babbs45: But I never said in my post that he needs to come to nigerian, if he happens to win the dv. He can adjust his status so far as he's a student. Exactly what I said in my post.

I mentioned consular processing in my other post answering a question about ILLEGAL immigrants who win the dv lottery. Since they're out of status, they are advice to go process their application from their respective countries. And their chances of getting the visa is slim because they broke the law.

Two different post, copy?
babbs45: Proceed with your student visa application. And if you happen to win the dv lottery and you are in the state, you'll not need to go back to Nigerian to continue the process. You'll take the adjustment of status route. So it is going to be a win win situation for you. All the best.
Ok sorry. I thought you were the one that said that. Don't be angry. I don't mean it that way. We are all learning and here to correct ourselves.

babbs45: You probably misread my post. How different is what you're saying from what I said?
Does he need to come back to Nigeria to process it?

Amefrica: Amefrica: Hi house, pls look into my case.. I applied for DV 2014 which I was not chosen in May selection. And now I'm a prospective student of a University in Minnesota, I already paid for the VISA fee and other stuffs, my interview is sometime around 2nd week of October.. I heard there'd be another selection in October and I'm planning to apply for 2015 DV too which I heard Nigeria would be eligible.. I just need advise(s) from you guys.. Cuz STUDENT VISA does not automatically make me a citizen.. Should I go on with my Student application and if I gt granted, and also gt chose in the DV what would I do ?
If he is doing Adjustment of Status, he does not need to come back to Nigeria to process it. He comes only if he is doing Consular Processing which I don't think it would be applicable to him should his student visa be successful.

ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS
The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) permits the change of an individual's immigration status while in the United States from nonimmigrant or parolee (temporary) to immigrant (permanent) if the individual was inspected and admitted or paroled into the United States and is able to meet all required qualifications for a green card (permanent residence) in a particular category. The common term for a change to permanent status is “adjustment of status.” The INA provides an individual two primary paths to permanent resident status. Adjustment of status is the process by which an eligible individual already in the United States can get permanent resident status (a green card) without having to return to their home country to complete visa processing. Consular processing is an alternate process for an individual outside the United States (or who is in the United States but is ineligible to adjust status) to obtain a visa abroad and enter the United States as a permanent resident) This pathway is referred to as “consular processing”

ewhoma: Ok. So d email is KCCDV@state.gov right? And in what format do I send d forms and passport photograps in (as I suppose I'll just need to download, fill, print, scan and send right)? And the body of d email, what do I write? That I am correcting some errors made in d first form I sent or what. Pls, I need a step to step direction on dis as I dnt want to make anoda mistake. Thanks for ur help. God bless u.
The email address is correct. Just download, fill, print, scan and attached before sending. Note: Remember to quote your full name, DOB, CN in the body of the message. As for the passports, I don't think there's any need to attach that. Except you have issues with the previous one as well. Although I sent mine as a pdf, I don't know if you can do that as well as it is advanced. Then the Subject, you can write Re: Update on .... form.

Use email. I used email when I wanted to update my forms as well. They acknowledged receipt and it was added to my case. Using courier would cost you much.

ernestleon: Congratulations and I wish you a successful interview.I just hope people will stop wondering#out#loud#
Is there anything bad is wondering out loud in a case such as this? When as far as I know, you will be notified of your interview at least 4-6 weeks before interview. We have lots of folks that are current for October like you that haven't gotten there 2NL except recently the forumite whom you responded to. I am not doubting yours, you should know that. I was just wondering so others can comment on the issue , should there be a new policy I am not aware of. Ernestleon, I still wonder out loud why you are thinking this way of me. *laughingoutloud*

YessWeeCan: The process is no longer rigorous with MTN SECURITY NUMBER follow the steps below:
1. register for a security number
2. visit mtnonline.com
3. select mtn customer care
4. click on web self service (wss)
5. finally enter your security number in the column provided.
with this you have your profile which include your "call log". best of luck.
Yes you are right. I remember now. They should do that.
TravelRe: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by kevweflex(m): 4:47pm On Aug 29, 2013
VisaOfficer: Greetings! I have no idea when KCC sends out the notification letters. All I know is my little piece of the puzzle, from the moment the cases arrive at my post until the interview is done.

Yes, we will be interviewing 2014 DV winners starting on Oct. 2, 2013.

You CAN ask us to reschedule your interview if it's scheduled for an inconvenient time, but the closer you are to the end of the DV season (Sept. 30), the riskier that is. For instance, at this point we are unable to reschedule any more DV cases. If any of you have been to see us this week, you can see why! We have more applicants than we can handle, because so many people waited until the very end. Our waiting room is full, full, full!

So it's possible to reschedule, especially early in the season... but it may become less possible as time goes by.

Best of luck!

YessWeeCan: Oh really, but is it possible for her to get a cover letter from the law enforcement agency stating the purpose for the request, with an attached copy of the letter given to her by the CO. will this help? am just thinking aloud.
Yes it will. You would have to go to the police, the police will now get a letter from the IG via the CP. A letter or affidavit (I'm not sure of what it is now) from the court. The police will now have to go to the Telecoms themselves. All these process, my broda, will cost you money and time. I am talking from a personal experience. At some point, I was really disgusted in the whole process, but I had to go on because of what I needed it for. I am not discouraging you though. I am just telling you my experience.
TravelRe: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by kevweflex(m): 1:55am On Aug 29, 2013
YessWeeCan: @damohreal, in addition to the above:
1. If you have facebook conversation print it out and take it along.
2. Approach your mobile network provider for copy of your call log. it is well with you.
I don't think option 2 is gonna work. Talking from experience. They will never divulge such information to you. Except law enforcement agents.

Freshie: True, everyone married woman pls take note. You don't have to get another international passport, but you may have to carry your marriage certificate with your international passport for anything that requires your identification as the wife of your man. I have aunties that do that so I know it happens.

My wife and I decided personally to do a new one for her. Cheers! grin
But a forumite here advised otherwise --Kunlexymore-- He said they had to spend $300 in the states to get a change of name. Doing it here is cheaper. Note: I am not saying your wife can't use her maiden name, my point here is the cost implication. It's cheaper here in 9ja, so I'd rather it's done here before visa approved on the passports other than having to do it in the states when necessity demands. My take.

Made payment inside the hall and submitted credentials( no1 collected d x-ray).

ok ok ok. *excited*. If this is d case, then you've got no problems. To the best of my knowledge, we've gat two experiences here in this thread which maybe likened to urs. One was given visa and to come back for their baby's after birth, because they insisted on theirs first. The other was asked to come back after their child's birth like your case. No. I think three experiences. The third one went back after baby's birth i.e. naming ceremony was also conducted. Of these experiences, I can't remember their names though, they are all members of this forum. Other forumites can also attest to this. So based on this and that you have passed your EDD, I can boldly say, you've gat nothing to worry about. They guy or babe fit just show now. And I also believe the embassy would respond to mails of utmost urgency, even though they have volumes to attend to. It's just a guess though, it's not definitive, I don't work there.

That is exactly what the VisaOfficer said which I equally posted. But the clause is that it must be academic subjects like maths, english, etc and not trade subjects which I guess, note I said "guess" could be food and nutriton, textile and etc.

Wow. 7 months pregnant, 1 month and few days left for the rounding off of DV2013, naturally you have two months to your EDD. Not trying to scare you but all this time I have outlined above are 'parallel'. You should have asked the CO if it would be possible to still print DV2013 visa after midnight September 30th.
The 2013 DV season ends at midnight, September 30. That means that any visas that was unable to print before midnight, Sept. 30, cannot be printed.
I suggest you contact the embassy via email to get this clarification and if any adjustments could be made.
Thanks.

This is from VisaOfficer. Just felt we should know this prior to interviews, and I quote:

Good morning! We do recognize NECO results. Applicants must have 5 scores of 5 or better in 5 different subjects on the WAEC, SSCE, NECO, or NABTEB certified exams; or they can qualify with a BSC degree, HND, or OND from an accredited university or polytechnic institution.

The WAEC or NECO subjects must be academic subjects (for instance, English, biology, math, etc.). Trade subjects, such as plumbing or garment making, do not count for the DV program.

We really, really like it when applicants bring scratch cards so we can verify their results. smiley

Good luck!

Guys don't get me wrong. I wasn't specific on anyone when I used the word 'silly', neither have I hushed anyone from asking even if sometimes I'm tempted to do so, if they knew they won't ask. I was just simply expressing my views. Please I don't claim to know it all. I am also learning from here too. It's a free forum and anyone could ask. I was just thinking out writing. That's all. Pardon me.
All I want is for us to make research and read so we don't misguid ourselves. I just don't like it when someone is being misguided. Our aim will be defeated if that happens.
TravelRe: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by kevweflex(m): 3:11am On Aug 25, 2013
Freshie: Hi, pls I would like for you to read as carefully as you can. I am not an authority so I can't claim to have all the answers but I will tell you my personal experience. Personal, as in me and my wife, not that I heard the story from someone.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU SHOULD KNOW IS THAT THEY LOVE HONESTY.

I feel excited about having to share this cos it ended well. I filled in for the 2013 entry like everyone else in 2011. I no even get girlfriend then. Results came in October 2012, I had a girlfriend I was hoping to marry (I had known her as a friend since 2008). I already sent the forms back to them as single last November before I proposed to her this January.

We got married in April and I immediately started worrying about what would happen to our new marriage if I had to travel without her and our expecting baby, I could not imagine it. I used to have nightmares! Of course I got a lot of different advice from people: I was told that if you filled as single and show up as married, they could get suspicious and deny you the visa. I let fear creep in and I did nothing about it. (If I knew better I would have contacted them telling them my status had changed and sent them supplementary forms for my wife). Everyone said I should go as single (there is a BIG problem here when you want to file later and they discover your marriage certificate then says you were already married at the time of your interview and you failed to mention it).

I did medicals, police report and birth certificate alone and went for the interview on August 14. Some said I should take off my ring but I said I would not deny who I am so I kept it on. Remember that I was also praying that something would happen that would permit me and my wife to travel together, I didn't know how it would happen but I kept hoping. I also took my marriage certificate just in case they saw my ring and asked for proof I would show them so they would not deny me my visa. When I got into the interview room, the lady that checked my documents saw my ring and asked if I was married. I said "I am now".
Officer: Ok, where is your wife?
Me: She's at home
Officer: Isn't she travelling with you?
Me: I would love that very much but I filled the form as single so I don't know how that could happen
Officer: You could travel with your wife, we don't say that because you won the lottery that you shouldn't get married or move on with your life
Me: shocked
Officer: Where's your marriage cert?
I gave it to her and she said "Hold on let me make a copy of it". When she returned,
Officer: I can't get that smile off your face right? I'm sure you can't wait to tell her cheesy
Me: I sure can't!
Officer: Here are the forms you submitted last year, I need you to edit these categories to include your wife's name, date of birth, place of birth and date of marriage. Here, use this pen.. (I felt I was dreaming!)
Officer: You just get successfully interviewed by the CO first
Me: Thank you!
(She even told another colleague of hers and both of them were looking at me and smiling).

My interview with the CO was interesting. The guy drilled me like no other, and he made me feel very stupid with the look on his face when he asked why my wife wasn't here and I said I was told it would complicate matters.
CO: I can't believe I'm hearing this. Who told you that? We expect that you should notify us in the event your status changes. This interview surely can't be concluded until we interview your wife! You will need to come with her and with proof of relationship(photos).
CO: What do you do?... Where do you work?... Tell me some websites you have done (since I said I was a web designer)...
CO: Your name isn't at the bottom of the website, how do I know you did it?...
CO: When can you come back with your wife for another interview?...

When I got back home, a lot of my folks were skeptical that the opportunity had been lost. One even said, "When they see your wife's tummy now, anyway let's see"
We used last weekend to quickly go do police report and medicals. We also printed almost 40 pictures of the proposal day, the trad, the registry wedding, pictures from last year when we were still dating.
On the day of our rescheduled interview August 22, we even forgot my wife's visa fee of $330 at home!

At the end of the day, we were granted our visas, and even advised not to travel immediately cos my wife is heavily pregnant. Another CO joined the one interviewing us and told us that we should have the baby here, then send an email and they will immediately invite us to come with the baby's birth certificate and passport picture so we could be issued a letter to permit us travel with our baby. Last week was awesome for me because yesterday, August 24 was my birthday! God truly showed himself.

So here's my advice to you:

Say the truth, let the woman swear an affidavit at the Ikoyi High Court that her age was incorrectly entered by the person who submitted the entry (you see, they don't expect you to have done everything yourself), let them get married and keep enough pictures of the ceremony. They should also get pictures from before they got married to show that some relationship existed before marriage. Then get all the required documents ready. Lastly and most importantly, pray believing that you're talking to a living God, don't pray with fear.

The bad thing about lying now is that you will have to remain on your guard for the rest of your stay there. The day they discover you lied, you will be in trouble. Another first hand experience I saw same day August 22 was a woman shaking with tears of joy after she was granted a non-immigrant visa. She lied about something in the year 1982! Yes, that long ago! The CO just asked her a question and she came out clean. CO told her "if your answer was not this, we would be having a very different conversation right now so I say congratulations, your visa will be ready at this address..." Apparently she had been banned for many years from entering the US.

So my brother, that's my advice to you. I hope you take it. All the best to your sister and husband!

Sorry for the extremely long post! grin
