Education / Re: Who Is ASUU Really Fighting For? by khadaffi(m): 9:06pm On Jul 26, 2022
Nazgul:

These suggestions would be great if implemented. The only disadvantage of this suggestion is that tuition fee of government owned institutions would skyrocket and might even overtake that of private schools.

Such development would make it almost impossible for the average Nigerian parent to comfortably train his child in the university.

If the average Nigerian parent does not train his child in the University, is that a crime? University Education is a scam and irrelevant. If the system was working, every SSCE holder should be able to get a decent job and start his/her life from there. If you then decide to further your education that should be your choice and responsibility not your parent. The system is failed that's why we rely on parents to still be training someone who is above 18 years. If we want our educational value to rise government should make the university autonomous. Most of the institution problems will even be solved faster. Sex for grades, incompetent lecturers, lecturers deliberately failing students and so on will be solved faster.

I'll drop my comment. Let me cough first

Edit
This issue had been previously overflogged here on NL. I think around 2010 or 2011, before that NL crash .

ASUU is another political organisation. I pity for any silly student that joins ASUU in castigating the government. I graduated in 2007 and before I graduated, every strike ASUU engaged in they kept saying they were fighting for student. And my questions has always been how? See I know my position is not the popular one but if we all sit down and apply common sense you will see the sense in what I'm saying. Now ask yourself, how many of these top ASUU chairman kids attends schools in Nigeria. If we are saying our leaders destroyed the country ASUU are among the leaders destroying Nigeria and the earlier Nigerians realise this the better. A Professor is a Nigerian leader, A VC is a Nigerian leader, etc

Now here is the crux of the matter. There is no reason why any of these civil servants (Doctors, teachers, journalists, Police, Army) should go on strike, I repeat no reason. In Nigeria however we have seen doctors going on strike abandoning patients who might even be on life support to die simply because government did not pay them enough. How crazy does that sound. It is also the same madness that has continually occurred in the teaching profession. Now I'm not holding brief for government. Nigerian government has been useless over the years to say the least. There is no civil servant that will tell you today that he/she is satisfied with what the government has done in their agency and praise the government. But how many of them do you see engaging frequently on strike? I want to use the Nigerian Army in this regard as a case study. These guys has never gone on strike even when it was clear that government bought fake bullet proof and all manner of nonsense that have been meted out on them. These guys are still on the job. It is not easy. It's not easy for anyone in this country and the least we would expect from unions is to alleviate or reduce the problem of the common man. My own humble submission is for government to either scrap the Union(ASUU) or they could make it in a manner that joining ASUU should not be mandatory. Rather there should be two or three recognised union where every staff can choose to join any and choose who and when you will pay your dues. The dues should not be automatic deduction from your salary. The Union are thieves and if NANS was still a credible union it should have engaged them seriously.

I expect to be insulted for this opinion though

This your Bible reference shows you are an atheist. Ok, Charles Darwin's evolutionary theory and the big bang theory that you believed, how through is that too? If you are very intelligent. Some of thes scientist's theories are not empirical. That's why they used to tackle each other. And besides, where were they when everything was evolving for them to know that was what actually happened? And if you say you dont believed in their theories and shit, i dare you to give us an account of how this world evolved since you are disregarding Biblical account.

I will disregard most of the nonsense you wrote and address the part I deem fit as most of your post is based on false assumptions.

At that bolded part, what theory are we talking about cause there are lots of theories. Gravity that you can feel is also a theory.

Your next question is that I should give you an account of how the world began since I'm disregarding biblical account. You put your questions like you understand what evolution is. But the truth is that you don't otherwise there are some questions you ask there that are irrelevant. So I will put the question back to you, What do you know and understand as evolution? It is when you answer it, I will correct your misconceptions.

Point to note: I said I was a teacher, you forgot that part. Just as you can't have a pastor or any cleric that will tell you he doesn't believe in Jesus and the Bible so also there is not supposed to be any scientists that should tell you he does not believe in scientific theories because in the first instance scientific theories are not to be believed but be understood. And if after understanding it you feel there is need for further research, you are free to go ahead and conduct your research and prove the theory wrong. Karl Marx and the others proved Malthusian theory of population was wrong. As a school proprietor, if a science teacher tells me he doesn't believe in a scientific theory, I will consider him incompetent and start looking for a replacement immediately. Most graduates we have now are not qualified to say the least.

Intelligent once rarely ask questions, they would like to ask, but upon realising that they understand it, they refuse.

They only ask you to tie you with your words in arguments.

Please don't confuse people that ask you questions because of argument and those that ask you questions because of knowledge. There is no intelligent person that rarely ask questions. It does not happen and it's not possible. For you to gain knowledge you have to ask questions. It is from the available knowledge that you get wisdom. It is this wisdom people call intelligence. What I presume you meant to say is that intelligent people don't ask questions in classroom. If this is what you meant then I might agree with you. But the fact that the person is not asking questions in class does not mean he/she is not asking questions from somewhere else.

I strongly disagree with this assertion.

If you are a teacher, you'll understand that it's not everybody that asks a lot of questions is intelligent.

Some ask questions, stupid questions in fact just to cause confusion where there is non.

My fiancee who happens to be a teacher told me this.

This your fiancee, how long has she been in the profession? Intelligent people don't get intelligent overnight. It takes years of practice, asking questions and sometimes the questions might appear foolish but the answerer have to understand what the student knows and understand why he/she is asking such questions before concluding it's a foolish question. I'm saying this due to my many years of experience as a teacher.

For example: the Bible says God created the world in six days and on the seventh day God rested.

The students question: Who was there to confirm that God built the world in six days

Teacher: That is a foolish question. You are trying to cause confusion when there is none

Conclusion: Who is foolish among the two? The teacher or the student?

It's looking like some serious scamdemic going on behind the scenes.

I can't even begin to believe the speed that COVID-19 disappeared after global lockdown, despite over 60% of Nigerians not taking the vaccine.

Dafuq!!!

Did you say 60%? It's when you hear the total amount of vaccine that was actually brought to Nigeria and the amount that wasted(expired) because people didn't take it that is when you will know less than 10% actually took the vaccine. Even health practitioners didn't take it. It was a shame and embarrassment actually

The line that was sold to Nigerians was that AC i.e Tinubu's gang would bring their administrative expertise and Buhari his security expertise

Well AC and Tinubu were not trusted and were effectively sidelined

Buhari and his CPC travellers proved to be nepotistic , incompetent and even dangerous to the country

Fundamentally Buhari lacks the capacity to supervise key appointees. So he has failed to sack anyone of note even when failing.

I wonder what kind of conversations he has with, the Finance Minister besides borrowing and more borrowing.
Over and above all he is dishonest. Buhari talked about restructuring but on getting there he changed to RUGA

To be frank AC were not sidelined. Look at it, Kemi Adeosun was finance minister, Fashola works, Aregbesola, Lai Mohammed and even Osinbanjo was in charge of the economic team. Yet they failed woefully. The failure of APC is not just on Buhari as a person alone, it is the entire APC as a party that failed. Didn't Fashola say a serious government should be able to solve power issues within a year or so? Has he not been there for years? APC failed squarely

It is the same constitution that disregarded the secular way of dressing to an organisation and state that people should wear hijab. BluntTheApostle:

First of all, a Muslim-Muslim ticket is just a strategy. It has nothing to do with faith or religion or the incompetence of Christian Northern politicians.

The cold truth is that the APC can only win this election with a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

With Shettima, APC will have a close fight with PDP in North East, and with the Buhari factor and the absence of Kwankwaso in PDP, clinch the heavily populated Kano state, and the Buhari factor alone will do well for APC in Katsina.

It is a winning strategy.

The first thing is to win the election. When it comes to competence or organizing a competent team, you can't deny that Tinubu is very good at that.

Your Tinubu is a comedian and his strategy is that of a deluded mind. How do you strategies on winning Kano and loose Rivers, majority of the South State and the middle belt. You think the north alone can guarantee him the seat. Let's see about that. Even rational thinking Muslims up north will not even vote for him as they will see this as a form of injustice. So the truth is that he is not guaranteed of the entire Muslims vote plus he will loose the entire Christian vote whether in the north or south. How is that a winning strategy? People like Bwala who had defended APC are coming to their senses and those are northerners.

If you call me a fanatic so be it. Your principal that is not a fanatic yet find it difficult to work with people of other faith that are close to him.

At a time when Muslims are entering churches and killing people for no other reason but their faith or Christians being killed for saying something against Mohammed. I would need a strong political figure in government we can run to and rally around in the event that things blow out of proportion.
