dre11: In a startling revelation, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Governor Yemi Cardoso, has disclosed that law enforcement agencies are investigating foreign exchange forwards valued at approximately $2.4 billion. Cardoso noted that these transactions are deemed ineligible for payment.
This disclosure emerged after the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, March 26.
The CBN governor shed light on the meticulous forensic audit conducted on these transactions, uncovering numerous discrepancies and rendering them invalid.
The CBN, upon settling certain tranches of FX backlog, encountered transactions marred by issues concerning their authenticity.
Consequently, Deloitte management consultants were engaged to conduct a comprehensive forensic analysis spanning several months to scrutinize the legitimacy of these forward-contracted transactions.
During the audit process, it was established that several transactions failed to meet the criteria for validation. Instances were found where allocations worth millions of dollars were disbursed without corresponding requests, and some transactions lacked proper documentation or were outright illegal.
According to Cardoso, “In the cause of that forensic audit, we determined that a number of these transactions did not qualify. In some cases, you had some requests, which well you actually had some allocations that were made in millions of dollars, which were never requested for.
seborrhic: Must you quote the whole damned long post to write this reply! Gosh, this is annoying!!
You have absolutely NO right to state here that I quoted the OP's post. You should also be annoyed with the OP for writing a long post (which IMHO is a highly informative real estate post).
I've been using the Internet since 1995 and there is NO rule OR online etiquette which states that you cannot quote anything online. Even NL has no such rules.
Second, some NL users deactivate their accounts and quoting them helps you to EASILY find their past posts using the NL search function.
Reading long informative posts can be very priceless because there are hidden GEMS in reading books and even reading long posts like the one here that you detest.
lawyer: Demolition season in Lagos is in full swing and owners of Multi-million Naira Mansions in Lekki/Ajah Environs are living in constant fear not knowing whether their house will be the next one to crumble under the bulldozer because the house they bought either has no valid government title, has questionable Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) or Governor’s Consents, absence of building plans, is built close to the canal or government easements or has a court case hanging on it.
Many of these owners of houses in Lekki Estates were swayed by polished Instagram Videos of persuasive Agents marketing these properties without paying attention to due diligence. Many of them bought these houses due to the pressure of the Agent telling them to buy them quickly because other people were on the property ( Real or Imaginary). Many of them were swayed by the marketing gimmick, lies and bullshit of the Developer or Agent to buy these houses and many were extremely ignorant about how to buy a house in Lekki and just had Millions to spend without verifying.
A common regret now unites these homeowners is that they all live in fear and wish they did not buy these houses in these areas without verifying them. Below are 10 areas in the Lekki/Ajah axis of Lagos that you must be wary about to investigate every land or house you want to buy unless sorry would be your name and lest you find yourself in a position of regret:
1. Orchid Road Caution: Buyers should be wary of properties on Orchid Road, where many homes lack proper titles and are pending the Governor’s consent. Additionally, many of these properties are without approved building plans, with some constructed on canals & government easements, leading to ongoing demolitions.
2. Ikota Axis Warning: The Ikota area is notorious for estates filled with homes that have incomplete title documents and lack building plan approvals. Properties obstructing canals due to developer sand-filling and lacking the Governor’s consent are common, marking this area as another potential demolition zone.
3. Lekky Palm City Badore Risks: In Lekky Palm City Badore, numerous homes with incomplete documentation are a concern. Properties falsely claimed by owners with counterfeit C of O and dubious Governor’s consents are prevalent, especially those built near canals, hinting at impending demolitions.
4. Monastery Road Red Flags: Prospective buyers should be cautious of Monastery Road, where lands are often sold with questionable title documents, fraudulent gazettes, and governor’s consents. Many of these lands are reportedly owned by the Oba of Lagos, and unauthorized sales by developers could lead to serious legal troubles.
5. Chevron Extension Issues: Chevron Extension is rife with properties featuring fraudulent governor’s consents and incomplete title documents. The area is also affected by cloned Ojomu Deeds of Assignment, indicating widespread property-related problems.
6. Lekky County Extension Disputes: The Lekky County Extension is embroiled in controversies over disputed C of O and ongoing land-related court cases. Buyers often find themselves with unallocated lands & houses with documents that cannot be perfected, leading to excessive complications.
7. Behind LBS Sangotedo Dangers: The area behind Lagos Business School in Sangotedo is fraught with land sales scams, including fake gazettes and lands sold by Omoniles under false pretences as part of government schemes. The extent of documentation fraud in this area is alarming.
8. Okun Mopo and Mopo Ibeju Cautions: Dubious land sales are rampant in Okun Mopo and Mopo Ibeju, with unsuspecting buyers acquiring lands outside approved gazettes or without proper C of O.
9. Ogombo Community Scrutiny: In Ogombo, lands are sold to unsuspecting buyers outside the approved gazettes or without C of O. The community is currently reassessing documents due to the prevalence of houses sold by developers without proper title documents or approved plans.
10. Alpha Beach Road Risks: Alpha Beach Road is notorious for lands sold without title documents. Buyers risk purchasing properties outside the official gazette, which could lead to regrettable outcomes.
I hope this helps you stay safe and avoid scams in Lekki. Before buying any house in these areas, pause and double-check everything before paying for the property to avoid stories that touch the heart. In this hard economy, money is not easy to come by to throw away.

In Nigeria, some people are doing so well, they are successful in their fields. In the abroad, people are doing so well, they don't have time for sorry story. They get up and succeed. Why do you think it is lonely at the top It's because many people give up on their way to the top. That's why it looks like it is difficult to find successful people. They are so busy with maintaining their success, you will have to find them to interview them. The ones that are not successful will be whining about life. Life is what you give to it.
Popular content creator Kuye Adegoke, also known as Egungun of Lagos, leaves the lone street for his buddies to lovingly propose to his lover.
The content creator known for his unique style of reviewing the cost of outfits and properties is set to ring the wedding bell.
In a video circulating on social media, Egungun of Lagos proposed to his fiancée in a romantic setting surrounded by colleagues and friends.
Nervous Egungun dropped down on one knee and forgot to ask, before putting the ring on her finger until a colleague encouraged him.
Netizens have since gushed over the engagement of the content creator while many questioned his choice despite his focus on curvy ladies in his videos.
Islie: Though the friction between landlords and tenants is more pronounced in low-income settlements where most tenants are struggling with meagre income, the middle and high-income areas also have their own version of the friction, usually arising more from default in paying service charge than rent.
Serviced estates have also been hit-hard by rising costs, especially energy, which has seen managers of these estates mark-up power tariff and also reduce hours of power supply down to 12-14 hours.
The price of diesel has jumped to N1,300 per litre due to oil subsidy removal which has affected prices of consumer products coupled with the naira devaluation and the high inflationary trend.
Managers at serviced estates are, expectedly, pushing the increase in the diesel price to the residents who are also battling rising food prices, children’s school fees, increased transport costs and other service charges.
An anonymous estate manager, told the residents that it was getting pretty difficult providing power to the estate because proceeds generated from the purchase of electric token could not cover the cost of their monthly power expenses.
He, therefore, served the residents notice of tariff increase from N195.00/kilowatt to N250.00/kilowatt, citing a market survey showing a few estates that supply 24-hour power where tariff is now N350.00/kilowatt, which is about 79 percent increase from N195.00 per kilowatt.
Group CEO, Global Properties and Facilities International (PFI), MKO Balogun confirmed to LEADERSHIP that , “yes, power cost has gone up as well as other costs, including employees, materials and consumables. All these are impacted by the current inflationary trends as well as changes in the cost of living.”
President, Nigerian Facility Managers Association, Olalekan Akinwunmi also affirmed that the situation was challenging, such that, every fabric of services has really gone up, saying, ‘the diesel cost and general mains supply are not encouraging service apartments and the occupants are not happy with their managers.’
In all these circumstances, mediation and conflict resolution experts advise that landlords and tenants should conduct themselves maturely by not going to court to settle a dispute or disagreement over house rent or poor attitude of one towards the other as has been the case over the years.
They said parties to such disagreement or dispute should settle it within themselves, noting that, some landlords normally take their tenants to court to recover their property and/or outstanding rent while some tenants visit the court to seek protection from unjust treatment from landlords.
“As much as practicable, landlords should not take their tenants to court and vice versa; there are more viable options for settling any dispute or disagreement between these parties. Landlords and tenants should always see their relationship as those of husbands and wives and therefore, should not take one another to court,” a property lawyer, who pleaded anonymity, advised.
Similarly, Chairman, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Nigeria, Gbenga Ismail, said the rent default has been high, noting that; “What we have experienced is restructuring, paying in instalments or monthly. We have also experienced rent reduction from existing levels in both commercial and residential sectors.
“Right now, the landlord can’t even be picky. Priority is to rent out at a lower rent so that quality tenants could be attracted. You will be surprised that those that have the ability to pay are not always those that you may want to rent your properties. But with the economy, one cannot really afford to be over bureaucratic.
The 38-year-old Binance fugitive is probably hiding in the Indian High Commission since he's originally from India (Though he's also a British-Kenyan) ready to be smuggled out through the land borders. That's one strong lead the team of investigators have to look at.
It's obvious though that he has a lot of secrets he's trying to hide and that's why he dubiously escaped from the mosque while under house arrest in a guest house leaving his fellow Binance colleague behind.
Racoon: NUMBER - 8: DC-10 MANUFACTURER: McDonnell Douglas COMMERCIAL SERVICE: 1971-2014 NUMBER BUILT: 386 MAX PASSENGERS: 399
The Nuts and Bolts Life was not always easy for this workhorse of the American skies. Conceived as the successor to the similarly sturdy DC-8 – with which the Missouri-based aviation firm had entered the jetliner race at the end of the 1950s – the DC-10’s first years were blighted by safety issues.
But its reliability improved hugely as the years passed; it was only taken out of passenger service a decade ago. It retains an iconic status in retirement, partly due to the unusual placement of the third of its three engines; not beneath the wings, but above the main fuselage, at the bottom of the tail-fin.
Finest moment: Its recovery from this tragedy. An understandable loss of confidence saw orders for the DC-10 slump in the early 1980s, but after modifications, it became one of America’s most trusted aircraft. It out-lived its parent company (McDonnell Douglas merged with Boeing in 1997), and was still part of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines fleet 10 years ago (its last scheduled passenger flight was on February 20 2014).
When Northwest Airlines put its final DC-10 to bed on January 8 2007, pilot Wade Blaufuss offered a tribute. “The DC-10 is a reliable airplane, fun to fly, roomy and quiet, kind of like flying an old Cadillac Fleetwood,” he explained. “We’re sad to see an old friend go.”
Darkest Hour The loss of American Airlines Flight 191 on May 25 1979, when a DC-10’s left-wing engine detached during take-off from Chicago’s O’Hare International – leading to a crash less than a mile beyond the runway, with a total loss of life (258 passengers and 13 crew, plus two unfortunate bystanders on the ). Photos of the last moments show the stricken plane flying on its side, the pilots struggling for control. Over 40 years later, the 273 fatalities still rank as the worst air disaster on American soil.
Where Can I See One? Next to a Concorde at Manchester Airport’s Runway Visitor Park (see manchesterairport.co.uk). And, brilliantly, reconstituted as the centrepiece of the Gate 88 nightclub – on the Indonesian party island of Bali (instagram.com/gate88langit). .........
An awesome thread... It brings back memories of my flights onboard the DC-10, Fokker-28 Fellowship, Boeing 737, and Airbus A310 planes from the late 1970s to the 1980s and beyond on International flights and within Nigeria. Those were truly iconic planes.
British Caledonian and Pan Am (Pan American World Airways) regularly flew into Nigeria on the Gatwick Airport to Lagos route and Pan Am flew from NY to Lagos back in the early to late 1980s.
The DC-10, Boeing 707, and Boeing 747 planes belonging to British Caledonian flew into Nigeria weekly with Nigerian and foreign nationals flying in regularly for business and holidays to and from London. Life was easy peazy to a great degree.
I wish I could get a chance to fly on a supersonic Concorde plane. That's my only regret... Not flying onboard that plane till the time of the horrendous and fiery Paris aircrash in the early 2000s that led to a grounding of all British and French Concord planes.
BadMaster: Tinubu needs Northern support in order to win re-election. If you're thinking of rigging election in the north, then forget it. Once he loses Northern support, he can't rig in the north. You can only rig or write numbers where you are popular.
El-rufai was one of the fiercest supporters of Tinubu during the electioneering period. But after elections, Tinubu abandoned him. The least he should have been given is a minister.
Before you call me ipob and sorts, go and check my previous posts, before and during the election period.
This 2nd paragraph of your's is incorrect.
Tinubu NEVER abandoned El-Rufai. It was El-Rufai who said he wanted to rest and give others the chance to serve. It was widely reported in the media and the now President Tinubu even appealed to Nasir El-Rufai to serve in his goverment.
NLCreator: Four persons have been confirmed dead following a clash between Hausa and Fulani residents in Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria.
The incident happened on Saturday at Jimjimi, in the Gudu Local Government Area, near Nigeria/Niger Republic border, according to the council chairman, Umma Maikano.
"A few days before the ill-fated day, some members of the Hausa farming community went to the bush but unusually could not see a single Fulani in their settlements. Surprisingly they began to hear gunshots from all angles.
"I won't take sides with either of the warring parties. My duty as political head of the local government area is to protect the lives and property of all. But I'm aware two persons were killed on both sides," Maikano said.
SaharaReporters learnt that the crisis started over a land dispute between Fulani herders and Hausa farmers.
A herder who spoke on condition of anonymity said, "Last Wednesday, Hausa people returned from the bush to find out that two of their brothers were missing. They suspected Fulanis and blamed us for their disappearance.
"Looking at the situation and considering what might follow, our leader instructed us to vacate our settlements. But before we did that, they (Hausa people) stormed our place last night, set fire to our makeshift rooms and killed two of our people.”
“We have since reported the matter to the local government chairman," he added.
SaharaReporters learnt on Monday that negotiation was ongoing to broker peace between the warring communities, according to the council chairman.
When contacted for comments, the spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Rufa'i Ahmad could not confirm the incident.
He told our correspondent on Monday (today): "I'm not in town, give me some time to verify the matter and get back to you."
Freak0: Most seems to be in South West yoruba land. What i also noticed is that South West and Southern Nigeria in general has higher population by far then.
I think northern Nigeria population is inflated because the population decreases as one moves from Atlantic towards desert everywhere in the world
FreeStuffsNG: You are already booking your own trial for cyberbullying crime and criminal defamation. When you are belleful, you will be looking for bekun bekun.
You will be so naive to ever think that after all these multiple identity registrations by government agencies, you can be anonymous to the government and your moniker protects you from the legal liability of your reckless criminal defamation online. It's this your post that will eventually be used against you in court during your criminal prosecution just like the one on trial now while Mr Peter Obi and his children are walking free and enjoying life.
Most of you just don't learn that you can disagree with someone without criminally defaming and cyberbullying the person who holds a different opinion from your own. Smh The Onanuga you called has forewarned you so he is definitely ready for cyberbullies and criminal defamers.
This particular troll, and the criminal defamers and ethnic bigots here don't learn through gentle persuasion. By the time Babatunde Fasola is through with these creeps as a meticulous lawyer that he is, they'll wish they hadn't crossed paths with him.

The U.S. Navy on Saturday identified the Sailor lost overboard from USS Mason (DDG 87) while operating in the Red Sea, March 20.
Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Oriola Michael Aregbesola, assigned to the “Swamp Foxes” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 74, was deployed with a detachment aboard Mason, which has been operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet since November.
Aregbesola, of Florida, joined the Navy in July 2020. He reported to HSM-74 in December 2020.
“Petty Officer Aregbesola fully embodied the selfless character and thoughtful warrior spirit of the United States Navy Sailor,” said Cmdr. Eric Kohut, HSM-74 commanding officer. “His outstanding performance prior to and during deployment went well beyond aircraft maintenance; he truly saw and valued every member of the ship/air team. He will continue on in the heart of every Swamp Fox and our brothers and sisters in the IKE Carrier Strike Group. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
Mason and HSM-74 are part of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group and currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
In an October 2020 post on social media, Aregbesola wrote:
Oh my... Gosh.
Oriola Aregbesola of the U.S. Navy has passed on... lost overboard on USS Mason. Were there not enough safety measures in place or was he pushed overboard? I first saw his post online in 2020. My condolences go to the young Nigerian-American's family.
That's one Diasporan Naija soldier down. The rest remain unbowed like the rock of Gibraltar.
All those "I am Yoruba but..." should be proud of themselves right now.
Asue Ighodalo too has a Yoruba name (just like his younger brother Pastor Ituah Olajide Ighodalo). Both of their late parents were Esan on the paternal side and Yoruba on the maternal side.
The uninformed idiot in the screenshot you attached, who posted that trash on the X social media platform about Olumide Akpata having a Yoruba name certainly didn't know what he was saying online.
Coincidentally, in 1979, the hugely popular Professor Ambrose Folorunso Alli whose father was Esan from Ekpoma and his mother was from Idoani in Ondo State became the Governor of Bendel State (now Edo and Delta States) on the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN.
This is quite an abnormal thing for him to do being a Muslim during the Ramadan period. He went to the mosque and BOOM... He escaped from house arrest with his alleged Kenyan passport instead of being bold to take on the issues head-on like a REAL man.
Well, Carlos Ghosn, the Brazilian-born Lebanese (he's a Brazilian of Lebanese immigrant parentage) former CEO of Nissan also escaped in a box from Japan to Lebanon while under house arrest in 2019. Lessons learned.
Osidazz19: Anyone under house arrest can escape. If you really want to make sure that someone doesn't escape then you have to lock them up. The former head of Nissan Carlos Ghosn, escaped under very similar circumstances and ran to Lebanon, up to today, he's still a free man. Japan is still trying to get him back. This was a case with worldwide implications and he was still able to escape and fly out to Lebanon.
The historical significance of the Plaza Accord and how it shaped the Japanese economy for years to come. The impact of this landmark agreement on exchange rates, trade balances, and economic growth in Japan and how it led to the period known as the lost decade in Japan.
sukkot: very well said brother and yes I have been to Amsterdam in the past. Very well stated about the Dutch agro tech enterprises however I have to say the most successful country in the world is the most tribal. That’s America. They have the white tribe, African American, Hispanic and a million more coexisting in uniformity of goals . I don’t think it’s an issue of tribalism as much as it’s an issue of very weak institutions.
Strong institutions like they have in America do not respect tribes. If you fail to pay your taxes regardless of status or tribe you are going to jail. That’s what strong institutions look like. Splintering up a country into tribal units can never work and will create many poor small countries. The only reason Nigeria is relevant is because of our numbers, once you remove that all the shine dissipates and places like Ghana will be the new superstars lol. It’s never good practice to cut a big man down into a midget , or in this case, several midgets lol
Indeed Sukkot, STRONG INSTITUTIONS. Ideally yes the U.S. has strong institutions but racial or ethnic fractures still exist in the U.S. that have worsened full integration. There's also still continued White poverty among the folks in the Appalachian mountains region of the United States with the polls showing that President Biden is trailing Trump based on several variables.
Just to be clearer... If Yorubaland as a case study (excluding Yorubaland in Benin Republic and Republic of Togo) becomes an independent country with a population of over 50 million as of today, it would have a landmass that's slightly bigger than Sierra Leone in West Africa, but it would be VERY efficiently run with a huge Diaspora population living in West Africa, United Kingdom, the U.S., Canada, Germany, South Africa, etc, precious minerals such as gold, crude oil and gas, the second largest bitumen reserve on earth (after that of Canada) which is far more than the entire crude oil reserves of Nigeria, a pool of tech-savvy folks in the field of ICT, robotics, biotechnology, stem cell experts, etc, among the Yorubas, and arable land for high-tech agribusiness. The new countries from the defunct Nigeria can always collaborate in several fields. Ghana would bow down! Lol.
I believe a country doesn't have to be big in landmass or population to be a super power... Switzerland, Singapore, Netherlands, Israel, come to mind. Smaller but powerful countries are very nifty when it comes to removing inefficiencies by taking decisions with their strong institutions.
Aha! Lol. My instincts told me you would have been to the Netherlands too... Not being far from your England base.
Gistmedia10: Tensions flared during a nighttime encounter between Nigerian police officers and a group of Indian men, sparking a heated confrontation as tempers ran high. The incident unfolded during a routine stop-and-search operation, turning a routine procedure into a chaotic scene.
Details are still emerging, but reports indicate that the clash began when police officers stopped the Indian men for a routine check. However, what was expected to be a standard procedure quickly escalated into a confrontation as the men resisted the search.
PDPdestroyer: Because he has a Yoruba name But these same folks termed Yorubas tribalists for rejecting Chinedu
That CANNOT be true.
There are folks who are indigenes of Edo State with Yoruba names. Some may claim not to be Yorubas (especially in the Akoko Edo axis who say they are Igarras with shared ethnic ancestries with Ebiras of Kogi State) but they bear Yoruba names due to cross-cultural interactions over the centuries with Yorubaland.
The hugely popular former Bendel State Governor under the Chief Obafemi Awolowo-led Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) Professor Ambrose Folorunso Alli's father was an Esan from Ekpoma, (now in Edo State) while his mother was from Idoani in Ondo State.
For the Bini-Edo axis, there are families that have roots in Yorubaland as a result of the large trading communities that were set up centuries ago. Same thing too with Bini-Edo trading communities in Yorubaland especially In Akure and other parts of Ondo State such as Igbara Oke.
The name Akpata (which spelling with the letter "K" is derived from the Yoruba spelling Apata) suggests an Edo link with the Akure area who then moved back to Edo where they came from. The quarters of the Ado Akures (Edo Akures) still exists today in Akure and some still maintain contact with their family compounds in Benin. They have become Yorubanized though with mixed Yoruba and Bini-Edo heritages.
Even the internationally recognized Ifa religion and names of "some" of the religious deities in Benin such as Ogun, Osun, etc, have their roots in Yorubaland.
Long and short is that there's NO way Edos would reject an Edo indigene simply because he bears the name Olumide Akpata. Asue Ighodalo too has a Yoruba name (just like his brother Pastor Ituah Olajide Ighodalo) because his distinguished Yoruba mother of Ife origin was the first female permanent secretary in Nigeria, while his father too was an Esan-Edo Prince. The Esans historically migrated from Benin to their current location.
Zeebuy: Tinubu got votes in the north because of shettima. The north has never abandoned their own but they did it for tinubu because they thought he'll soon die. He tricked the north with his actions and forming sick during the elections so they supported him. Did you notice immediately he stole the victory, we no longer hear him babbling or acting very weak? That's why the north has been speaking out against him after the election, they've realized they were tricked. Tinubu is, truly, a great politician but a poor leader
This is preposterous tbh.
Shettima is a Kanuri from Borno State by ethnicity and NOT a North Western Hausa (OR the minority Fulani) by ethnicity.
epainos: Wisdom says: don't involve yourself with Kanu.
I remember how Kanu put in trouble that man who stood by him and stood with all his properties on his behalf. Kanu said the army came to kill him, and he ran away. When someone is on the line for you, he knows the power he is fighting is bigger than him since when he was also captured, instead of Kanu to cool down....he started wearing kingship gowns....his people were bowing for him...he was just doing anyhow. DSS got vital intelligence and moved in, and he used the opportunity to escape. Who should we blame? For running for his life, I won't blame him, but for being stupid and arrogant...I will. And then after escaping, he started his terrorist acts. Calling for people to be murdered. Is that how Nelson Mandela fought for his people?
His family is saying that Ndigbo elders abandoned him...lol. Who wan put his properties again on Kanu cos if you ask the government to release him, you will drop a valuable thing you are going to lose?
See eh! If he dies....life goes on. The only reason Tinubu will release him is for political gain. If Kanu can align with Jagaban, I am sure his freedom will be quick....but that man will never. Kanu should know that no president will release him if not an Igbo president. Even an SS president will think twice, thrice, even one billion times before releasing a stubborn man.
Wisdom is far away from Kanu, and he will NEVER be Mandela. I pray for his freedom, and I hope he will stop inciting violence. Fight for the rights of your people in a non-violent way. The non-violent way may not be fast like you want, but still go through that means.
