Honestly the other day at work, I had a nagging patient and I angrily told her to go home and nag her husband not me! It was my colleague that signalled me to calm down. I would read this book if it would help me to work on my violent anger issues.
@The bolded.

Lol... That cracked me up. It's indeed good to work on one's emotional triggers so as to be in harmony with others and NOT lose one's medical practice license. I used to have some anger issues back in the days as well that were triggered by some subconscious triggers, and got impatient with folks who did not keep to time and more. Time management can also help one to prioritize the daily to-do activities and help to reduce tensions which can trigger anger.

Just to add to my last post, you can also search for Emotional Intelligence presentations on YouTube. Some folks find it easier to assimilate audio visual presentations on DVDs or YouTube.

I know the problem.
All online Naira to USD and USD to Naira APP converter(black market) should be blocked from our airspace.
They are the one doing all manner of havoc to Naira.

I don’t think CBN is aware of this platform.
CBN should convert all inflow to Naira automatically,
And ban all online converters
About 95 percent of all Diasporan hard currencies totalling over 20 billion USD don't get to Nigerian banks directly. The online money exchange apps are being used by Diasporans to convert the USD and Pounds for instance to Naira. The money app owners collect the USD from Diasporans and the Naira equivalent is paid to relatives in Nigeria or Ghana, etc.

The military should grow balls and remove Tinubu
Arrest everyone from buhari till date
Recover our money and use it to build nigeria
That's VERY unwise. The military dictatorships ruined Nigeria and laid the foundations of corruption so that's not an option. I lived through multiple military governments and in terms of freedom, democracy is the best. With the military, there's NO accountability and the freedom you have to post defamatory comments or criticisms on NL or other social media platforms would be curtailed by the military guys through brutal arrests, proscriptions of Websites such as NL, and even outright assassinations of identified critics!

Sani Abacha looted Nigeria by moving huge sums of money directly from the Nigerian Central Bank to those offshore banks in low tax jurisdiction areas and as of today, more of those Abacha stolen funds of over 4 billion USD are still being returned in trickles to Nigeria.

It's better to change a civilian politician at the polls than have the highly indisciplined military dictatorships take over governance. Period.

Honestly, I am really working hard on how to control my anger.
As a medical doc, that should be easy for you because of your exposure to aspects of human psychology.

You can get a good book on Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. That's one of the many books I have in my home library.

Emotional Intelligence would enable a person to emphathize with people, deal with anger situations, and understand why people react in certain ways due to external stimuli or influences. In the meantime, you can check online at PDFDRIVE for a free PDF copy of the book to read on your mobile device before buying the hardcopy version online or from a bookstore. Just type in the book title in the PDFDRIVE Website's search bar.

All the best.

Tell her that if I was the guy I would pour her acid, I nearly poured a girl acid in my lodge then at 500 level for slapping me on the heat of a discussion. I bought the acid a lotnd was ready to pour her that at night but suddenly she came around 4pm or so to apologize to me then for insulting me last few months because I kept malice with her. The apology just weaked me because I took my hard earned money to buy this acid and I wanted to do it in a way that nobody would notice. We medical students are the deadliest if we want to deal with someone, I wanted to earlier give her overdose injections or medicine but since we were keeping malice then it wasn't possible. She apologized that evening. I forgave her and poured the acid away later she started giving me sex on a steady. After my graduation and becoming a medical doctor, she already got married, if not I wanted to marry her. See how I fell in love with her, the person I once hated. People should learn to control their anger.
Acid and anger management. That's deep, really deep.

Anything you do for a woman just don't expect her to reciprocate or be always there for you.
As a boyfriend I bought a car for my then girlfriend who later became my wife with all my savings just for her to be happy and fulfilled, I made sure I filled her tank always without bordering where she drove to.

Years later after getting married to her my economy suffered a downturn while she got promotion in her work place and a big salary package.
She bought a new big car while I am still managing my old car.
Anytime I ask her for keys to her car to go out or go see a potential client whom I needed to display a little affluent packaging because of my line of work, she will remind me how I am a car spoiler, how I plan to use it to go pick up a girlfriend, how her car will be in danger of being snatched, how my eyes is always on her car, how I don't buy fuel for her, how I overspeed, how the last time I drove her car she spent N1m at the autoshop to fix things even though its a lie, how she dreamt where the devil was following me when I was driving her car, hian!🤧🤧
This was someone I spent my last money to buy her first car as a bachelor even when I tried to force her to do my bidding she reported me to relatives.

When I met our relatives virtually every one of them will tell me "abeg leave am na woman, in marriage you have to tolerate, since she doesn't want you to use her car just let her be, na so God take woman"
I realised that as a man you are alone in marriage.

Joking ke?
If many married men tell you what they are silently passing through and the betrayals they have had to endure from their wives at various times you go fear to get married, but in order not to discourage younger people from the marriage institution we just endure and move on which is actually not easy as it takes emotional toll on many men.
Well said.

Indeed, there are strategies that can be used to make a woman literary do almost anything you want based on her own volition. If the romantic attraction, great spontaneous sex and effective communication are good, then she won't even think twice before releasing her car keys to her man or spouse. When a woman holds back from a man, sometimes it's due to not taking charge due to a downturn in personal finances and lack of romantic attraction.

Foolishness

The government should make good policies and leave people carrying out their business in a peaceful manner alone the aboki on the street is not the reason why the naira is changing value every second the policies of this administration is solely responsible.

Ignore IMF go back to pegging system and and stop this craze happening to the naira and the craze of chasing people up and down aboki changers have always been in Nigeria and will always be in Nigeria
The so-called Aboki currency black market speculators have NOT always been in Nigeria like you stated.

It was during the military era especially in the early 1990s that these so-called Aboki currency black markets fully came into existence. The military dictatorships and their cronies propped them up and engaged in round tripping or currency speculations.

It's even annoying that a lot of these illegal black marketers are NOT Nigerians and they have been allowed to engage in economic sabotage through round tripping.

No where in serious developing or developed countries are these kinds of black markets allowed to exist to avoid distortions in the economy.

In a spine-chilling turn of events, the streets of Abuja became a battleground today as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) clashed with Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in a nail-biting confrontation that left bystanders in utter shock.

Eyewitnesses describe the scene as something straight out of an action-packed thriller, as EFCC agents descended upon the BDC operators with an air of intensity rarely witnessed on the streets of the capital. With tensions already running high, the situation quickly escalated into a heart-stopping showdown as both sides refused to back down.

Caught in the midst of this terrifying spectacle, bystanders scrambled for safety as shouts filled the air and the sound of scuffling reverberated through the streets. Mobile phone cameras captured the chaos, with footage showing the intense standoff between the EFCC agents and the defiant BDC operators.

Navalny had been jailed since January 2021, when he returned to Moscow after recuperating in Germany from nerve agent poisoning he blamed on the Kremlin. He has received three prison terms since his arrest, on a number of charges he has rejected as politically motivated.

After the last verdict that handed him a 19-year term, Navalny said he understood he was "serving a life sentence, which is measured by the length of my life or the length of life of this regime".

Hours after Navalny's death was reported, his wife, Yulia Navalnaya, made a dramatic appearance at the Munich Security Conference.

She said she was unsure if she could believe the news from official Russian sources, "but if this is true, I want Putin and everyone around Putin, Putin's friends, his government to know that they will bear responsibility for what they did to our country, to my family and to my husband

Politics › Re: Households Adopt Extreme Coping Measures As Hunger Spreads by Konquest: 6:03pm On Feb 19, 2024
iwaeda:
Several Nigerian households are feeling the brunt of the current economic hardship that has ravaged the country in recent times.

Many of them who spoke to our correspondents said they have devised cost-cutting measures and changed feeding patterns to survive the hardship.

Nigeria’s annual inflation rate climbed further to a near 28-year high of 29.9 per cent in January 2024, up from 28.9 per cent in December and above market forecasts of 29.5 per cent.

Food prices are at an all-time high, with a bag of long-grain rice hitting N77,000.

Protests have also erupted in Kano, Ondo, Niger, and in other parts of the country, and on social media, asking the President, Bola Tinubu, to do something decisive about the situation fast.

Skipping meals

In Nasarawa, some residents who spoke to Sunday PUNCH of Nasarawa State have lamented the increasing prices of food stuffs which had forced them to start skipping meals to survive the economic hardship meted on Nigerians.

A resident of Lafia Local Government Area of the state, Ibrahim Angibi, told our correspondent that the method of skipping meals had to be adopted at his residence because his monthly salary would no longer be enough to cater to his family’s needs.

Angibi, while explaining that the economic crunch had also negatively affected the petty trading of his wife, appealed to the federal and state governments to urgently intervene in the matter by regulating the prices of commodities in markets.

He said, “Salaries have not been increased but the prices of everything in the market keep increasing every day. This kind of situation can make people go into depression because it is unbearable. In my house, we had to start skipping meals to remain alive.”

Another resident of the state, Hannatu Musa, told Sunday PUNCH that patronage for her business had been low in the past weeks because of the dwindling prices of commodities.

“This is the first time in many months that I hardly make good sales after staying in my shop for the entire day. I cannot blame my customers for the low patronage because I also know that there is inflation because of the recent exchange rates palaver.”

Cash transfer

Meanwhile, in a bid to proffer solutions to the yearnings of the people, Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has flagged off the second phase of the Conditional Cash Transfer programme where 6,000 residents would be receiving N7,000 as monthly stipends for the next 24 months.

Sule, while flagging off the exercise tagged, ‘Kudin A A Sule’ in Lafia, said it was to improve the standard of living of the widows, the aged, and the orphans among other less privileged ones in the state.

He explained that his administration decided to increase the money from N5,000 to N7,000 in the second phase of the programme due to the present economic situation and reality in the country.

Hunger strike in Benue

A middle-aged woman, who gave her name only as Tina and claimed to be a Level 14 officer in a federal government parastatal in Makurdi, said she and her two kids can no longer afford to eat more than once in a day.

She said, “I have two kids. One is in secondary school. The other is in primary school. Both of them attend private schools. I struggle to pay their school fees now because the fees have been increased. To feed is even a problem.

“My salary does not have value again. I have abandoned my car and I am planning to leave the two-bedroom apartment I am staying in a one-room self-contained apartment. The government needs to come to our aid.”

One of our correspondents who spoke to other residents in Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State, noted that many families now live from hand to mouth.

For instance, a fashion designer at the Wadata Market, who gave his name only as Daniel Peters, said the present economic reality has taken a toll on his family.

Peters, who has five children, said his family only eats once a day and takes snacks at night or simply drinks water before bed.

“If you take a look at me now, you will think I am sick. I am not. I have not eaten. I intentionally starve myself till 6 pm so I will be able to eat once and for all and take it to bed. The hardship now is something else,” he lamented.

For a 32-year-old motorcyclist, who simply identified himself as Terna Akudi, surviving the hard times now is by the grace of God.

Terna who has two children said that despite the petty trading his wife does, he wakes up every day thinking of how to provide for his family.

“How much do I make from okada business that my family will afford three square meals daily for me, my two kids, and my wife?” he queried.

Bauchi residents lament

Nigerians in Bauchi State are increasingly lamenting how hunger occasioned by the current economic hardship in the country has forced them to change lifestyles.

Speaking to Sunday PUNCH, a young father, Mr Umar Yunusa, said the current economic hardship has affected how he managed his life and family, adding that he only ate once every day.

Another resident, Auwal Gital, on his part, who resides at Isah Yuguda Guest House in Bauchi said to manage his ten dependents, he has to make his soups watery and stop meat intake.

“We only eat once a day now and we don’t eat meat at all. We only eat fish occasionally. Beans and awara are the only proteins affordable to me now,” he said.

Cooking gas abandoned

As the economic hardship continues to bite harder in the country, residents in Jos, Plateau state said they have abandoned cooking gas and have resorted to firewood.

A civil servant, Benita Yakubu, said the rise in the price of cooking gas from N900 to N1300 per kg had made her abandon the product for firewood thereby making life more difficult for her and her family.

She said “We have been complaining of high cost food and other things in the market. Now, even if you struggle and get the food, to cook the food has become another problem because of the price of cooking gas which has gone up so high that we can no longer afford it.”

Another resident, Mrs Agnes Gyang, who lives in the Tudun Wada community in the state said firewood is now a highly prized commodity in the area.

“The way people are scavenging for firewood, you will know that something is wrong. Even as people are walking on the road, some are doing so to see if they could find anything like firewood on their way to enable them to boil even water to make eba to eat their soups,” she said.

No more meat

Following the high cost of food items, many people in Zamfara state cannot afford three square meals per day, while several others have said they no longer include meat or fish in their meals.

A resident of the Samaru area in Gusau town, Mohammed Idris told Sunday PUNCH that he no longer eats meat or fish as a result of their high costs.

He also said that his family now eats only once a day for the past three months.

Survival hard

In Kano, the escalating cost of food items, coupled with the current economic crisis in the country has compelled many residents of the ancient city, especially the less privileged, to stop buying meat and fish for use in their food.

A cross-section of the residents who spoke with Sunday PUNCH said, following the high cost of living, they have stopped being selective as to what to eat but are concerned about what will come their way.

One of the residents who simply gave his name as Auwal said he could not recall when last he ate meat or fish in his meal since after the removal of fuel subsidy by the President, Bola Tinubu.

Kaduna, Rivers, Kwara

In Kaduna, a resident at the NBTE Quarters around Post Office Road, Sabon-Tasha in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state, Kara Bawa, said her family had forgotten when they ate either meat or fish as part of their nutrition.

She said rather they now eat sweet potatoes twice every day because it was cheaper than yam, rice, or beans, whose prices have skyrocketed in recent times.

Some families in Port Harcourt and its environs now resort to buying ponmo (cow skin) instead of meat to survive.

Also, our correspondent learnt that many buy cheaper dried fish, shunning the bigger and more expensive ones.

Also, some buy low-grade rice, filled with stones which take a lot of time to pick because of the cost of high-quality rice which costs around N80,000 in the state.

In Kwara, Sunday PUNCH gathered that residents now feed on yam and cassava peel as well as use soya bean cake (beske) as a protein supplement in their daily meals in Kwara state to beat the high cost of foodstuff.

They also re-grind cassava left-over (koko garri) which was usually fed to domestic goats and sheep.

Nigeria’s local currency is currently exchanging above 2,000 naira against the Great Britain Pound at the parallel market.

A Bureau de Change operator at Wuse Zone 4, Malam Ibrahim, confirmed the rates on Monday.

He said, Yes it is true, we are currently selling above N2,000 for the pounds and it is still about the heavy and consistent demand for these currencies.”

Our correspondent learned that the new rate increased from N1,930 recorded on Saturday and is currently the lowest point in the historical performance of the naira.

Similarly, the naira depreciated against the dollar in the parallel forex market, where forex is unofficially trading at N1,673 from N1,670/$ on Friday.

Igbo men are not weak especially in the context of marriage. We tend to cherish our family and it begins with our wives. A typical Igbo man sees his wife as a trophy and does whatever is within the ambit of his ability to keep that trophy glittering. Of all the tribes in Nigeria, Igbo men by far know how to treat a woman especially when a woman is deserving of the care.
That's interesting (the convo you had with the guy you quoted).

Too much simping is bad though when you put a young lady or woman on a pedestal. Moderation is key in any healthy romantic relationship.

Coincidentally, there's an NL thread that I read a few years back where an Ibo guy whose an NL member also accused Ibo men of being "WEAK" (he said especially men from Anambra) because they place their women on a high ground and this has led young Ibo women to take the men for granted by being too demanding in the relationship. He gave other valid reasons to back up his claims on that thread which gained a lot of comments and ran into many pages. If I can find that NL link, I'll post it here.

Too much stories of woe trailing this apprentice system nowadays.

For a system that made many men, this is not good.

If not because no money to start business generally the best these days would have been to pay to learn the business from the oga for 6months - 1 year and then start your own.

The economy sef is also not smiling on these ogas but on the flip side agreement is agreement, your word should be your bond.
Indeed. The bolded would have been the best.

Eight out of ten people who passed through this system have sufficient reason to hate women. I was telling someone the same thing just a couple of days ago. My senior bro went through the system, had a single boss when they started and everything was smooth. The man was full of praises, then boom! he decided to get involved with that which vexes all men.

Madam came and messed everything up. He told my brother in clear terms that he would go home with nothing, and there was no reason for that. No quarrels, no fights, no nothing. Just out of the abundance of her wickedness.

When they eventually settled with him, I, who was in secondary school at that time, had more savings than what he got. He swore that none of his siblings would go through that again.

My friend from Anambra has a similar story. He was four years into the agreement when his boss married. She made life hellish for him. It was the boss's mother who visited him briefly and then went home and told Anambra's mom to go and take her child before she kills him.

Chino, my man, was going through the same experience, but when it got to a level he couldn't take, he beat the woman, and that was it for him. The madam received a beating, but she was happy that her husband didn't settle Chino.

There is one I know in our line; he is about 15. He told me that his boss's wife only gives him fish heads, chicken legs and heads when they cook. I told his boss, and he told him to ensure he eats to his fill before going home after work.

Igbo men, many of them are very weak. Their women control them.
Interesting takes from real world experiences.

So 7+years ago I made this post seeking advice on a journey I was to embark on.

https://www.nairaland.com/3208530/advice-young-apprentice-a.k.a-boi
First of all pardon my English,
I'm here again to share my experience over the years of my apprenticeship and also the process. I know it's not all part of this country practice this system. It's more prevellent in the east.
For me there has been up and down and mostly down. This is something you can never understand until you personally experience it.. It will reshape your entire life especially your mind whether you like it or not.

I left my village by June to meet my Oga in the city. I spent 6months as testing. Like the first 6months were not counted as part of the agreement. I was even lucky because some spend 1year as testing. So I started in 2017 after agreement. This type of agreement just involve your oga coming to meet your parents with few eyewitnesses.. No lawyer or paper to sign. Just verbal agreement ,No fixed price .. They'll only discuss on how long you will work for him or her( the oga or madam).

When I started my Oga is still single so I was doing most of the works in the house including cooking .. We were living very happy .. I was eating very well .if you look at me then the evidence is there 😀 Sometimes my oga will come back with full fried chicken oh oh.. Only me and him .. Things where just smooth ..
Fast forward to 2019 my oga decided to my settle down.. I think I use like 4years senior my oga wife. At the first few months his wife was very angelic, calm and gentle. She serve us tea every morning..
Omo how she take change I don't know 🙆🏾‍♂️ I no offend anybody .. I'm very calm in nature .. My oga follow change too. Nobody day send me again ..

During 2020 covid 19 my eyes saw my ears .. I know things was hard then but mine was hard pro max. From 2018 I started suffering from chronic tonsillitis. I was taking drugs up and down including self medication .. I started noticing change from the way I speak because I don't know if it's the drug or the sickness that's affecting me .. I had no one to tell. By 2021 I gathered courage and told my oga 😪.. He carry me go meet aboki people make he carry scissors chop the two damaged tonsils in my throat .. Them just day price am 3k 5k I day one side day shed tears 😭 . I called someone and told him about everything. He told my oga to take me to a good hospital. The story long sha but at the end I went under tonsillectomy surgery .. I'm now fine

By 2023 which is supposed to be my last year my oga carry another problem come.. The way he was treating me caused problems between some of his brother and sister including some of his friends because they don't like the way he was treating me. They were all encouraging and giving me advice to persevere because I'm almost through its just a temptation.
I was settled this February with wetin my mouth not fit talk after serving for 7year chai😭 🤦. You can't even rent a shop with here with the amount I received. I haven't talked about buying the goods in this period every price has sky rocketed. I thank my family and friends it's all good.

Life is a journey ..I still have more opportunities ahead of me. I have seen more than 20 other people that have come to serve but didn't finish. Most of them doesn't last for 2years but I persist because I'm determined for success. With this energy nothing can stop me.

Let me tell you some key points in this system.
1. They don't tell you how much you'll receive at the end. Just be ready to take what you see.
2. It will greatly affect your mental health positively or negatively depending on how you are being treated.
3. There will be alot of temptations and peer pressure if you're not careful you'll be dismissed.
4. If at the end your oga decides not to settle you ,that's all for you. He cannot be procecuted by any law since there is no signed agreement.
5. You'll be blamed for some wrong things you didn't do.
6. There are some common thing you won't be allowed to do.. Like voting during election or going to the football field to play with your friends. You can only be at home or shop.
7. For example if you agreed to work for 5years you might see yourself still working for him after 7years with no settlement. I have seen lot of them.

I'm going to be 28 next month. I have seen and experience more, this is all I can say for now. I can't say i am at loss or profit here because I cherish the experience I gained over the year although I didn't get the finance which made to start the journey at the beginning. If I had money I would have just learn the business for less than a year and start my own but such is life. Some of my classmates are doing well while others never see food chop. Some of the females are married with 2 to 3 children. Mine isn't the worst tho. This life no balance.
I just hope this government make things easy for everybody. E come reach my turn to hustle everywhere come red 🔴😂 ..

I thank Se.un for Nairaland o.. Na here I day come read everything including the cruise, bash and banter. SE.UN abeg check if my story na front page material 😁
That's an interesting story.

I have known for years now that this apprenticeship system is filled with a lot of intrigues and it's NOT the 100 percent perfect system some Ibos make it out to be. Some of the so-called masters just like you and others have stated intentionally cheat their boys by NOT paying them at the agreed time when the apprenticeship ends. They do this by framing their boys up for fraud and other false accusations. This is also the reason why some of these apprentices cheat their masters by running their own parallel businesses or manipulate the receipts and record books and set aside money for themselves incase they get kicked out.

Better to learn these skills if you have some money, but if you don't have money, then you can just endure for 7 years of apprenticeship. The street level, real world experience you get can never be replaced.

All the best.

If almost every guy she is attracting smokes, she should check herself
True that.

I don't smoke and most men I know who are associates and acquaintances of mine don't smoke, so, where is she getting her stats from?

True, there are male and female smokers, but if you are clearly intentional about who you hang out with, you'll NEVER find a lot of cigarette smokers around you.

There's something in her character that makes her notice or get attracted to mainly male cigarette smokers...( A tendency for some females to want to fix a bad boy's attitude problems). Period.

The problem with Nigeria is our president, I could remember during the regime of jonathan 1.5 million naira was almost all it takes to clear a 16 ft container, buhari came in and it was increased to 6 million naira, today it will cost you between 17 to 18 million naira to clear same size of container if they don't seize it. Now you know why the prices of imported goods are skyrocketing, tasking an importer a whopping 18 million naira to clear his container is like killing Nigerians because the importer will add it to the price of the goods he imported and at the end the consumers are the one paying the 18 million naira you collected from the importer, it's not just the dollar issue that is skyrocketing the prices of imported goods, it's the president alongside the Nigeria custom service who doesn't care if Nigerians are surviving or dieing, I don't have anything against Tinubu but I think his policies shows he doesn't mean well for Nigerians, first he removed the fuel subsidy which was the only benefit common man like me was getting from the government, secondly he floated the naira which is the reason naira is loosing value every second.

Off-grid power sources are more sustainable for countries like Nigeria with huge gaps in electricity generation, distribution, and consumption.

Endure till when? You shot yourself in the leg from day one. You're so shortsighted. You didn't learn from the way Angola, another oil-rich country removed their subsidy gradually or how Jonathan did his own but people like you didn't allow him to succeed. Karma is so nice. God is so patient. You announced outright removal without a palliative in place, putting the cart before the horse. No sensible family man would organise his home without planning, let alone someone leading over 200m population as officially announced cos Nigeria is well over 250m.

Before Angola announced that partial subsidy removal, they had prepared well beforehand for likely effects. Nobody has heard that Angola has been weeping on the streets in protest over hunger. The next protest will be massive cos I don't see any improvement soon. Today, 1 dollar has hit 1,700. We also hear subsidy payment is back and Nigeria had paid in trillion since you took office...

Your economic team are either half-baked or Inexperienced. The floating of the naira is the worst of all policies ever known. Ordinary Benin cfa has gained so much strength now. That inhuman policy was the beginning of our problem. Go to cotonou today, the cost of a 50kg rice 3 years ago is almost the same today and the difference was caused by the global inflation. Come to nigeria, its over 500% increase for a bag of rice. I have people living in ,calavi so I know.

I lose money daily cos of unstable fx. I leave God, the righteous judge to do the needful over our worked leaders.
Your post is largely valid and the reference to Angola is apt.

However, your reference to Goodluck Jonathan in your post was off the trail. GEJ wanted to remove fuel subsidy and there was NO functional refinery OR single plan for a new refinery in place to cushion the immediate effects of subsidy removal and this is why folks in Nigeria hit the streets in large numbers in some major cities to declare Occupy Nigeria.

Even the greenfield refineries GEJ's goverment eventually promised to construct in the aftermath of Occupy Nigeria protests was NEVER started till he left the Presidency! Even the East-West road could NOT be completed during his tenure because there was no sense of urgency on his part.

Indeed, President Tinubu was right when he said on May 29, 2023 that subsidy was gone (had been removed) because the previous goverment did NOT make provisions for it in the budget. Where I FAULT Tinubu and the state Governors is that within the first 6 months of his Presidency, CNG-kitted delivery trucks, trailers, and mass transit buses with dual fuel capabilities should have been available for the movement of people and cheaper foodstuffs from the farm gates or food-production communities to the major city centers at cheaper costs. CNG costs around N200/kg which is way less than 1kg of LPG for cooking or the per liter cost of PMS and diesel.

The further destruction of the earning power of a lot of folks through the hasty free floating of the local currency and the subsequent devaluations were uncalled for, thereby leading to further hyperinflation and the relentless criminal hoarding and sharp increases in food items by middlemen speculators.

Mr Olusegun, in a post on social media, said Mr Tinubu, who was captured sleeping at the event in Addis Ababa, gave the “most inspiring” speech.

Was Tinubu sleeping, blinking OR did he simply close his eyes for a few seconds for inner concentration? A lot of folks do this, they close their eyes for a few seconds to do some creative thinking.

The PR team of Tinubu has to let him know and be careful NEXT time about these alleged sleeping photographs which can give the impression or perception that he is not an efficient President.

RepoMan007:
a grain reserve actually exists but has been poorly managed.

Most of the food grown in the north use subsidized FG inputs. It would have made sense for FG to buy the harvest around august-october last year and fill the reserves instead of watching stronger currencies around us raid our markets to buy foods the farmers like to claim barely exist. They do that to avoid debt repayment sometime. Now reserves are empty. Instead govt is doing empty media propaganda.
You don't use picture of food to threaten hunger. Hunger is not like that.

Grain reserve is real and Buhari used it during his time. I don't know why our owambe presidio and crew didn't fill it knowing fully well that weaker currency will lead to export. They appear not to know the country they are governing. They just know they can make money from governing it and so employ a reactionary approach to issues that demand foresight and planning. The reserve isn't a myth.
@bolded
Succinctly put.

CNG fueled trucks and big buses should have also been deployed within the first 6 months of the Tinubu Presidency to lower the costs of foodstuffs and human transportation to even below the pre-subsidy removal era, but the FG and state governments all miscalculated by pussyfooting and depending much on Dangote Refinery's emergence. CNG costs N200/kg so, it's way cheaper per kg than even LPG which is used for cooking and PMS.

Second, Illegal checkpoints by uniformed security men and state levy collectors also account for spikes in high transportation costs from the North to South and vice versa. Special whistleblower toll-free numbers in each state would make it easy for truck drivers and truck owners to report these illegal checkpoints and apply the needed punishments for all offenders.

The hues and cries about greedy food speculators and people not being able to afford to buy enough foodstuffs (and even specialized pharmaceutical drugs) because of hyperinflation would have been non-existent as of late 2023 leading right up to 2024.

That's the noble, bigger picture Seyi spoke about here. He indeed largely made valid points.

But there are massive inefficiencies in the Nigerian economic, political, and social systems that can easily be removed by focusing on the low-hanging fruits for the benefit of all. A lot of CNG-kitted delivery trucks (that also use dual fuel) and large commercial buses for instance should have been deployed all over the states in Nigeria within the first 6 months of the Tinubu Presidency in order to lower the transportation costs for people and foodstuffs from the farm gates to the markets in all the cities and towns.

There's a lot more low-hanging fruits that I have posted about on NL threads. This isn't rocket science. Period.
