Kobojunkie:
The country has been trading national progress for the sake of the poor for decades now and what has been the response from the poor in that time? To breed and multiply like rats. The population of Nigeria is expected to Ballon to over about 370 million in the next 25 years if current trend continues. Before the removal of subsides , the situation was already bad for the poor. Do you think it is going to get better 25 years from now if no drastic changes are made to correct the many problems in the country now? undecided

2. The poor need to change. And adversity typically presents the best opportunity for the change needed. undecided

You think you are making sense bro.
Something happened in 2002 and we are in 2023.
Cassava has very little uses. It has little or no economic importance. People are moving to renewable energy. Cassava has no economic strength, simple!

I'm not sure you understood what you wrote yourself. If the total cassava 'economy' is very small, what do we stand to gain even if we control 100% of it ??
Hmm. Read what I wrote again. This time s.l.o.w.l.y.

Ok, let me simplify it further, using numbering.
1. International trade in cassava is a small market today (In fact, we're not currently growing it as an export commodity, as most of what we grow is consumed here. Something important happened in the cassava industry in 2002 that told me a lot about that sector, but I won't bother you with that.).
2. But huge opportunities exist for its GROWTH.
3. Number 2 is true especially because the world is hungry for bioethanol, as it's running away from fossil fuel.
4. If 2 is true and there's money to be made, people will go into it, we will scale up production the way Malaysia scaled up palm oil.
5. Other countries too.

I expect you to come back and repeat the same you've already raised 3 times and received a response to - before and above.

I dont understand your first paragraph, do rephrase.
The demand for cassava is very very low. Its not something that makes sense economically. Comparing cassava to palm oil is very hilarious. What is the total world revenue from cassava ??
Understanding comes with reading to understand. Read what I wrote, and then read what you wrote in response in bolded. You don't understand, so you're repeating yourself and raising a point I already admitted and responded to.
Politics › Re: "For Commodification Of Naira, Use Cassava" - Journalist Advises Tinubu by JuanDeDios: 5:42pm On Sep 27, 2023

Economic feasibility: the degree to which the economic advantages of something to be made, done, or achieved are greater than the economic costs.
Say every country agrees to this plan, how much will it generate, less than 0.5bn.
Now, we have to agree to pay china in yuan, US in dollar, etc. Whether they use our cassava, we must get their own currency to pay them for whatever we get from them. Remember that we are largely consumers than producers.

Who'll loose out economically (economic feasibility)
What are you talking about? So the US has to get Venezuelan currency anytime oil is paid for in dollars? We're talking about China sourcing naira to pay for cassava - no, we don't give them yuan in return.

Do you know how much Malaysia was making from palm oil in the 70's? Zero dollar. How much they're making today? Google it (you know a thing or two about googling). You're ignoring the vast opportunities for expansion that exist cassava since the world is trying desperately to run away from fossil fuel and looking for the likes of ethanol. And 0.5 or how much you say it is currently isn't nothing - since there is no cost to commodifying the naira using cassava.

rex21:
Bro, we should build our currency around something that is worth less than $4bn annually ??
Wetin you dey explain sef.
Moreover, we can always ask for naira in exchange for our goods. Nobody is stopping us, the question is the economic feasibility.
How does using the cassava to commodify the naira amount to "building our currency around" it or stop you from using it for other things? Is it either or?

And what's "economic feasibility"? You're out of our depth.

rex21:
So, what is stopping us from requesting for the naira in exchange for our cassava ??
Look at the figures i googled, how true are they ??
I've seen the figures. We produce 25%. We eat a lot of it, so we don't export 25%. But we're still the largest player as far as that commodity goes - so we can still go for it.
Politics › Re: "For Commodification Of Naira, Use Cassava" - Journalist Advises Tinubu by JuanDeDios: 4:38pm On Sep 27, 2023
rex21:
So, what is stopping us from requesting for the naira in exchange for our cassava ??
That's what will happen if this policy suggestion is implemented and it succeeds. Right now, you, rex21, can't just show up asking a Vietnamese trader to pay in cassava - he doesn't have it. But if our government makes a policy around it, our trade minister will reach out to other cassava-producing countries, and once they agree, bingo, anybody coming to buy cassava, whether American or Russian or Vietnamese, will already knows that he has to find naira to pay for it. That way, the naira is tied to a commodity (cassava) and that is "commodification".

That's guy needs to explain more.

Am interested .

I think it's best we do research on what this man is saying

Honestly he is making sense
He is. Crude oil is priced in US dollar, forcing you to change your money to USD to buy crude oil. Palm oil is priced in Malaysian currency. Why can't cassava be priced in naira since we produce 25% of the world's output, forcing other countries to change their money to naira to buy cassava?

No body is against them the method with which it was done was bad

Naira was floated he only reversed ot when it moved passed 800

Subsidy was removed when it got pass 650 they brought back subsidy
Yes, they panicked and reinforced the I&E Window (with its prohibition lists) when it crossed N800 - and that has made the problem worse as predicted. The floating should have been allowed to stay since the I&E Window does not benefit the real sector. If floating had stayed, it won't have risen to the N960 or so that it is now since every dollar would be going into the same market, with zero opportunities for round tripping.

If you were the president, what method would you have used to remove subsidy?

Not true. (Not that I support subsidy removal and naira certainly hasn't been "floated".) You have zero understanding of what's going on.

Fair enough. But it all started with the economic blackmail by the British, in insisting that new entrants to their schools had to drop their traditional religion and get baptised.

The bandwagon effect can be compared to the speed of a tyre increasing as you roll it downhill. The BRITISH started the rolling.
I agree with bolded. We should have stood up to it though. The Europeans had it worse: I mean, when Europe was "Christianized", EVERYONE complied, you had to fall in or nothing. The same is true of places where Islam took over. This seems to be the nature of these two desert religions. But today, the Europeans have "received sense" - as we say here - and secularism is marching on strong. I hope our people too get there some day. With the coming of the Internet and the sharpness of them Gen-Z, there's hope.

That's the Hebrew word for Christian.

Please don't tell me that Christian is not a root word for Christianity.
Yes, in English, Christian is the root word for Christianity - I guess "root word" was the wrong phrase for me to use when talking about etymology. Christian and Christianity are different words.

Yes, if memory serves me right, "Christian" appears in the book of Acts. However Christian (follower of Christ) is different from "Christianity" (religion of the followers of Christ). To appreciate the difference, you have to remember that Christianity was not a distinct religion in the first century, it was merely a sect of Judaism.

Thus, while the original word for Christian can be found in the original written in Aramaic or Greek, that of Christianity cannot.
