any good by making the false claim that a wooping $48.9b was not remitted into d federation account by d NNPC? Do you know what that means? It means that Nigeria's apex bank governor is IGNORANT of the modes of remitting money into the federation account by government agencies, and that is the height of INCOMPETENCE. In a saner clime, Sanusi would have since resigned without being told to.

That Igbos cannot stand their grounds politically but 'd swing to any direction hausa muslims and their southwest counterparts want them to go. That 'd spell doom for the political future of ndi igbo! Besides, Jonathan has done well for us and deserves our unalloyed support. Governor Sullivan Chime has performed very well! The transformation i saw in Enugu this xmas was monumental. However, he needs to pay more attention to rural areas, especially in the area of rural roads. Specifically, there's this road that needs urgent attention and that is Amagunze/Ihuokpara/Ezza-Agu road in Nkanu-East LGA. The road has become a nightmare to rural farmers and traders in the Area. Recently, contract was awarded to Arab Contractors to rehabilitate the road up to the boundary between Enugu and Ebonyi states at Ezza-Agu, however, to my greatest dismay, i found out that Arab Contractors abandoned the work at the Akpugo end of the road. The fate of the remaining portion is what nobody can tell right now. That same road also connects Ihuokpara and Nara; the home of the Deputy governor. I wish i have the finances to do the road! Governor Chime should please and please open up that road,as doing so would help reduce cost of foodstuff within Enugu metropolis and add to the revenue of the state, since more Farmers from These Commumities including those from Abakaliki would be enticed to transport their farm products to Enugu.

Mr Aboki: I'm not celebrating him at all.. as I know how he gets the jobs that gives him money..

His reputation (at least for this his particular company) is very bad.. But that does not affect his account balance.

And it would take more than a tiny issue to bring him down. When you are that wealthy, you play by a different set of rules. Even Cecelia Ibru is not poor, despite the mess she created for herself. I have dealt with many companies and sorted them out, but this guys matter is a hard one for me to crack. The guys connect seems to be very tight and the people backing him in government are highly placed.

His ways are very crooked..
All Nigerian billionaires have government backing! Don't make it seem as though it's only Emeka Offor. All of them including Dangote, Otedola, Jimo Ibrahim etc are cooperate thieves.

They are only interested in resource control and that is why they have choosen to turn blind eyes to the various transformation programmes of Jonathan's administration. So, good as the idea sounds, i doubt it would materialize.

fiizznation:
rubbish•
Sorry I had 2 cancelled this epistle because it doesn't make sense•
Pastor ayo aka bling-bling is screaming abt the northen xtians being marginalize which r lies frm a suppose man of God. Is he trying to tell us all the senators, the governors, commissioners, the honourables members of d house both at the federal level and state level r all muslims?
He even mentioned the sarawa pple as being treated badly by the northern muslims.
My question here is:

Are these sarawa pple represented by a muslim in the NA ? Is it not a xtian that represent them?
Is pastor Ayo telling us that the muslims in the S/S r not also marginalized ?
He also said the northern governors r busy building mosques while churches r being demolished• He shd bring his proofs were a governor demolishes a church and built a mosque there•
In kaduna state for instance, the last mosque that the state government built was even projected by the late governor patrick yakowa which is about 2 or 3 years ago•

What is the pastor even saying?

Has he ever visited states like bauchi, sokoto, borno states that he keeps mentioning?

He said christians r being leached in north •

Does this pastor even hav an idea of the pple that they boko-haram r killing in the north east?

Are boko-haram killing muslims or xtians in borno/yobe states ?

Go to any state in the north today and u ll find churches there.

But go to the SE and u ll be surprised that u hardly find a single mosque there. Is the pastor telling us that the SE dnt hav muslims among the pple of the SE ?

Is this man even representing the xtians? He f00lishly said he bought cars and shared them to pple, was the money he used in purchasing those cars really his? And is that even the best way on allevating poverty?

U gave pple 30million jst because they lay a baseless complain to u, is the 30million even urs? And is that not even promoting corruption?

And why r u even telling the world how charitable u r? Are u planning to run for the office of the president someday?

Even the pope himself doesn't hav a private jet but this man owns one•

Is he even suppose to preach politics in the church?
He didn't preach against evil acts like:
1. Kidnapping
2. Corruption
3. Human Rituals
4. Prostitution
5. Fraud
6. Rape
7. Etc etc

but he jumped into preaching politics in the church because he has sold his soul to the devil and he is also a beneficiary of the looted money being stole by FG

pastor Ayo may God deliver u frm what u hav become

Amen
I can bet my last cent that you have not being to the SE,hence your errorneous conclusion that there are no mosques there. Despite that virtually all the muslims in the SE are from the north and SW,yet they have their mosques and go about freely without being killed the way christians are killed up north.

alaoeri: Which southern muslims are treated equally with their xtian counterpart? Have u ever heard or visited Agbor or Auchi areas of Delta & Edo states respectively and see how injustice is being melted on the muslims minority? Am very sure bling bling pastor is aware of these happening in his domain yet he kept mute just because they ain't ppl of the same faith with him & accusing the northerners what he's also guilty of, political man of GOD. smh
Yes, muslims are treated badly in the south and that is why they are the ones ruling virtually all the southwestern states. You said that muslims in Auchi are marginalized, yet Adams Aliyu Oshiomoleh, a muslim from Auchi, is the governor of Edo state. Get your facts right and stop crying foul where non exists.
Politics › Re: 2015: I See Danger Ahead — Oritsejafor by Jman06(m): 6:38am On Dec 29, 2013
The condition of the christian northerners is truely worrisome, especially those of them in the northwest and northeast. Prior to my sojourn in the north, i thought all northerners were muslims like some people try to make it seem. But my first and best friend on campus happened to be a christian from nasarawa state. I got to know that even in far away sokoto and borno states, a handful of christians exists. However, all these christians have one thing in common, and that is, marginalization or betterstill, enslavement by their muslim neighbours. It is appalling that some people here have resorted to castigating the CAN president instead of making useful contributions on how to address the issues raised in the interview. We should be talking about how to rehabilitate those Nigerians in refugee camps in Cameroun and other places, how to build schools for those christian youths just like the FG is building almajiri schools for their muslim counterparts, how to get the Bauchi state government to reinstate the removed headquarter of Balewa local government area and present staff of office to the elected paramount ruler of Sarawa nation, how to address the various injustices against northern christians just like southern muslims are treated with equality despite being in clear minority.
